Hello, girlies! Voici the release schedule for my little summer fic ☀️⛱️ I'm super excited for this one cuz the main character features a South Asian baddie named Naaz.

This fic is quite dear to me because I've never seen fanfic where the main character is of South Asian descent and I wanted to take one for the team and write one

Compared to the other fic, this one is much lighter and has more of a summer vibe and I might finish this before the other one lmao.

Naaz gets a call from back home which dampens her mood. Her parents are beyond furious but she stays firm in her decisions. Enough is enough. She decides the best remedy is crystal clear water and a nice tan, and of course, the annoying brat happens to show up at the same time.   

Kylian goes on social media and is once again faced with an onslaught of critics who can’t seem to stop themselves from portraying him as an overrated evil money-hungry brat. He decides the best remedy is some alone time at the beach when he spots the fiery foreigner who seems to possess the ability to lift his mood without even lifting a finger.

Kylian for his part has never felt this alive since winning against Marseilles in the Vélodrome.

You were sat in you and Kylian’s shared bed, the lamp on your bedside table emitting a warm glow. Kylian was almost asleep, drinking from a glass of water on his nightstand, whilst you were reading from a book. Suddenly, a soft knock came from your door, followed by a small voice

“Maman, papa?” Almost instinctively, Kylian shot up despite being half asleep, before beginning to look around, his face expressing a slight fear.

“ChouChou? Is everything okay?” He said, looking towards the door to see his daughter cowering behind it.

“Oh Noémie, what happened?” You beckoned her towards you, nervous of a danger lurking in the house, scanning your daughter for any possible cuts or bruises. “Did you fall out of your bed, did you see something?” The little girl shook her head aggressively, and looked towards her parents.

“I had a bad dream,” she choked. You and Kylian let out a small sigh of relief, grateful your daughter’s safety wasn’t in jeopardy, despite still feeling disheartened by the fact she had a nightmare. You softly pat the bed and scooted away to make some room for her to sit in between you in Kylian.

“What was the dream about Chou?” Kylian said as he watched her crawl into the space between him and his wife.

“Well, you and maman and me, we were in a cabin on a holiday, and in the basement, there was this scary book.” You cocked your eyebrow in confusion as she explained the dream, and you couldn’t shake the feeling that you had heard this story before. Kylian on the other hand, began to make a face, a nervous simper.

“What else Chou, what happened in the cabin.” Your eyebrows furrowed.

“Well it had weird words, and papa tried to read them, and then, when he did, you got really mad and started hurting him.”

“Oh I did?” You said, your eyebrows furrowed even more, you had connected the dots, this was the plot of Evil Dead, the movie you and Kylian had watched on your first date. You turned to face Kylian, but he was looking away at the ceiling. “…You let her watch Evil Dead?” You softly scolded.

“It was the second one, you know, the less scary one.” He tried to explain.

“What difference does it make? They’re both terrifying! No wonder she’s had a nightmare, you let her watch a horror film!” You had thought this would be common sense. Your daughter looked up at her parents bickering. Trying to avoid a small fight in front of his daughter, Kylian looked down at Noémie and began:

“Noémie, you know the monster in that movie wasn’t real, right?”

“But they looked real, the lady got cut in half and bit the chainsaw hand man.” You slowly looked back up at Kylian, with an expression that said something like: How could you be so stupid?

“Well uh it wasn’t. You know what? How about you just stay in here tonight and you, me, and maman will all go to the zoo tomorrow, with the penguins you like.” He said, in an attempt to bargain with his terrified daughter and pissed wife. The little girl instantly perked up and smiled, looking up to her mother for approval, and only received a simply nod, which was enough for her.

“Thank you maman, thank you papa!” She exclaimed, hugging each of you before plopping down, you still staring daggers at your husband.

“Hey, at least she’ll grow up cultured, you can’t tell me it’s a bad movie.” Kylian tried to calm his wife.

“So is Fight Club, and I haven’t shown her that yet,”

“Well…” Kylian trailed off, your eyebrows lowering and eyes widening. “I’m kidding y/n.” He nervously laughed. “Can you forgive me?” He turned to look at you.

“We’ll see Kylian,” you said, turning over to look into his brown eyes, before turning back to your book with a smirk, hiding a laugh behind your lips.

“I love you y/n, good night.” He kissed your cheek before laying down next to his daughter, grasping her in his strong arms.

“Love you too, even though I’m still mad”

Summary:

Y/N had been dating Kylian for several years now. She was a shy, bubbly girl who loved nothing more than spending time with her boyfriend. Kylian, on the other hand, was a famous football player with a completely different lifestyle. Despite their differences, they had fallen madly in love with each other and had moved in together.

Y/N had always been obsessed with Kylian's appearance, especially his thighs. She loved the way they looked when he played on the field, and she often found herself staring at them. She had a habit of leaving love bites on them, which Kylian found incredibly hot.

One day, Kylian had just come home from a game, and he was exhausted. Y/N was waiting for him in the living room, dressed in one of his PSG jerseys. As soon as he walked in, she jumped up and ran to him, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"How was the game?" she asked, looking up at him with her big, brown eyes.

"It was tough," he replied, his voice tired. "But we won."

Y/N beamed, "That's great! I'm so proud of you."

Kylian smiled down at her, "Thanks, babe. I'm so lucky to have you."

Y/N blushed, feeling her heart race. "I'm the lucky one," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

As they embraced, Y/N's hands found their way to Kylian's thighs. She ran her hands up and down, feeling the muscles under his skin. Kylian let out a groan, his body reacting to her touch.

"You know what I love about you?" she whispered, looking up at him.

"What's that?" he asked, his voice low and husky.

"Your thighs," she replied, leaning in to kiss them.

Kylian let out a laugh, "Oh, really? I had no idea."

Y/N giggled, "Shut up, you know how much I love them."

Kylian leaned down, his lips just inches from hers. "I love it when you leave love bites on them," he whispered, his breath hot against her skin.

Y/N felt her cheeks flush, "You do?"

Kylian nodded, "It turns me on, baby. You have no idea."

Y/N smiled, feeling her heart race. She loved how much he loved her.

Later that week, Kylian had a game, and Y/N went to watch him. She sat in the stands, cheering him on as he played. As the game went on, she found herself growing more and more excited. She loved watching him play, loved the way he moved on the field.

After the game, Y/N waited for Kylian outside the dressing room. When he emerged, she ran up to him, wrapping her arms around his neck. "You were amazing out there!" she exclaimed, feeling her heart race.

Kylian grinned, "Thanks, babe. I couldn't have done it without you."

Y/N giggled, "Stop it, you're making me blush."

As they walked down the hall, Neymar, Kylian's friend and teammate, spotted them. "Hey, lovebirds!" he exclaimed, grinning. "How was the game?"

Kylian laughed, "It was good. Y/N loved it, didn't you?"

Y/N blushed, "Yeah, I did."

Neymar noticed the love bites on Kylian's thighs and burst out laughing. "Dude, what happened to your legs? Did Y/N get a little too excited?"

Kylian rolled his eyes, "Something like that."

Neymar laughed, "Oh man, you're whipped! But hey, I can't blame you. Y/N is pretty hot".

Y/N felt herself blushing even more, feeling a little embarrassed by the attention.

Kylian playfully punched Neymar's arm, "Hey, watch it. She's mine."

Neymar laughed, "Okay, okay, I get it. But seriously, bro, you gotta be careful. You don't want to end up covered in love bites during a game."

Kylian chuckled, "Don't worry, I'll be careful. But I can't help it if Y/N turns me on."

Y/N felt her heart race at his words, feeling a little self-conscious about her obsession with his thighs. But Kylian always made her feel beautiful, and she knew he loved her for who she was.

Hii, I’m sorry for not posting in agesss but I was busy with work after I finished school. But now I am in my favourite city that always inspires me to write so enjoy this mushy piece as I have been feeling very mushy with love recently 😊

"He loves me, he loves me not, he loves me..." Kylian watched as his Rosaline picked the petals off of the sunflower in her hand, one at a time, singing her little chant as she tossed each petal behind her.

The sun was warm that day. The rays of sunshine brightened Rosaline's hair, making her illuminate just as brightly as all the yellow sunflowers that surrounded them in the field. It had been a while since Kylian had taken time out of his day to appreciate the little things, like spending a summer's day in a field of sunflowers with his best friend.

This had always been their spot. Whenever one of them needed time to think, they would come here and lie amongst the sunflowers, lost in nature for a while. And it wouldn't take long for the other to join, not uttering a word as they lay down beside their best friend, offering silent solace with their presence.

"He loves me not." Rosaline threw the final petal behind her before collapsing onto the ground, allowing the other sunflowers to almost blanket over her body.

If Kylian had to capture one moment to keep forever, it would be this. Her in her favourite floral summer dress, it riding up her legs as she just lay there, her body relaxed. Her eyes were closed in a peaceful manner as if she were asleep. The bright sunshine made her olive skin sparkle as her chest slowly rose and feel in a rhythmic fashion. It was almost as if she could feel Kylian's intense stare through her closed eyes as she smiled shyly, before cupping her eyes around her eyes to shield them from the sun. She squinted her eyes at him, her smile still lingering. Kylian focused on her lips, and wondered what they would taste like.

"I needed this." Her soft voice interrupted Kylian's thoughts and he was kind of glad she did. He didn't know how much longer that he could stare at those lips before he actually made the move.

"You didn't need to do that stupid 'he loves me, he loves me not' shit. I could have told you that he quite clearly does not love you." Kylian stated as he leaned down onto his elbow, moving closer to Rosaline. A small, feeble laugh escaped her lips as she rolled her eyes in response.

"You never liked him." she pointed out, amused, as she poked Kylian's cheeks playfully.

"I could see through him right away. You deserve better than him, Rosa." Kylian poked her cheeks in response, causing her to pout. Kylian's heart melted at her expression and the adorableness of it.

"And who is better exactly? You?" Rosaline mirrored Kylian's position, leaning on her elbow, staring directly at him.

The words were on the tip of Kylian's tongue. This was his moment. His moment to finally make a move on the girl he had loved for 5 years. Or was it 6 now? He wasn't sure. But there was that lump in the back of his throat, a hesitation and a shyness lingering in his mind that stopped him from uttering the words that had been swarming around in his head for the past hour with her. Instead, he chickened out and plainly said:

"I don't know."

Kylian couldn't look her in the eye after that. He stood up off the ground, shook the petals off his shorts and top, watching the little specs of yellow flutter to the floor.

"I have to go."

Rosaline hadn't slept that night. She tossed and turned, unable to get that moment out of her head. She thought that maybe Kylian would grasp that opportunity to tell her how he felt about her. It would have been the perfect movie scene. Two childhood friends confessing their love to each other in a field of sunflowers. But that wasn't meant to be from them, apparently.

Kylian's quick disappearance stung Rosaline a little. It felt like a rejection. A rejection that hurt 10x the amount of finding out she was been cheated on by her boyfriend - her ex-boyfriend - a few days before.

Rosaline decided to go for a shower around 5am when she realised that sleep was impossible. She had to move on in life. No matter how many rejections and failed relationships she was part of.

Dressed and ready to refill her cupboards with many comfort foods, Rosaline opened the door to her apartment only to be an inch away from tripping over a bunch of sunflowers held together by a yellow ribbon. Slowly, she leaned down near the floor to pick up the bunch of flowers left on her doorstep. She knew who they were from immediately and her heart began to start thumping in her chest. If she didn't know who they from already, the messy handwriting on the envelope, hidden within the flowers, gave it away.

'To Rosaline'

Rosaline took the envelope addressed to her into her hand and retreated back into her apartment. She got one of her best vases from her cupboard, filled it with water from the kitchen tap and carefully placed the sunflowers into the vase. But the next part was more difficult to her. Her hands shook as she opened the envelope to reveal a small card. It had no writing on it, just a picture of sunflowers. When Rosaline opened the card, she was met with words filling each side of the card in messy handwriting.

'Dear Rosaline, I'm sorry about how I left. I'm an idiot. I have always had a difficulty expressing my emotions in person so I thought it might be better to write them instead. You remind me of sunflowers. Not because we spend the majority of our time sitting in fields with them but because you have this ability to sparkle and brighten under the sun. You looked so beautiful, lying there in your floral dress, glistening in the sunlight. When you asked me that question, I was at lost of words. I had so much I wanted to say but I just couldn't. But I will write them now. You do deserve better. I do not know if I can give you that but I will try. You deserve someone that truly loves you, who appreciates you and who can make you laugh. You deserve everything good in this world and I would do anything to give it to you. I love you. Please forgive me, Kylian.'

Rosaline hugged the card close to her chest when she finished reading those words three times over. After a few moments of thought, she placed the card safely on the kitchen counter. The drawers of her desk were thrown open as she rummaged around for her notepad, eventually finding it. She ripped out a blank page and reached for a pen. Rosaline began to scribble down the words that flowed around in her mind at that moment.

'Dear Kylian, You remind me of sunflowers too. Well, more specifically, your smile. It could brighten anyo person's day. It certainly always brightens mine. Whatever happens to me, in this chaotic life I live, you are always there, with your smile to bring that life back into my life. The truth is: I don't need all that is good in this world, I only need you. Of course I forgive you. I love you, too. Rosaline x.'

Rosaline felt the sunflowers brush softly against her bare legs as she trekked through the field, the piece of paper folded neatly and clutched tightly in her hand. She let out a breath that she was not aware that she was holding as she spotted the familiar boy, laying on his back, eyes closed and breathing steadily. Rosaline stealthily approached the peaceful body before lying onto the grass next to him. Rosaline could tell that he was aware of her presence as she noticed his body twitch and stiffen slightly as she lowered her head onto the floor. However, Kylian's eyes remained shut and his head remained staring at the cloudless blue sky towering over them.

With shaking hands, Rosaline moved her hand with the piece of paper in it steadily closer to the hand Kylian had lying palm up at his side. She gently ran her fingers along his and saw him flinch yet again at her touch.  In one, swift movement, Rosaline slipped his hand into hers and placed the piece of paper into the palm of her hand. With a reassuring squeeze, she retreated her hand again and crossed her arms over her chest, sudden doubt and vulnerability overcame her. She bit her lip nervously and  shut her eyes as she heard the rustling of paper and a sharp intake of breath from beside her.

A few moments passed, where Rosaline could hear nothing but the soft rustling of the sunflowers in the wind and felt nothing but the soft breeze grazing over her skin. However, the breeze was replaced by the feeling of a pair of hands on her thighs. Her eyes fluttered open, her gaze immediately falling onto the intense stare of the deep brown eyes staring intently at her. Kylian was leaning over her body, his face slowly getting closer and closer to hers.

"Rosie..." he muttered, his lips now just centimetres from hers. Rosaline gave a shy smile before leaning her head up slightly to meet her lips with his.

It was a moment she wanted to cherish forever. The moment that she lost herself in the sunflowers with the person she loved.

YEAR OF THE GHOST DOG

[TL;DR version for the New Yorker -- I loved many great short songs and became obsessed with (1) a very old, much longer one (2) and YouTube comments this year.]  [links to previous year’s lists at the bottom]

A while back, I found myself in an extended funk. The reasons are uninteresting and honestly a bit dumb, a mix of everyday bummers and more existential stuff, all of which manifested in a kind of 360º sluggishness. I couldn’t really figure my way out of it but I believed that I would eventually stop feeling this way.

One night, I saw that someone online was selling a copy of the Emulations “These Are the Things,” a magnificent soul ballad 7″ out of Oakland. I wasn’t exactly homesick for the Bay Area, but something about the song’s roots, as well as its overwhelming feeling of optimistic yearning, resonated with (through?) me. There’s a moment when the singer’s falsetto peaks, and the piano starts cascading, and things feel like they’re going to work out after all. The copy for sale wasn’t in great shape, and it cost $100, an extravagant amount of money to spend on a piece of music. But I convinced myself that I’d feel better at some point, weeks, months, or years later, and I’d listen to my Emulations single, and recall that weird summer/fall.

As often happened with independently produced records of the sixties and seventies, “These Are the Things” was pressed on styrene, rather than vinyl. Styrene is a kind of plastic that’s lighter, cheaper and much more fragile than vinyl, and you can tell the difference by a kind of hollow plink when you put it on a turntable. Styrene also means that it has a limited life, and that each time the needle drags across its grooves, the record degrades a little bit. Over time, styrene records that get played a lot no longer sound as crisp or clear (or so it seems). I listened to it once it arrived, feeling a bit of regret at this wild expenditure, but also imagining my future self’s gratitude. I imagined entering into communion with everyone who had played this copy before me. I decided to only listen to the song once a year, if that--after all, each time I listened to the record, the song was changing, slightly.

A few months later, I felt normal (whatever that means) again, and the record became a marker of...I’m not sure what--maybe a kind of blind, stubborn optimism. Someone years later uploaded the song onto YouTube, which means I can listen to it whenever I want. This fall, I was trying and failing to spend less time on the Internet. But I decided that, instead of going on Twitter and Facebook, I would just read comments fans left on YouTube. I became obsessed with reading all the intimate histories people shared with one another--the chance encounters, the teenage dates and breakups, the seventies shop owners who recalled the days when stocking the right hit single could cover an entire month’s rent. I was listening to the Emulations when I noticed this comment, from Deric Jackson, who was apparently one of the group’s members: “I sung this song when I was 19yrs old. It was a pleasure to record and send this messageout into the airways. I have been with the women that God had given me to marry when I was 22yrs old. I did not understand at that time I was singing about my own life and the women who I had not met, but how wonderful it is to be with my wife fo 35yrs and life is still a breath of fresh air and wonderful. I would like to say to all real men love your wife, never worship her only one to worship is God alone.“ I’m pretty agnostic about most things relating to providence. But I felt as though I had been living in these words: “I did not understand at that time...” Jackson’s song was a prophecy, maybe even a conjuring, of his own path, and I wonder what he hears when he listens to it now. Sometimes you don’t know what’s coming next. But there’s always another song, and it doesn’t always sound the same as the last time.

To add a little bit of context to the story, Kylian and you had gotten married less than 72 hours prior in a beautiful ceremony in Paris with all your family and friends. You had been together for two years when you decided to tie the knot and spend the rest of your life together, happy ever after and all that. Looking back, you couldn't believe how a vacation to Paris with the intention of living your hot girl summer dreams turned into you meeting your future husband and a beautiful ring on your finger. 

That’s a story for another time.

Flash forward, the two of you were ready to leave for The Grenadines as Kylian arranged for you guys to fly out immediately after the reception ended.
