Hello, my friends! I hope you had a great week and are ready to have a relaxing weekend with your loved ones.

I am really happy to be sharing another beautiful home by Sweenor Builders, Inc.. You will probably recall seeing their Coastal Shingle Home recently featured on Home Bunch. Today, I will be featuring their latest work with This Old House® and I think you will love knowing every detail!

“Every year, This Old House® collaborates with a team of industry professionals and leading home-improvement brands to build a state-of-the art “Idea House.” Sweenor Builders was honored to be asked to build an Idea House for a second time in partnership with Union Studio Architecture and Community Design. The fourth annual Idea House from the trusted home renovation brand, the 2018 home will be built in the historic seaside village of Narragansett, Rhode Island – recently named one of America’s best beach towns by the Boston Globe. Kristen Martone, Sweenor’s in-house designer and owner of Graceke Design led Interior Design on the project.”

You really don’t need much space to have a well-designed laundry room. This laundry room was tucked into a small corner of the house where stackable washer and dryer, a hanging rod and even an utility sink with Soapstone countertop creates the ideal space to wash clothing.

Mudroom

How fun it is to see a home with color! This mudroom features shiplap, which was installed with a nickel gap. To add some contrast, the builder painted the mudroom cubbies and trim a in a deep green. Paint color is Glidden’s Royal Hunter Green.

Dream Backyard

Outside, you’ll find a soothing soak pool, a sunny patio, and a complete kitchen for dining alfresco.

Accodiring to This Old House, this 7×13-foot pre-cast plunge pool was delivered in one piece, dropped into a 4-foot hole, and then faced with stone veneer and a bluestone ledge.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: New England Home

How wonderful it is to have you here today. Thank you so much for the visit my friends! I am also really grateful for having Ellen Sharpe of @featherglass on our “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” series. Ellen is a wonderful person and she has a home that should not only leave you inspired but also more relaxed… and get ready for this: her kitchen island seats eight! I am in love with her entire kitchen and I am sure you will love it too. Here, the homeowner explains more about her style:

“To say I was thrilled when Luciane asked me to be a part of her “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” series is an understatement! When I had only dreams of doing my renovation and addition, HomeBunch was a major source of ideas and inspiration for me.

I have always had a love of interior design. I would spend hours thumbing through magazines. But now with social media, there is so much design inspiration at your fingertips. During my renovation I started really working on building my instagram account to capture and share my process and ideas. It has been a wonderful experience where I have gotten to meet so many amazing people, including Luciane! I hope my followers are able to get daily bits of inspiration that they can translate into their own homes. I love when people reach out to me for design help and I am even able to offer remote design options.

My husband, my daughter and I (plus 2 adorable West Highland Terriers) live just 10 miles north of Boston Massachusetts in a small New England town. We bought our neglected little bungalow just down the street from where I grew up. Although it was in severe disrepair, the cottage like exterior and the stone chimney in front drew us to it. An initial renovation to make the house livable kept us happy there for years but ultimately we needed more space. We weighed our options and decided a renovation with a 2 story addition to include an open concept living space and master suite was what would work best for our family.

To save money, we upcycle a lot of materials and use repurposed furnishings. My design style tends to be light, clean, classic and comfortable. I love mixing in some French and farmhouse elements as well.”

I come from a large family and we gather here often so for the interior space, we opted for an open concept. That entailed moving a steep center stairway to the second floor off to the back corner of the addition and doing the same floors throughout the entire first floor.

Back View

Previously the back of the house had a pretty treacherous long set of stairs. We decided to break that up with a few steps down to a raised stone patio.

We utilized the help of Orazio Guevara Sr. from JustDrawit https://justdrawit.com/ to draw up our building plans. I knew I wanted to open up the back of the house to the outdoors and to flood the inside with natural light. The windows and doors on the first floor helped us achieve a classic New England look.

I always loved the look of copper gutters but that just wasn’t in our budget so we went with aluminum and chose the bronze color which gave us a similar look.

Carriage House

When we bought the house we were lucky enough to have a bonus detached space that we now refer to as the “carriage house”.

Craftsman Style Bathroom – Warm And Welcoming

The use of natural colors, wood trim and traditional-looking fixtures gives this new bathroom an honest period feel.

Traditional, intimate designs make a Craftsman home appealing and that includes a Craftsman style bathroom. Waukesha WI and the surrounding area is dotted with these rustic styles. And, they are favorite targets for remodeling to bring them back to their period attraction.

A Craftsman home, as the name suggests, is marked by personal touches, natural beauty and simplicity. Rubber bronze – an oil-rubbed surface that is dark, rich and durable. On the high-end of the price scale.

Brass – a truly traditional look that works with a modern sink or period installation. Ideal when there’s a lot of natural elements in the bathroom. Available in polished, brushed or hammered surface treatment.

Oiled bronze – provides a unique, dark and rich appearance. A durable metal it is among the most expensive choices.

Copper – copper fixtures are unique and make a statement. However they require more maintenance than some other choices. Left untouched they will develop a natural green patina as they age – for some an attraction, for others this looks like corrosion.

Custom finishes – there are fixture choices ranging from a matte black finish to pure white. Combination of metal fixtures with colored handles – the old-school farmhouse faucet for example – fit the style nicely.

Previously the back of the house had a pretty treacherous long set of stairs. We decided to break that up with a few steps down to a raised stone patio.

I always loved the look of copper gutters but that just wasn’t in our budget so we went with aluminum and chose the bronze color which gave us a similar look.

When we bought the house we were lucky enough to have a bonus detached space that we now refer to as the “carriage house”.

Rustic Farmhouse Design

Hello, my dear friends. How are you today? I hope you’re feeling well, having a good day and are healthy. That truly is the most important thing we can have in life.

We had a great weekend here. It’s funny because I really can’t believe we’re approaching the end of yet another year. Is time going by too fast just for me or do you feel the same? How do we slow down? Perhaps it’s by doing what we really love more often – and not only what we need to do. For me, seeing inspiring homes with beautiful interiors has always been one of my favorites things to do, and this home, beautifully built by New Old LLC (previously featured here), is a great way to spend my time.

This South Carolina home beautifully combines board and batten siding with brick and stone.

Modern Farmhouse Renovation

This home was a full renovation in a very desirable area of Calgary that offers incredibly large lots and parks all around. The clients had lived in the ‘before’ for some time, so they had a good idea of what they wanted for the final product and it was such a pleasure working with them! The builder, Veranda Estate Homes Inc., took the home down to the studs and incorporated all new electrical, plumbing, and insulation throughout the home. There were also two small additions, one was extending the kitchen by 2’ towards the backyard and the other was building out over the garage to create a larger master suite area and a master bathroom. Take a look at the before images. This, now modern farmhouse, certainly went through a huge transformation!!!

Modern Farmhouse Renovation

The “Before & After” is quite shocking, right? Notice the improved architectural details this home now features.

Black Windows

Pictures were taken before landscaping and furniture went in but this home renovation is so inspiring that I really think you guys won’t mind these “final” details.

Windows: Black aluminum clad windows.

Roof: Dual Black asphalt roof.

Exterior Paint Color

Stucco was match to Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17.

Soffits are Cedar with a clear finish on them. I am loving this look!

Front Door

Front door is custom, stained black on the exterior and lacquered to match the trim on the interior.

Foyer

Featuring glass insets, the front doors bring plenty of natural light to this foyer. Notice the beautiful flooring and that gorgeous pendant light.

Lighting: Visual Comfort in Aged Iron (Size: XL).

Wall Paint Color

Wall walls and ceilings are painted in Benjamin Moore Seapearl OC-19.

Trim & Wainscoting Paint Color

The staircase features Board and Batten Grid wall. All trim, cabinets and doors are Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17.

Before

The house was feeling outdated and that carpet flooring… Oh, wow! That really had to go.

After

Painted brick on fireplace is Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17.

Ceiling Treatment: Smooth flat ceilings throughout the common areas.

Ceiling Height: 8’ main level w/ vault in great room

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood flooring throughout is 4” rustic Hickory with a custom stain finished on site – similar here, here & here.

Dining Room

The living room opens directly to a dining area with custom bar/buffet cabinet.

Countertop

The buffet features a solid Walnut countertop.

What a huge difference! My jaw dropped when I saw this “Before & After” kitchen renovation!

Openness

The kitchen and dining area feels open and connected.

Cabinets are painted in White Dove by Benjamin Moore.

Kitchen lighting is Visual Comfort – Small in Antique Nickel.

Kitchen Island

Kitchen island features Walnut X detailing on both ends. I love this design!

This basement bathroom has plenty of personality. I especially like the shower with built-in bench and the affordable, yet timeless, tile choices. Cabinet is Oak with black stain.

Master Bathroom

After sharing one small bathroom with their three children for a couple of years I think that the clients earned this beautiful master suite!

Shower Tile: 3×6 white flat subway tile for walls and ceiling, Carrara herringbone mosaic for shower base and Carrara slab for bench top.

Towel Ring: Delta.

Vanity Layout

The bathroom features custom a cabinet with his and hers sinks and a make-up vanity. Countertop is Carrara marble.
