Have watched 2 of 3 maze runner movies this weekend due to postings…appalled to learn people think the british twink has more chemistry in this situation than gally…

Okay babe first off I think I owe you some money. For sitting through two thirds of the maze runner franchise. Secondly GOD. what are these other people seeing?? Tomgaly is the only thing happening onscreen. It has a whole arc. It has death and resurrection and redemption. It has '10 things I hate about you' highschool aggraction. Never seen that movie btw. It has crush appeal. It has gally doing the MOST to redeem himself in the third half despite tomas telling him to kick rocks. It has mutual rescue and an epilogue where everyone is living in glamping huts eating fruit on Maui or somewhere. It has a hug thing where gally goes for it & they both try not to look too invested. It has will poultrr.

Tge thing with Shameless (and most brotish shows like that) is that the actors just look like regular average people. It's part of the charm

No because you're so right. Cover early seasons Noel Fisher in as much filth as you want and put characters in distressed clothes if you like, but it's really not hard to look past that and realise that everybody on Shameless US could be a fucking model.

It's in the framing of it all as well imo – and I really hope this isn't too graphic, and it's getting off the point a bit – but think of how Ian's underage sexual stuff is represented. US!Ian works in a strip club in a golden thong. He admits later on that he's starving himself to fit into it, and he's drugged to the gills, but the lighting and the camera work in the club can be so very flattering. UK!Ian is on his knees for grown men on filthy bathroom tiles, and it's disgusting, and it's uncomfortable to look at and unflatteringly shot, because it's awful.

It's the framing of it all – very beautiful, very above it all. The physical beauty and flawlessness of the actors just serves to heighten those choices even more and make the situations seem almost aspirational times, or somehow not as horrific. US!Debbie is dressing like she's older and getting prayed on by guys, and thinking she likes it, then getting older and more beautiful and getting tangled up with all these romances; UK!Debbie is wearing hoop earrings and a chavvy jacket with her hair scraped back, looking fucking miserable and at her wits end at having to play mother to all these fucking adults in her life.
