Evil king: my son, you are slightly less evil than me and your tragic backstory puts you at risk of redemption Me: okay. Evil king: to prove your evilness, go kidnap that beautiful main character. Me: okay... Evil king: and no matter how long your journey is, DO NOT fall in love

I put this one together quickly because....omg this book!!!! Even if you've never followed Brooding YA Hero (and you should remedy that if you don't!), you'll love this. Seriously, if you like ya, you will laugh so hard. I guarantee you have encountered Broodie McHottiepants (in at least half the books you've read, if not more). A must-read. #bookstagram #best #lol #broodingyahero #funny #ireadya #yalit #literati #bibliophile #booklover #booknerd #bookworm #bookreview #amreading #readersofig #booksandjewelry #authorsofinstagram

reblogging this one more time because folks have had some questions! so hopefully if one of these was your questions, you'll see this.
thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has liked this post, reblogged it, commented on it excitedly, like tbh it's a little overwhelming because normally my tumblr is me reblogging a handful of OFMD posts and then fucking off for a few days and coming back to find I have a handful of new followers, all of whom are sure to be pornbots. so this is a lot, but I'm seriously so grateful for everyone's enthusiasm and I can't believe how quickly this blew up, or how much.
okay anyway, answers to questions you may have had about the book/release date/shipping/format/etc.
the release date is April 2023
there will be an e-book version! it's not available for preorder yet, but it is happening
at some point, the book should also go on BookDepository so folks who aren't U.S.-based can get a print copy without paying an arm and a leg for shipping
currently, the book is available for preorder in hardcover or paperback directly through the publisher, Hansen House Books (hardcover here; paperback here)
I am hoping to do signed copies! for the most part, this will probably be in the form of book plates, but I'm hoping to also work with my local indie to do copies that are signed directly. my publisher has started talking preorder campaigns as well, but nothing is set yet
hopefully I'll remember to post updates here, but the most updated links and info will always be available on my linktree, which also has information about other things I've published & will have information about any future things I publish
finally, adding alt text for the above images because it looks like there might not be any? so just in case.
[the first image, from the original post from (at) luv3horse: screenshot of the GoodReads page for The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher by E.M. Anderson, showing 4.79 stars, 24 ratings, and 12 reviews. The cover is red, with a cutout in the shape of a ball of yarn with a knitting needle and sword crossed through it. Through the cutout is a distant cityscape in the sunset. A silhouetted dragon hovers over it. In the foreground, an old woman with a cane and a sword stands silhouetted on a hill. The words "The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher" are in a white, curly font above and below the cutout. At the bottom of the cover, in a white serif font are the words "E.M. Anderson."
The book blurb reads:
In which a geriatric-turned-Chosen-One sets out to take down a sorcerer killing knights like her long-dead son- until abuse in the ranks makes her question who needs saving.
When you’re a geriatric armed with nothing but gumption and knitting needles, stopping a sorcerer from wiping out an entire dragon-fighting organization is a tall order. No one understands why 83-year-old Edna Fisher is the Chosen One, destined to save the Knights from a dragon-riding sorcerer bent on their destruction. After all, Edna has never handled a magical weapon, faced down a dragon, or cast a spell. And everyone knows the Council of Wizards always chooses a teenager—like the vengeful girl ready to snatch Edna’s destiny from under her nose.
Still, Edna leaps at the chance to leave the nursing home. With her son long dead in the Knights’ service, she’s determined to save dragon-fighters like him and to ensure other mothers don’t suffer the same loss she did. But as Edna learns about the abuse in the ranks and the sorcerer’s history as a Knight, she questions if it’s really the sorcerer that needs stopping—or the Knights she’s trying to save.
The next image, from (at) luv3horse's reblog to share the original post that inspired the book, shows a reblog of a post sharing a tweet from (at) BroodingYAHero, reading, "It's amazing how many prophecies involve teens. You'd think they'd pick more emotionally stable people, with more free time. Like grandmas." Tumblr user dinuriel reblogs with the comment, "...I would read the hell out of a series of a chosen eighty-five-year-old woman who goes on epic journeys throughout a dangerous and magical land, armed only with a cane and her stabtastic knitting needles, accompanied by her six cats and a skittish-yet-devoted orderly who makes sure she takes her pills on time."]
Anyone remember a post from Tumblr past, where somebody said something about being tired of having teenage chosen ones and they wish someone would write one that's older? Because my older sister did that and it's getting published in April.

Happy Saturday!!! I’m going to see a coney show tonight and I’m so excited!! Do you know Jim Breuer?? Isn’t he hilarious? 😂😂 . . Although tbh i’m so exhausted. My upstairs neighbors who i have had issues with for about 2 years are finally moving out. But they started hardcore moving furniture at about 7am. Like dragging furniture, dropping things (why? i don’t even know. but it was like bowling balls being dropped every few seconds), stomping... Needless to say, I’m just happy they’re gone. Guess i’ll just chug coffee today. 😩 . . Challenges 🖤♥️ #juneinbooks18 - Foreign Authors You Love - So one of my absolute favorite foreign authors is Thomas Olde Heuvelt. Hex was one of my favorite reads of 2016 and will forever hold a special place in my heart. #aliceinjune - the Mad Hatter: Character You Feel Sorry For - the Witch in Hex. Like... oh my god. I can’t. 😭😭😭 #bookstawarriorsjune18 - #stacksaturday Ombré Stack - Can you guess how many of these are on my tbr?? (And yes. This year my tbr is sorted by color.) #fiercecreaturesinlit - Griffin: Diversity - I read pretty much anything and everything. From characters to authors to stories themselves, my library is pretty diverse. And i love how amazing everything is 💖😍 . . #booklove #booknerd #bookworm #bookstagram #bookcommunity #bibliophile #photochallenge #ireadya #igreads #ombrebooks #hex #slashergirlsandmonsterboys #broodingyahero #warcross

Happy Book Birthday... To ME! (and BroodingYAHero)
Happy Book Birthday… To ME! (and BroodingYAHero)
Well, here it is. The morning of my book birthday, and the day I give BroodingYAhero’s story over to you, the readers. Gif by GifGrrl! I’m so thrilled and truth be told, utterly nervous. Everyone dreams of being an author. I certainly have since I was five. Now that I am SO close to being once (at the time of writing this) I think, it feels different every single day. Some days I catch myself…

How I Met Brooding Young Adult Hero
How I Met Brooding Young Adult Hero
Tumblr media
BroodingYAHero is swoonworthy, simple as that. He’s delicious, his [insert random jewel tone] hues swirl, whirl, and broil with all of those hidden emotions we think exist because of subtext and not actual canon. You might meet him by making accidental eye contact in the cafeteria, or maybe he’ll run into you when you’re late for class and knock the books from your hand. Perhaps he saves your…
