Incomplete, and mostly on the topic of whers themselves (sooner or later I need to get to the heart of thees two’s courtship, I’ve only touched the very beginnings and when they’re well established so far), but still.

Grac was never going to understand why people were always shocked to find a woman bonded to her Deask. Not that she didn’t get where the idea that bronze whers should bond to men came from- bronze dragons tended to prefer men, and bronze anythings were big and muscular and basically the concept of masculinity made flesh- but how did so many people manage to not realize it was complete bullshit? How much of a majority of bronzehandlers had to be women before the idea shriveled up and died? How hard was it to understand that a matriarchal creature was going to listen to a woman more readily than a man?

And male bronzehandlers certainly didn’t do any better than female, most she’d met were among the most scarred up of any wherhandler. It was inevitable really- wher packs only had three ranks, socially, queen, father of the last clutch, and everyone else. Browns and blues generally only caught greens, so there was no real competition between them, but golden queens were mostly chased by bronzes and so the competition there was fierce. The moment a gold started heading into heat any man handling a bronze wher became a rival for her affections, especially if the gold was herself bonded. A woman, on the other hand, easily took over the queen position herself, graciously ‘allowing’ her bronze to chase passing golds.

It did, on the other hand, make it very difficult to get a man, with a giant mass of muscle and teeth vying to keep his position as her right hand.

Which was why the fact she shared Deask’s interest in queens was such an advantage.

She wasn’t sure what was worse, the images Tad was sending her of her dropping fish into Lee’s lap, or the ones Deask was sending of her dropping a grown wherry at the other handlers feet and could her boys not leave her alone for five minutes to pick the poor woman some flowers?!
