It's not like he was living on borrowed time, or anything, and Kerberos was very likely his last chance at ever voyaging into space, or potentially flying at all before his condition began to deteriorate. Adam being the selfish, irrational one? No. That was all Shiro. How dare he want to chase after his dream while his body still allowed it? God forbid he might have actually considered dying out in space preferable to slowly wasting away in front of the man he loved, and inevitably becoming reliant on Adam to bathe him and change out his diapers or bedpans.

Heaven forbid he might have also wanted to spare Keith the horror of watching one more person, one more adult caregiver in his life die, albeit at an agonizingly prolonged pace.
