Reverend Doctor Paul G. Hammond was joyfully received in Heaven by His Lord and Savior on the morning of September 6th, 2023 with his beloved wife by his side in the Upstate Medical University Hospital Neuro ICU. The family thanks the doctors, nurses and staff for their skills in caring for him, and their tender concern for the family.
Paul was born June 13, 1933, in Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Penn Yan, New York and raised in Penn Yan by his parents Ford Cassius Hammond and Evangel Johnson Hammond, daughter of Rev. G. Frank and Lillian Whitney Johnson.
Paul attended Penn Yan Academy and graduated from St. Francis DeSales High School in Geneva, NY in 1952. He played football and lacrosse for Penn Yan and had his nose broken in a box lacrosse game on the Indian Reservation.
He served in the US Army Security Agency during the Korean War and at Fort Bragg, NC. After his meritorious Army service, Paul attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC where he quickly earned a B.A. and a M.A. He was ordained at the Springdale Baptist Church, Taylors SC. He earned a M.S. in Psychology from the State University of NY at Brockport and a Ph.D. in Christian Counseling from the [unaccredited] Christian Bible College in Rocky Mount, NC.
Paul was a humble man who never flaunted his degrees and his knowledge. The Ph.D. was his tribute to his father who ‘only’ had an 8th grade education yet had more practical knowledge and spiritual insight than many.

Creating the Perfect Wedding Bouquet: Tips and Trends for Rochester Brides
Your wedding day is a momentous occasion filled with love, joy, and countless memories in the making. One of the most cherished elements of this special day is your wedding bouquet. At Avon Florists, Bloomfield Florist, and Brighton Florist in Rochester, NY, we understand the significance of this symbolic arrangement. In this guide, we'll explore the latest wedding bouquet trends and provide valuable advice to help Rochester brides create the perfect bouquet for their big day.
Trend #1: Embrace Local Blooms
In an era of sustainability and supporting local businesses, more brides in Rochester are opting for locally sourced blooms. Flowers sourced from nearby flower shops in Brockport, NY, and flower delivery in Bergen County offer the freshest and most vibrant options. By choosing local, you not only reduce the environmental impact but also contribute to the community.
Trend #2: Seasonal Selections
Seasonal flowers are gaining popularity among Rochester brides. Whether it's the delicate peonies of summer or the cozy chrysanthemums of autumn, using flowers that are in season not only ensures the freshest and most beautiful blooms but also connects your bouquet to the time of year you're tying the knot.
Trend #3: Personalization with Meaning
Many brides are choosing to personalize their bouquets with meaningful elements. Adding a sentimental photo, a special charm, or even a piece of jewelry can make your bouquet truly unique and reflective of your love story.
Trend #4: Mix and Match Styles
Traditional round bouquets are giving way to more diverse shapes and arrangements. Brides are experimenting with cascading bouquets, hand-tied bouquets, and even unconventional shapes like crescents or hoops. Don't be afraid to explore different styles and find one that resonates with your personality and wedding theme.
Trend #5: Vibrant Color Palettes
While white and pastels are timeless choices, vibrant and bold color palettes are making a statement. Rich jewel tones and dramatic combinations create a stunning contrast against a white wedding dress, adding a pop of personality and flair to your bouquet.
Trend #6: Textured Arrangements
Texture is key to creating a bouquet that's not only visually appealing but also captivating to touch. Incorporate various flower types, foliage, and even unexpected elements like feathers or berries to create depth and interest in your bouquet.
Advice for Rochester Brides:
Start Early: Begin planning your bouquet well in advance. Consult with your chosen florist and discuss your vision. This will give you time to explore different options and source any special flowers you desire.
Consider Your Wedding Theme: Your bouquet should complement your wedding theme and color palette. Share your theme and colors with your florist, and they can suggest blooms that fit perfectly.
Bouquet Preservation: If you wish to preserve your bouquet as a keepsake, discuss this with your florist. They can guide you on the best methods to ensure your bouquet retains its beauty.
Reliability is Key: When it comes to flower delivery in Rochester, reliability is essential. Opt for trusted florists like Avon Florists, Bloomfield Florist, and Brighton Florist who offer same-day flower delivery in Brighton. This ensures that your bouquet arrives in perfect condition on your wedding day.
Stay True to Your Style: While it's great to stay updated with trends, remember that your bouquet should reflect your unique style and personality. Let your heart guide you, and your bouquet will be a true representation of you.
Your wedding bouquet is a symbol of love, and it should be as unique and beautiful as your love story. With these trends and advice, Rochester brides can confidently create the perfect bouquet that captures the essence of their special day.

Dear Bengals,
Last weekend our region experienced a historic winter event rivaling the Blizzard of ’77. The 2022 blizzard had significant, lasting, and devastating impacts across the entirety of Western New York. Many areas and individuals are still dealing with the aftermath and recovery from this historic storm. Please remember, Bengals, we are strong and resilient! I am proud of our entire community and want to extend my well wishes and thanks to each and every one of you.
Residence Life will continue to have staff on-call and available at the numbers posted in your buildings. Milligan's Food Pantry is committed to supporting the health and well-being of our students. Prepackaged bags are available to residential students in need living on campus this week. Students can place an order online at https://deanofstudents.buffalostate.edu/interested-registering-milligans-services.
Thank you to our entire community for your support and patience during the recovery efforts after the height of the blizzard was over. Our campus saw significant snowfall, drifts, and other impacts – as did our entire region – and our wonderful and amazing crews, along with University Police, are working tirelessly to ensure our campus is safe and accessible to return to normal operations at the beginning of the new year. They are truly the unsung heroes, and I am so appreciative and grateful for their dedication. Please join me in expressing an enormous Bengal thanks to all members of our essential staff for their hard work and commitment to Buffalo State!
Buffalo State has been serving as an operation center for the Emergency Transportation Operations of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) and the National Guard, who are helping with storm cleanup in the City of Buffalo. Additional resources have also been provided by Buffalo State to Erie County and the City of Buffalo during the city’s recovery efforts.
Buffalo State has generously received assistance from SUNY Fredonia, SUNY Brockport, SUNY ESF, NYS DOT Emergency Transportation Operations, Chemung County, American Paving, and the Buffalo Psychiatric Center in our storm recovery on campus. We have also kindly been offered assistance from SUNY Albany, SUNY Oswego, and others. Additionally, SUNY Emergency Management, New York State Emergency Management, and Erie County Emergency Management have also aided our campus this week. On behalf of our entire Buffalo State community, I would like to extend a heartful thank you to all of those listed above, and others we may have missed, for supporting our campus during this time! It is truly a wonderful show of support and community across our entire state.
I would like to remind our community of Western New York 2-1-1 Resources available during the Buffalo Blizzard storm cleanup.

IDA Process
My infographic is going to focus on the mental health crisis that exists among college students and why it needs to be taken as seriously as physical health. More often than not, students do not reach out for help, and it can lead to devastating consequences. The target audience for this infographic is SUNY Brockport students and faculty. This topic is important because many people, not just college students, suffer in silence and oftentimes help comes when it is too late. It also is very important to me as someone who’s struggled with my own mental health throughout my life, and I have been in a position where I didn’t know where to start. In order to illustrate my information clearly, I am going to include statistics on the amount of college students feeling depressed and/or anxious, and how many of those said students do not reach out. I am going to create two pie charts, a bar graph, and two illustrations with these statistics about college students and mental health. I am going to use different shades of blue throughout the graphic for a few reasons: One being that blue is typically associated with sadness or “feeling blue”. And two, because blue can represent tranquility and relaxation. I don’t want the colors to be overwhelming and alarming to people who read this infographic but rather feel a sense of calmness, especially if they read it to find help that they need. I am going to include links to SUNY Brockport’s counseling center, which is in the Hazen Health Center, and the SUNY Resource Finder, which allows people to search for help throughout all NYS counties and SUNY campuses. I will also include phone numbers to the 988 Lifeline and a Crisis text line. I want this infographic to target students that need help but don’t know where to start, to finally take a step in the right direction in making their mental health a priority. I want the typefaces I use to grab someone’s attention without being too loud, therefore the main headers will be in Didot, which I am going to set in a bold style. Sub headers will be in PT Sans Narrow, a clean, simple serif font, and the body text will be Grantha Sangam MN. This infographic needs to be legible but also able to catch someone’s eyes.
Target Audience for Campaign: SUNY Students (average age of ~18-22) and faculty
Statistics
1 in 3 college students experience depression and anxiety
50% of the population will experience a mental health condition during their lifetime
75% of students do not reach out for help
Up to 44% of students reported having symptoms of depression and anxiety
According to the CDC, the percentage of adults with anxiety or a depressive disorder increased from 36.4% to 41.5% between August 2020-February 2021 (biggest increase seen in 18–29-year old’s)
Reasons Students are Struggling
Pressure to be perfect
Hyper Achievement culture in the US ("The American Dream")
Students are sleep deprived
Teaching children to give 100% at all times at everything they do is unrealistic
Resources for SUNY students/faculty
SUNY has announced a $24 million mental health and wellness services expansion as of September 2022
SUNY launched a Mental Health Resource finder for students to access help within SUNY and state-wide (https://www.suny.edu/mental-health/resources/)
Expanding after-hours care, creating more safe spaces on campuses
Providing students with emergency mini-grants to seek help off-campus
Brockport’s counseling center: (585) 395-2414 or appointments can be made through myHazen
Crisis Text Line: GOT5U to 741-741
988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (Replacing the 1-800-273-TALK number)

Harvester Park on the Erie Canal
Harvester Park on the Erie Canal
One of the nice features on the Erie Canal as it passes through Brockport, New York is the lovely Harvester Park welcome station. It is a building for boaters as they stop and pass through the Village of Brockport. It has restrooms, showers, a lounge with internet and places to relax. The grounds are used to have concerts on the canal banks often on weekends in the summer. There are service posts…
