OMNI!
Omni!, based in Georgia, is a group with equally balanced talent, consisting of JoVaughn, J'aime, and Dawvro.
With inspiration from Brockhampton, the group shows that male groups don't have to dedicate themselves to teenage heartthrobs. Their music is upbeat, with intriguing words grabbing your attention within the first five seconds of any song. But just because you hear me say inspiration from Brockhampton doesn’t mean they don’t have their own unique style.
Their first song, "WILLIE," dropped about a year ago with currently 25k youtube views, immediately shows you just how much talent the group holds. Every song they've dropped since has been a hit and I only expect them to continue dropping addictive music.
Each of them have voices that are positively penetrating to your ears, you can hear the emotion behind every word. They are never soft spoken, making it easy to comprehend each verse and not allow their voices to mix too deep with the beat in the back.
Their most popular song to date, titled "NERD," currently has 33k views on youtube, featuring a comedic opening conversation before Dawvro jumps in with such confidence that it convinces you you're capable of anything, followed by JoVaughn coming in with a beat switch up keeping you intrigued before finally J'aime brings in the final blow to your ears with so much emotion it leaves you feeling every word to finish off the song.
I have no doubt in my mind they’ll continue making amazing songs and with each of them having a talent of their own, there will never be a moment of stillness within their careers.
Biggest songs as of now:
NERD - OMNI ! (Official Video)
BLACK MINIVAN - OMNI ! (Official Video)
WILLIE - OMNI ! (Official Video)
Each of these songs I recommend for either a pick me up or to carry on that good mood.

Aaron Frazer Interview: Implicit to Explicit
BY JORDAN MAINZER
"The difference between Carole King and Westside Gunn...is a lot shorter than people realize," Aaron Frazer said to contextualize his second solo album Into The Blue (Dead Oceans). Reading that before I listened to the record for the first time had me primed for the unexpected. And while it's not an album that sounds like A$AP Rocky and Jessica Pratt--let alone a legendary folk singer and raw Griselda crew member--Into The Blue does demonstrate the genre-hopping prowess of a versatile singer-songwriter. Frazer, dealing with a breakup and a cross-country move from New York to Los Angeles, looked to his own record collection for comfort. He also returned to the exploratory mindset of his crate-digging past to make an album that captures heartbreak, transitions, ends, and new beginnings in all of their complexity.
Long before he was known as the falsetto singer and drummer of Durand Jones & The Indications, Frazer was a beatmaker, toying around with FL Studio (fka FruityLoops) as a teenager. He went on to study sound engineering at Indiana University, where The Indications were formed. While his records with The Indications as well as his solo debut Introducing..., the latter produced by Dan Auerbach, are clear contemporary takes on old-school soul, Into The Blue reveals Frazer's love for hip-hop. Co-producer Alex Goose (Freddie Gibbs, Madlib, Brockhampton) helped Frazer incorporate samples, from 60s teen pop music to 90's R&B, into his songs. Best, the samples are purposeful and tasteful. Opening track "Thinking Of You" takes the opening line from The Shades' "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town", "Hey...it's him again...uh-oh!" to reintroduce Frazer and establish the modus operandi of Into The Blue. "Lonely nights like this, I still feel your kiss," Frazer sings over a swelling, lovelorn orchestra. "Fly Away" culls from the Hi-Five song of the same name in a coincidental bit of studio magic, where a song Frazer and Jungle's Lydia Kitto had been working on happened to follow the same chord progression as the 90's R&B classic that Goose had filed away for future sampling use.
Of course, for Frazer, sampling is just a more direct callback to the past than his normal, indirect cherry picking of blue-eyed soul. Into The Blue expands his horizons. The title track juxtaposes strings, breakbeats, and country western guitars. "I Don't Wanna Stay" employs a 5-piece string section to enhance the dramatic, cinematic flair of Frazer's storytelling. "Easy To Love", which does interpolate Kenix's disco classic "There's Never Been (No One Like You)", sports a four-on-the-floor drum beat and keyboard sprinkles for a slice of pure funk. And "Payback" takes a base of Northern soul-esque drum fills and handclaps and smothers them with whispered and lurking-to-shouting backing vocals and Nick Waterhouse's blistering guitar.
A few months ago, I spoke with Frazer over the phone. Calling from his apartment in Los Angeles, he discussed both the sonic inspirations and making of Into The Blue. He was also in the process of figuring out how to play the album live. Frazer had done a release show on June 28th, the day the album was released, something that he hadn't done since he was in college. "I forgot how much work goes into finishing an album rollout," Frazer said, "adding in the last little bits before release while also trying to perform not just passably, but well, for the first time in front of an audience who has only heard the record for a maximum of 18 hours." The answer on his current tour, including a stop Sunday at Thalia Hall? A 7-piece band, including Frazer behind the drum kits for a third of the show, switching places with his drummer/singer. It's still a challenge. "[Into The Blue is] a band album, but it's a production album, as well," Frazer said. "There are elements that need to be shifted in a live context...There are more voices on the record than I'm going to have on stage. I'm not going to have the string section. How are you getting to capture that psychedelic moment and dub basement soul in a live setting?"
Find out the answer on Sunday and read our conversation below, edited for length and clarity.
Since I Left You: On Into The Blue, why did you decide to work with a different set of people than those whom you worked with on your first record?
Aaron Frazer: In some ways, it's a whole new set, but in [other] ways, it's a return to my normal workflow. On the strings and horns, those are all my friends from Brooklyn who I've been working with on the Durand Jones & The Indications records since 2018, with American Love Call. It's less that this was a new thing: When you work with Dan Auerbach, and he's in the producer role, you have access to his collaborators. They're legends who have played on cornerstone records of American music. It's amazing. When I do it myself, I like to work with my friends. This was a mix of my friends from New York and new friends that I had made in Los Angeles, which included Lydia Kitto and Joshua Lloyd from Jungle, [as well as] Nick Waterhouse. Also, because I had the opportunity to do whatever I wanted, I was also able to hit up people I had wanted to work with for a long time, like Cold Diamond & Mink.
SILY: You were dealing with material that was a bit more vulnerable than on past records. Was it a blessing to work with your friends, people you could be vulnerable around?
AF: This record is the sound of me navigating and processing the things happening in my life very much in real-time. Definitely, working with friends allows me a certain level of vulnerability. When I wrote "Into the Blue", the day I showed up for that session, I was honestly too bummed out to write anything. Maybe in another session, that wouldn't be okay, or I'd feel some sort of pressure to power through, but because they were my friends, I voiced that. There was no pressure, and we just listened to some records, and the records we were listening to wound up inspiring the original demo of "Into the Blue". So it's definitely a blessing to work with friends.
SILY: What records were you listening to?
AF: We all geek out over records that feel ghostly, so The Ink Spots, for example. "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" is the classic Ink Spots tune people know. Some of the Charlie Parker with Strings album has this big, classic Disney chorus. I don't mean Frozen, more the old school Disney.
SILY: Fluttery instrumentation.
AF: Some Hawaiian stuff has a lot of ghostly qualities. Eventually, we came to Ennio Morricone's stuff, which is very much in the through-line to Into the Blue and a thread throughout this record.
SILY: I wrote down the word "ghostly" the first time I listened to "I Don't Wanna Stay", with the five-piece string section and the backing vocal harmonies. Combined with the themes of the record in general--a dying or dead relationship--it fits. Was that interplay between theme and instrumentation at top of mind when making the record?
AF: Definitely. It felt like I was navigating a haunted house. It kind of feels like for me, this album is the sound of driving across the country, but having flashbacks to the life that I left.
SILY: I'm definitely intrigued by the use of samples, and I imagine working with Alex Goose spurred that. It doesn't seem like that different of an overall approach from what you were doing previously, the same way you might call back to a classic genre or sound. Sampling is just a little more specific.
AF: I grew up making hip-hop instrumentals. I downloaded a free version of FruityLoops, which is now called FL Studio. It now sounds more professional. The first beat I ever made was a loop of the intro of the song "Lullaby of Birdland", this great piano intro. I made it in Windows Movie Maker, which was on the computer. I've always been drawn to samples. At first, it was jazz samples, then soul samples. I started going to Goodwill in the dollar bin to look for stuff to sample when I was in high school. That's when I started to learn all these other types of music, looking for samples. Hip hop and sampling have been there early on in my musical career. The current approach that people know me for with The Indications and my solo stuff is referential, and I think that referencing is its own form of sampling. You sort of approximate rather than go directly to the source. You put your own spin on it. Working with Goose was really cool because not only do we both share an enthusiasm for eclecticism, but hip hop is a genre that brings disparate elements together. That's always who I have been as a music fan and music writer. Allowing hip hop production to be in the driver's seat allows me to bring that eclecticism back to the forefront, to shift the dial one click towards hip hop being explicit instead of implicit in my writing. I don't think it was a big transition for me. I feel like I've been doing it in one form or another my whole life.
SILY: Certain songs, like "Fly Away", seem to be built around the sample, whereas others are more interpolative, or the sample is just thrown in at the beginning. How did your songwriting process come about? Did you start with the sample, or come up with the song and later think, "I could add something in here."?
AF: The beginning of "Thinking of You", that vocal drop, we were just digging through some stuff, and we thought, "That would be so sick," so we just threw it in at the beginning. We didn't construct the song around it. "Fly Away" is an interesting one, because I have the demo, and it's me and Lydia--I have this piano progression that we played--and we wrote the song to the piano progression. When Lydia and I were at Goose's studio, he was flipping through some loops he had. Sometimes, he'll just chop up songs to file them away for future use. He had this Hi-Five loop, and I realized it was the same general chord movement as the song Lydia and I had put together. As he was playing this loop, I started singing this song down that Goose had never heard before, and Lydia was in on the background vocals with me. It was so funny to see Goose's reaction. His jaw dropped. He was like, "What is happening? How have you already written a song to this?" It was a bit of good luck and coincidence that the chord movements could wrap onto each other. It had already been a 90's R&B vibe, it was just divine timing to hit this 90's R&B loop and bring this implicit influence to an explicit place.
SILY: The first time I listened to it, that's exactly what stood out: the sample, yes, but the song sounds like you could hear it on a 90's R&B radio station.
AF: Mary J. Blige in the 90's made her career by taking soul samples and doing this neo soul approach to 70's soul samples. I feel like I inverted the ratio. I'm more inspired by 70's soul, but I applied it to 90's sampling.
SILY: What was your approach to sequencing the record?
AF: Sequencing is so important on a record like this. This is such an eclectic, sprawling record. I'm not doing death metal, or anything--it's all in its zone--but this album is the sound of my record collection. When it comes to food, sometimes the flavors that would work together, if eaten in the wrong order, don't taste good. Music is very much like that. You are a DJ. Two songs that are sick won't connect with people if you don't sequence it correctly. We tinkered around a lot with the--I almost said setlist, but that's kind of how it feels. We're DJs and trying to get that set together to feel good and not give you whiplash stylistically and show the authentic emotional journey I went on from New York to LA, from in a relationship to out of a relationship, from touring like crazy with a band to all of a sudden having a year off.
SILY: I noticed a lot of contrast in texture from one song to another, which is key in both albums and food! That ghostly quality is there throughout Into The Blue, but on a song like "Payback", Nick Waterhouse's guitars are so fuzzy and sharp.
AF: It's brash and bombastic. And then "Perfect Strangers" is the salmon sashimi of the record. It's subtle.
SILY: That one's just you on your guitar with background singers?
AF: There's a little bit of bass, but it's very minimal.
SILY: Are you the type of songwriter who is always writing even when you've just released a new album?
AF: There were maybe two weeks where I was feeling a bit of burnout. came out on June 28th, and on July 2nd, I flew to North Carolina to start working with The Indications on our 4th record, to start recording. That took a lot of caffeine to get me dialed back in. But I'm always hearing sounds where I'm like, "I want to do something like that!" Or little scraps come to me in the shower.
SILY: Are the sounds you're hearing, is that from you actively listening to music?
AF: I love clicking around YouTube until all the sidebar recommendations are 45 labels, and then I'm like, "Now I'm digging in." Instagram is an incredible discovery tool. It's crazy. Spotify's Discover Weekly is really cool. Thankfully, I also have friends who I tell, "Literally send me music any time of day or night." I might not respond if you text me at 2 A.M.--actually, I probably will be still awake--but I love getting recommendations from anywhere and everywhere.
SILY: Some people I talk to, when actively writing music, they really need to shut out all art. It sounds like you're the total opposite. You're a sponge.
AF: Yeah. [Ralph Waldo] Emerson coined "transparent eyeball." You have to see everything and let it pass through you. I will say that while I am a sponge, there's times for soaking in and times for wringing out. There's a bit of a reset period. Before I start wringing out again, I'm definitely in a soaking in period. But with The Indications, I'm having to soak in while finding a corner of my sponge self to wring out.
SILY: You're deft with metaphors! I can tell you're a songwriter.
AF: [laughs]
SILY: Is there anything else about the record I didn't ask about that you want to say?
AF: I feel very proud of the high-brow/low-brow [duality] of this record. "The Fool", the last track of the record, the drums, bass, and guitar are all one iPhone voice memo. It's fun to be at a point in my career where I've done this enough times to be grounded in my compass so I can be like, "Yeah, it's an iPhone voice memo, but it had magic to it, so I used it and tracked on top of it." I hope people listen to the full record. I think it's hard to pick any one song to represent what this album is. I tried to make it a full body of work.
SILY: It's funny that you mention high-brow/low-brow with "The Fool", because you have the low-brow with the iPhone, but in regard to the high-brow, Bryan Ponce's backing vocals remind me of a Greek chorus.
AF: It's exactly supposed to be that!

notes: playing around with sizing hehe-
characters: Barou, Sendou, Chigiri, Bachira, Reo, Oliver, Hiori, Otoya
barou shoei
classical music 100%
Cmon my dude mediates- how obvious does it needa be? I feel like piano would be his favorite but also really likes cello or other deep string instruments. He normally just puts on the default classical music playlists lmao. Though I do think he would like Red hot chilli peppers for some reason. Definitely hard no on metal or anything really with intense drums. He can’t stand the loud aggressive music, he thinks it’s unhinged and frenetic.
sendou shuto
sendou listens to rap cus he thinks it makes him cooler💀 I can see it so clearly omg-
Listens to Eminem obviously, and his favorite song from him is rap god. His hype song is NEW ORLEANS by BROCKHAMPTON. He feels so badass listening to it lmao. Though what he really likes is pop, Brittney spears, Dua lipa, Lady Gaga, etc etc.
chigiri hyoma
Okay I can see Chigiri liking a few types of music for like different moods yk.
I think he’d like XXXTENTACION, he listens to his more ‘intense’ songs when he runs. He likes YuNg BrAtZ, when he wants to listen to depressing music he likes Orlando.
He’d like rock too, The white stripes and Nirvana would be his go toos.
When he’s getting really into his workout he puts on Disturbed and occasionally SlipKnot when he’s tryna push himself.
ALSO I CAN 100% SEEING HIM LISTENING TO SLEEP TOKEN?!? OMG YEAH???
(RIP XXX.)
bachira meguru
Hear me out okay.
Voicaloid.
IK IK- I think Bachira would really like the fast pace and excitement in their songs. He just likes Hyperpop, it’s like an energy boost he don’t need anymore energy
His all time favorites are Rin Rin Signal and Poppippo.
ALSO THE LIVING TOMBSTONE. UGH HE WOULD LIKE THEM RIGHT???? Discord would be on loop 24/7 are u kidding me
mikage reo
I think that since he grew up classy n rich he’d listen to classical music and such. he really likes Violin/Viola. Listening to it brings him great comfort and peace. Reo really likes Jazz too. Obviously Reo explored other types of music to see what else there is .definitely did it as an act of ‘rebellion’ lmao- He isn’t really a fan of metal or rock but likes Alt. I can see him listening to The neighborhood or Radiohead. He also likes Adele.
aiku oliver
likes the more chill stuff, like Noah Kahan or Big thief. He’s a pretty laid back guy and doesn’t feel the need to rage through music lmao- Though I can see him liking Chase Atlantic. And I know for a fact if you put on any cunty music he’d know all of the lyrics to the songs. Ayesha Erotica, Chase Icon, or even porn-ish singerslike cupcakke he’d know the words to em💀
hiori yo
..
death metal.
..
Like we talking cannibal corpse, the fallen prophecies, and on calm days, SlipKnot.
he gotta cope somehow ig😶
Like you could ask him what he’s listening too and expect him to listen to like Drake or sum and he’s like ‘oh I’m listening to Murderous Rampage by Cannibal Corpse’.
.. 😶
Like dawg wut😭
otoya eita
he’d listen to Drake, Lil Uzi Vert and Kanye West without doubt.
Pls he’s the most basic, generic, un-unique ‘frat boy’ ever, of course he’d listen to them. He thinks he all hot stuff jamming out to em, all dripped out in his basic ass fit, and ugly beanie, ew. Ugh I hate this hoe🙄 (jk he’s bbg 🤭) also I’m not hating on any of these artists, I like their music- DONT TAKS NUFFIN PERSONAL PLS

SUMMER !
⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ in the heat of the summer u so different from the rest ...
-
an: happy summer! .. this is again based on the song summer by brockhampton! perhaps i will insert lyrics, perhaps not.. i was tryna do a summer fling ahhh typa thing here so enjoy lol
was it that you changed him, or he changed for you? ⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
themes: lowkey angst, fluff, summer fling, short lived love???,
-
you slid the door separating the kitchen and the living room open, peeking your head to see toji helping you prepare the food for your picnic. "do you need some help? i just got changed.." you walked over and slid your arms around his waist, as he cut the sandwiches into fours.
"mmm... i got it, i ate one or two already though.."
"fatass!" you snaked your head around his arm to give him a silly smile, unsnaking your arms in order to pack the other items.
it was so hot, his traditional home lacking ac, was it worth the scenery when you had to take a cold shower every 30 minutes?!...
your top fluttered slightly as the old fan blew hot air around the house. you prepared the food carefully, placing it into the cute picnic basket you had convinced him to buy for you because it was just too cute.
you both sighed comfortably. "i love it here with you, you know." you softly said, only able to see his quick glance at you as he carefully prepared your things just like you taught him.
"me too .." he drifted off, almost like he was regretting what he had said.
but it made sense he would regret.
because he knew you would have to leave soon.
'in the heat of the summer...'
he helped you lay out the outdoor blanket onto the sand. you were drooling at his outfit, theres no way you were able to pull a man such as him.. but here you are. you drilled the umbrella into the sand, kneeling slightly and pushing the sand against the pole securely.
he sat beside you after placing his and your things, placing his hands on your waist as you finish with the umbrella.
"ah toji! the sunscreen is cold!"
he chuckled, lifting your tankini to rub (your sunscreen you had brought in your luggage, but you weren't getting it back, he liked the scent too much..) over your waist and lower back. you twisted your head to admire him and his glow.
"i need to protect your skin mama... can't have you burning up...love this sunscreen, ‘makes u glow more" he said, reassuring you.
you relaxed in your position, reaching to grab your sunhat. this feeling was intimate in the most loving way, each others company being the biggest thing at that moment. it felt good to be with toji, good when you could domesticate the man that most people fear; his traumas displayed on his back; heart hidden deep within him.
'you know that you should be my boy..'
"ill put some on you too, then we can go feel the water too if you aren't too hungry.." there were soft traces of love in your voice,
yearning.
'in the heat of the summer,'
you held his hand as you ran towards the water, his candid girl. your giggles were intoxicating; the water splashing so satisfyingly as you neared the shore. it was like you temporarily healed him. arms thrown around his neck as you went deeper into the ocean, blabbering to him about how many near-drowning experiences you've had in your life.
'you so different from the rest..'
the way the water glistened onto his abs, the way the sun hit his face..
it made you feel nostalgic.
thats what you thought, as you waved back at him in the midst of the airport crowd.
you two exchanged information-- of course,
but he never heard from you again anyway.
an: this is so unrealistic i let my friend not reply to me for 15 days and i still messaged him like he didn't do that because my life is too boring to be able to ignore someone for over a week so

Mikasa we all know is just a lil emo and her music taste is a slight reflection of that. Indie rock, alternative, folk rock all within her realm.

𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒐 𝑩𝒐𝒅𝒕:

JJK Characters and Songs that fit their Love Lives
Warnings: none, but some lyrics in the songs are a bit suggestive!! Also I’m mostly just an anime watcher so if this info isn’t up to date on what’s going on in the manga I’m sorry!!
Choso: I Wanna Be Yours by the Arctic Monkeys
Choso would do anything for his partner and would also be absolutely obsessed with them!! He would try to prove his worth at every given second and acts of service is for sure his love language. He’ll be anything his partner want him to be, as long as they call him theirs.
Gojo: Boombastic by Shaggy
Y’all already KNOW this is Satoru’s jam!! He’s a chill dude that lives to please his partners, romantically and otherwise. Smooth like silk and can take rejection like a champ (though, let’s be real, who’s rejecting him?), he is Mr. Lover Lover!!
And here’s a more serious one for him because I feel like people sometimes only focus on silly Gojo
Gojo Pt. 2: Hanging By a Moment by Lifehouse
Even though he has a happy go lucky side that usually shows, Satoru is a man that feels and cares so deeply. I feel like this song represents the part of him that’s trying to find himself beyond being a strong jujutsu sorcerer and the right partner could help him through those anxieties. He would want a partner to live in the moment with him and be the missing pieces to each other’s puzzles.
Geto: Roll to Me by Del Amitri
Suguru, though he’s been through a loooot, still has a good heart imo. He would be there wholeheartedly for the person he wants to date. Like in the song, he’d be there day or night to talk or be ready to support the person whenever something goes wrong.
Shoko: My Friends Over You by New Found Glory
I had a younger Shoko in mind when I chose this song but I feel like it still kinda applies to older Shoko as well. If she was seeing someone, it most likely would be low commitment and not that serious. Her friends come first, always. If her partner was dragging her down and boring her, she’d have no problem cutting them off asap!
Nanami: My Heart I Surrender by I Prevail
If there’s one thing I associate with Kento, it’s YEARNING. Yearning for a life he truly wanted, yearning for the safety of the youth. Would it be fair to assume his love life follows that pattern? He wouldn’t know if the person he liked returned his affection but that wouldn’t stop him from giving away his whole heart as he waited for the answer.
Yuji: The Way You Are by Babe Patrol
Yuji is great for this song. He holds strong conviction for doing what’s right and is always supporting those around him. As seen with Yuko, he appreciates people as they are and doesn’t expect them to change or conform to arbitrary standards. He would love his partner for being completely, unabashedly themselves.
Nobara: Wake Me Up Before You Go Go by WHAM!
Nobara is filled with fun energy and loving (in her own way) vibes so using one of the literal meanings from this song, I would think she’d be so down to go dancing with her partner! I could also see her complaining of a fast heart rate around her crush since she’s always hyped up and being around that person certainly wouldn’t help.
Megumi: And I Love Her by Kurt Cobain
Megumi is a straightforward, low key moody, no nonsense man so this song is perfect for him. It doesn’t dance around feelings at all and tells the audience like it is—a love between him and his partner will never die.
Panda: The Power of Love by New Found Glory
Panda has endless amounts of love for his friends and I know he believes in the power of love, 100%. He’s surrounded by it every day—Yaga, his classmates, even his teachers. Panda has a lot of love to give and isn’t afraid to show it!
Maki: SUGAR by Brockhampton
This song has a lot of lyrics that mention not needing anyone help and being able to do things individually and that’s Maki’s core belief. However, there are some mentions of learning to be okay leaning on a partner and I think that’s how she’d be. If she ever opened up to a partner, it would have to be her and them against the world forever.
Toge: Josie by Blink 182
Inumaki would need a partner who was there for him, no matter what. Someone who would laugh at his jokes, because let’s be honest, he’s hilarious, and someone who would bring him food just because they remembered his order. He would also love someone who shares the same crazy sleep schedule he has so if they were up at 3am watching “Vacation,” like mentioned in the song, that would be his dream.
Yuta: All 4 Love by Color Me Badd
This whole song SCREAAAMS YUTA!!! This certified lover boy would do anything for his partner and be their knight in shining (white) armor (jacket). He would never fail to tell his partner how lucky he is to have them and how attractive they are as well!!
Todo: She’s So High by Tal Bachman
I am 1000% convinced Todo would treat his partner like royalty and hold them in the highest regards. His passion for literally everything is unmatched and I absolutely expect to see that in his love life. Like in the song, he would equate his partner to icons like Cleopatra and Aphrodite because he thinks so highly of them.
Mai: I’m Thru With Love by Marilyn Monroe
Mai is definitely through with love. I feel like she’d fall in love once and completely give up the idea of finding someone else if it didn’t work out. She can’t stand being vulnerable and warm to others so this song is high key perfect for her.
Noritoshi: If I Could Ride a Bike by Park Bird/Chevy
Noritoshi deserves better!! There, I said it!! My boy doesn’t get enough love and that’s reflected in this song choice. The pressure to be a perfect member of the Kamo clan is a lot for him and having a partner that fits those same standards to be accepted is impossible so he’s left imagining what it would be like to love and be loved. I think he would want nothing more than to wake up and see his partner’s smiling face looking back at him and be able to go on carefree adventures with them.
Kokichi: Heaven, Iowa by Fall Out Boy
Poor Kokichi :(( I went a bit literal with the relation of the lyrics “scar crossed lovers” since his whole body was littered with messed up skin but I do feel like this song captures his vibe well. I feel like he wouldn’t ask anything of his partner and would just be beyond grateful he finally had someone there for him. He was doomed from birth with his heavenly restriction, thus having a dark outlook on life and further relating to the lyric “kiss my cheek, baby please, would you read my eulogy?” since I think he would like his partner to be there for him even after his death.
Miwa: Everywhere by Michelle Branch
I feel like Miwa is a hopeless romantic so she would relate to this song in that no matter what she does, it relates to her partner. No matter if it’s closing her eyes to sleep or keeping her partner in her thoughts wherever she goes, Miwa has a big heart and just needs to be hugged!
Momo: One Love by It’s Benzzo
I don’t know much about Momo but I know she can’t stand sexism so her partner would have to be open minded and kind, never failing to make her smile. She would just want someone to treat her right!
Yuki: Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer
This is the perfect song for Yuki imo. She seems like a flirtatious girl and would love a partner that went all out in romance for her. I think she’d like to get dressed up and then get swept off her feet every date night. Telling her partner to kiss her under the stars would be a great way for her to end the night!

i'd like to see a crpg with like, 2-3 extremely well-realised companions instead of 8-10. when you're tooling around with Ye Olde Brockhampton it must be a real ballache writer-side trying to accomodate for every possible combination of companions in every encounter and trying to keep it lively and interesting. i've also now played two of these games where the last third revolved almost entirely around doing companion quests, a writing trend that's growing increasingly absurd to me. if you had a much smaller cast you could write the game entirely around how they interact with each other and their own personal tribulations could intersect with the main plot in a way that feels more mechanically satisfying. compare astarion's whole thing with cazador which is certainly well written and thematically interesting but is also a doomsday-level threat in and of itself, relegated to a companion's personal busywork.

First off BROCKHAMPTON was cool and the saturation trilogy was so fun. Anyway guys this song is such a deep and introspective song and outlook on how the group viewed thier lives during and before blowing up. Ameer’s verse about relying heavily on a girl he met and just putting ur all into this girl because hey uuu feel something with this person but uuu then when life gets better uuu kinda jus remember that it’s not healthy to do that and uuu grow. Ashlan spoken word abt a group of ppl who probably wouldn’t meet together if it weren’t to make a group and something bigger than themselves but also making fun of them in the process is so cool because it shows that to the average person ur a bunch of cringey annoying 20 year old but to them thier making something cool. Matt’s verse is so cool man talking abt how drugs were basically the only thing keeping him together but also having ameer by his side to vent but also saying that if he didn’t meet his friends he’d jus off himself because his life would get complacent working a boring job is so sadly relatable uuu wanna be apart of something sometimes and when ur not it sucks but him saying that now he gets payed by his picking up a check is fire. All these verses are relatable but Dom’s verse was very relatable him saying that he hears what he says in his head and worries for himself and the self deprecating lyrics in the song by him earlier in the verse are just man………. . Him talking abt hopefully not still bein cursed by generational curses are just man I get it this song just cuts deep

excerpt from my notes app #053
spotify comment word limit exceeded
hello.
so i've actually drafted something that i will record you before i send the link to your mixtape. i'm actually reading off of it right now. it’s a bit long and sappy so just bear with me.
i guess it was just because i was thinking about how i always loved the good old days when we used to record mixtapes. and i mean literally record mixtapes. people would record themselves speaking between each song with a ‘this is how you make me feel’ or a ‘this song reminds me of this night’ or whatever it is. i've always loved that we used to do that. and i miss that sense of permanence, the tangible object of a thing, whether a CD or a cassette, that contains songs carefully selected that someone compilated just for you. your very own tracklist. just between you and that person. and, of course, the voice recordings to go along with them.
because even though we still have these little voice recordings in our texts… well, when you get a new phone and everything is gone. then again, we can make a whole case about how this is life! and everything changes! and nothing is permanent! i mean, what do people still do with those mixtapes we made back in the day? do they still have them? do they still use them?
i have made many a playlist for many a people. i have also made mixtapes. i downloaded songs from youtube with good old clip converter and then transferred them onto a blank CD disc. a legitimate mixtape. and it’s funny because every single person i made a mixtape for… well, they’re gone from my life.
but, who knows? maybe the songs i gave them stayed with them? maybe. just maybe. who knows. can’t regret these things. though, i must say, i came into a point in my life where i was sick and tired of making mixtapes for people.
no, not even mixtapes. but playlists.
why should i give my songs to people, why should i share these pieces of my soul to people who will inevitably leave? i mean i saw no point.
it was just a interesting time and, i mean, we both said each other that we both ended up in each other's lives in a time when we kinda needed the other. because you came and we connected and, honestly, you remind me what warmth and hope feels like.
i know you're going through a tough time a lot has happened and you burnt out and it may feel like you can barely keep it together… but let this music soothe your soul. i choose a bit of a mellow start for that reason. then we move into some funky tunes and then it mellows out, but to some bedroom tunes. then, of course, it finishes with SWEET. because me drunkenly screaming out the lyrics to that brockhampton song was what started this.
however, if only one of these songs sticks with you… then that's all that matters. of course you may hate all of them. just tell me and i'll be your personal algorithm and give you more of what you like and what didn’t. i won't be offended. i’ve learned to stop taking these playlists too seriously.
because, in the end, people may come and go but music always remains. it’s the same those three or four minutes. those seconds don’t change. we do.
and if i get the chance to share some with you then that's the most important thing.
even if just for now.

Omar Apollo, Kevin Abstract, Ravyn Lenae & Malcolm Todd – Red Rocks Amphitheatre – Morrison, CO – September 26, 2024
The 25th show of the “God Said No” World Tour was nothing short of amazing. Omar Apollo, accompanied by Malcom Todd, Ravyn Lenae, and Kevin Abstract, played the prestigious Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO. Having the opportunity to play on the iconic stage is one thing but to make things even more special, every single row was packed with fans.
Malcolm Todd got the crowd not just warmed up for the exciting night ahead but set them on fire. Fans jumped around and sang to the young opener who played a mix of alternative and indie pop songs for the audience.
Following up was Ravyn Lenae, an R&B singer from Chicago, IL. With a beautiful voice and bright smile, she wooed the audience with her music. Lenae moved around the stage in red light, carrying the momentum started by Todd.
Joining the tour for his very first night, Kevin Abstract gave a passionate and energetic performance. Unlike the previous acts, Abstract started his set on a rock off to the side of the venue. Fans whipped their heads around in excitement as he began to sing. After one song up there, he jumped down off the rock and ran to the stage. He played a mix of his own music and Brockhampton favorites. That being said, his time spent in front of the barricade was short lived as he ran off into the audience. He ran through rows as a spotlight followed him. Eventually, he made his way back to the rock he started on to close out his set.
Fans sporting homemade t-shirts and sunglasses eagerly awaited the main act of the night. As the stage lights dimmed, fog filled the stage. Emerging from the smoke was Apollo, dressed in a large fur coat. As he sang, dancers filed onto the stage beside him. He slid his jacket off and soon broke out into dance. Omar Apollo not only knows how to sing but he can truly perform. His set consisted of wonderfully choreographed routines, epic guitar playing, and heavenly vocals. At one moment in the set, he took the time to denounce anyone who told him he would never make it. The Grammy-nominated artist also expressed his thoughts on how he is proud to be who he is. A queer, Mexican American pop singer who is unapologetically himself. This show was one to remember, for Apollo and fans alike.
The God Said No World Tour continues through mid-October across the United States. I highly recommend stopping by a date near you if you can! Omar Apollo is a true star of our generation, and you do not want to miss him.

.... and you're NOT gonna tell us about the Shadowgast Playlist? Please 🫴, hand it over.
I said in my original post this was my toxic trait... nonetheless I am SO glad someone took the bait 😈
I'm not going to post the link because I value my spotify privacy and also I have an embarrassing username that no one needs to know about. However, since you asked nicely (and let's be honest, I wasn't expecting anyone to care! so thank you!), I will share ✨ my personal top 5 shadowgast songs ✨ with a bit of context for each.
If you're just here to roast my music taste, bear in mind... I said toxic trait. Proceed at your own risk.
1. Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce
"If I could make days last forever / If words could make wishes come true / I'd save every day like a treasure and then / Again, I would spend them with you..."
This one has two meaning imo: first, early-campaign Caleb wishing he could change the past to save his parents' lives; later, Essek wishing he had more time to spend with Caleb. The original version is beautiful, but there is also a cover by Yungblud (yes, it's on the Hobbs & Shaw soundtrack) that's badass but a very different vibe.
2. Lilith by Halsey
"I'm perfection when it comes to first impressions / I romanticize and then I get to stressing / Big brain like I'm teaching at a lesson / Baby, it's a blessing..."
Every time this song comes on I legit yell ESSEK ANTHEM! because it is. This is the Hot Villain theme song. The beat is so sexy. The lyrics are on point ("I am disgusting / I've been corrupted / And by now I don't need not help to be destructive"). The vibes are just immaculate.
3. No Halo by Brockhampton
"Went to church for the hell of it, stumbled in drunk as shit / Been going through it again / Been talking to myself, wondering who I am / Been thinking I am better than Him..."
Look. I could write an entire essay about this one song. Wizard hubris, depression, and the crisis of faith Essek goes through when the Nein find out about his betrayal. Also, for those who theorize Essek is the unwilling chosen of the Luxon - he could, in fact, be "God's special mess".
4. X&Y by Coldplay
"I dive in at the deep end / You become my best friend / I want to love you but I don't know if I can / I know something is broken / And I'm trying to fix it / Trying to repair it / Any way I can..."
Two characters who both think they are terrible people that don't deserve love, trying to be better and trying to better each other? And they fall in love? And they're narrative foils? No one is doing it like them! (Plus the chorus "You and me are drifting into outer space" just screams ~wizards in the star room~.)
5. All The Stars by Kendrick Lamar feat. SZA (album version)
"Tell me what you gon' do to me / Confrontation ain't nothing new to me / You can bring a bullet, bring a sword, bring a morgue / But you can't bring the truth to me..."
I don't know how this song manages to be both broody and uplifting at the same time, but it is and it's perfection. It's the grimness of reality and the hope for the future, the refrain of "All the stars are closer" symbolizing all the possibilities that are now within reach.
And oh boy, I don't have time to write about the whole playlist but if you've made it this far, here are some bonus mini listicles because this is my Roman Empire 😌
Entire playlist of just shadowgast-coded Hozier songs:
Arsonist's Lullabye
In The Woods Somewhere
De Selby (pt. 2)
Someone New
Like Real People Do
Moment's Silence
From Eden
All My Homies Hate Trent Ikithon songs:
Heathens by Twenty One Pilots
Eat Your Young by Hozier
Buzzkill by Mothica
Another Brick In The Wall, pt. II by Pink Floyd
My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark by Fall Out Boy
Other ships? In my shadowgast playlist? It's more likely than you think:
The Cave by Mumford & Sons (widobrave)
Cringe by Matt Maeson (widojest)
Tessellate by alt-J (blumendrei)
EDM wizard songs if you're into that sort of thing (I am):
Time Stops by Virtual Riot
I'd Love To Change The World (Matstubs Remix) by Jetta
I Could Be Anything by the Glitch Mob feat. Elohim
New Eyes by Echos
Keep in mind this is just a handful of songs out of like a hundred, so I welcome you to give me the benefit of the doubt and fill in the rest of the playlist in your mind with whatever makes me seem cool to you.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk, I am sorry it took me four days to write this... 😅
