the reason america so often feels undemocratic is because it was never designed to be any sort of real democracy
#the foundational systems of america are the plantation the prison#the foundational logic of america is capitalist and settler colonialist#america and other 'new world' countries are somewhat unique in this#but its most pronounced in america because of how british imperialism functions vs spanish and french#spanish and french empires want to exploit and assimilate the pre existinf cultures and people (extractively)#british settler colonialism aims for more of a razing and overwriting#man i almost started writing a sociohistorical essay in the tags#also of course patriarchy
