she grew up w/ aeliane. they weren’t very close, but they are the same age, neighbours, + from a close-knit, fairly religious community.

the snippet i wrote about her (the sacrifice of brinelle somer) (based on bdg's "lay all your love on me" vampird cover) takes place when she & aeliane are about 17.

brin was turned by a vampire against her will and is being offered up to zola as a blood sacrifice to purge pestilence (vampirism) from the community. she ends up giving in to killing all of the clergy members present except aeliane's father, who is leading the ceremony, and then running away. she somehow finds herself in aeliane's backyard, and that's all i got so far but im having fun w/ it.

it um. doesn't present the most flattering view of religion? but uh. it still needs polish. it's not indicative of my views of religion or anything. (seriously)

the religious undertone (and then overtone) popped off w/ this one bc "lay all your love on me" really has a hymn vibe + i got strong the-echo-of-choir’s-voices-floating-up-through-cathedral-stain-glass-windows imagery.

brin's like, yet another background character i've decided to thrust into the spotlight? her existence is due to a writing exercise where i wrote snippets based on bdg's abba covers, and her purpose now is to serve as a vessel to explore zolaen religion in noveia. and noveais colour theory!

Brinataur is a herbivore that principally feeds on seaweed and algae, occasionally supplementing the seafood diet with grasses and fruit. It is a competent swimmer but generally keeps to the shores to avoid large ocean-going predators. Juvenile Brinataur are called Brinelings and live in small creches under the watchful eye of an adult. If threatened, Brinataur relies on a defensive style, baiting enemies in with its larger claw then striking back. If necessary, the carapaceon can expel a combustive residue from the huge claw that is then triggered with a snap, creating powerful Blast effects that ravage most other monsters.

Johan August Brinell (10 October 1849 – 17 November 1925)

A Swedish metallurgical engineer, Johan August Brinell is most well known for the hardness testing method that bears his name. He first proposed the test in 1900 and it became the first standardized method for testing materials hardness. Brinell hardness testing uses a round ball with a set load to make indents, with hardness calculated based on the size of the indent made. Given that this method uses are larger ball than many hardness testing methods that follow, it is still used today for macro-scale hardness measurements and for measurements on rougher surfaces.
