Ruben Chen and approval

One aspect that hasn't been that much talked about Rube Chen's character is how he has a great desire to prove to other people that ghosts exist. It seems to be his second obsession after capturing and getting rid of ghosts since he believes they are all evil.

Ollie told Molly (before his change of mind) that one of the reasons he liked her was because she didn't make fun of him and his family for believing in ghosts. Ollie mentioned a few times how the Chen family has been laughed at by other people many times in the past and they are considered weird and a bit crazy for thinking the ghost exists.

The existence of ghosts it is something that is very unknown in the human world, at least when it comes to the people of Brighton. Usually ghosts prefer to stay invisible or hidden away from humans, a few exceptions to the rule are corrupted ghosts like Sonia and Howlin Harriet or the Frightmares. They may let other humans see them if they happen to be friendly with ghosts like it is the case of Geoff letting the Mcgee family see him.

Because of this lack of ¨evidence¨, other people have made fun of the Chen family for believing that ghosts exist. A lot of them thought the frightmares showing up at the Halloween carnival in ¨Frightmare on Main Street¨ were only special effects and that they weren't real ghosts. Near the end of the episode we see a bunch of Brightonians laughing at Ruben when he was trying to say the frightmares were real ghosts. Ruben was seen to be very affected by this mockery, almost it was very personal for him.

From out of the three family members, Ruben is the one that talks the most about proving to others that ghosts exist. We know that he was attacked by a ghost when he was around Ollie's age as it was shown in the simulated flashback video from ¨The Book Marks the Sprite¨ episode and that has been his main motivation to become a ghosthunter.

Based on what has been shown so far, it is very likely that Ruben was bullied and being made fun a lot when he was a kid when he told others that he was attacked by a ghost. It wouldn't be surprising if his parents didn't believe in him he told them about how he was hurt by a ghost in the middle of the night. It must have been pretty bad for him to go through an experience that was rather traumatizing for him (from what has been implied) and having almost everyone telling him that it didn't happen and that he was imagining things.

This stayed with him growing up, always trying to prove to others that what happened to him wasn't fake and it was actually something real that he experienced. It's like he wasn't able to come to terms with that since nobody wanted to hear him.

That's not to say he doesn't care about ¨protecting¨ people from ghosts, he cares a lot and he really wants to believe that he is helping others by getting rid of spectres. We see how near the end of the episode he tells one of the Brightonians who believes him that he and his family are going to protect him.

The issue is Ruben is clearly desperate to make other people believe that ghosts are real and not make fun of him ,and having in mind that he has a ghost canister full of frightmares inside of it, it may lead him to do something dangerous, such as freeing the frightmares in the worst moment possible to prove to others that ghost exist.

Ruben has a lot of potential to become a very dangerous antagonist in future episodes, considering he has ghost canister full of dangerous ghosts in his hands, Brightonians would could be joining him in his cause and we have yet to see how far he is able to go to make other believe him, even if that could include unleashing a horde of frightmares to do so.

yes it's absolutely dreadful but i'm so proud of brighton today there was a counter-protest to the racists. there were like 3 racists and hundreds if not 1000+ brightonians standing against it it was incredible:

What do you think the townspeople think when molly is talking to “herself” lmao. She is very not subtle about it. Even if foms when she was worried about Ollie she’s just openly talking to and leaning on scratch in public

She's a very outgoing and imaginative girl I imagine most Brightonians write it off as her pretending with her imaginary friend? Even with the leaning I've seen people lean on walls pretending to sit in a chair or mime other things, they could just think she's doing that

As for the talking in public it's been addressed multiple times that they think she's weird for it lol like they're a little freaked out by it (not that I blame them, she's usually yelling)

Overall I think most dismiss it as kids being kids but with the growing awareness of ghosts in the town I doubt it'll stay that way for long

I'm salty about The Ghost and Molly McGee's cancellation and how it's another example of networks and studios screwing over a show that didn't earn a profit despite doing next to nothing to help it earn a profit.

You got some fluffy headcanons about the show to help this poor salty soul.

Still mulling things over for post-series headcanons. I do have a few but I wanna wait till I have a good list and some designs before posting. I can give a few tho', 1 per major character.

Sharon worked through her grief of losing Scratch and created a series of wonderful art pieces which both hang in the Town Hall and in a museum in the capital.

Pete eventually manages to get a victory for Brighton over Perfektborg with an excellent redesign of the market district. While Perfektborg would win the next year, Pete was still hailed as a hero by the Brightonians.

Molly became Mayor of Brighton when she got old enough and felt she was ready to run, the previous Mayor Brunson even endorsed her run and she won easily. She has been enhappifying the town even more since for both the living and ghost citizens of Brighton

Daryl went legit...kinda. He still has some shady dealings but the other businesses he has are 100% legit (mostly thanks to Andrea's help and business know-how).

Libby became a popular author after with the encouragement of Molly, she sent in a manuscript and was published at 16. Since then she's been writing a bunch of stories of various genres (even outselling her father which brought her a bit of joy)

Andrea worked with Molly to rework her (Andrea's) life plan and it's been working great for her. The new "honest Andrea" image has been working well for her and has found it liberating not just for herself but against her family who has been trying anything to regain their empire, meanwhile Andrea has been happy separate from them

Ollie is a living therapist to the dead and has been helping ghosts with their unfinished business. While not his main job, it is the one he finds the most satisfying.

June continued her research on ghosts and now that actual ghosts are friends of her and family, she has direct test subjects. Her research was at first laughed at by "ghost experts" but after a few years of her advice was proven to work she got the respect that her parents never got.

Geoff & Jeff visited the McGees more often after Scratch left. While not the best at giving life advice, Geoff still tried to help Molly and co while growing up (Jeff, while supportive of his husband knows that he isn't the best with that stuff and would correct things)

Idk if I'm alone on this, but I really think it's cool how much they've kinda implied that when Moll grows older, she'll play a part in Brighton's political party, and might possibly even be Mayor one day.

Like the McGees already made such a huge on Brighton, and Moll is the one who can't be stopped when putting effort for the better of her forever home.

But upon helping any Brightonian, having a sorta blessing from Brunson as a future mayor, and Pete as well helping with official public events/ business, it feels like she's got it in the bag you know?

The creators have talked about how Molly could get involved in local politics when she grows up since she likes helping with social issues and she is committed to her community. So, yeah, i can totally see her working in some political position when she grows up.

The flag of Litichovice, Czechia was designed by Kryštof Huk. It is the official flag of Litichovice, a Czech municipality, and Kryštof has designed dozens of official flags for Czech communities.

Here is the flag’s symbolism: “The flag is derived from the arms. The three silver streams represent three actual streams defining the municipality's landscape, flowing down into the steep gulley of the Divisov Stream. The colours are derived from the arms of Trebesice (until 1995 Litichovice were a part of Trebesice and shared their history) as well as of the arms of the Veznik noble family, whose history is closely linked with the area. The hill represents the village's location as the "upper part" of Trebesice and the lilly represents the dedication of the village chapel to the Virgin Mary of Lourdes.”

The Brightonian Bend Sinister is a flag created by @loversunitedstates-blog to represent Brighton from Disney's The Ghost and Molly McGee.

Here is its symbolism: “Green white and red are the colors of a turnip (Brighton's main crop) and the B on the shield is for Brighton”
