orchid ⇢ what’s a song you consider to be perfect?

i don't think i have one! i honestly never thought about songs i like like that. and not to sound cheesy, but i think the flaws in the songs are a part of their charm (and my brain will always find something that it doesn't like).

ivy ⇢ what are your ‘tells’ for your emotions and moods? how can someone tell you’re happy, annoyed, upset or tired?

ooooh, this one's fun! if i don't have my nails painted i pick at my cuticles or bite them when i'm stressed and/or upset. tired; i get snappy and spacey, complete with a thousand yard stare. happy and comfortable; my volume grows proportionally, i laugh really loudly i've been told.

chamomile ⇢ what kind of things do you like receiving as gifts?

comfort items! scented candles, blankets, sweaters. i won't turn down a fun-colored nail polish either. practical things too, when i'm too lazy or i procrastinate getting them.

2024 was all about reading down my bedside table stack and now I'm free to read (slowly but steadily) without feeling beholden to the backlog.

Books I'd like to read in 2025:

Exordia- Seth Dickinson: I've heard such things about this book and really want to talk to folks about it

More Caitlin Starling: I just love her and I know she's got more stuff coming out in the coming year

Crime and Punishment- Fyodor Dostoevsky: ollie loved it

More Stephen Graham Jones: I love him as well

Honestly we've got so many books I haven't read that I really just meander around the shelves and pick whatever sounds good, without much rhyme or reason. It's a fun time!

1. Splitting the Atom by Massive Attack // They won't tell you this band has written songs other than the House MD theme song. and this one goes HARD. The album Heligoland was introduced to me by charlisaac through famous finveith playlist and it's perhaps my most frequently listened album in the past few days. I like this song in particular. For when you're feeling like the white Oppenheimer.

2. Answering the Phone by The Mountain Goats // This is one of my favorite TMG deep cuts, a bonus song from All Hail West Texas. In love with the line "I think something's wrong with me / I think something's glued down wrong maybe permanently". One of the only TMG songs on my playlist for my current fucked up D&D guy. Something IS wrong with him.

3. Northwest Passage by Unleash the Archers // my friend Kit (forgor their tumblr) made a sea shanties playlist and this song made me so Freaking emotional about life changing television show the Terror and the autocannibalistic nature of capitalism and imperialism. but also made it onto my running playlist so it's doing double duty.

4. Kill Yourself (Part III) by $uicideboy$ // Another song for the aforementioned Guy. I really am partial to songs abt ppl who are miserable and pathetic, and not just bc I needed to find some songs for this Guy's playlist.

5. Spiritual Architecture by Ashbringer // Emotionally haunting instrumental tunes to write scientific papers about the cellular biology of Plasmodium falciparum to and a cornerstone of @aeternitimperi's playlist for HIS little D&D guy who is friends (?) with My guy and they are collectively working through some trauma. And constructing more trauma but that's just how it is in this bitch of a Realm. And It wouldn't be fair for me to leave a song from that playlist off on account of it has kept me from going full joker in recent weeks.

i was tagged in wip whenever by @afaramir - thank you!! i'm not even writing any fic atm but i am continuing to pick away at a backstory for a campaign-less d&d character i made up with a friend years ago...... very normal about them. anyway here's a snippet from the POV of that character's friend.

Cyrus looks at them across their two rifles, both clutched white-knuckled on their knees. Meets their flickering red gaze. “I—I can’t.” He thinks he might throw up, half-wishes he would so that someone on the ground might know him for a coward and send him home. His first fight and he’s up in a tree, too scared to shoot anyone and too weak to feel anything but glad about it. And then he thinks of his ma, what she’d say if she heard him say that, and the nausea turns all at once to a hot press of tears behind his eyes. Funny—he didn’t even think to pray.
