Rewrite Tag 👁️🗨️
Thanks for the tag @illarian-rambling!! 💗
My line: From the doorway came a sound between a whimper and a sob. Sepo turned to see Twenari with her hand outstretched. White sparks clung to her fingers like a grotesque parody of shimmering makeup stolen from a parent’s vanity. Abruptly, her shaking knees gave out. The girl sank to the floor, hugging herself pitifully. With utterly dry eyes, she stared at the charred corpse, unblinking and expressionless.
My rewrite: Under the blood-red shadow that draped across the land, at the very hour when the eclipse reached its zenith and the world held its breath, Amara found her way to the Heart of Eldertide, a sacred grove said to pulse with the lifeblood of Briarwisp itself. The grove was a place of power, where the energies of the land converged in a nexus of ancient might. In the deep silence, broken only by the whispers of the Eldertide winds, Amara summoned the entity known in hushed tales as the (TBD 🥹), a demon of old whose legend was as old as the kingdom itself. The entity, drawn by the power of the eclipse and the boldness of her call, emerged from the realm of shadows, its form a maelstrom of ethereal darkness.
Your line: The entity, drawn by the power of the eclipse and the boldness of her call, emerged from the realm of shadows, its form a maelstrom of ethereal darkness.
I'll tag @leahnardo-da-veggie @queerfox-tales @katwritesshit and @inky-duchess 🤭 as well as any other eager participants! 💕 I love doing these

Writing out scenes with my main antagonist for my Briarwisp novel and this will be super helpful! Sharing for the ones who need a little guidance as well :)
Raise the Stakes (Make Failure Brutal)
Candy-coated consequences are for suckers. Failure in your story shouldn't be a slap on the wrist. It should be a punch to the gut, a faceplant into existential dread. Think beyond "mission failed" screens. Let your characters lose BIG. Force them to confront the horrifying cost of their mistakes. Show them the abyss that awaits if they falter. Only then will readers truly feel the weight of their choices.

I will be starting chapter one of Briarwisp with a poem.
☾
In the shadows, a secret sleeps, a tale of familial betrayal deep, Unknown kin with royal blood, in obscurity and silence, stood.
The throne, forgotten, its glory lost, paid a hefty cost.
Beneath the veneer of common birth, lies a lineage of noble worth. A heritage masked, in history's cloak, whispers of royalty it spoke.
In the echoes of forgotten lore, their true identities are restored.
Once vibrant and alive, the kingdom's heart fights for love; it strives. A battle fierce, the stakes are high, for the truth that lay awry.
The power of love never dies in the storm of deceit and lies. In the heart of an ordinary night, royal blood takes its rightful fight.
Against the chains of betrayal's plight, with love's undying light. Their heritage is carved in stone to reclaim the throne.
☽
I'm getting better at free form, wondering if it's any good or could it be improved upon?

Demetrius Hawthorne is a figure marked by both royal heritage and a curse that shadows his every step. He possesses dark mocha skin that holds a curious translucence, an eerie effect of the curse laid upon him, giving him an almost ethereal appearance. His features are sharply defined, with high cheekbones and a stern jawline inherited from his grandmother, Queen Amara. Demetrius's eyes are a deep, dark onyx, reflecting the turmoil and darkness within him, often seeming to flicker with shadows that are not entirely of this world.
Born under a dark star, Demetrius’s life has been anything but ordinary. His birth was accompanied by omens and whispers of a curse—an ancient binding laid upon him by their grandmother, meant to ensure his loyalty and service to the throne of Briarwisp. Raised in secrecy and isolated from the royal lineage, he grew up in the remote lands of Ashmont, under the care of guardians who knew little of his true origin.
Being the firstborn child of Tijani, they share a profound yet complex connection with their younger sisters, Imani, Jade, and Jasmine. They are linked not only by blood but also by the shared legacy of their mother, who mysteriously disappeared after confronting the dark forces shaping their destiny. This shared lineage places them within the tangled webs of magic, prophecy, and power struggles that define the Isles of Aurorith.
The journey of the Hawthorne sisters to Briarwisp eventually leads to their encounter with Demetrius. Initially, this revelation is fraught with tension and conflict. Demetrius, influenced by the curse and the dark machinations of his grandmother, views his newfound siblings with suspicion and conflict. He struggles with feelings of abandonment and betrayal, as well as the instinctive pull of dark magic that seeks to use him against his own kin.
They are a complex non-binary character, torn between the darkness forced upon him and the lingering traces of the nobility that runs through his veins. He is introspective and often brooding, grappling with the dual nature of his existence. The curse that binds him compels Demetrius towards darkness, but a part of him yearns for the light, reflecting a constant battle within his soul.
Demetrius can manipulate shadows and dreams of others to his will, using them to cloak himself or create illusions to deceive others. His touch can also drain the vitality of others, a dire aspect of his curse that he struggles to control and despises for its destructive nature.
As the Shadow Prince, Demetrius is both a potential adversary and a tragic figure within the saga of the Hawthorne family. His destiny is deeply entwined with that of his cousins, the Hawthorne sisters, who may hold the key to his salvation or his ultimate undoing.
Throughout the story, Demetrius's journey involves a painful exploration of identity and destiny. They seek to understand the origins of their curse and fight against the dark fate that has been imposed upon him. His interactions with his sisters bring him closer to fragments of truth about his mother and the real intentions of Queen Amara.
Demetrius's character development is marked by his struggle for redemption and the desire to break free from the chains of his dark legacy. His journey is one of self-discovery, as he seeks to redefine his role beyond the shadows that have shaped his existence.
Demetrius, the Shadow Prince, is a character shaped by conflict and contrast. He's very special to me, I relate to him so much which is why I want to take my time in curating their legacy in a profound way. His story is a poignant blend of darkness and hope, serving as a crucial element in the broader narrative of the Aurorith Isles. As he confronts his inner demons and the external forces that seek to control him, Demetrius embodies the themes of legacy, redemption, and the enduring battle between darkness and light.

The Queen herself. 🤭 Now this is her when the prologue takes place. Imagine tons more grey hair and a frown line that hints at yearsss of stress from monarchy. I want to redesign her to be a bit more heavyset as well, I love the idea of her being a thicc evil matron.
Cute first draft though!
Amara Estancia & The Throne Built on Secrets
As I sit in the twilight of my reign, pen poised over pages that have yet to bear witness to the truth, I am compelled to recount the journey that led me here. It is not for absolution or sympathy, but for the record of history—so that the legacy of my efforts might be understood in their full context.
Born in the stark village of Ashmont, my childhood was defined by a relentless environment that taught me early on about survival and ambition. The austere landscape was both a cradle and a crucible, forging a resolve in me that was as unyielding as the cliffs surrounding my early world. I outgrew Ashmont quickly, my aspirations extending far beyond its confines.
My ambition led me to a forbidden path—a dark pact that promised more than mere survival: it offered a throne. The ancient entity that whispered promises of power was my benefactor and my curse. This pact was my ascension and shackles, providing the means to rise to power but binding me to an eternal game of shadows.
The demise of my husband, the king, marked my true rise to power. It was a calculated act, born of necessity rather than malice. His death was not an act of passion but a strategic move to secure my position and implement my vision for Briarwisp. As queen, I wore the dual veils of benevolence and ruthlessness, each as necessary as the other in the art of governance.
Perhaps the darkest of my deeds was the curse laid upon my daughter, Tijani. It was meant to bind her to my will, to secure my legacy through her. Yet, it was this act that would eventually lead to the unraveling of all I had built. I did not foresee that my granddaughters, shielded from the magical world, would one day return to Briarwisp, their powers awakening to the truth of their heritage.
Imani, Jade, and Jasmine—each a bearer of formidable magic—pieced together the mosaic of secrets and spells that was their legacy. It was their quest for truth that peeled back the layers of my carefully constructed sovereignty, exposing the foundation of darkness upon which it was built.
Now, as I reflect upon my reign, I see the cost of power, the weight of the crown, and the echoes of choices that reverberate through generations. My story is not one of simple villainy but a complex web of necessity, ambition, and the deep, often painful, love for my kingdom and my family.
These writings are not an apology- my life required decisions that many may never forgive. Instead, they are an explanation, a hope that in understanding my motives, the shadows of my actions might be seen as part of a larger narrative of survival and sovereignty in a world that respects only power.

The Isles of Aurorith - World Introduction!!
Welcome to the magical world of the Aurorith Isles, a sprawling fantasy realm rich with lore, mythical creatures, and intricate landscapes. I'm gonna take you behind the scenes to share the process of creating such a diverse and captivating world, which serves as the backdrop for my upcoming novel.
The Genesis of the Isles
The Aurorith Isles emerged from my desire to explore themes of power, heritage, and the natural balance through a fantasy lens. Each region of the Isles was crafted to represent different aspects of the world and its inhabitants, reflecting their unique cultures, histories, and magic.
The regions of Aurorith
1. The Briarwisp Kingdom - The central kingdom of Aurorith, where the royal family's castle resides and the focal point of much of the political and magical intrigue in the story.
2. Lorelai's Lagoons - A tranquil series of waterways home to the Siren Queen and her court, famous for its mesmerizing beauty and dangerous allure.
3. Chimeric Ridge - A rugged terrain where magical beasts roam, and ancient ruins hold secrets of a bygone era.
5. Sablespire - Known for its harsh landscapes and dark legends, this area is often associated with tales of sorcery and dark magic.
6. Ashmont - A desolate and harsh landscape characterized by its rugged terrain and sparse vegetation, home to hardy creatures and tough inhabitants.
7. Feybrook - A lush, enchanted forest that is vibrant with magical flora and fauna, serving as a sanctuary for various magical beings.
8. Spectral Springs - Renowned for its healing waters and mystical mists that are said to reveal visions to those who wander through.
9. Anchorage Grove - A peaceful region known for its fertile lands and the harmonious community that emphasizes living in sync with nature.
10. Glimmerforge Mountains - Known for its mystical forges that once produced enchanted weapons and artifacts.
Each of these regions hold their own rich history and I can't wait to dive in with you all. I'm finishing up the lore of Lorelai (hehe) Lagoons today 🤭
