AU is hoping to add another hard hitting linebacker in 4* Desmond Tisdol tomorrow. | Desmond Tisdol’s Twitter: https://twitter.com/Des_Tisdol/status/1189894310386393088
Auburn is hoping to add some more big time talent to their 2020 class this week
In less than 24 hours the faxes will start rolling in and staffs will finally get a more complete picture of what type of class they will be signing in 2020. These final hours are crucial as coaching staffs across the country work the phone lines in hopes of offering that last minute pitch to convince an elite prospect that their program is the place to be.
Before though we dive into the decisions to come and who will/won’t be signing tomorrow, let’s start with another strange recruitment that took another weird turn.
Brian George Commits to A&M
One of the prospects it seemed Auburn felt best about heading into this week was the nation’s #5 JUCO 4* DB Brian George. He was on campus for the Iron Bowl and returned the next weekend for an official visit. After that visit, he told reporters a commitment video would soon drop. But just like in late July, a pledge never came.
Then on Sunday night, AuburnUndercover’s Keith Niebuhr dropped a pretty big bomb reporting that Auburn had moved on from George. He didn’t provide much further context on the decision either. The gist of it was that the staff felt like it was in both sides best interest to part ways. That the 3rd time this month there has been a parting of ways with former top topics. First, there was 4* LB Phillip Webb cancelling his official visit. Second, came 4* OT Javion Cohen’s not so pleasant flip to the Tide. And now finally, there’s Brian George. I think all three instances are very different but it’s still worth noting there’s been a lot of sudden ends to recruitments this cycle.
Earlier this afternoon, George FINALLY dropped a commitment video. It wasn’t the one many people were expecting to see just last week as it ended with George announcing his pledge to Texas A&M.
Leave Everything in Gods Hands Everything was Gods Plan !!! COMMITTED (no interviews) @jayhawkmike @Coach_MoGray pic.twitter.com/Rbvxe9QSFX
— BrianGeorge (@briangeorge1100) December 17, 2019
The Aggies were listed as his #2 school following his OV to the Plains so it’s not a huge surprise that’s where he would land following Auburn’s decision to move on. A&M is also having some struggles finding early impact players at that position so this might turn out to be a big win for both George & the Aggies.
As for Auburn, the focus now turns 4* DB Eric Reed. I will have more on him later but if the Tigers were to miss there it appears they won’t make a move on JUCO DB Emmanuel Appiah and instead evaluate the DB prospects that remain following this week. Things change fast in recruiting and that has sure been the case these past 2 weeks for the Tigers.
Early Signing Day Preview
With that out of the way, it’s time to focus on what should be a very busy day tomorrow. Auburn is hoping to sign the majority of its current 2020 class and add a few crucial late pieces Wednesday. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect along with some guesses on what goes down.
Auburn Commits Signing AND Enrolling Early
5* RB Tank Bigsby
4* WR Kobe Hudson
4* DL Zykeivous Walker
4* DB Ladarius Tennison
4* S Chris Thompson Jr
4* CB Marco Domio
3* OL Avery Jernigan
3* OT Kilian Zierer (ACL Injury)
3* DL Daniel Foster-Allen
3* QB Chayil Garnett
Auburn Commits Signing Early
4* LB Wesley Steiner
4* WR Ze’Vian Capers
4* WR J.J. Evans
3* OT Brenden Coffey
3* WR Elijah Cannion -> Will be “announcing” final decision between AU & UF. Confident he sticks with AU
3* OL Jeremiah Wright
Auburn Commits Possibly Not Signing Early
4* DL Jay Hardy -> Mixed messages on this one. Has told staff he would sign early but has also told UT he won’t. Reportedly will be at a basketball tourney all week in Florida. As of now, lean towards him not signing
4* LB Cam Riley -> Has mentioned wanting to take some OVs in spring. I lean though towards him signing early
3* OT Jonathan Buskey -> Reportedly academic concerns with Buskey so staff might want him to wait until February & see where his grades stand. Would be surprised if he signed early
Auburn Targets Announcing
Here’s a look at who is expected to announce their decisions and sign during the early period. A big domino (both literally and figuratively) will fall tonight. As for my predictions, I am gonna add a confidence level of Lock (VERY confident in pick), 50/50 (leaning that direction but far from certain) and No Idea (literally just me guessing).
3* OT Jeremy Flax | 6’6” | 320 lbs | Commiting Tuesday @ 5 PM CT
Contenders: Auburn, Kentucky, Texas Tech
On paper, Auburn’s JUCO plan made a lot of sense. Go out and target the top JUCO tackles, sign a bunch of him, get them on campus in spring and let them battle for starting roles for 2020. Auburn currently has three JUCOs committed ranked #1, #3 & #6. Problem is none of those three will be participating in spring practice. Zierer tore his ACL so will be out until next fall, Coffey is a summer enrollee and there are concerns that Buskey will even qualify at all.
That forced AU to go on the hunt for a 4th JUCO OT and they have made a tremendous push for the #2 JUCO in the country Jeremy Flax. Following his official visit last week there was a lot of confidence on the Plains he would land with the Tigers. But after an official visit to Lexington this past weekend, that confidence appears to have evaporated. UK has been after Flax much longer than Auburn and those relationships are looking to prove the difference. He will announce his decision later this afternoon and there’s always a chance the Tigers make a late push but it’s not looking good for the good guys right now.
If Auburn were to miss on Flax that would mean none of their 2020 offensive tackle signees would be participating in spring ball. No good way to spin that other than hoping some of the young guys on campus can take the next step.
Prediction: Kentucky (Lock)
4* TE Jeremiah Pegues | 6’3” | 285 lbs | Committing Wednesday @ 8 AM CT
Contenders: Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss
It will be hard for me to ever classify the tight end position as a “need” but it is a spot AU would like filled in 2020 and there’s been a clear target to fill it this whole cycle. The #4 ranked player in the state of Mississippi is a unique athlete who does have the skillset to combine the different roles of the 3 back position. Instead of having to sub Jay Jay Wilson in for pass plays and Spencer Nigh to run the ball, you could trust Pegues to do both. He’s the exact type of player that Chad Morris has proven to use successfully in the past (think Jordan Leggett).
For much of this race, Auburn has been the team to beat with Ole Miss chasing. After Matt Luke’s firing, Pegues effectively eliminated them from his recruitment which should be good news. The bad news? The Crimson Tide have always lurked and given the fact they are probably going to end up whiffing on their top 2 tight end targets, expect Nick Saban to turn the heat up on Pegues before his announcement. A week ago I probably would have had this as a lock. Now? I still think AU will be the pick but it’s way closer than you wish it would be. It would not be a stunner if Pegues were to pick the Tide tomorrow but I am banking on his long time flame being the choice in the end.
Prediction: Auburn (50/50)
4* LB Desmond Tisdol | 6’0” | 217 lbs | Committing Wednesday @ 9 AM CT
Contenders: Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee
In happier news, things appear to be trending in the right direction for Auburn and Desmond Tisdol. The thumper out of south Georgia has always wanted to be a Tiger but the class filled up in a hurry this summer before he was ready to make a decision. But Trenton Simpson’s decommitment appears to have opened up a spot for Tisdol’s taking and barring a late change of heart, I think Auburn fans will be hearing a Boom coming from the Plains early tomorrow morning.
Prediction: Auburn (Lock)
4* DT Dallas Walker | 6’4” | 315 lbs | Committing Wednesday @ 12 PM CT
Contenders: Auburn, Texas A&M
Last week, I think AU had moved ahead for Walker. He had been on campus three times in the last four weeks including an official visit. But Jimbo ain’t no shrinking violet on the recruiting trail. He was able to convince Walker to take one final trek to College Station this past weekend before making his final decision. Actions speak much louder than words in recruiting and Walker being willing to pay his own dime to go see A&M one more time makes me think that AU might not have done enough to pull off the flip. It would not be a shocker if were to still happen but I think right now the Tennessee native will stick with his commitment.
Prediction: Texas A&M (50/50)
3* Buck Romello Height | 6’5” | 216 lbs | Committing Wednesday @ 12 PM CT
Contenders: Auburn, Miami
I am not sure I have written much on Height. His recruitment has been a bit bizarre. Publicly he looks as committed as you would want a prospect. He made his pledge to the Canes over the summer and has consistently stated he’s solid including announcing that he had shut down his recruitment last week.
But Auburn has been after him the whole time. Height has denied it but reporters for Miami believe that he was on campus this past weekend for an official visit to the Plains. No Auburn reporters have said much other than the Tigers feel like they have a legitimate shot at flipping Height. This feels a bit like maybe AU is on the other side of a Pickens deal. Anyone saying with any sort of confidence they know what Height will do tomorrow is probably a bit full of it. But I am going to go out on a limb and say AU does pull of the surprise and land their pass rusher for the 2020 class.
Prediction: Auburn (No Idea)
4* DB Eric Reed Jr. | 6’1” | 197 lbs | Committing Wednesday @ 3 PM CT
Contenders: Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame
This is a race that is trending in the right direction for the Tigers. Last week, I would have listed Reed as a Lock to UGA but there is significant buzz this is still a true 2 team race between AU & UGA. The Dawgs might still have an edge but I am not sure a decision has been made yet. UGA just recently landed 4* DB Major Burns and are believed to be the leader for 5* CB Kelee Ringo. Would they also take Reed? Does Reed see a chance to get to the field sooner at AU, especially with George no longer in the picture? No idea. I am not bold enough to pick the upset but I do think this is more of a battle than first believed.
Prediction: Georgia (50/50)
5* OT Broderick Jones | 6’5” | 175 lbs | Not Signing This Week
I am listing Jones only because I have seen some out on the AU interwebs hoping that the player Tate Johnson and Avery Jernigan have been buzzing about on Twitter is the 5* UGA commit. However, Jones has told both AU and UGA folks he plans to wait until February before making a decision. Considering he’s yet to even meet with UGA’s new OL coach, I would be shocked if he decided to out of nowhere flip to AU. It would be a nice surprise if it were to happen but I think you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you think something goes down this week. I do, however, very much believe AU can flip Jones. It won’t be easy but they will get their shot in January.
Final Thoughts
Assuming that my predictions prove true (they won’t) that would mean Auburn signs 18 of their 20 commits tomorrow and add 3 more to the class. That would leave only 2 spots left to fill which is a very good place to be heading into January. The focus would then be on top targets such as Jones and McKinnley Jackson along with keeping Hardy in the fold.
The Tigers have a good shot at landing another top 10 class and barring a collapse at the finish I think that’s exactly what happens. Whether good or bad, there will definitely be plenty of news to follow tomorrow on the trail.

With early signing day right around the corner, things are heating up on the Plains.
We are just over 1 week from early signing day which means it’s crunch time on the recruiting trail. This past weekend was one of two remaining weekends for top programs around the country to get their top targets on campus before many of them make their final decision and sign. The Tigers hosted eight players on official visits this weekend. All but one is expected to sign on December 18th so this was a big chance for Auburn’s coaching staff to make a final push for some big targets.
Here’s a rundown of who made it to campus this past weekend
4* LB Wesley Steiner | 6’0” | 220 lbs | Warner Robins, GA
Committed to Auburn since the beginning of July, Steiner has remained rock solid to the Tigers throughout his recruitment. Due to his quiet recruitment and the drama surrounding Auburn’s previously top ranked linebacker commit Trenton Simpson, Steiner doesn’t get the amount of attention you might expect for a top 100 player. But I have a feeling Auburn fans will be talking about him plenty when he suits up for the Tigers next fall. He’s a special athlete that has a chance to make an impact as a true freshman in 2020.
4* DT McKinnley Jackson | 6’2” | 327 lbs | Lucedale, MS
Jackson is the only visitor this weekend not expected to sign early. Instead, the former LSU commit plans to use the rest of his visits in January and announce his decision on National Signing Day in February. But this was likely the last time he will be on campus for the Tigers before his decision so Auburn hopefully made the most of it. He confirmed with reporters Sunday afternoon that he’s dropped Ole Miss from his top five following Matt Luke’s firing meaning he’s down to Auburn, Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. He’s already officially visited the Tide and will use his remaining three visits in January. Auburn is in the middle of this race and I think it will come down to an AU/A&M battle.
Auburn Official this weekend #WDE
— ™ (@macFresco99) December 6, 2019
4* WR J.J. Evans | 6’2” | 185 lbs | Montevallo, AL
Another longtime Auburn commit, Evans was #2 in receiving yards in the state of Alabama last season. Unfortunately, an ankle injury hampered Evans much of the 2019 campaign but he still put together a productive senior season. At one time this fall it looked like the Crimson Tide might become a factor for the state’s 5th ranked player but Evans appears to be all Auburn at this time and is expected to sign during the early signing period.
4* CB Brian George | 6’2” | 190 lbs | Belle Glade, FL
One of the most important visitors this weekend was the nation’s #6 overall JUCO prospect Brian George. He’s had an interesting recruitment to say the least. Auburn looked to be close to landing his pledge following the War Eagle Picnic but then George went dark. There were rumors he would take an official visit to Kentucky but that never happened. Instead, he popped up in College Station one weekend resulting in many believing he would end up an Aggie. But George decided to visit for the Iron Bowl last weekend and it looks like that might have been a game changer for Auburn in his recruitment. After leaving his official visit this past weekend, he told reporters that Auburn was now his top team and he would announce his decision later this week. The Tigers want at least one more DB in this class. Could George finish off what has been an outstanding 2020 DB class for the Tigers?
Back in auburn this Weekend for an Official
— BrianGeorge (@briangeorge1100) December 6, 2019
3* OT Jeremy Flax | 6’6” | 320 lbs | Detroit, MI
Last week, AuburnUndercover’s Brandon Marcello reported that Auburn’s top ranked JUCO commit Kilien Zierer had suffered an ACL injury and would miss all of spring practice. For a few weeks now there has been buzz that longtime JUCO OT commit Jonathan Buskey might have some academic issues preventing him from enrolling at Auburn. Auburn’s final JUCO OL commit, Brenden Coffey, is not expected to enroll until this summer. So that means Auburn has 3 JUCO OT commits but none capable of battling for the starting spot this spring.
Enter Jeremy Flax.
The newly minted top JUCO OT in the 2020 class per 247 Composite, Flax has suddenly become a top target for the Tigers. Auburn offered him last week and then were able to get him on campus this past weekend. He apparently liked what he saw, naming the Tigers his top team following his official visit. He still has one final official visit to Lexington before making his decision. Flax has three years to play three after redshirting his freshman season at Independence Community College and is also an early enrollee. This would be a very big late pull if Auburn could pull it off.
OT at the University of......
— Jeremy Flax 6️⃣6️⃣ (@BiggFlax) December 9, 2019
3* DT Dallas Walker | 6’4” | 315 lbs | Smyrna, TN
There is one simple rule you can follow when attempting to evaluate high school defensive line talent. Does Rodney Garner want this kid?
Despite not boasting the flashiest rating, Walker is one of Auburn’s top targets in the 2020 class. After evaluating the Tennessee native in person this past spring, Auburn offered and have been heavily pursuing ever since. Walker committed to Texas A&M back in June but has been a frequent visitor to Auburn’s campus in recent weeks including witnessing the Iron Bowl just last weekend inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. He was back on campus this weekend but declined to do interviews. If a flip happens, it likely won’t come until signing day. With that said, I think Auburn is a in a very good spot to land a 2nd stud defensive lineman from the state of Tennessee in the 2020 class.
3* OL Jeremiah Wright | 6’4” | 320 lbs | Selma, AL
There has been some recent Georgia Tech buzz with Wright so it’s good to see him making it to campus this past weekend. He’s a big kid with the potential play anywhere along the line though I suspect his future is in the interior. Wright is not expected to be an early enrollee but could sign on December 18th.
3* DL Daniel Foster-Allen | 6’4” | 250 lbs | Mobile, AL
Probably the least talked about recruit in this class, Foster-Allen committed to Auburn back in February and basically shut his recruitment down. He took what will be his only official visit over the weekend and is as locked in with the Tigers as any recruit. I suspect he will start his career at strong side defensive end (ala Marlon Davidson) but grow into an interior defensive lineman.
Decision Dates Set
With signing day just over a week away, there are lot of decisions to be made which means a lot of decision dates to be set. Quite a few Auburn targets have already done so starting with a big one later this morning in 4* DL Omari Thomas.
I am blessed and honored to be in this position. I would like to invite everyone to my COLLEGE COMMITMENT and All American Jersey Presentation which will be held on December 9th at Briarcrest Christian School. @AABonNBC @_KhariThompson @Local24Jessica TIME WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON! pic.twitter.com/nMTGXwhJpQ
— Omari "Big O" Thomas (@901_sxvxge) November 24, 2019
This is a recruitment Auburn has made up a ton of ground on in just a few months culminating in his official visit two weekends ago for the Iron Bowl. But while the Tigers have made this a legitimate battle, I will be shocked if Tennessee is not the pick today. The Vols have long been considered one of his top schools and with his close friend and teammate 3* RB Jabari Small expected to pick UT in a few days too, all the signs are there for a big win on the trail for Tennessee. Luckily for Auburn they have some very good remaining options on the table including the afore mentioned Dallas Walker, McKinnley Jackson and JUCO prospect DeAndre Butler (who will not sign until February).
Next there’s long time Auburn LB target 4* LB Desmond Tisdol who has officially locked in his top 3 of Auburn, Tennessee and South Carolina with a date set for the first day of the early signing period.
Decision December 18th @AuburnFootball @Vol_Football @GamecockCentral @RobStowe4 @ChadSimmons_ @Mansell247 @Keith247Sports pic.twitter.com/UyuqN5CC8O
— Desmond Tisdol⭐️ (@Des_Tisdol) December 5, 2019
This recruitment has seen plenty of twists and turns. The Gamecocks were the early favorite before Auburn surged ahead this summer. But Wesley Steiner pulled the trigger first, stealing what was at the time the only remaining linebacker slot in the 2020 class for Auburn. But Simpson’s decommitment plus Michael Harris’s decision to transfer has made Tisdol to Auburn a possible scenario once again. However, during the cool down time between Auburn and Tisdol, Jeremy Pruitt’s Vols have made a big move. As of now, Tennessee might be the favorite but it’s probably too close to call today. It will be interesting to see if he makes it to campus before he announces his final decision.
While Auburn is hoping they get a Boom from Brian George later this week, there’s also an underclassmen to consider. Former Ole Miss commit, 4* DB Eric Reed Jr, is set to make his pledge on the first day of early signing day as well.
Signing December 18th @3pm.. pic.twitter.com/n8m1UFZI6F
— Eric Reed Jr (@EricReedJr3) December 5, 2019
While he lists a top four of Auburn, LSU, Georgia and Notre Dame, this is really a two team battle between the Dawgs and Tigers. UGA was seen as the leader heading into his official visit this past weekend so this might be a tough race for Auburn to win. If Auburn does indeed land George then I think they will be ok with missing on Reed. Still, UGA is pursuing some other elite CB talent so there’s always a chance Reed loses his spot there too. I don’t expect it to happen but you can never really know in recruiting.
Finally, a very big domino is expected to drop in the 2021 class the day before the start of the early signing period. The #38 prospect in next year’s class, 4* OT Micah Morris, will make his decision next Tuesday.
No more interviews at this time... Commitment on the 17th pic.twitter.com/ENjEgyoHYw
— Micah Morris® (@MicahMorris56cc) December 6, 2019
Like Reed, this is believed to be another Auburn-Georgia contest. The Dawgs have long been thought to be the leader but Auburn has made a strong charge in recent weeks including hosting Morris for the Iron Bowl. There was also a recent staff change in Athens that could make things interesting too...
Coaching Carousel Impact
The coaching carousel is at full tilt. Many of these changes will likely have an effect on Auburn’s recruiting efforts down the road. Lane Kiffin will make Mississipp recruiting even wilder than usual. Mike Norvell could try and poach his former assistants from Malzahn at his new FSU gig. A former Malzahn protege is likely headed to Columbia so could see some more Auburn/Missouri battles down the road. But undoubtedly the biggest news so far has been Arkansas’s surprising move to hire away UGA’s OL coach Sam Pittman.
We’ve got ourselves a new Head Hog! Welcome to Arkansas, Coach Pittman! pic.twitter.com/is92knv5pQ
— Arkansas Razorback Football (@RazorbackFB) December 9, 2019
Kirby Smart has built a recruiting death machine in Athens, reeling in top class after top class since his arrival. Sam Pittman has been a key cog in that machine. In his four years between the hedges, he helped sign 8 top 100 OL, four being 5*s and currently has four more top 200 players committed including 5* OT Broderick Jones. This is a big loss for the Dawgs.
More importantly, it could be a big boost for the Tigers. Auburn has never given up their pursuit of the nation’s #2 overall offensive tackle prospect Jones. Just last week, he confirmed that he won’t be signing early and will be taking an official visit to the Plains in January.
With an #Auburn OL commit flirting with Bama, the Tigers will get an official from a 5-star OT committed elswhere (VIP) https://t.co/s0m8k6X96X pic.twitter.com/IWMKXOmIDo
— Keith Niebuhr (@Keith247Sports) December 5, 2019
As mentioned above, one of the best OL prospects in the country for the 2021 class is expected to make his decision next week. Does he decide to hold off or pull the trigger? There will be some fall out from this move. Will it result in some crucial wins on the trail for the Tigers? We will see but this is definitely something to track in the coming weeks.

Turns out beating your rival in one of the best games of the year is a good way to impress recruits. Weird right?
After going a month without a chance to host any of their top targets, the month of November has been a godsend for the Tigers’ recruiting efforts. But no weekend quite has the star studded list as the Iron Bowl. It’s even better when all that talent gets to see the Tigers bring home the win. There was an impressive list of visitors on campus this past weekend who got a chance to experience the awesomeness that is a rocking Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Big Friday Night Boom
Before diving into the response to Auburn’s epic Iron Bowl victory, I think it’s important to talk about what happened the day prior. In case you missed it, 4* DE Zykeivous Walker told reporters Friday afternoon he planned on announcing his commitment that evening. Hours later, he announced his pledge to the Auburn Tigers.

This was an absolutely monster win on the trail for this coaching staff. Make no mistake, this is a kid Georgia not only wanted but expected to be in their 2020 class. Auburn though always felt like it had a shot. Like previous recruitments of Marlon Davidson and Big Kat Bryant, Walker just had the feel of an Auburn man. He clicked with the staff pretty much immediately but the big move came following his official visit last month. Walker is expected to not only sign later in a few weeks but will be an early enrollee as well. Don’t be surprised if Walker is making plays for this Auburn defense immediately next season.
Recapping Official Visits
This past weekend was obviously a big weekend for recruiting and the Tigers welcomed four official visitors to campus. Here’s a quick rundown on who made it and where things stand in their recruitments:
4* DT Omari Thomas - Auburn’s recruitment of Thomas started slow as the Tigers liked him at offensive tackle but he sees himself as a defensive lineman. However, now that Auburn is willing to take the top 100 player on the defensive side of the ball they have become a factor. This was Thomas’s first time seeing a game live in Jordan-Hare and from all accounts came away very impressed. He’s expected to announce his commitment next Monday, December 9th. The home state Vols are thought to be the current leader in the clubhouse but we have seen already that Rodney Garner can make a move in a hurry if he wants a guy. Definitely an announcement to keep an eye on next week.
4* DB Eric Reed - Reed’s commitment to Ole Miss had been on shaky ground ever since Auburn and Georgia dished out offers earlier this fall. With Matt Luke’s surprise firing, Reed announced this week he was no longer committed to the Rebels.

This is now an Auburn vs Georgia battle with the Dawgs possibly holding the edge. Auburn wants at least one more defensive back and would take Reed in a heartbeat if he wanted on board. Reed reportedly enjoyed his visit to the Plains but will be in Athens this weekend. We will see what unfolds over these next couple of weeks.
4* DT Josaih Hayes - Another former Ole Miss commit, Hayes has only recently popped up as a top target for the Tigers. Like pretty much everyone in attendance, Hayes came away very impressed with the atmosphere in Jordan-Hare Stadium per AuburnUndercover’s Keith Niebuhr. Did Auburn do enough to steal the Mississippi native away? That remains to be seen but a decision is expected in December so we won’t have to wait long to find out. The Tigers all of a sudden have just a few spots left on the defensive line so Auburn can afford to get picky late.
CB Emmanuel Appiah - Still unranked, Appiah has had one of the more interesting recruitments. His offer list currently consists of Auburn, Rutgers and Tennessee. He’s put up video game numbers this fall for his JUCO team and the coaching staff is reportedly very high on the Ghana native. But will he have a spot come early signing day? It’s really hard to tell because there could be a major move at that position very soon...
Loved my time this past weekend at Auburn! Amazing atmosphere and experience! Thank you for having me! WAR EAGLE @MarcusWoodsonAU @coachcrimedawg pic.twitter.com/0pdMmRR63s

Boom Coming Soon?
There was a pretty big late addition to Auburn’s visitor list this past Saturday. The nation’s #6 overall JUCO prospect 4* DB Brian George traveled north to the Plains to witness Auburn’s epic Iron Bowl victory. From the sound of things, the visit went as well as anyone at Auburn could have hoped.
That was probably the most lit game I ever been

George told reporters after the game he had made his mind up on his recruitment. He’s expected back for an official visit this weekend. It would not at all surprise me if George’s name is added to Auburn’s 2020 commit list this time next week. This has been a recruitment with a lot of twists and turns so things could always change at any moment but as of right now Auburn appears to once again be in the driver’s seat for one of the best JUCO prospects in the country.
Elite 2021 Talent On Campus
There were plenty of important 2020 prospects on campus this past weekend but where Auburn will likely really see the effects of Saturday’s game is in next year’s class. One game obviously doesn’t change recruitments but it can definitely have an affect. Look no further than Owen Pappoe who said that it was seeing Auburn take down Alabama and Georgia in person that made him really decide to consider the Tigers.
Auburn’s 2021 list was as loaded as it gets including five 5* recruits. Here’s a quick look at those recruits a long with two other names to watch in the coming weeks.
5* OT Tommy Brockermeyer - Ranked the nation’s #3 overall player in the 2021 class, Brockermeyer got a chance to see Auburn in action Saturday afternoon along with his brother 4* C James Brockermeyer. Both appeared to be impressed. He’s long been pegged a Texas lock due to his family ties but Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and LSU are all real threats in this race. I fully expect to see him and his brother back on the Plains in the coming months.
Had an unbelievable time this weekend at Auburn. Definitely game of the year. Can’t wait to come back again! #WarEagle @AuburnA1 @AuburnFootball @CoachJBGrimes pic.twitter.com/Nad6qads5A
— Tommy Brockermeyer (@TBrockermeyer) December 1, 2019
5* S James Williams - I am not sure there is a more clear future NFL 1st round draft pick in the 2021 class than Williams. A 6’5” 218 lb safety, Williams is a freaky athlete you just don’t find very often. Auburn, like everyone else in the country, is working hard to snag the elite defensive back and they have a legit chance at getting it done. Williams has been to Auburn a number of times and was back for the Iron Bowl Saturday. There is a feeling that early this might be an Auburn-Georgia battle but I think Clemson is one to keep an eye on as well.
5* OT Amarius Mims - It’s early and things could obviously change but this feels like a longshot for the Tigers. After all, he told AuburnSports.com he was actually cheering for Alabama Saturday evening... With that said, Mims is an elite prospect at a major position of need so Auburn is going to give it their best shot. Right now UGA is considered the clear favorite but we will see if Auburn can change things with Mims. Landing someone else on this list in a few weeks would do a lot of good in that regard....
5* DE Dylan Brooks - Follow the visits is a common refrain in the recruiting world. Applied to Brooks, the state’s #1 player in the 2021 class, it points to Auburn being in a VERY good position for the Roanoke, AL native. Brooks, by my count at least, made it to every single home game this fall on the Plains including some clunkers like Kent State. He’s obviously going to get a ton of pressure from every program especially the Tide but as of right now, you really have to like where Auburn sits for the elite pass rusher. Auburn landed 5* DT Lee Hunter yesterday. Pairing Hunter with Brooks would be a monster haul for Rodney Garner.
5* CB Ga’Quincy McKinstry - Nicknamed Kool-Aid, McKinstry is one of the more unique prospects in next year’s class. Not only does Gus Malzahn want the talented Pinson Valley standout but Bruce Pearl does too. He holds offers from both coaches and has been given the assurance he would be allowed to play both for the Tigers. I fully expect other programs to follow suit as McKinstry seems excited about the idea. This race is likely to go the distance and it’s going to be a battle between Auburn, Alabama and Clemson. Right now the Tigers sit in a good spot but this one is far from over and given Auburn’s history (or really the lack thereof) in signing 5* DBs, I would approach this recruitment with cautious optimism.
4* OT Micah Morris - Morris has been known in the recruiting world since he was a freshman in high school. The 6’4” 316 lb lineman could play anywhere on the line at the next level but I would think Auburn wants him at offensive tackle if possible. It’s rare that he and Mims aren’t on a visit together so landing his pledge would be a major boon in Auburn’s efforts to get involved with Mims. Morris is expected to make his commitment later this month. It’s an Auburn-Georgia battle with the Dawgs having long thought to be the team to beat. This is a very important recruitment in the 2021 cycle and one Auburn desperately needs to win as they look boost their OL recruiting efforts.
3* OT Caleb Johnson - Auburn was the first Power 5 school to offer Johnson. He’s since blown up sporting offers from the likes of Arkansas, Florida State, Louisville and others. It’s early so don’t let the lower rating full you, Auburn likes Johnson and would love to get him on board soon if possible. 247 national recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong Crystal Ball’d (aka predicted) Johnson to Auburn following the Iron Bowl. Will be interesting to see if a decision comes soon or not for the 6’7” 295 lb offensive tackle out of Ocala, FL
Three New Offers
At this point in the recruiting cycle, any offers Auburn doles out deserve scrutiny. With early signing day just a few weeks away and very few spots left in this class, any offers sent out now either mean Auburn is concerned about filling a current spot, expecting some attrition or stumbled onto a player that put together a big time senior campaign (think DJ Williams). So far this week, Auburn has put out three new offers of note.
The first one was probably the biggest surprise. Monday afternoon, Tennessee commit 4* ATH Jimmy Calloway announced on Twitter he had been offered by the Tigers.
Blessed to receive a offer from Auburn university @MarcusWoodsonAU pic.twitter.com/O8D2Hpurvu
— jimmy calloway (@Jimmycalloway1) December 2, 2019
At first, I thought this offer was related to Auburn’s effort to land another defensive back. But later, Calloway told AuburnUndercover’s Keith Niebuhr that the Tigers actually want him on offense, possibly at wide receiver. So does this mean Auburn could be losing a WR commit? Maybe... Ze’Vian Capers was giving North Carolina a hard look just a month ago but it looks like Auburn might have firmed up his commitment. Elijah Cannion is a name that hasn’t shown up a ton on Auburn’s visitor lists this fall while appearing in Gainesville a couple of times as well.
Or it could just mean they really like Calloway and are looking to add more weapons to the offense. His recruitment is expected to last until February so there is still time for things to get sorted out. He plays quarterback for his high school team so there’s maybe a chance he gets a look there as well. Either way, definitely a recruitment to watch over these final months.
The second came not long after Calloway’s announcement. Auburn might not be done landing JUCO offensive tackles.
I’m blessed and honored to receive another D1 offer from Auburn Football pic.twitter.com/xGtECOp0yl
— Jeremy Flax 6️⃣6️⃣ (@BiggFlax) December 2, 2019
3* OT Jeremy Flax just recently bumped Auburn commit Kilian Zierer from the top JUCO OT spot after a big year for Independence C.C. Auburn obviously already holds commitments from six offensive line prospects including three JUCOs so why in the world would they push after another?
Well, there’s also a very good chance we see some attrition amongst this current crop of offensive line commits. 4* OT Javion Cohen is very seriously flirting with Alabama and plans to take an official visit there this weekend. There are grade concerns with 3* OT Jonathan Buskey who no longer is expected to graduate in December and enroll in the spring. My guess is this offer is a move more directed at the latter development. Auburn will have to get him on campus soon if they want to make a move as he’s expected to make his decision later this month.
Finally, Auburn put out another JUCO offer but this time on the defensive side of the ball.
Blessed to receive an offer from Auburn Unversity @_CoachMartin_ @IndyFBHC @CoachDonerson @coachg76 @Coach_BSaunders @AuburnFootball pic.twitter.com/lbVIIHky2o
— DRE BUTLER (@DreButler23) December 3, 2019
Deandre Butler plays at the same JUCO as Flax so the Tigers apparently liked what they saw in Independence, KS. Ranked the #5 JUCO prospect in the country, Butler has an impressive list of offers but Auburn’s stands out. Butler told AuburnUndercover’s Keith Niebuhr he plans to take an official visit to the Plains this weekend. It’s been expected for much of this cycle that Auburn would take a JUCO prospect on the defensive line for some immediate depth next season. Interestingly Butler has three years of eligibility left so that likely makes him an even more attractive option in Auburn’s eyes.
