9 years ago today my sweet Mateo posted this pic of me and how I really felt about #cancer ...just before they rolled me back for my #mastectomy surgery, in which I became the #aerodynamic #running #bionicwoman I am today, 9 years and 2 less boobs later - cuz #fuckcancer #breastcancer #theytriedtokillmesoicutthemoff #breastcancerhumor It is still the perfect #pictureisworth1000words of how I feel about cancer. And why I will never "get over" it. Even though, God-willing, cancer is done with me. I am not done with it. Not when it keeps picking on my friends. Did you know that #everydamnday in the U.S. 800 women (and men) are newly diagnosed with breast cancer and 113 women (and men) die from #metastatic aka #stage4 breast cancer?! #wtf?! #amiright?! We may be aware, but we are most def not "there" yet. Not when my friends keep dying and I keep making new friends, sitting in the same kinda scrubs I was 9 years ago. And #mytruth is that 3 out of 10 women like me will experience recurrence and become metastatic or stage 4 and eventually one of the 113. Just another reason I will never "get over" my breast cancer. #sorrynotsorry but It's something that was/is/always will be #somethingigottagetoffmychest #somethingsgottagive #wecandobetter #moreresearch #stage4needsmore #dontignorestage4 I recommend @metavivor. 100% goes to #metastaticbreastcancer #research. The bottom line is, if we #cure metastatic or stage 4 breast cancer, which is the only kind that kills... we will cure ALL BREAST CANCER, cuz nobody will die from it anymore.
