My Cyberpunk self insert!!

Noting that my knowledge of the series is second hand, as I have not played 2077 nor the tabletop. My knowledge instead comes mostly from my best friend, the Edgerunners anime, and YouTube analyses of the series.

I tried to draw it in the style of a Studio Trigger reference sheet, with some additional information, such as the contents of its bag and a detailed rundown on its chrome - more information on that under the read more.

The items in its bag (which aren’t ripped from Cyberpunk 77) include:

A pair of retractable sewing scissors which deal chemical damage

A Cyberpunkified version of my stuffed cat, Pearl

A digital sketchpad, drawn with heavy reference to this ICE-breaker tablet

And its cyberwear serves the following functions:

AudioVox - Allows it to switch between a male and a female voice

Body Plating - Covers its upper torso, hands and legs for purely aesthetic reasons

Biomonitor - Almost everyone (with insurance) seems to have one of these

CyberOptics - Gives it its pink eyes and allows it to see without glasses

Doll Chip - To do Doll things

Dynalar NewTeeth && PowerJaw - Allow it to eat almost anything

Interface Plugs - Seems necessary for the chips and BD recorders? Though I might be wrong

2024 Manga Reading Summary

I already summarized my favorite completed and ongoing manga series from 2024, but I wanted to summarize my overall manga reading and give out some superlatives.

I read 603 volumes in total across 142 series, which works out to an average of 4.25 volumes per series. I focused a lot on shorter/newer series this year for the instant gratification. It gave me a lot of insight into my tastes and it was fun to try a bunch of different stuff.

I read 25 completed series, I am up-to-date with the most recent English release for 77 series, I am reading but not up-to-date on 1 series (Wind Breaker), and I started and dropped 39 series.

Superlatives below the cut:

The series that I read the most volumes of is Natsume's Book of Friends. Surprisingly, this series took a while to grow on me. I had seen some of the anime, and the manga seemed somewhat lackluster in comparison. It took me a bit to just meet it on it's own terms and not try to compare it to the anime. Once I did that I really liked it and there is something poetic and sweet about it.

The series that dragged on too long is Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! I definitely started out enjoying this manga, despite it's wacky premise. But after the leads got married I sharply lost interest and ended up dropping the series.

The series that I tried too hard to like is Blue Box. I had heard a lot of people rave about this series, and it is good, but I think it's just not for me. It does have beautiful art and the characters are very sweet, but it was a little slow and boring for me. I read 10 volumes of this one before dropping it.

The stupidest series was The Boy I Loved Became the Jaded Emperor. This series had a very silly/stupid premise depending on your perspective and never really grew beyond that. I just couldn't take the green frog-monster reincarnated into a beautiful young lady seriously. And the fact that they called each other Ham and Pie... Thankfully it was only two volumes.

The weirdest premise was going to be [Oshi No Ko], but in December I read Shadows House. The protagonist is a living doll who works as a maid for a girl who is from a family of living shadows. The shadows are only silhouettes, so the living dolls act as the 'faces' of the shadows. It's a very interesting, dark, and twisty series. I really love the sweet sincerity of the protagonist and the Machiavellian supporting cast and villains.

The series I'm not sure I'll continue is So What's Wrong with Getting Reborn as a Goblin? I wanted to give this one a shot since the goblins are cute, but I just can't wrap my mind around the goblins only having 7 day lifespans. And the weird horniness that crops up is definitely not my favorite. I like seeing how the protagonist comes up with ways to make the most of the goblins' skills, but I'm not sure it's enough to make me want to keep reading.

My favorite (female) protagonist is Mia from Tearmoon Empire. She's such a brat and she's so selfish and I love her for that. I love that everyone thinks she's a saint and meanwhile every decision she makes is self-serving in some way. It's such a breath of fresh air from some of the meek, long-suffering girls in manga.

My favorite (male) protagonist is Sakura from Wind Breaker. I'm still getting caught up on this series, but Sakura won me over immediately. I love a character who thinks they have no value finding community. He's got very high blorbo potential and I've been rotating him in my mind since I started this series.

My favorite romance is in Magic Artisan Dahlia Wilts No More. It's not even really a romance at this point in the story, but it just fills me with so much joy that the protagonist and the love interest genuinely seem to like each other and enjoy spending time together. It's such a rare thing to see, even outside of manga. It's just so fun to see them enjoy eating and drinking and doing experiments together, and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Huh it's interesting how nakamura (roppo ichiza leader) talks about the differences between them and furin. While roppo ichiza is a purely reactionary peacekeepijg gang, bofurin under umemiya is actually 'fixing the leak' so to speak, by giving delinquent kids a support system with morals and people you can trust, so they don't become trouble makers.

Sonic the Comic Liveblog Issue 77

Question for anybody from the uk old enough to remember this but was £1.20 a reasonable price for a comic in 1996? I recall Beano comics being just £1 circa 2007ish. Maybe the value comes from only having to pay for it fortnightly rather than weekly?

Okay, from the rest of this story I did not expect for there to be a panel that goes this hard.

I've gotten to the end of this issue, and I realised there's no game review section like the opening page said there would be. In fact, I don't think I've seen any reviews in a while. Is the site I'm reading on starting to cut them out? I hope not, they're a good indicator of what the video game scene was like at the time. In fact, this week's was apparently gonna be about the Toy Story Mega Drive game which I have fond memories of.

Still in Ohio. The Buckeye State. I’m thinking of heading South actually–the last time I was in the Midwest was…god, probably sixty? Sixty-one. I just remember a lot of flat. I haven’t hit that yet, but knowing it’s coming…yeah, anyway, I’ve been thinking about heading south. Cutting back over into…(rustling of paper), 77? And going down to West Virginia. I blew right past Akron without seeing a single sign of life, so I’m thinking maybe the big cities are out.

Jesus, not that Akron, Ohio is a big city. Maybe I should’ve gone up to Cleveland, I don’t know.  I guess I’m still a little skittish of anywhere that might have–

(sighing) Anyway, West Virginia seems like a place worth checking out. Harry mentioned this doomsday cult she’d heard about down there–granted, that was back in ‘66 or something that she heard those rumors but…what else do I have to go on, huh?

Man, if she could see me right now, she’d laugh and tell me ‘told you so’. Not even a week into this and I’m already going looking for a weird survivalist cult. Bet she’d love to have me go slinking back with my tail between my legs, giving up on any hope that there’s something worth looking for in this godforsaken country. 

But she’s not gonna get the satisfaction. I’m not going back, not for anything. It was safe, sure, but at what cost? Human beings aren’t meant to live in a cage, even ones of their own making. I mean it’s just—

Well, even a bunch of nuclear war freakouts would be better than being alone. 

I’ve been alone for so long now.

Harry would take issue with that, I think. Try to logic me into some kind of admission that because I wasn’t actually alone, I couldn’t claim being lonely. And maybe I wouldn’t’ve been if every conversation with her wasn’t exactly like that, where she would–

If I’m gonna head south I should probably figure out where the hell I can get on I-77. I’m working off a Rand McNally from 1963, but it’s not like they’ve done any public works since ‘68 so I’m counting on it being somewhat reliable. Pokemon fusions part 16

Alright! Finally into the current stuff! These first two are from last week!

76. Golduck/Noctowl: Golowl. It actually stands on its hind legs, but I wanted to draw it like this, so I did. It's flying/dark type because I said so.

77. Dusknoir/Blissy: Blissnoir. It's a ghost/normal type, and you'll probably learn pretty quickly that I really REALLY like that type combination

Now on to this week's stuff!

78. Mega Ampharos/G-max Corviknight: G-mega Corvaros. It's a steel/dragon type and it's abilities could include mirror armor, mold breaker, and unnerve!

79. Rapid-strike Urshifu/Heatran: Rapid-strike Urshiran! I like this better than the other Urshiran, but I still think it could be better. I also feel like the background isn't super great either but eh. Oh well! It's a fire/fighting type and it's abilities could be unseen fist, flash fire, or flame body
