The boring stuff/Deadlines: 1)  You have until (Sunday) October 20 at 1 AM EST to sign up. I’ll also be posting regular updates so follow bravelysanta at Twitter/Tumblr/Bluesky.

2) On the afternoon of October 20th, you will receive an email with the name of the person that you’ll be gifting via Sneaky Santa.

I will check-in a couple of times between mid-Nov and early-Dec. Please use these check-ins as opportunities to tell me if you need help!

3) Gifts are due anytime between December 22nd - 29th. If you will not be able to post it during that time, submit/msg me beforehand and I’ll post it for you.

4) If you think you may not meet the deadline, please contact me immediately and no later than December 21st. But please don’t sign up if you know your availability will be iffy in the first place.

5) If signing up as a pinch-hitter, those will be due by Jan 1st.

Guidelines:

1) If you must cancel your application, please notify me immediately either via email (fairyglowcharm @ gmail) or the bravelysanta accounts, preferably before assignments are chosen on Oct 22. If you find you cannot meet the gifting deadline and need an extension, please also notify me before Dec 21st. 

2) When filling out your name on the Sneaky Santa website, please include your social media handle (either Tumblr or Twitter/Bluesky), so your Santa knows how to @ you. Example - Koma (komatsujo). 

3) Remember that you are gifting a present to someone, and be prepared to spend at least some time on it. No one likes a last-minute gift!

4) Both fanart and fanfic are accepted as submissions. Santees, do not specifically request one or the other.

5) No AI generated art or fanfiction is allowed. The point of this is to create something for someone. Everyone of all talent levels is invited to join, to share the love of Bravely.

6) If you know there is a game, character, or ship that you don't wish to create content about, please indicate that in the last question of the form. I will do my best to exclude pairing you up with someone who is requesting a gift regarding those items, but please understand that I can't make promises if wishlists are not filled out.

7) Please try to complete your wishlists before Oct 20th for these reasons.

8) When creating your wishlists, please do not specifically request fanart or fanfic (example: do not request specifically fanart of the Crystal Crew as kids, instead of requesting something like “I would love to see the Crystal Crew as kids, doing something cute”). However, you should have more than 1 item on your wishlist. Please try to have 3-5 different items so your Santa has some freedom! 

9) Specifically requesting shippy gifts is allowed, but no NSFW material, either in wishlists or presents. This is mostly about smut, but also be mindful with gore and violence.  

10) Your wishlist and present MUST include Bravely themes or characters, such as Bravely Default 1 or 2, Bravely Second, Fairy’s Effect, Brilliant Lights, Praying Brage, etc. With the presence of Bravely characters in Octopath: COTC, Octopath characters + Bravely characters is allowed, though please be mindful of spoilers for the Octopath games. Same applies to other Team Asano games. 

11) Please try to keep your assignments private! Talk about them with friends in DM all you want, but if someone can find out that you’re their Santa on social media, that ruins the surprise!

8, 9, 20 for the new years ask game?

Thanks for the ask!! (From Fanfic Asks For The New Year) Uh. I'm putting this under the cut because tw: sui attempt for question 8

8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

Mmmm well I don't know if this counts or not because I haven't actually been sitting on this specific idea for a long time. But it's slightly angstier than what I normally feel comfortable writing (in that the beginning involves a failed suicide attempt on Adrien's part). I don't have a lot of the details worked out but long story short it's aged up, post-reveal and post-HM, and Adrien moved away (haven't 100% decided on where yet, but likely New York or Montreal). Nino's his emergency contact so he gets the call about Adrien being in the hospital. For some reason Nino can't get a plane ticket (weather or something I guess?), but Marinette happens to be on a work trip in the area, so Nino asks her to go check in. Only problem is...she and Adrien haven't spoken in years, and he's not exactly thrilled to see her at first. Still, she ends up staying in town and to help him get back on his feet so to speak. So yeah...this one starts really heavy but ends happily. I don't know if I'll actually get to it this year (or ever) because I have so many other projects and I'm trying not to start new ones at the moment. But...it's kind of calling to me. I just love angst with a happy ending too much akjsdfbsf 9. Short term goals… what do you hope to complete this week or in January? In the next few days (ie as soon as I have the time and energy) I need to finish my secret santa fic!! There are only two chapters left and they're not so long, so it should be doable! Then...I want to hopefully write something for DJWifi December even though it won't be December anymore. I had like 3 different ideas for that event but this month I just haven't had enough time lately 😭 For the rest of January I have no goals except trying to update Say Something and Ladrien roommates at least once. I'm trying not to push myself too hard because last year I got kind of burnt out from writing at some point and I don't want that to happen again.

20. Any plans to work on original fiction this year?

Not concretely, no. I have a handful of novel ideas I've had bouncing around for years but right now I'm happy working on my fics and letting those ideas ruminate a little longer haha. I feel like...2024 might be the year for that though. Just maybe.

I love so many things in Elucien fanfic! Whatever your vision is, then I want to read it. I think my favorite thing is when there is just a clear yearning between the two of them. When they can't help but look at each other. When they're so aware of the others presence. When they can't stop thinking about the other. They desire and long and the tension is palpable, building to that moment when their distance becomes not so far. When suddenly they aren't avoiding each other because something has shifted and now they can't stay away. I really like those vibes haha. I think as far as things I don't enjoy - similar to my answer yesterday - Elriel is a huge NOTP so I don't really like it when Azriel is elevated to more than just a past crush.

-how do you feel about happily ever afters? ⭐️

Adore them. It's all I want again and again and again.

-what is your favourite elucien moment in the books? 📚 or a specific moment of each individual character that you think highlights their personality!

Oh I can't choose just one. I love so many! I think about the half-step soooo much. Like, Lucien being so brave and following Elain's vision, and he doesn't see that Elain makes that move to go to him and stops herself. I think it explains so much about what is going on inside of Elain. It is a glimpse at what she is feeling for him. She is drawn to him. Her instincts are telling her to go to him. To be closer. That he is hers. But she continues to stop the inevitable. And I guess that is maybe representative of their personalities too. Lucien is brave and self-sacrificing. He will do anything to support Elain. But he also doubts his own worth and what he deserves when it comes to love. He can't see yet he's worth running after. And Elain is a romantic at heart. She is giving and nurturing and believes in true love. But she's not ready to run after it. So much has happened to her and she is insecure about taking a chance and failing.

-do you have a favourite flower? 💐 and do you like snow? ❄️

I love sooooo many flowers. My husband and son actually buy me flowers every week at the grocery store so we always have some fresh on our table. I would say I don't have one particular favorite, and really, I enjoy a variety the presentation of flowers together and what beauty there can be.

And I DO love snow lol. I lived in Massachusetts for 6 years and I miss it because where I live now it hardly ever snows.

2.Will you participate in any fandom exchanges or fic challenges, etc?

Yes, absolutely! I am currently signed up for a fix-it fic challenge that I'm working on, but that has to stay pretty hush-hush for now. But like, I am so excited to try and get more involved in the Alex Rider Fandom. There's so many different challenges that run and I'm psyched to get involved in as many as I can that are running this year. I started getting involved (quietly) in the AR fandom right around when Secret Santa signups started, but I couldn't quite trust my muse enough to go ahead and put my name in, and I was a little hesitant about doing so when I hadn't written anything for the fandom which felt a little unfair to my recipient.  But afterwards, I wished I had.  And I love participating in events in general!  So, yeah, basically as many as I can get my hands on that are running this year lol

5. Which WIP is first on your list to complete this year? Will you post a snippet?

WIP that's first on my list is for the aforementioned hush-hush challenge, assuming I can finish it in time.  But the next one is def the soulmate AU!  So, have a snippet from that

He should have been terrified. After all, he *knew* Yassen now. Down to the core of him, made of steel, forged and reforged in the fires of more tragedy and betray than any person should ever have to deal with. Yassen was all sharpness and jagged edges, the broken pieces of Yasha forged into a weapon. Dangerous. A killer. But at the very core of him had been an empty place. An aching one, where loyalty and love had curled up and waited, nearly withered away. A place Yassen had numbed himself to, deep inside his walls. It was this place he had tucked Alex into, their soulbond anchored in the very core of him, those formidable walls and sharp edges closing up around him. Yassen, Alex knew, would never hurt him. Would protect him, no matter the cost. There were many things about this situation to be afraid of, but Yassen wasn't one of them. A sense of awed, fond agreement crept across the bond, warm and sticky like syrup (like blood), and Alex knew Yassen had sensed his train of thought through the bond, new as it was.

8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

I mean, I don't know?  Like, I at least tend to try my ideas out so that I can get them out of my head a little bit.  Most of the ones I'm not sure will ever see the light of day are the ones that are just like, pure filth. And it's been a lot time since I wrote smut, so I'm out of practice. But maybe some of them!

I SWEAR I'LL CONTINUE THAT MULTICHAPTER ZHJGSCB so I guess chapter two is number one priority? Out of oneshots, the one about Yosuke helping Yu grasp being nonbinary. I've already got a pretty solid structure for that one, I'll only have to fill in the blanks (that's the hardest part)

And yeah sure I can post a snippet. From the multichapter; the oneshot is too much on the conceptual phase.

8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you've never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

I don't have a solid idea yet but I'd like to try my hand at shuada. I always go for friends to lovers, time to try something more complex. Yu and Adachi's dynamic, their relationship to each other and other people and their development, their parallels and differences... it's all really fascinating to me, and my brain is whirring even more after spending time on a shuada discord with other scholars (lmao). I'm just worried I won't be able to do them justice with my puny little brain;; I shouldn't compare myself to the best but what can u do

1. How many times would you guess you watched the first back to the future movie?

Very few, comparatively. I’d be surprised if it was more than five!

2. Did you get any sweet bttf merch? If so, what!

My dear friend @clara-is-brave got me the Time Travel Memories Tin for Christmas (which I’m so excited about)!

3. How many cans of Pepsi Free did you chug this year?

I had a ton of Diet Pepsi while I was working, but it was the caffeinated version. I can’t stand coffee, so I’d have that in the mornings. Call it a couple hundred cans. :/

4. What was a favorite bttf fanfic you read this year?

This is so hard! But I have to go with @bg-sparrow’s Time Circuits Series and @penny-anna’s little stuff (the sweet and the sour). In the first, BG has managed to create an OC who fits seamlessly into the BTTF universe and is the only non-Jennifer person I’ve managed to picture Marty with. In the second, Linda discovers the truth about Calvin Klein and that her history has been drastically altered. A wonderful piece about a character I’ve never centered a fic around!

5. A favorite bttf fanart you saw this year? (please give us a link, not a screencap/repost!)

I have to say my absolute favorite is a piece @daryfromthefuture did for me of one of my OCs for a Discord server Secret Santa. (Her name's Agatha Petersen, she's Marlene's wife, and she was rescued from an early demise in 1921! Her appearances thus far have been limited to McFly July—Chapters 20 and 27, and she was first mentioned in 18!

Dary also did this one of Marty and Jennifer on their wedding day, which I also prompted actually.

I also discovered this older one by @ursaspecter! It’s Marty, Doc, Jennifer, and Clara in the 90s!

6. Did you create any bttf fanart or fanfic? If you did, what one(s) are you proudest of?

I’ve posted seven fics to AO3 this year, and I have a few that are in progress but not posted! It’s hard to pick which one I’m proudest of, but I’d say my royalty AU A Royal Doctober (presently in progress), the fourth part in my post-movie series The Summer of '89, and my multimedia piece r/ThePinheads: Guys, Marty McFLy really *is* a time traveller!!! That one is a fake subreddit page!

7. How many times were you late for school this year?

Unbelievably—given that I graduated college eleven years ago—once or twice. (I was taking a zoom class.)

8. Did you watch any other movies/tv shows with BTTF actors in them?

I don’t think so. I saw Christopher Lloyd in NCIS, but that was like three years ago. (I watched that episode with my dad on a lark, and I really enjoyed it.)

9. Was there a memorable moment you heard a Huey Lewis song this year?

On my way to work in the morning I heard “The Power of Love” and completely rocked out.

10. How many times did you fall down this year?

Not sure. Maybe once or twice.

11. Did you get to see BTTF: The Musical? What was your experience like!

No. *cries*

12. How many times did your mom retell the story of how she and your father met?

Can’t have been more than once or twice. (Not only have they not been together since I was an infant, he died when I was 15. I still know the story—they met through mutual friends in high school, then fell out of touch for like fifteen years before having a whirlwind romance during which I came along.)

13. If you could describe your year in a BTTF quote, which one would it be?

This was actually the hardest one! Honestly, not to be too negative, but I feel like “What in the name of Sir Isaac H. Newton happened here?” It’s been unrelenting shit, but there’s been some good stuff too. I’ve written more than I have in years, which is a really good thing! For that, you can also say, “If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything!”

15. Your future is whatever you make it! So what are you going to make of this coming year?

I honestly don’t know. I’m in an awkward place to say the least. I’m turning 35 tomorrow, and my life isn’t at all what I’d hope it’d be at that age. I have no girlfriend, no job, and very little hope. My mom has cancer. So I have a huge sinking feeling about the whole year.

If there’s a cause for hope, it’s that zoom class I mentioned. I know am certified as what’s called a full-stack web developer, which means I can build websites. I’m hoping that’s gonna get me a decent job. But ngl, things are really scary right now.

I don’t want to end on a negative note, though, so I’m gonna say—I’m gonna get a good job, my mom’s gonna heal, and I’m gonna start and complete fanfics and maybe even original writing! For the latter, my record this year actually proves that I can!

I wasn't tagged but I got this from @adriannasharp and want to participate! My 5 favorite fics I've written in no particular order:

Captive Princess Prince Endymion/Princess Serenity. This one is my baby, my first ever fanfic. I was so out of practice with writing, and I had never written smut before, so this took 3 months to finish. And I was TERRIFIED to publish it because it caters to my own kinks that I had never told anyone. But this is the fic that led me to the Moonlight Legends Discord and all the friends I have in the fandom now, so I'm really proud of myself for writing it and being brave enough to publish it. She's heavy on the bondage with a surprise ending 😘

The Shepherd and the Moon This is my current WIP and first multi chap. A retelling of Sailor Moon R in which Mamoru's memories never returned, and 5 years later the Black Moon Clan are relentlessly attacking Earth and the Senshi. It's an angsty, cute, falling-in-love story, with lots of sex and danger and sexy danger in the future.

What's Under the Ugly Christmas Sweater Another smutty UsaMamo one shot. I wrote this for the ML discord Secret Santa, and I'm really happy with how it turned out, considering I wrote it on a time crunch. This seems to be the fic of mine that people come back to, and I love that. I'm really proud of the banter between Usagi and Mamoru (it's pre-reveal), the Tuxedo Mask Christmas Sweater, the characterization, and I think it's some of my best smut.

Love Me in Chains A MinaKunz smutty one shot. This is one of my very favorites and is the least loved of all my fics lol. Minako and Kunzite roleplay Mina's kidnapping fantasy 🖤 I know this fic would get more attention if it was UsaMamo, but it's so similar to Captive Princess, and I really like MinaKunz in these roles.

A Little Fall of Rain Usagi/Dark Endymion. It was hard to pick a final one, but I'm going to have to go with this one. It's the darkest piece I've written, and one of the darkest I've seen in this fandom. Endymion abducts Sailor Moon and tortures her for the whereabouts of the Silver Crystal. I'm really proud of myself for GOING THERE and following my instincts when it came to this fic. There's physical and sexual torture, as well as deep emotion and connection. I regret nothing. Mind the tags with this one!

Okay, back in May @isolatedphenomenon asked me if I had an les mis fic recs and I went "oh boy do I !" and then promptly fucked off and disappeared from tumblr for like 6 months...

Anyway on the off chance people are interested, here is my vastly too long list of  my favourite les mis fanfic (that I'm almost 100% sure I'll have accidentally missed some of my favourites off of...)

The vast majority of these are main pairing Enjolras/Grantaire, so I've put those first, divided into multi-chaptered and then one-shots. Below that will be other pairings!

Multi-chaptered

• Witch Boy Series : magic AU, starting with Grantaire solving Enjolras' curse - this is just Incredible world building which gets better as it goes on - my favourite is the Babet interlude

• World Ain't Ready : you know how fandoms tend to have a fic that is just associated with it ? in my experience, for les mis this is it - and well deserved ! High school, fake dating AU with some of the most engaging writing

• BE : Enjolras is dragged back into theatre production, helping Eponine put on a production of Hamlet - really love the characterisation in this, and this is really one of those modern AUs that actually feels like real life - really good writing

• After the End : the definitive apocalypse AU in my eyes - les amis are an underground resistance to the dystopian government - really wonderful characterisation of Grantaire and the amis

• You never have to wonder; you never have to ask. : I tend to find fic by scrolling through bookmarks of a pairing, which means I often see repeats; this is a fic that if I see I just re-read cause I know I'll enjoy it - the amis sparked a failed rebellion, and now 18 months later Grantaire ends up staying at Enjolras' after returning to Paris for Marius and Cosette's wedding

• Your Heart on Your Skin : Soulmate AU with flower tattoos marking important emotions and events - wonderful concept and world building 

• Impatient to Be Free : Daughters of Bilitis AU - if that doesn't make you excited I don't know what else to say to convince you (aside from saying the author is a simply wonderful writer)

• You Dance Dreams : Okay. Not to be over dramatic, but this fic did genuinely qualitatively change my life, in that it was the first thing that got me looking up contemporary ballet and now that's like one of my favourite things and big hobby So. Also its really great writing; music/creative arts school les amis with Grantaire choreohraphing the ballet for Combeferre's opera, with a heavy emphasis on Grantaire realising he really never actually got over Enjolras

• philia : this one is an absolute classic to me, but not given nearly enough recognition - one of the more realistic college AUs ever written, and the writing of Grantaire is so good because it hits the perfect balance of sympathy and annoyance about his behaviour (that's a genuine compliment) 

• Coffee Hooligans : fucking tragedy this never got properly finished, Enjolras leads the amis as social justice vigilantes and tries to hide the criminal bits of his life from R

• Fighting the Hurricane : Pacific Rim AU that's less an AU and more just placing the les mis characters in the Pacific Rim universe. Really good and riveting read, also super interesting depiction of Grantaire

• Weaving Olden Dances : Fairy AU - Grantaire "claims" Enjolras to prevent his execution - really good writing, love Grantaires characterisation 

• Paris Burning : canon era (sort of) where cities have a physical being - Grantaire is Paris and becomes entangled in Enjolras' revolution - oh the world building is truly *chefs kiss*

• Euphoria is You For Me : Enjolras and Grantaire keep meet cuting in a wonderfully written Brooklyn - feels like a love letter to Brooklyn at times, and I really like the characterisation of Grantaire 

• so please just fall in love with me this christmas : Enjolras works for the environmental company Grantaire volunteers at, and keeps getting secret gifts at Christmas - I sound a little like a broken record but the Grantaire characterisation is very good

• You Are the Moon : Wild West esque Space AU - Grantaire has to call on the amis to help rescue Valjean and Cosette, despite Grantaire leaving the amis 6 months before. On re-reading the Enjolras characterisation feels a little rushed, but overall fantastic story telling and the Grantaire arc is a Delight 

• Pandemos : Enjolras is aphrodite, and seeks peace from all his suitors in R/Hephestus' cave

• Pining for You : Hallmark christmas romance - Grantaire returns home to work on his father's tree farm, and Enjolras is the lawyer helping prevent the farm being sold - cute as shit imo

• Once We're Kings : Fantasy AU - a country hosts a ball to marry Prince Enjolras and the rival country sends Grantaire as a fuck you - one of the best ways of doing Enjolras as a prince in a fantasy and just really nicely written

• Never Bitter and All Delicious : Fairy Godmother AU - yes really, yes its genuinely a very good read

• On One Condition : Fantasy AU - Enjolras is a bored knight who finally goes to check out the local dragon, which turns out to be Grantaire - I really like how they capture Enjolras' stubborn nature and it's such a well written soft growth of love between them

• That's How Easy Love Can Be : Les Amis work at a primary school; and its secret santa time! very fun portrayal of Enjolras

• The Lark and Her Lieutenants : re write of canon where Cosette is the leader of the revolution - just *chefs kiss*

• If You Tickle Us, Do We Not Laugh : Grantaire is Enjolras' secret android - really good at writing a relationship that's incredibly loving but just keeps being antagonistic and coming off wrong 

One Shots

• True Colours : AU where you leave colours on the people important to you - Enjolras and Grantaire falling for each other is so soft and gently written its lovely, this is genuinely one of my favourites

• Keep It Kind, Keep It Good, Keep It Right : this one is so good to me, because it builds off my pet hatred of everyone assuming Enjolras doesn't care about (or at least actively show he cares about) his friends

• blooming : very soft post-dystopian utopia that has just a really wonderful sense of hope and light to me

• and the wall leaned away (or: The Pros and Cons of Tilling) : perfectly realised characterizations of the amis, Grantaire needs a date to her final year art exhibition - deals with anxiety over protest in a way that actually hits for me

• not just one of the crowd : R helps run a leftist bakery and bike repair shop - very cute characterisation, and I think more les mis fanfic should link to anarchist essays

• Lovesickness : Enjolras is an idiot and thinks he's sick rather than having a crush - the writing of Joly and Combeferre in this is some of my favourite depictions of these two

• If there's a rocket, tie me to it : absolutely heartbreaking sci-fi AU about the amis as doomed mecha pilots

• Where I Fall is Where I Land : Enjolras is a Roman commander as Rome's power is leaving England, and then meets the pict Grantaire (+ fun soulmark stuff !)

• You Started Foreign to Me : Enjolras moves to america and R is the overnight grocery clerk who helps her learn Spanish - cute fluffy lesbians with a wonderfully written driven Enjolras

• Love Is Touching Souls : very cute soulmate AU - and one I really love for really truly considering the implications of soul marks and creating historical lore around it

• Ten Years : R is a musician, and it non-linearly charts his relationship to Enj from high school to 10 years later

• put up with me then I'll make you see : Grantaire lives above Enjolras, and its christmas - I find it to have a very fun interpretation of pining Enjolras

• A Cat Called Trash Can : this was one of the first les mis fics I ever read (yes I know it says it was published in 2020, but I think it has to be a re-upload or something?) and it does still have a special place in my heart - Grantaire rescues a cat, but Enjolras is the only one with an apartment free to look after it 

• Still I'm Begging to Be Free : inception AU where les amis have to rescue a sleeping R from his own brain

•I'm in it for You : cw: illness, cancer - R has cancer and is being a martyr about telling his friends so Enjolras drives him back from chemo

• walls come tumbling down : sky high au - a very good high school AU with the perfect level of campy superhero powers

• This brave new world's not like yesterday : Enjolras needs a job, so ends up working in a bowling alley with Grantaire and bonding

Enjolras/Grantaire/Combeferre

• In Defiance of All Geometry : les amis are a student co-op house, Enjolras and Combeferre are pining friends and Grantaire is the newbie

• Still the Same : this is very good writing and very compelling - if you can get over the (imo) plot hole of Enjolras working for the FBI. R was an art thief Enj put away and is briefly helping the FBI out, and Combeferre is Enjolras' husband

• To Kingdom Come : cw: war and PTSD from that, Enjolras and Combeferre are part of a group of refugees that have crossed into a more fantasy land, and Grantaire is a lone traveller from that land that attempts to help - that was a shit summary of this very emotional, wonderfully written fic about war and love in all forms

• Gonna need (a spark to ignite) : I always love a twist on a classic trope, and this is a very fun take on the soulmate AU - Enjolras loses feeling in his soul mark as a child, falls in love with Grantaire and then his soulmate, Combeferre, turns up

Eponine/Cosette

• Pretty Girls Don't Know the Things That I Know : simply stunning writing - perfect example of soft writing about a harsh world

• she knows her way around : Eponine and Cosette bond, ostensibly so Eponine can find out about her for Marius, and their interactions are so playful and realistic, its wonderful

• always find me floating on oceans : Cosette stows away on Eponine's pirate ship - I do always have a soft spot for eposette fics (not just cause I ship it) because they truly characterise Cosette in a really considered and interesting way

• There's No Making Love : I'm putting this under eposette even though there is some significant enjolras/grantaire content, because the Cosette characterisation is so fun and cute

• round and round again : this fic really beautifully translates Cosette's bad childhood and then isolated teenage years, and the impact that would have on her as an adult into a modern AU

• Underwater Thunderheards : this is based off the book The Scorpio Races, and is just a really nice short fic  about longing

• How To Change The World Without Taking Power : Marius has a crush on Cosette and she's tried being polite and subtle in turning him down, so just ends up fake dating Eponine instead

• blood red fruit and poison's kiss : Snow White AU - Cosette as Snow White

• The Winters Cannot Fade Her : Snow White Au 2.0 - Eponine as Snow White - this was written as a pair to the one above which is just so cute to me

• marriage à la mode : Cosette and Eponine run a bridal shop together and it's very cute !

• Temporary Hold : I personally find this a really fun and very unique take on Cosette - with exams coming up she decides she needs to get laid on the reg and so hits up Eponine to act as if they're already long term girlfriends

Combeferre/Courfeyrac

• better than you had it : fake dating but kick it up an emotional notch - Courf and Ferre pretend to still be together after breaking up for a family event

• take flight, come near : nice and cute low fantasy, where Combeferre runs a dragon sanctuary and Courf finds an injured dragon

Rare Pairs

• The Future's Owned by You and Me : cute Enjolras/Feuilly with actual radical politics and real life organising difficulties and wins

• First Dates and Other Dangers : Combeferre and Grantaire agree to go on a blind date and it's awkward until it isn't - just cute !

• after midnight : Combeferre has insomnia and meets Grantaire in various all night fast food chains

• as you are : Bahorel and Jehan getting ready together

• Almost Romantic : Jehan works at a museum, and takes Combeferre on a little tour

• Understudy : Jehan/Combeferre, with Combeferre's insecurities regarding being seen as second best to Enjolras

• Here There Be Dragons : Courf/Enj/Ferre - Courf and Enj are superheroes and Ferre is the doctor that patches them up

• To Let it Occur (Laisser Faire la Nature) : Feuilly has a stupidly long stopover in Paris and meets Enjolras

• rule of three : Courf/Enj/Ferre as spies and loving boyfriends

• Good Rhetoric : snapshots of cute cuddly courf/enj/ferre

CS Secret Santa Gift

Hi there @ouatpost! I’m your Secret Santa for this year! As promised, I wrote a fanfic about Captain Swan. I hope you like it!

He entered the castle grounds under the cover of night, wearing a dark cloak to hide his identity. The winter solstice ball was in full swing and the revelry could be heard from a mile away. Lively music and the fresh scent of food was beckoning like a lighthouse on a stormy sea. Large pine trees decorated with colorful dazzling lights and bright wreaths celebrated the new season. A light dusting of snow was scattered across the grounds and as night fell, a chill spread through the air. 

However, the pirate wasn’t there for the party.

His princess had given him direct instructions on avoiding the guards near her window. It was their horrible luck that she lived in the highest room at the tallest tower. With an exhausted sigh, he began to climb, digging his hook into the grooves of the castle wall. A few times, he nearly slipped and tumbled down to the ground below, but he always managed to reorient himself. Beads of sweat covered his forehead and his breathing grew labored the longer he climbed. After nearly half an hour, he reached the window of her room.

Thankfully, she was alone tonight. She already knew he was coming and dismissed all the servants. Killian forced himself to catch his breath when he caught a glimpse of his love. Her blonde hair was braided down her back and decorated with gorgeous gems and holly leaves. A light blue dress adorned with swan feathers and dazzling pearls cascading down her shoulders. The delicate tiara gifted during her 21st birthday sat atop her forehead. 

Princess Emma would have been the pinnacle of beauty and grace, but her annoyed expression ruined the entire image.

He chuckled as he gently knocked on the window, praying she wouldn’t be terrified. She tore her gaze away from the vanity and stood up with a gasp of surprise. Emma hastily walked across the room and opened the window, sending a gust of snowy wind billowing across her room.

“I didn’t think you’d come!” she said excitedly, grabbing his arm and helping him into her room. “It’s so cold and freezing - ”

“Neither blizzard nor rain could keep me from you, love,” he replied, pulling her into a tight embrace. 

She rolled her eyes and muttered something under her breath, but he laughed in response. He loved seeing her blush when he made sweeping declarations of her love.

“Do your parents suspect anything?” he asked softly.

She shook her head and wrinkled her nose, “No, but there’s supposed to be a ton of suitors downstairs tonight. Ugh, I can’t stand all the stupid comments…”

Her voice trailed off in disgust as she pulled away from his grasp and stalked over to her vanity. She grabbed two pearl earrings and hastily pulled them onto her ears. Emma also began pulling a hairbrush through her golden locks, even though it was already sleek and shiny. The sounds of chatter and merriment grew more boisterous in their uncomfortable silence.

“Do you want to run away?” she blurted out.

He jolted as if she had given him an electric shock. “Love, please tell me you’re not - inebriated already.”

She laughed and grabbed his arms, staring into his sea blue eyes. “No, of course not. But you can’t tell me that you haven’t thought about it before.”

It was his turn to blush now. The pirate turned around and pretended to stare at a painting on the wall. The prospect of elopement was absolutely exhilarating like a powerful intoxicant. All these clandestine meetings were torturous on his old soul. Nobody had repaired his heart in over three hundred years like this princess had. Her brave spirit and sweet joy was an antidote to his years of loneliness and grief.

“Killian?” she asked softly, putting a hand on his shoulder and drawing him back to the present.

“Hmm?” he asked.

“Well - uh, did you ever think about it?” she repeated.

He struggled to word his thoughts correctly. “Love, I - I can’t take you away from your family. And you shouldn’t feel obligated to leave for me. Your destiny is to marry - ”

“Marry who?” she asked sharply. “Some stupid prince who doesn’t even know me? Just to make alliances? It’s ridiculous.”

“That’s - no, I can’t take you from the castle - ”

“It’s not taking me away if I choose to leave,” she replied with a wink. “Meet me at the tree tonight at midnight.”

He frowned, “The big one near the castle entrance? Swarming with guards?”

“Nope, that one we - you know,” she muttered, blushing red at the very memory. “Did it the first time.”

Killain grinned and nodded, wondering the exact details of her plan. He trusted her with his very life, so he knew he could put faith in her this time. 

“Now, leave,” she said sharply. “My mom will be here any minute.”

“As you wish,” he whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her soft hand. “Until tonight then, my love.”

The climb down was excruciating, but he persisted at the very thought of seeing her again that evening. He decided to head over there, since it was only a few hours until midnight. The winter bells in the village ran loudly as he walked through the crowds, celebrating the new season. When he reached their rendezvous point, she was already waiting for him. He raised his eyebrows in amazement as she held out a gift box to him.

“Merry Christmas, Killian,” she whispered. 

He opened the box to reveal a hand knitted scarf and gloves that she had made for the colder weather. Upon seeing his confused face, she laughed.

“You’re always wearing that old leather thing. I just - I thought you may not be warm enough sometimes, you know?” she teased.

“It’s wonderful, I love it, dearest,” he whispered, pulling her in for a hug. 

In her embrace, the two kissed for several minutes. When she finally pulled away, she grabbed his hand and led him further into the woods. 

“Where are we going?” he asked.

“Just a little cottage for the night,” she explained. “I found it while horseback riding the other day. I wanted to - to be with you tonight.”

In the crisp, cold weather, they left footprints etched in the wet, falling snow. But at that moment, he never wanted to be with anyone else ever again. And perhaps someday, they could run away together. To a place where rank didn’t matter and they could just be themselves.

i write a lot of fic for a rarepair virtually only i ship. i max out at 3-5 kudos if i'm lucky, and it's very rare that i get comments-- less than one a month, more if i'm writing gen or more popular chars. i changed the visibility on all my works due to people sharing my stuff around to mock it... i really appreciate the few interactions i do get on ao3, fandom's isolating otherwise & the majority of the harassment i get is on discord&tumblr. is there a way to adapt these tools to my situation?

First of, I’m sorry you’re dealing with harassment and people making fun of your work 😢 That’s not ok and I think you’re very brave for continuing to put yourself and your work out out there.

About some ways to adapt the tools at hand to your situation, the few suggestions that I have for you are:

On ao3:

If you are being harassed on ao3, that is violation of the Archive’s Terms of Service and you can report it. Harassment is, unfortunately, a common enough phenomenon on ao3 that they have an FAQ about it, and they have provided a guideline of what to do in the situation, the first of which is to refer to the Archive’s Terms of Service. 

Turn on comment moderation. Unfortunately, this won’t prevent you from seeing the comments themselves, but it at least prevents comments that you don’t want on your work from being posted without your approval.

If it is a problem, you can also disable anonymous comments on your work. Again, it’s not a perfect solution, but hopefully it increases the barriers for unwanted attention.

On tumblr and discord:

Block them. Curate your fandom experience and put your own mental health first.

I’m sorry you’ve had a tough time with fandom, and you may have done this already, but if it’s possible, here are maybe some ways you can find fellow fans who will share your love for your ship:

Look up fics with that same tag. I know you mentioned it being a rarepair, but even if you find a story that has that ship as a sideship or one of many, chances are that the authors shares your love for that ship to some degree. So, comment and let them know! You never know, they may be thirsting to have a conversation about said ship :)

Reply to your commenters. (Obviously only attains to the normal, non-harassing comments on your work) If you don’t already, I would encourage you to respond to the users who leave a comment on your work. You may be able to strike up a conversation with them and make fandom friends that way.

Join events, especially rarepair events. Hopefully your fandom has bangs, reverse bangs, secret santas, gift exchanges, and other events that are free to join and enjoyed by all. Joining an event that is specifically made for rareships would be great as even though it’s not specifically for your ship, there’s probably at least one other person who is also writing for a rareship and understand where you’re coming from.

Talk to multi-shippers. Even if they’re not a self-declared fan of your ship, what you’re really looking for is people with ship-and-let-ship views on fandom. Anyone who laughs at you and mocks you for loving a rarepair and expressing it through writing fanfic is not worth your time or emotional energy. Cut them out and move on. There’s someone who will support you and your ship out there. Keep sailng.

December seems to have lasted the blink of an eye and Alec's shoulders hunch as he realizes morosely that most of this year is a blur of emergencies and rounds and consultations.

His gaze snags on a bakery display as he walks past. The window is dressed with multicolored lights and garland wrapping around the edges. The display case is full and Alec’s mouth waters just at the sight.

Without conscious thought, Alec is reaching for the door to Bane's Bakery, eager to see if the interior is just as whimsical and welcoming as the outside.

C, H & M?

C: What character do you identify with most?

The fictional character who I'm most like is Cath from Rainbow Rowell's book Fangirl, another socially anxious fanfic writing person, but for fandoms I actually write for, probably bossy, organized, big book lover Hermione Granger. However, I generally super don't identify with or see myself in most characters - even those I love, even those I write for! - because they tend to make brave choices which progress the story while I would simply decide I was taking to my bed.

H: How would you describe your style?

"Not enough sensory or physical description, somewhat overwrought in tone, and takes evident linguistic inspiration from Markus Zusak, but I like it."

M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?

I'm currently focusing on a couple Steggy Secret Santa ideas, trying to figure out which one is going to work out better, but other than that, I finished the actual writing of Here's All the Melting Thrill last night, so my mind is turning over what my next Outlander fic is going to be. Currently the two frontrunners are an S1 canon retelling with a timeshift of either 6 months or a year (trust me, it changes a lot) or an AU vaguely inspired by Jojo Moyes's The Giver of Stars. (Yes, I know, I sound like a madwoman...)
