Miami Heat fans learned the hard way on Wednesday night that you can’t trust anyone in this cruel world.
The Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers and Chicago Bulls all battled for two playoff spots on the regular season’s final day. The problem for the Heat, however, is that they needed some help to get in.
Heat fans needed to see their team beat the Washington Wizards and get a little help from either the Atlanta Hawks—playing the Pacers—or the Brooklyn Nets—who took on the Bulls.
The Nets are the worst team in the league and rested Brook Lopez and Jeremy Lin, so they were the least likely team to pull off their upset. That meant Heat fans put their hopes on Atlanta, who also decided to rest their stars and rile up Miami fans on Twitter.
The Hawks Twitter account certainly took notice.
Heat fans so mad in our mentions rn
— Atlanta Hawks (@ATLHawks) April 13, 2017
Each tweet sent out by the account was flooded with Heat fans begging the team to get their collective act together at beat the Pacers. Problem is, the social media manager isn’t coaching OR playing on the court. There were some good tweets, though.
@ATLHawks PLS HELP US http://pic.twitter.com/XcAhompSOM

The Crying Jordan section of the Twitter mentions was particularly strong on this night.
Miami heat fans really want the @ATLHawks to win tonight so they can get into the playoffs!
— Devante Walker (@DevanteWalker3) April 13, 2017
This seems like a good deal to me!
@ATLHawks Win and we'll give you Josh McRoberts. Lose and we'll give you Josh McRoberts.

Movie references are always a good pick, too.

Of course, someone had to bring up a bit of old history with another Atlanta sports team.

I found this one pretty funny because, as always, a self-own is always the safest option.

Some did play the “I’m not mad, I actually find this funny” game, to little success.
@ATLHawks who's really mad tho lol @MiamiHEAT ..Get you some http://pic.twitter.com/2nU7gNOVvm
— Doug (@deeburna) April 13, 2017
Fans continued to snipe back and forth as the Pacers lead grew and the game slipped away. The Hawks account, however, couldn’t help but keep poking the bear.
UPDATE: Still true. https://t.co/styVJuKwIj
— Atlanta Hawks (@ATLHawks) April 13, 2017
Despite Atlanta showing they could pull off impressive comebacks, the big push back never came on Wednesday night. They went quietly, and the Pacers headed to the postseason.
@ATLHawks RIP MAD HEAT FANS
— Michael
Meanwhile, over on Nets Twitter, things were a bit more placid.
Not mad at the @ATLHawks. They have something to rest for. You @BrooklynNets are scum. No, you're worse than scum. You're toe scum #hateyou
— Mike Ryan Ruiz (@MichaelRyanRuiz) April 13, 2017
Brooklyn trailed throughout and lost in a blowout. Despite beating Washington, Miami failed to make the playoffs. Good help is tough to come by these days.

I see these guys seldomly. Love hearing what they do. Being a music student, it makes me appreciate the relationship between Trombone and Trumpet. They're like Shaq and Kobe back in the day. #BrassJazz
