Brass plating is seriously satisfying. The one and only part of my armor build where it doesn't sound like I'm taking down the whole house. Well....guys. the posts for the next month will be me dissecting my armor and turning them all into brass hahahahhaa. Woohooo Brass Firekeeper helmet is turning out nicely! Here are the steps on how we got here---- 1) base plastic 2) hot glue for detailing 3) Matte Black Trimclad for base coat 4) Gold and silver paint 5) pin everything with Brass paper fastener 6) leather snap pins for the rest--- Time to make the rest of this helmet and we are close to finishing!!! Brass Firekeeper progress!! Thank you all who are curious about our choice of material!!!! We often use different plastics from multiple container (flower pot, yogurt cup, water bottles, etc) to build our cosplay. We use the softer ones as the top delicate layers where as the harder/ stiffer stuff can be used for more structural work. In case if you dont have access to a dremel, or just doesnt want to make a mess... A small Olfa knife will do just fine! To avoid over sanding or digging, i find this method to work much better on thinner 5mm foam. CANT RAISE YOUR ARM?! THEN HOW CAN YOU PRAISE THE DARK MOON?! Its always been a constant battle for fantasy cosplayer to have FUNCTIONAL PAULDRON! Historical armor even as early as a brigadine to late medieval full plate armor has a series of leather and strap work that connect to the top shoulder rim of their chest plate to the top edge of the pauldron. The pauldrons are then strapped to the bicept with either string or full leather straps. LET YOUR ARMS FREE MY FRIENDS! People guessed: Pockets?! Pee hole?! Place to put your wallet?! BRASS SET FIREKEEPER IS SO COMFY---- I can flex my arms all the way backward. Even the back plates slides and collapse into each other! One of the biggest challenge that we have is to actually find a way to get in and out of the chest plate. Its like game developer expects human to magically morph into their metal tin case they call a chestplate. BUT WE WILL ALWAYS FIND A WAY! Luckly, the brass set had a few seams that we can fudge in a removeable part. COMFY LEGGING INCOMING--- Just whipped up the frame of our Brass Set leg harness Would you guys want to see a side by side compariation of real plate armor vs our cosplay armor?? Only recently that i find out that not all full plate leg protection has back plate!! Many dueling armor shows that the leg harness covers the front, and some of the sides only. Whats even more interesting is that knights (14-16 century) only worn thin wool pants under!( sometimes with patches of chainmail known as voiders) Thank god that cosplays are so light and comfy! In case if you wanna know how to reuse your shoes and not having to worry about making a shoe cover :) Since the 14th century, steel sabaton were 'pointed' (laced) at the back and the front of the leather turnshoe. Most video games doesn't really shoe that since..well...shoelace aren't all that attractive. So we went with a more later century approach where a piece of leather is used to create a snug fit at the toe of the shoe, and an emergency bail out strap for the back. It works amazingly well for our Lothric Knight and Nazgul ò w ó ONWARD WITH THE LEG HARNESS!!
