Best Sports Bike You Can Buy
Harley-Davidson FXDR 114
The entry price certainly isn’t cheap. Then again, all-new Harley-Davidson power cruisers don’t come along very often.
Just look at this thing—it has to be one of the toughest-looking new bikes on the market. The FXDR is unique among big Harleys because it’s actually been designed to handle tight corners and switchbacks. Traditional Harleys are known for torque, style, and an easy cruising attitude, but the bikes tend to lack the clearance, suspension, and tires needed for aggressive riding. The Softail-based FXDR 114 changes all that with impressive lean angles, a 43mm inverted fork, and a forward riding position more like a naked standard bike. The 114-cid V-twin is a monster that doles out a solid 119 lb-ft of torque. Good thing there’s a massive 240mm rear tire putting the power down.
Indian FTR 1200
Indian has scored remarkable successes since the brand’s relaunch in 2013, progress that was built on the back of traditional cruisers with classic riding dynamics. In other words, not the kinds of bikes you’d choose to chase a Ducati into the canyons. But for 2019, Indian finally has a sportier offering, and it’s a stunner.
Based on the company’s off-road FTR750 dirt track racer, the FTR 1200 uses a 1203-cc twin delivering around 120 hp, which is plenty for the bike’s sub-500-lb dry weight. Thanks to a big 43mm inverted front fork, an adjustable monoshock rear suspension, and big Brembo brakes, the FTR 1200 should be a worthy adversary for quite a number of naked sporty bikes.
It’s cool to see Indian taking a big risk to build such a radically different bike for them—and pulling it off big time.
Kawasaki Z900RS
The great thing about today’s retro bikes is that they only look retro—the technology inside is fully 2018. The Z900RS, which looks like a fresh take on the classic Z1, is based around the Z900, a contemporary Japanese sport bike. The 948-cc inline four-cylinder is a torquey beast, so the RS would be at home on just about any road. That big thickly padded seat is comfy and sits 32.8 inches off the ground. Similarly, the bike’s ergonomics create a very natural riding position.
This is the kind of bike that can do it all: run canyons hard on the weekend, commute daily to work, or take a quick ride to the grocery store. About that last one: The Z900RS has handy tie-down attachment points to make sure that 12-pack stays with you all the way home. And for those that want a bit more style, there’s a café version with a tiny fairing up front that runs $11,499.
BMW G310GS
BMW knows how to make a proper adventure bike. The company has been building its off-road-worthy dual sport bikes since the early 1980s. It invented the segment, and today’s BMW bikes define it. So who better than BMW to build an affordable adventure machine?
The new GS is based upon BMW’s G310R road bike and shares that model’s single-cylinder engine. This bike gets its off-road chops from its taller, long travel (7.1-inch front fork) suspension and 19-inch front wheel and tire. But even with a high rider suspension, the BMW’s reasonably low 32.9-inch seat height will keep it appealing for riders of smaller stature. For those that want an even lower ride, BMW offers an even lower 32.3-inch seat. And because it’s a BMW, ABS is standard.
2019 Honda Monkey
If there was a prize for “affordable retro radness” this year, it would most certainly go to Honda’s new Monkey.
Classic minibikes from the late ’60s and early ’70s have had a quiet renaissance over the past few years, so Honda thought, Why not bring back an update of the company’s original Z50 “monkey bike”? This new one is based on the bones of Honda’s popular tiny tyke Grom sport bike and uses a 125-cc engine backed by a four-speed transmission.
At just 231 lbs and using tiny 12-inch wheels, the little Monkey is as light as it is nimble. It’s pure fun to ride and to look at thanks to authentic retro touches like that big puffy padded seat. The Monkey could be the perfect, old-school urban runabout for those that think today’s electric shared scooters are for the birds.

My dad bought his 1972 Kawasaki Z900 brand new. Only 6 years and change later he had me in a backpack riding with him. The elderly ladies in town would scold him telling him I was going to get hurt. Picture 2 is when I out grew the backpack and stepped up to a car seat strapped to the sissy bar. Picture 3 I finally out grew the car seat and dad bought a side car. I loved riding that motorcycle. It was the most freedom I felt before learning to fly. I went with him to pick up the motorcycle after getting the side car installed. He had never driven a side car before. On the way home let's just say we went so fast there wasn't a whole lot left on the speedometer. And now you know why I love doing things that have risk and adrenaline lol! #motorcycleriding #memories https://www.instagram.com/p/CH_SBm6DIzz/?igshid=a3hede3dbrci

Custom Bikes Of The Week: 28 July, 2019
Let’s all gawp at the latest oddity from Curtiss Motorcycles, and then drool over a fabulous retro kit for the Kawasaki Z900 and a killer Sportster scrambler. We’ve also discovered the obscure Honda QA50 KO Minibike and the Royal Enfield Indian.
Kawasaki ‘ZXR900’ kit by Japan Legends Fans of old school Kawasaki fours rejoiced when the Z900RS hit the scene. But if you’re into a different sort of retro—like late 80s and early 90s superbikes—the Spanish outfit Japan Legends has all the goods.
They make a kit to transform your stock Kawasaki into a modern replica of the undeniably cool 1989 Kawasaki ZXR. And despite some reports we’ve read, it doesn’t use the Z900RS as a base. Instead, all you need is the non-RS Z900, which is effectively a contemporary street fighter.
There’s not much info out there (Japan Legends don’t even seem to have a website), but as far as we can tell, the key pieces include a fairing, tail section and belly pan. The kit costs between £1,600 and £2,250 without shipping, and also includes LED lights, mirrors, new bars and a MRA windshield.
Dubbed the ‘ZXR900,’ the kit was originally only available in green (duh), but Japan Legends have just produced a black, red and silver variant too. Why? So you don’t need to paint your tank to match the kit if you don’t have a green Z900. Both versions look equally rad…but that classic green, white and blue livery is hard to argue with. [Japan Legends Facebook]
Harley-Davidson Sportster by Biltwell Inc. and Rouserworks A couple of years ago, Biltwell Inc. built the ‘Frijole 883‘—a Sportster to compete in the NORRA Mexican 1000. Prepping the bike meant buying a ton of spare parts, including a second Sportster to scalp for a spare motor, just in case something went wrong. The Frijole took on the Mexican 1000 and finished…with way less damage than expected.
So the Biltwell crew and Rob ‘Rouser’ Galan took all their leftover spares from the Frijole 883—and built a second Sportster. And so the ‘Spare Parts Sportster’ was born.
Biltwell and Rouser wanted the new bike to be more powerful, and lighter, than the Frijole 883. According to Biltwell’s blog; “Rob did 99% of the work on this build and I think the only thing I did was weld the pipe, pick a few colors, and help make a few decisions.”
The ‘SPS’ has just about everything you’d want from a desert-racing dual-Sporty. It has an S&S Cycle kit inside, a Rekluse clutch, burly suspension and big wheels—but it also has lights and a plate, making it fully street legal. In fact, it’s currently doing duty as a commuter, while Biltwell and Rouser figure out where to race it. [More]
Royal Enfield Indian by Madhouse Motors J.Shia runs Madhouse Motors in Boston—a shop that specializes in vintage motorcycle maintenance and restoration. But she also tackles the odd custom build, and when she does, things get a little crazy.
This is a pretty rare 1957 Royal Enfield Indian, built to enter into this year’s Handbuilt Show. If you’re wondering what a Royal Enfield Indian is, our friends at Return of the Cafe Racers have a neat history lesson—but in short it’s an Enfield with a Indian badge on it.
This one’s pretty rare beyond just its origins though. J.Shia has her own unique take on customization, and a penchant for trying unconventional things. This motorcycle not only features a hand shifter that runs ‘through’ the fuel tank, but also a foot-operated throttle.
There’s a bunch of smaller details too. The tail light’s made from an egg-slicer, the headlight’s a modified police light, the footrests are old shoe fitting devices, and the hand shifter uses a part from a lathe. I’ve seen this bike in person, and there’s miles of stuff to pore over. [More]
Honda QA50 KO Minibike Everyone knows and loves the classic Honda Monkey—but have you ever heard of the QA50 KO? Neither had we, until we stumbled across this cutie pie on Silodrome.
Honda only produced the QA50 from 1970 until 1972. It’s delightfully basic; a 50 cc, air-cooled motor that makes 1.8 hp, an automatic clutch and a two-speed box. The frame’s made from tubular steel, there’s zero suspension out back, and there’s barely a smidge of travel up front. It also has tiny wheels, drum brakes, and a seat and fenders that are comically fat.
This particular QA50 has a great story too. It was bought in the 1969 for $199, by a youngster that had saved up money cutting lawns. That same guy held onto it his whole life, and is now finally putting it up for sale.
It’s been restored in anticipation of the sale: repainted in its original Gypsy Yellow hue, and fitted with new tires, new upholstery with period correct Honda stencils, and the original manual and spark plug wrench. Who’s tempted? [More]
Curtiss Motorcycles Hades The Hades is the second electric motorcycle concept from Curtiss—the boutique brand formerly known as Confederate. And it’s been designed by none other than J.T. Nesbitt—the former Confederate designer (he designed the Wraith) who’s now come back into the fold.
As you’d expect from Curtiss and Nesbitt, the Hades is way, way out there. All we’ve seen are renders, but Curtiss have released some tech specs. The frame will be “titanium or chromoly,” with a “double-wishbone parallelogram fork.” Components will include Race Tech suspension, BST carbon fiber wheels and Beringer brakes.
It’ll be powered by a proprietary motor, with a claimed output of 214 hp and 147 lbs-ft of torque. That chromed NutriBullet bit is the battery, which is said to have a capacity of 16.8 kWh.
All this will set you back a mere $75,000, and production is slated for 2020. Curtiss are taking pre-orders, while also very openly asking for investors in their business. Here’s hoping they manage to take the Hades from paper to street. [More]

Why India Needs Startups Now More Than Ever
2016 became a yr that waited with bated breath because the market watchers were eager to peer how the startup environment in India panned out. Sluggish in the starting and disappointing as we head to the stop, this becomes 12 months that saw many names fold up or ramp down. Pepper taps, which was based amid a good deal fanfare, died a nameless death even as the likes of Growers had to land up their operations in ten cities to conquer the cash burn. The giants in this zone were not spared too. Flipkart struggled to hold pace with Amazon’s competitive growth and Snapdeal fell in addition in the backoff and is risking anonymity following its failure to collect Jabong. The likes of Ola are on the wrong quit of the energy struggle in the Indian marketplace percentage as Uber is flush with funds and complete focussed following its merger with the Chinese rivals Didi Chucking. Thus, to fathom the idea of forming a startup seems foolhardy. However, at the same time as the big names may additionally filter, there stays a dearth of options that stay for the startups to resolve.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is one of the long-term and a lot of his decisions surely replicate it. Be it Swachh Bharat or Digital India, he’s a person with a watch on the future. His program, Startup India, then is a chip off the same block. even as there are demanding situations in starting your very own assignment in trendy marketplace scenario, there’s also an abundance of opportunity this is available to be taken benefit of. Many fields in India nevertheless don’t have many entrepreneurs focusing on it and therein lies the possibility.
For example, the space that exists between the fees paid to the farmer and the one that is shelled out by the patron. The likes of Walmart and others were saved at bay, however, the hassle persists. A gap exists which can be solved, an ability untapped and a solution undelivered. Some other example the sphere of Delivery, especially Packers and Movers. Whenever a person is requested to relocate, the possibility of managing the hassles of moving make us shriek silently. Untrained experts missing the conversation competencies to travel, the paucity of the choice to track your package deal, a choice that is a must while delivery your bundle through dependable alternatives like Blue Dart and DHL, here’s a market that is waited to be revolutionized and milked.

There are numerous motives which have been attributed to the faltering Indian startups this yr, their dismal performances, placing ability buyers from loosening their purse strings. But, the release of Startup India signaled the government’s purpose to embody the answers that the startups create and bring in a brand new era of improvement. Therefore, at the same time as there can be the talk of reaching a saturation point, slowing down of expansion plans among other matters; Indian startups have handiest executed only a fragment of what they are able to. And searching at what may be performed, the only sky is the restrict for those who dare to begin.

Beyond Z: The Kawasaki Factory Z900RS Custom Project
It looks like Kawasaki has hit a home run with its new Z900RS retro standard, and no-one in the press corps has even ridden it yet.
It’s a homage to the mighty inline fours of yore like the Z1 (below) and based on the well-regarded Z900—itself a cracking performer that Cycle World’s road testers placed ahead of the Triumph Street Triple and Yamaha FZ-09 in a group test a few weeks ago.
We haven’t seen such feverish interest in a bike since Husqvarna revealed the Svartpilen and Vitpilen exactly two years ago. But the Austrians have inexplicably been dragging their feet on releasing those bikes.
And even if when they’re revealed at the Italian EICMA show in a few days, there’s a real danger that Kawasaki will steal Husky’s thunder with the production-ready Z900RS.
Kawasaki has wisely taken a leaf out of the BMW and Yamaha playbooks, and has given pre-production samples of the Z900RS to leading custom builders to work their magic. It’s called the Beyond Z project.
So let’s take a closer look at the mods that Moto Corse, Doremi and Bito have made. A few aspects of the Z900RS are already rankling with potential buyers, and it looks like the builders have similar concerns.
BITO R&D Z900RS The specialist Kawasaki tuning shop Bito R&D is located deep in the sparsely populated mountain woodlands of the Hyōgo Prefecture, an eight-hour drive west of Tokyo. In the 70s, owner Jo Bito worked with Pops Yoshimura on Z1 race bikes, but today he takes orders for his JB-Power brand parts from all over the world—including factory teams battling in MotoGP.
Bito-san is the ‘Z Master,’ a craftsman who knows the original Z1 series inside and out, and he’s built his Z900RS custom as if he was his own client. “The Z900RS handles like a modern motorcycle: it’s light and turns well,” he says. “But if it was up to me, I’d prefer handling that was a little more relaxed. So I changed to 18-inch wheels, and specifically selected thinner tires.”
The JB-Power ‘Magtan’ wheels weigh about half as much as the stock wheels. The standard Z900RS brakes perform just fine as is, but but Bito has still opted for machined aluminum calipers with six pistons and cast iron discs for better brake touch and control.
The exhaust is a 4-into-1 layout—“suitable for a modern machine”— made of titanium. Again, it weighs half as much as the stock piece. But the masterpiece is less obvious: a quick-change mechanism equipped on the rear wheel axle shaft. The system was originally developed to allow quick tire changes in endurance races, but it greatly simplifies day-to-day maintenance chores.
There’s a geometry change too. “Fork offset can significantly affect handling,” notes Bito-san. “Increasing it from the 35 mm of the standard model to 40 mm results in an even more hands-on ride feel.” He’s also swapped out the engine hangers, fender stays and headlamp and turn signal brackets for high-quality machined aluminium pieces. Finally, to help bring out the ‘go where you think’ feeling, the rider triangle of the handlebars, seat and footpegs is tweaked for a more relaxed posture.
Modifications
JB-Power parts Handcrafted titanium 4-into-1 exhaust pipe with megaphone silencer | Aluminum rear sprocket | Adjustable-offset fork triple-clamp set | Machined aluminum radial-mount front brake calipers (6-piston) | 320mm cast iron floating front brake discs | 250mm cast iron rear brake disc | Magtan JB4 forged magnesium wheels F: 3.00-18 R: 4.50-18 | Seat leather, cushioning | Machined aluminum footpegs, headlamp, fender and turn-signal stays, engine covers, rear wheel quick-change system, chain adjuster and racing stand hooks | AP Racing/Goodridge Front brake master, steel-braided brake lines | Brembo 2-piston rear brake caliper
Builder: Bito R&D/JB-Power
Doremi Collection Z900RS There are two sides to the town of Kurashiki, home to the Doremi Collection store. There are the white-walled facades left over from the Japan of old, and the sleek high-rises of a modern city. In the storefront window, beautifully restored Z1 and Zephyr models pull your gaze. But in the workshop out back, owner Hiroshi Take has created a scene just like a backyard garage in rural America.
Take-san also looked to the US for inspiration with his Z900RS custom. “I chose the Z1 racers that were active in AMA in the late 70s,” he says. “At that time, Yoshimura was still fielding a Z1 with Wes Cooley as the rider.” To bring back this style, part of the frame had to be redesigned. The main frame’s upper rails are closer together, and the seat rail angle is flatter.
Engine guards jut out with the aim of creating an old-school appearance of volume, along with new engine covers. The Z1’s quad-style exhaust system was iconic, so Take-san has taken apart a stock muffler, removed its internals, and fitted them into a new quad-style muffler. He’s used steel to reproduce the exhaust note that Zeds had back in the day.
Meticulous too with the bodywork, Take-san has fitted a Z2-type tail cowl and the side covers from a Zephyr, plus a steel front fender. The taillight, turn signals and mirrors are also Z2 parts, but the lighting internals are now LEDs. The headlamp uses a modified Z1 case, giving it a classical style, but this too houses a LED unit.
AMA-style disc brakes combined with 18-inch Morris mag wheels perfectly match the bikes of the era, and to achieve the right silhouette, the swingarm was shortened two centimeters. “We are entering the age of cosplay,” says Take-san. “Simply adding rearsets and an aftermarket exhaust will not be enough to stand out.”
Modifications
Doremi Collection parts Z2-type quad-style exhaust system | Titanium water pipe | ‘Dummy’ frame | Machined aluminum upper triple-clamp | 18″ Morris mag wheels | Superbike handlebar and machined aluminum bar ends | Custom seat | Machined aluminum radiator guard, points cover and engine hangers | Grab bar | Z2-type chrome front fender, stays, mirrors, turn signals, side covers, tail cowl, rear fender, taillight | Modified Z1 headlamp and chain case | K-Factory Machined aluminum brake lever, clutch lever, lever guards, footpegs, front sprocket cover | Front axle sliders and engine sliders | Sunstar KR-type front brake discs and rear brake disc | Hyper Pro Rear suspension equipped with seat height adjuster
Builder: Doremi Collection
Moto Corse Z900RS Moto Corse is well known in Japan as an importer of high-end models like Bimota and Vyrus, and as a builder of Ducati, Bimota, and MV Agusta customs. But owner Shin Kondo’s first bike was a Kawasaki. “I had an export model H2, blue with rainbow striping. The rush of acceleration was intoxicating.”
Kondo-san studied dozens of CG illustrations combining various styling, graphics and exhaust options. For the tank, he chose Moto Corse’s original carbon black, divided into both matte and glossy finishes. The bodywork is now carbon fiber throughout, and the stock aluminum engine hangers and front fender supports have also been swapped out for carbon pieces.
Making just a slight change to the seat cushion shape has given the top line of the bike a different look, and shortening the tail end by roughly three centimeters gives a more unified feel. The work is a step-by-step search for the golden ratio that makes a machine look its best.
“Customers will buy this bike because they like the design,” says Kondo-san. “To drastically alter it would be presumptuous. Our job is like polishing a gemstone.” His exacting standards are evident throughout, but especially in the titanium exhaust system. From the center pipe to the end of the silencer, the pipe diameter increases in a reverse taper
The front and rear suspension is now Öhlins. An inverted fork that fits the Z900RS does not exist in Öhlins’ current line-up, so the fork on Kondo-san’s custom machine is a special version created based on an Italian-brand OEM part adjusted for length, with original bottom clamps. Brembo calipers are matched to Alth ventilated discs—which are actually two machined stainless steel discs spot-welded together, for a ‘mellow’ brake feel.
The wheels are custom, made from carbon and featuring a seven-spoke design that suits the vibe of the Z900RS. (To complement the classically wide tank design, a 200mm rear tire was selected.)
“We’ll need to ride it thoroughly now, to highlight any areas for improvement. But in the near future, I would like to look at tuning the engine too,” says Kondo-san.
It will be interesting to see how Moto Corse’s Z progresses from here…
Modifications
Moto Corse parts 4-2-1 titanium full exhaust: titanium flanges, lobster-tail design header pipes and tapered silencer with teardrop honeycomb end cap | CNC aluminum rear sprocket | Titanium gold frame powder coat | CNC machined aluminum upper triple clamp | Special specification Öhlins R&T 43mm front fork, Öhlins S46 fully adjustable rear shock with Moto Corse CNC machined aluminum linkage | Calf-leather seat (perforated, stitching, diamond-quilting) | CNC machined aluminum accessories: smartphone holder, fuel tank cap, DBT preload adjuster dial | Axle sliders | Dry carbon parts: meter housing, headlamp housing, steering neck cover, pivot plate cover, radiator shrouds, throttle body cover, engine supports (x4), preload adjuster support, heel guards, rear fender, license plate support, license plate base | Titanium radiator guard, handlebar ends, frame caps, luggage hooks, tire valve caps, banjo bolts, front fender supports, front brake master cylinder, clutch lever, radiator cover | Brembo CNC machined racing radial-pump front brake master cylinder | GP4RX CNC machined radial-mount front brake calipers | Supersport P34/2 CNC machined rear caliper + CNC machined aluminum caliper support | Alth stainless steel ventilated floating disc brakes | BST7 straight-spoke carbon wheels F: MT3.50-17 R: MT6.00-17 | Magical Racing Dry carbon handlebars

Bikes Of The Week: Tokyo Motor Show Edition
The Japanese put on a show of force at the Tokyo Motor Show. Honda tore the wraps off its new Monkey and ‘Neo’ cafe racer concepts. Yamaha revealed an oddball three-wheeler. Suzuki showed a tasty potential SV650 variant, and Kawasaki set the interwebs alight with the Z900RS. Which one would you pick?
Honda Monkey 125 concept Built around the same 125cc thumper found in the insanely fun Grom, the refreshed Monkey is a modern throwback to Honda’s mini-bikes of yore. And let’s be honest: it absolutely defines radness. The concept stays true to the original Z-series styling and promises to make riders look as ridiculous as ever, although it has been modernized a touch—with a hat tip towards the scrambler movement.
LED lighting, a digital gauge and disc brakes front and rear bring performance and amenities into the 21st century, but the chunky seat and chromed front fender scream mid-sixties sexiness. Considering that many of the parts used here can be plucked from the Grom bins, I can’t see any reason not to rekindle the Monkey movement. Come on Big Red, you know you wanna! [Honda Japan]
2018 Kawasaki Z900RS After teasing us with video snippets over the past few months, Kawasaki finally revealed the Z900RS in Tokyo. And mouths around here are watering. Harkening back to the mighty Z1, Team Green’s new retro ride is a UJM version of their Z900 streetfighter with squeaky clean lines and a honey of a power plant.
In RS guise the 948cc inline-4 has been remapped to deliver a beefier bottom end, which has trimmed peak horsepower to 111 (from 123) but keeps it competitive against the Yamaha XSR900. Other mechanical changes include a shorter first gear for extra squirt at the lights, and a longer final drive to quell buzziness on the interstate.
The trellis frame is new and the radial-mount binders up front are a welcome upgrade. Suspension is a carryover from the streetfighter platform, with full adjustability at front and rear.
The overall design looks incredible right out of the box, and we’re looking forward to telling you how it performs. Wes and I are in round 265 of our rock, paper, scissor fight to see who’ll ride it first, so watch this space. [More]
Yamaha Niken When I think of a three-wheeler my mind immediately conjures up images of a sidecar rig. Sure, I’ll grant you that ‘trikes’ can and do exist, but a Ural or some other tasty combination just feels more ‘right.’
Yamaha obviously doesn’t feel the same way. Looking like a Piaggio MP3 with a steroid and amphetamine addiction, the Yamaha Niken is a ‘Leaning Multi-Wheeler’ that, believe it or not, is a production bike thing vehicle. Powered by the same sonorous triple found in the XSR900, the Niken is clearly pitched at performance-minded riders with a Michael Bay fetish who’d prefer not to grind a knee-puck. And they won’t have to, thanks to a front end that is both confusing and incredibly awesome.
It consists of a pair of 15-inch articulating wheels that are suspended by a set of dual-tube, USD forks, each with a floating disc on their outer side. The width up front is 885mm, which should mean those hoops will probably track awkwardly on anything but silky smooth pavement, making it a bit of a workout to ride. Which I will gladly attempt, if Yamaha will have me. In the name of science, of course. [More]
Suzuki SV650X concept Not to be outdone by its countrymen and rivals, Suzuki is also looking to dip a toe in the retro waters with a cafe version of their SV650. The SV650X, as it’s called, is an evolution of last year’s Rally concept that got people talking about the little Suzi in a good way.
This time around, the concept loses the Rally’s 80’s nostalgia and instead captures the look of a slightly customized first-gen, naked SV. And that’s not a bad thing at all. There are clip-ons up front, and that tidy fairing looks as close to a factory product as I’ve ever seen. The tuck-rolled seat already exists in the Suzuki accessory catalogue so unless those mini fog lights are constructed from Unobtanium, I’m unsure as to why the concept tag is still being applied.
The hope is that this thing makes it out of the Tokyo Motor Show and onto showroom floors: it would be a perfect retro styled ride for beginners and those of us not looking to achieve warp speeds. The SV platform has always been a good one: it’s priced right, performs well and looks great with a bit of kit.
Honda Neo Sports Cafe concept Proving that the UJM bug is biting all brands, Honda also debuted its Neo Sports Cafe concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. The design is reminiscent of the CB4 Concept that dropped at EICMA back in 2015, but with a much stronger retro nod. And it’s easily Honda’s prettiest work of recent years.
Powering Big Red’s cafe racer is a re-tuned version of the 999cc engine that powered previous generation CBR1000RRs around the racetracks of the world. That means horsepower figures should slot into the 105-115 range—which is the sweet spot for the bikes of this ilk.
The selvedge denim and Red Wing crowd might find the design language a little too ‘Neo’ for their tastes, but I’m hoping Honda stays true to this iteration. The lines on the sculpted tank are gorgeous to my eyes, and the rear perch is picture-perfect.
As it’s only a motor show concept, tech details are a touch scant. But Honda can still crank out impressive bikes, so we’re hoping this gets the green light. The rumor is that a production version may make it to Italy in the coming weeks. [Via]
