#both louis and armand are pretty conscious of how they're perceived by those around them

I think they've just evolved with the times. Smoking's not just a way to get nicotine, it was once a very widespread, normal activity to engage in. It was a cultural and social thing.
Now that the health effects have been explored and bans on public smoking have been implemented, the perception of smoking has changed quite a bit. It's off-putting to non-smokers, it discolors your clothes and walls, and it stinks. Those things are more noticeable now than they were when smoking was more pervasive.
I find it interesting that Louis was a smoker in New Orleans, Paris, and San Francisco, but we never once saw him smoke in Dubai. So why did he stop? What changed? It's not like Armand would be pressuring him to quit smoking; Armand was a chimney in Paris. Though we never saw Armand smoke in Dubai either. Did they quit together? Why? It's not like they're going to get cancer from it. I genuinely want input here.
#smoking's not in anymore so armand and louis don't smoke#with how much attention they put into designing and decorating their home#i can see them not wanting their home to reek of cigarettes#i'm sure smoking indoors wouldn't be the best for the art they keep either#if they went somewhere where smoking was the norm i could see them lighting up again#and i could even see armand having a little vaping phase#(and stopping once the vapebros hit max douchy vibes)#smoking may not actually have an effect on them#in the books it didn't - vamps who smoked did so for the aesthetic#but even if they can get nicotine from smoking and become addicted to it in the show!canon#i could see them not being soo attached to the habit that they cling to it despite the negative connotations in modern society#both louis and armand are pretty conscious of how they're perceived by those around them#they have a full staff tending to their needs and they conduct business with humans#amc iwtv#louis de pointe du lac#armand
