At Last At Home

“Meg, uuwi tayo.” was the best word I've heard on May 29, 2021. Living in two decades on this world, I think I've received the best gift ever. That is knowing I can go back to my home town which is Surigao Del Sur after 11 years, and I’ve never been happy as this.

That's why, on the 6th of June 2021, we start our journey on the way home.

And then, land travel again for almost 4 hours and at last on very late night of June 8th 2021, we arrived to our destination.

My grandparents owned a coconut farm and called it Grace Farm. Indeed, grace, because this farm has been meeting the needs of the family ever since.

Finally, 11 years later, I once again saw the accumulation of childhood memories in my very own eyes. The nostalgia that I experienced over a decade has become the joy and pleasure I am experiencing.

I got in touch with my family again. That’s why in the next day they organized a meeting for a family reunion call our other relatives, and plan everything to make our return more memorable for all of us.

My cousins also make a little celebration for me and my siblings in the Tropics Hotel and Inland Resort in Campbagang, Barobo Surigao del Sur, just a 500 meters I think from the farm and we did a night swimming there.

The next day, together with our family, we go to Bogac Cold Spring and Beto Lagoon in Barobo, Surigao Del Sur.

Bogac Cold Spring

Bogac Cold Spring was our first destination on our exploration of Barobo to celebrate our family reunion. Its cold and refreshing water is perfect. Bogac's cold spring is part of Barobo, Surigao Del Sur. Its name is derived from the Visayan word "Bogwak", which means "flow". The cold spring of Bogac becomes part of Barobohonan's daily life. Some fact, is that all of the local athletes are making this spring their training ground. This is what Barobo has been doing since the 1990s as Olympic athletes in the swimming category.

Well as you can see at the pictures, you can tell that we're having fun. The water is crystal clear with bluish water. Yes, it's blue, not green. And that means it's frozen (well not literally but kinda). I even in the point that I want to get up from the water because it's too cold but I wanted to stay too. In the end, I choose to stay because it was 11 years ago the last time I was there.

We also go to Beto Lagoon that was just a few meters from Bogac Cold Spring. There were at the same place but the Bogac Cold Spring is in the left side and the Beto Lagoon is in the right side of the area.

Beto Lagoon is more bluish than Bogac Cold Spring, but this time it is not allowed to swim in the area because under monitoring for "Save Borabo River Program". So we end our day there by taking some photos of this majestic river for remembrance.

Just a day after we go to Bogac Cold Spring, went to Coastway beach located in Lianga, Surigao Del Sur.

Coastway

Coastway is a beach were many resorts where located. There were many cottages too for those people who wanted to stay just for a while and have some fun with videoke with sight seeing these breath taking view in front of you.

The left side of this view is the famous Britannia Group of Island (too bad, I forgot to take a picture of it ☹️) and in the right side were you can see the the three small island is the other view of Turtle Island which is also besides Cabgan and Vanishing Island but because of high tide, Vanishing Island is no where to found. Hehe

Maybe Coastway is not famous as those island that I mention above but you can't deny the fact that this place is mesmerizing and beautiful too. I admire the cleanliness of the area especially the water. And everytime it go low tide, you can see a amazing rock formations. I remember when I was a kid, we always used to go here everytime we want to. This place have a special spot in my heart.

And before we go back to farm, we did a stop over to our Ancestral House which I also lived for about 3 years of my childhood, it is located in one of barangay in Lianga.

Two days later, our last destination for our family reunion exploration is in Sua. Sua is one of the barangay in municipality of Barobo.

The island-look that you can see besides me is were the Sua is located. You can travel there by land or pump boat. But by that time, because we were too many we decided to split into a group to take car and pump boat.

When you travel by pump boat, it only take less than an hour, while in land travel it take more than an hour. So when you decide to go there, better choose pump boat for fast travel.

So this is the view from Sua.

Despite of the hot weather, me and my cousin made that sand lettering of our family name and decided to take a picture of it together with the grandchildren, too bad we're not complete because the elders grandchildren has their own work to do.

When the low tide came, we do some gleaning of seafoods.

Vanishing Island, Cabgan Island and the Turtle Island

You can see the Vanishing Island if you take a closer look of the picture. It is in the left side of the picture. Then Cabgan Island in the center, the long one. And then the Turtle Island in the right side.

Barobo is a coastal town situated at the central region of Surigao del Sur. And with its location, the area is richly favored with water resources, which started gaining popularity with the help of social media.

And through those days that we've been there at Sua, we spend our quality time with night swimming, bonfire, camp tent, and of course, with some drinks. 😉

July 14, 2022: Emilia Foundation organized a luncheon get together for all its college scholars and their former teachers who mentored them during their grade school years. It was a time also to give recognition to achievers, introduce the incoming 4 college scholars and distribute laptops, iPhones and other gadgets for their use in college. The 4 incoming college scholars ( see first photo) are Marck Nick Casitas (Nursing), Daisy Diaz (Education), Karie Annie Cas (Administration) and Maribel Lopez (Food Technology). The other college scholars are the sophomores (second photo) Alexandra Bongalbal (Education), Vergel Ragos (Education), Jastine Bongalbal (Nursing); the juniors (third photo) Emalyn Boragay ( Education) and Eric Cañon (Social Work); seniors (4th photo) Hanah Faye Tuscano (Broadcasting), Maricris Consorte (Education), Jessabeth Borabo (Accounting) and Algie Buenaflor (Education, Army Reserved Trainee).

August, 2021 - Emilia Foundation added three to its roster of college scholars. The three have been its scholars at the Tabaco National High School for the last six years since their graduation from barrio Balading Elementary School. Below are the three new college scholars:

Left: Alexandra M. Bongalbal, BS Education, major in math, Bicol University Polangui Campus, Albay.

Right: Vergel B. Ragos, BS Education, major in math, Tiwi Community College, Albay.

Bottom: Jastine Jane D. Bongalbal, BS Nursing, Bicol University Polangui Campus, Albay.

With the addition of the three, the foundation has now 9 college scholars and 20 high school scholars and plans to add 3 more in both college and high school levels every year with its current amount of regular donations. It hopes to get more funding in order to increase the number of its scholars.

There are 4 college scholars now on their junior year:

Jessabeth Borabo, BS Accounting, Bicol University Daraga Campus; Hanah Faye Tuscano, BA Broadcasting, Bicol University Legazpi Campus; Algie Buenaflor, BS Education math major, Bicol University Tabaco Campus and Maricris Consorte, BS Education math major.

There are two college scholars now in their sophomore year:

Eric Cañon, BS Social Work, Bicol University Tabaco Campus and Emalyn Boragay, BS Education math major, San Jose Community College, Malilipot, Albay.
