reddit convo made me realize a large portion of new vegas players dont even know manny is gay which is crazy. Let alone that he has a crush on boone and was jealous of carla and got a little too excited when she died because of that

Boone is a man searching for sense in the nonsensical. He’s turned his life into a stage play, and reduced everyone in it to a role.
For every major moment in his life, he remembers himself as a passive observer.
The NCR chose him for First Recon, and he accepted for the pay. He describes his training as being broken down until following orders was automatic.
At Bitter Springs, he did what he was told, even knowing command didn’t understand the situation. He believes the only alternative would have been to kill himself.
He met Carla because he was standing around looking lost and she approached him. They moved to Novac because Manny brought them there.
And he describes Cottonwood Cove as “being forced to watch something you can’t stop.” His entire marriage was just a cruel plot twist, with himself and Carla as props rather than characters.
When he joins the Courier, he does it because he thinks the curtains are opening on the final act. The playwright (which he only describes as “something watching”) has drawn it out long enough and is finally going to end it. By all accounts, he’s looking forward to it — at least for the wait to be over.
But then he survives his quest, and he’s almost devastated. The world’s gone off-script. He doesn’t know his lines anymore. When he turns to the Courier, the person he took to be his harbinger of fate, it’s a desperate bid to make it make sense.
But the Courier was never an omen. They’re a maker of fate. On their advice, he becomes more proactive in his own life (for better or worse). Unfortunately, he can only be convinced the universe isn’t out to get him by sacrificing his conscience, and it doesn’t really bring him any relief to do so. So the best ending for Boone is to accept the framework he’s created for himself, but defy the stars and just keep going despite it all.
And, you know. One of these days he has to figure out the cosmos aren’t plotting his demise. Right?

"Manny was right" "Carla was right" they were both right actually. Carla was in a new place surrounded by strangers who didn't understand her and didn't really attempt to. She was probably suffering from some pretty severe depression and anxiety. her shyness was mistaken for aloofness and her honesty was mistaken for rudeness- autism moment !
Manny was one of the many who didn't understand her. But he was valid to be upset that all his friend's (situationship's?) time was now taken up by someone else - because he didn't understand she had support needs the same way Boone does. he understandably assumed when she went missing without explanation that she'd got up and left Boone - and Boone made no attempt to correct his assumption (for Boone reasons). and of COURSE he was outraged about this. fucking his friend is one thing, taking him away from manny is another thing, but LEAVING him???? to see Boone so utterly defeated??? unforgivable, irredeemable.
if manny knew the truth about Carla i think he'd start to see her from a different perspective. I think actually that, at their hearts, past their very different upbringings, Carla and Manny were SO alike. and thats part of why they didn't get along.
Also , Carla is thai 💗 that doesn't have anything to do with Manny i just thought people should know

Craig Boone is the funniest character ever for being so depressed over his wife's death he can't even concieve of the obvious reality that he's bisexual, which has been singlehandedly driving his gay ex-best friend with an obvious crush on him absolutely fucking ferocious insane over the past decade or two. They work different shifts of the same sniper nest by the way. Masterpiece of contextual storytelling.

More lore on Liam’s story!
Sadly it wasn’t a happy memory…
The thing is he used to have a partner when he was a trooper, Jesús. They had a pretty discret relationship, since being gay and open was frowned upon as captain Knight tells you in game, but they were happy. Everyone else just thought they were good friends.
One day Jesús died and he couldn’t bear it. He left the NcR and became a courier to escape the memory.
I think he was better off without seeing that picture
Also I like to think that Liam and Boone’s paths crossed at McCarran.

the thing about manny vargas is that i think that his unrequited gay crush on craig boone should be as miserable and involve stepping on as many rakes of awkwardness as possible ("how long do i have to wait for my dead friend to grieve his wife before asking if he wants to experiment sexually again" is like something larry david would write if he were gay) just because i think that it's funny. like it sucks for him supremely but i want it to suck so much that it becomes genuine schadenfreude to me, the gay viewer. and the absolute obliviousness of craig boone to this misery is of the utmost importance, of course

can you imagine being gay for your sniper squad mate for years knowing he's straight while accepting you'll never be together but ultimately choosing to stay by his side because you deeply care about him so you convince him to settle down with his wife at the same town as you only for him to become even more traumatized and turning more distant than ever only for him to leave and fuck the first little gay doctor meets
