Once There Were Wolves is such a beautiful novel that it confirmed Charlotte McConaghy as one of my new favourite authors that I discovered this year. Thanks to my amazing friend Jenni over at @tarheelreader for introducing me to her and for buddy reading this with me. ⁣ ⁣ Like the authors first novel Migrations, this novel is focused very much on the environment and the effect that humans have had on it. We are introduced to Inti and her twin sister Aggie who have just moved to the Scottish Highlands for Inti to carry on her work re-introducing a pack of wolves back into the area. ⁣ ⁣ Both Inti and Aggie are struggling from incidents in their past and attempting to re-build their lives and heal. However, re-introducing the wolves comes with its own set of problems and when a farmer is found dead it precipitates a chain of events. Inti refuses to believe that one of her wolves caused the death of the local man. Worryingly, if the death wasn’t the fault of a wolf, who was it? Could Inti now be in terrible danger?⁣ ⁣ When I first started to read this book, I was expecting gloriously rich writing as I remembered how gorgeous and smooth Migrations had been to read. However I wasn’t expecting to be completely bowled over by the plot which in places, read like a literary thriller. Additionally, the author has such a gift for getting right under their characters skin to the point where the reader feels like they really know them. ⁣ ⁣ I cannot recommend or shout about this book or author enough. If you’re an animal lover, interested in the environment or want to be captivated by a story and its characters, this is the book for you. It was certainly an unforgettable experience for me and an instant favourite. ⁣ ⁣ Five stunning stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ⁣ #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookreview #oncetherewerewolves #charlottemcconaghy #favouriteanimal #favouritebooks #fivestarread #fivestarreview #unforgettablereads #booksthatmakeyouthink #booksabouttheenvironment https://www.instagram.com/p/CVhqt1eLAvJ/?utm_medium=tumblr

I want to highlight good reads from other authors who teach humane education messages through their books. My sister sif is a fantastic book and one which was key 🔑 in the formation of my views and beliefs growing up. It’s a beautiful story written in 1986 and about a dystopian future in the early 2000’s set on a slightly magical Pacific island. Sadly the dystopian view of this time is not too far from the reality but as always it’s not too late for our species to turn things around. Everyone should read my sister sif! #humaneeducation #goodreads #ecobooks #ecoeducation #socialandemotionallearning #booksforteens #booksabouttheenvironment #booksfortweens #education #changemakers #solutionary #ecoed #bethechange #readforempathy #readforempathyguide http://bit.ly/2L8aSuL
