4th & Broadway Records was a dance label that dabbled in rap music from 1987 to the mid-90’s. Their rap catalog had no definitive sound; they signed artists from all over the map focusing on alternative sounds and original images but never hit the Arrested Development level paydirt. With the exception of the Stereo MC’s, no artist stuck around for more than a single or album and many of the rappers would go on to complain about their experiences with the label. Aside from a few key artists, 4+B’s output is what I would describe as interesting but not for me but I still walked away from this deep dive with a playlist full of treats.

HOBBS & SHAW (2019)
“A movie partially set in Samoa and featuring hip-hop and there’s no room on the soundtrack for BOO-YA T.R.I.B.E!? Not even ‘Another Body Murdered’? You guys know anything at all about Samoa? Do people vacation there? Is it like ‘undiscovered Hawaii’? Or is it just kinda boring but with some hills? Why are there so many NFL players from there? It’s a US territory and I know NOTHING. This film tells me there are no women there aside from the Rock’s mama. How do they reproduce? They sever a finger and it turns into a whole new offensive lineman? Anyway whatever - this is fun. Balding meatball subs fight a very handsome cyborg who is in love with his motorcycle. The end.” -Tommy Gazelle
