MATH1601: Mathematics - from the Renaissance to Modern Day
hands down the best unit i have ever done across any of my three tertiary qualifications it was so interesting and fun and v accessible even if you don’t have a lot of background in maths (disclaimer: I did but the prof just adapted things to challenge me a bit more) but honestly we had italian renaissance artwork / projective geometry, game theory, encryption, i got to do a research report on current encryption vs post-quantum cryptography which essentially launched my cybersecurity career like ?????? and this was an elective that the professor was teaching just because he loved it and it got canned for future semesters by the uni bc they didn’t see the value in a non-compulsory maths unit and I am so disappointed that no one after our cohort got to experience the joy of watching this maths professor explain public key encryption using lego under a digital overhead display to a room full of people from tons of different majors
can't do this one as a poll bc there's endless choices but if you're in college/university or went to college/university what's been the most fun/enriching class you've had?
#bonus he also had to adapt to covid lockdowns halfway through the unit bc it was 2020 and he did it like a CHAMP#did not detract from the learning at all#the lego made a few more guest appearances in the online lectures ahaha#i hope he claimed it on tax as a work expense lol#when you have a lecturer who is SO passionate about what they’re teaching it’s impossible not to have fun#but the contents were also so varied and attention grabbing too#he also showed us some holiday photos from Italy when he was in the renaissance art period
