idk why put i'd never have had you down as a kazutora fan! what do you like about him?

omg no way!!! i love him so much!! he’s like in my top three faves (if im allowed to include the haitani’s in one spot since, y’know, they’re practically inseparable)! but for what i like about him:

well for starters, i find him and his whole storyline insanely comforting—obviously not including that disappointment of an ending (we don’t accept the canon ending here on inkykeiji <3)—but the idea that kazutora really put in the fucking work to better himself both for himself and for those he cares about is truly so lovely to me. i like his story of growth and change.

on the sexy side, i love neck tattoos HAHA but also kazutora personally strikes me as this unbelievably horny, downright nasty little virgin (like season one tomura, essentially, but with less degradation and sadism; i think tora is rough during sex but he isn’t sadistic, and half the time he doesn’t even know his own strength). he just seems like the type that is literally ALWAYS raring to go, no matter when, where, or why. he’s always down to fuck, he gets hard ridiculously easy, and his refraction time is practically nonexistent. v eager, v keen, v desperate—to please and to fuck. idk all of that is really attractive to me!!!

i could kinda write u a whole essay on kazutora so i’m gonna stop here but that’s it in a nutshell!!! i really really really love his whole character arc (in the bonten timeline in particular!) and i think he fucks rough n dirty n frequently <3

Oh look, Mika wrote another rant about the end of Tokrev... Yay...

i've been scrolling down my tumblr posts, and i saw that i still had that long ass rambling about the ending of Tokyo Revengers, and boy is it salty and of bad faith, Mika. So instead of rewriting the entire thing, or deleting it like i probably ought to, i'm back for round three (no real spoilers but long af):

First of all, i don't think the ending was actually that bad (in terms of ideas) but the build up to it was so late (can you even speak of a build up then?) that it made the entire thing clumsy and... well, not very good. And i actually have another recent example of a show that i really liked (like, it's really super good) that had an ending i found... lacking at best and disappointing, at worse. Basically two of the main characters die, thirty minutes before the end of the final episode, and then... things get weird, they're not dead, and while it made sense (because of plot and lore reasons) it just- kinda came out of nowhere, and the way they did this was very clumsy.

So basically- great ideas, but terrible execution of them.

Secondly, i realized i really teared into Takehina in my last rambling- i mean post about the ending of tokrev, and i should probably clarify, now that i'm no more salty about it: i don't hate Takehina! i just hate that it could have been a really great ship, but it wasn't (at least not in cannon). Although it did get slightly better in the tenjiku arc, there's a lot of things that bug me about them. They don't seem to be really good for each other in a romantic relationship, they seem much better off as just friends. Takemichi, both the past and the future versions, is a terrible boyfriend, albeit for different reasons (future Takemichi doesn't seem to consider Hina as a romantic option, but the real problem is that he keeps putting other things--and people!--before her, she always comes in second, and that's not cool). And i still think that Hina's evolution as a character regressed because of this relationship. Not that it's a bad thing for a story, characters don't always have to evolve and change for the better, actual humans sure don't, but by the end she just is a trophy wife, and lost all personality.

Which is why, i still think the Takehina wedding is crap, because their relationship wasn't much after the bonten arc. In fact the bonten wedding between them was a much better idea! At that point their relationship was much better, but Takemichi literally gives up his bride-to-be for his best friend sooo.... Maitake wedding then? I'm not sure their relationship is much healthier, actually, it's definitely worse. Takehina might hold each other down (by the time of the final arc, are they really good for each other? If they aren't, aren't they just keeping each other from being truly happy by wanting to stay together still?) but at least they don't bring the worse in the other. I mean, Maitake before the final time travel is basically, Mikey trying to kill Takemichi, and Takemichi trying to save him no matter what. Never said interesting ships were all healthy, did they now? And i don't ship them, but it would have made more sense if they were endgame (and hopefully good for each other).

Although, most ships (or relationships) in this manga aren't really healthy, at least some of the time, if not most of the time. I love Kokonupi, but god these toxic bi*ches! But relationships are never perfect, as long as they keep improving and there is trust, communication, and respect, then things aren't so bad. (Notice how Kokonupi is fundamentally lacking, maybe all components i just cited... until they finally tackle on communication in the final arc... only to have it removed with the ending. I swear i'm no more salty, i just sincerely wonder what their relationship looks like in the new future/present Takemichi made, but wakui wouldn't show me so...)

So Takehina could've been better, and probably should've, but maybe it's just that wakui doesn't know how to write romance (and, it's not really a romance story, so that's fine).

Well, to conclude this, i'm disappointed, but no more salty about this ending. I'll take the good things from it, and disregard the bad. Because i can. Because this is fiction. And because it could be so much worse than just a bad ending. Which, admittedly, isn't the worst ending that ever concluded a story; and as for it being bad: wasn't the first, won't be the last.

I hope this somehow made sense, i am no longer resenting the ending, just disappointed. I'm not sure it was necessary to make a THIRD post about the end of tokrev (was it, Mika?) but this should be the last i make.

Ever since break started I’ve been in a kind of limbo. It feels so surreal not having any work to do. I mean I do have basic chores to do today like the laundry and vacuuming and stuff but besides that it’s a free day. I am. Very very very. Temped to start reading the blue lock manga. I know I said I’d wait for the anime to finish but like I need something to do 😭😭. I was starting my first TR reread since the last chapter but I only got in 3 chapters before I started sobbing and I haven’t even gotten to Akkuns first death or met Mikey and Draken for the first time again yet. I’m gonna have to chunk my way through it while sobbing and taking so many breaks because I will seriously never recover from this manga. OH AND I LOVE CHIFUYUS BIRTHDAY ART. Wakui continuing to attest that yes takefuyu are still canon in the reset timeline. It’s such a relief for me because those two are my comfort duo 😭😭😭. I also want to finish Chainsaw Man soon. I stopped at around volume 9 because I’m broke and was reading it at the bookstore and all I can say is that this series is definitely getting a reread cause I love analyzing strange works and concepts. THE MAITAKE COVER ASJKGFJKHFFGGG. The way I screeched when I first saw it like. I love how you worded it, they literally look like royalty together UGH. Suffice to say that yes maitake fans has a field day with the cover of volume 31 😌😌. I cant wait for the inside cover to be revealed. My prediction/demand is that it’s gonna be then as children childhood-friends-to-lovers. But I guess we’ll see.

I revisited my childhood with watching DBZ... (i knew i said i would start one piece but the gym bro-ness got the better of me and i started watching it) someone please explain why does Goku's voice sound... i don't know how to describe it. i was so shocked about his voice, i was planning on watching the dub instead cause of it *crying* Honestly, Wakui did a really good job with the cover. Even when I was reading mangas online - I was so awed by the covers of the manga and when TR was on its peak here, i saw a lot of spoilers for bonten mikey. I never liked mikey... but this made me change my mind. And they (like every cover character i saw up until the Brahman arc looked like royalty. Even hanma-) I'm doing well! Contemplating to change the blog theme for some reason. It's not gonna be aiku ofc- he gets 0 screen time cause he hasn't come back from italy and i am mad at him with part 1 to ocean hues I'm on my winter break actually and omw back home. Fifa knocked the wind out of me. I feel sad cause Mbappé played really well (and he was sad too when they lost), i literally went to go keep my plate and he scored in 97 seconds of the first goal T.T . But i'm also really happy for Argentina cause its the first time in 36 years since Maradona that they have won the Wc and i cried cause they were crying on the field not to mention the fact that Messi played in their team as well - so it was bittersweet ending but also very well deserved! It’s already more than an year since I started Tokyo Revengers. If not for the anime, I would have ignore this title for the rest of my life.

To be honest, I watched the first episode on a whim. I didn’t even know if it was anime original or manga adaptation. I didn’t know the plot, the themes… I didn’t know anything, I watched it only because I was bored and I wanted to watch something new.

Nevertheless, the first episode was really interesting. Especially the cliffhanger at the end. So, I started the manga solely because I wanted to know if Takemichi would succeed in saving Hina.

After the first arc, I really thought that Hina was safe and I asked myself why there were more than 200 chapters if the main issue was already resolved. Then, I was really shocked when Hina was killed before Takemichi’s eyes.

At that point, I couldn't help to keep reading until the last available chapter. I didn’t expected that this manga could be so sad and that I would be this invested in the characters interaction and relationships.

I soon realized that time-leaping mechanism was not the main point of this manga, nor the fights. What I like the most are the characters developments, so I couldn’t care less about some discrepancy. (Well, the issue of past Takemichi and future Takemichi did bothered me, but I came up with an explanation that satisfy me, so it’s alright)

So, more than half of the manga was about “saving Hina”. At the beginning, I thought that Takemichi’s mission was to discover the culprit of her death, but Kisaki being the main antagonist was revealed very early. It was unexpected.

On the other end, the current arc is all about “Mikey”. I thought that Kisaki was the only enemy and that Mikey was a victim, but now we learnt that Mikey worked with Kisaki on his own will. Kisaki did manipulate him and the people near him, but Mikey also had some hidden intention.

The manga is mainly narrated from Takemichi point of view. For him, Kisaki was the only enemy while Mikey was a victim that got involved in their conflict for no reason related to him.

From this point of view, Kisaki destroyed friendships and killed people only to make Hina fall for him. His efforts literally went in the wrong direction.

I mean, in the first timeline Takemichi wasn’t even involved with Mikey and Toman. Yet, Draken, Baji, Kazutora (and possibly Emma, Chifuyu, even Mitsuya (maybe, to avenge Draken)) lost their lives. Kisaki didn’t even kept in contact with Hina, how did he expected to make her fall for him after 12 years? She likely have forgotten about him.

To be honest, I don’t think that he really loved her. Kisaki was only possessive. And instead of confronting Takemichi (for example), he went to ruin Mikey’s life and take over Toman. Mikey didn’t even had anything to do with Kisaki personal issue, so he is indeed a victim.

I don’t know what Mikey expected from Kisaki, but he wouldn’t have trusted him if he knew about his plan to kill all of his friends. (In the Manila timeline, Mikey killed all his friends by himself, but he was manipulated by Izana, who was also manipulated by Kisaki)

Then, Takemichi started time-leaping. But he was not the one who approach Mikey, rather it was Mikey who wanted to befriend Takemichi to the point to “kidnap” him from school.

Takemichi was initially forced to become involved with Toman, but he slowly befriend its members and want to protect them. Mikey slowly became as important as Hina to Takemichi.

Takemichi and Mikey know each other for an year (?), but Takemichi is supposed to be the only one that can save Mikey. In Manila timeline, Mikey didn’t kill Takemichi and sent him a letter to meet in Philippines. In Bonten timeline, Mikey asks Takemichi to save him. He is the only one he reveal about his dark impulses (beside Kisaki and Sanzu). Draken shield Takemichi because he evaluated that he can’t save Mikey, while Takemichi can (or at least he have more chance).

Mikey stated that Kisaki and Takemichi changed his fate. The first timeline was his fate if he only meet Kisaki and not Takemichi. What if he never met neither Kisaki nor Takemichi? Would the dark impulse manifest in the same way?

Would Mikey life be better if he met Takemichi first? Would Mikey change mind about weak people if he was there when Takemichi saved Hina? (We know that that event had an huge impact on both Hina and Kisaki)

Summing up:

Mikey is physically strong, but mentally weak. Takemichi is the opposite. That’s why Mikey need Takemichi as a complementary part of himself (?)

Well, in the first timeline Takemichi was a coward who ran away from everything. He chose to call himself weak and to give up. But it seems that he regret this choice as an adult, even before time-leaping.

If at the time Takemichi chose to not give up, it’s possible that he would have achieve the same result as he did with time-leaping.

When he died the first time, the thing that came to his mind was Hina because Hina represent the best part of his life (at least the best he can remember before the trauma - Takemichi does behave like his time stopped when he was 14). And by meeting Mikey, Takemichi decide to improve himself because he respect him.

As a result, Takemichi healed himself from his “fears”. Mikey has helped Takemichi during his journey, now is Takemichi’s turn to heal Mikey from his darkness (?). Because they have similar “experience”, - something abstract they have to fight - Takemichi is the only one who can save Mikey (?).

The way their life is connected is really interesting, but it’s hilarious they were brought together thanks to Kisaki.

Reading this current arc make Kisaki look like a secondary antagonist. His death was really unexpected. He paid for his action, but he wasn’t “defeated” (in the conventional way).

Thinking back, Kisaki did guided Mikey in all the bad Toman futures taking advantage of his dark impulses.

To conclude… talking about he current arc…

Many people were disappointed from the rush of the fights. Mainly how the ex Tenjiku members were defeat so quickly. Well, the ex Tenjiku members didn’t exactly have an important role in this arc. I think that their appearance served only for the Toman members to settle pending matters from the previous arc.

This arc serve to give every character a conclusion, I guess. We have Koko and Inupi reconciliation; Kakucho death (if he is really death) is painful, but have to accept that he doesn’t have a purpose in his life (he himself stated that Izana gave him a reason to live), he chose to sacrifice himself to give meaning to his life; Taiju return and maybe he will reconcile with his family; the same could be applied to the Akashi siblings in future chapters (once we will be revealed the truth about Sanzu scars and his obsession with Mikey).

To be honest, I have no idea about Benkei and Waka purpose. I really want to know the reason of their introduction and the reason they joined Mikey’s gang.

As for Hanma, I think he is just a free spirit. He just enjoy meddling in others affairs and Kisaki was the one who provide him the most entertainment.

Mikey would be tf in jail or in a mental institution. Like y’all stated - these past few chapters have shown us tht Mikey has been with all the shit tht happened. He literally didn’t kill anyone in the two years he was away from everyone BUT as soon as Takemichi got involved again shit changed and Mikey snapped and reached a point of no return because he murdered someone. Ppl have a right to criticize Takemichi because yes he’s caring but he’s also naive and selfish. The whole reason he went back in time was to save Hina. He was able to keep going back UNTIL he accomplished tht goal. Everyone was good except Mikey who was fine with that and it literally showed us despite all the arcs prior - in order to save Hina, Mikey actually DIDNT need to be saved or happy, he just needed to be out of his friends lives. He was ok with that, everyone was sad about that but were CONTENT with the current life they had, they were all thriving and Takemichi saw that but he IMMEDIATELY tried to go back once he realized Mikey was in Bonten. SELFISH. Prioritizing the happiness of one person over others when said person did all this to make sure all of them lived happy lives..? Um yeah, it’s goofy af. Bro went back in time and didn’t even have a plan on how to bring Mikey down. 😭

Like goddamn even after this reveal, I thought we could all agree that Mikey is the problem. MIKEY HIMSELF KNEW HE WAS THE PROBLEM. Why is it so hard for y’all to admit this? You can feel bad for him but why do you feel the need to defend this? He’s been fucked up in EVERY future and we even saw as a child he’s been like this, it’s not about “standing by him and helping.” PEOPLE HAVE TRIED. Like??? Idk if it’s worth it to argue with this person cuz most of tr stans agreed with the fact that Takemichi fcked everyone’s future that Mikey has tried to protect. It was not a pointless statement if you look at it. Of course we used to collectively agreed that he needed help, until more chapters were released that showed a lot of violences committed by him in his sane mind and now Mikey himself admitted that he didn’t want to be saved. If we’re gonna talk about REAL WORLD, nobody- NOT EVEN YOU, would endangered yourself to go and look out for your friend [that you have been completely informed] is a notorious criminal and try to speak sense to them. BET YOU’D PISS IN YOUR OWN PANTS when they pointed a gun on your head.

Takemichi’s intention is indeed pure (no one said it didn’t) but it was obvious that he did not even tried to process the situation thoroughly and think twice to trigger another time leaping AND MIND YOU: the alternation of the timeline that will result or affect everyone’s bright future. Not just Naoto but even Draken too had asked him not to come for Mikey, as in RESPECTING Mikey’s wish but what did he do? he broke it. You’re right, Takemichi could’ve helped him in the future timeline but tell me- was it worth your precious life and future marriage to chase over a criminal? Yes, Mikey is a good kid and he too deserved to be happy but he literally chose this path himself. 12 years have passed. He even had to prepare a video tape just to stop Takemichi. What does that tell you?

Also, how this person knows we treated our friends like that? Sounds to me [that this person thought] it was OKAY to forsaken others’ future for the sake of one person (let me emphasized this again- who had multiple times stated that HE DID NOT WANT HELP ANYMORE). If you believe you can provide help and support for your friends who are going through a mental illness, then good for you but please learn that not everyone is capable to do the same because they may be undergoing through life as well. It’s never okay to use mental illness as a way to commit violence! I don’t know whether Takemichi could’ve done the same because this is a whole different story now. He is no more about altering the past for a better future, he’s all about saving Mikey and forgetting the rest that are much more important. Regardless of what I felt and said about Mikey, in the end we all want to see how this would’ve ended; whether Mikey will be saved or not and whether all of Takemichi’s effort would be worth.

I am all about respecting different opinions but people can have different opinions as well, and I have my own too. Also, Mikey’s dark impulses is born out of love, not mental illness. Re-read the latest chapter again.
