☕️ getting into art school in the current era

Oooh this is a good one.

The short answer is you don't need to go to art school. There are so many good and more affordable resources out there.

However, some things to think about are: what makes it easier for you to learn? Is networking important to you? Are you willing to take on the amount of debt you would be in to go to school? Would you need to relocate to attend this school?

Personally I learn better in a structured school environment. That was a big factor for me and one that ultimately lead to my decision to go to an art school.

It's also important to consider the reputation of the school. Some art schools are, unfortunately, scams. You pay a bunch of money and they let everyone in and the profs don't have enough time to tutor every student - of course this can happen with online courses as well. Find testimonials, or alumni. Are they successful? Do you like the work they're putting out? Again, for me, I am very fortunate to live within commuting distance of some very good art/animation schools. But you also need to listen to what people are saying. Sometimes a school has a good reputation but if you talk to recent grads you may learn that the reputation is out of date. Students will also give you an idea of what the environment may be like. Some schools will pit students against each other, where others might foster a more collaborative environment.

Also with traditional art schools you are most likely going to have to submit a portfolio. And with how accessible art is today with lessons online it is going to be HARD to get in to these programs. People are getting better and better at a younger age because of the resources they have available to them.

Don't feel bad if you don't get in on your first try. You can learn a lot about your weaknesses and areas to focus on more through failure. It took me 3 years to get into animation school and five separate portfolios.

tl;dr: Consider all your options, there are amazing online resources and affordable online courses available. Know how you learn best, do your research. This is your future. Spend your time narrowing down choices and figuring out what you want to do. There is no rush, these lessons and schools aren't just gonna explode suddenly.

This ended up being more like figuring out if art school is for you or not instead of specifically getting into art school but whatever.

i have quite a few 😭 for general ones I have to share my "guides" for trip-hop, britpop, big beat because i like giving recs for genres [also spotify is also terrible at cataloguing], these ones aren't labelled but i also have playlists for gothic rock and dungeon synth too; my 🏜️ tag actually has a playlist dedicated to it (its pre-2000 country^^), pretty proud of these two playlists which are meant to mimic game osts ( 🏥 , 💽) for fandom ones: i mean my hilson playlist is a really good go-to, also my vincent (collateral) one; amber and chase's I'm also really proud of, and i mean i have to share my gary king one [which I'm aware its like 6 hours]

1. LA Confidential- brilliant cast(Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Kim Basinger), great adapted screenplay, a masterpiece

2. Anastasia (aka film who absolutely MADE my childhood)

3. Air Force One- with Harrison beloved, saw it as a kid, still love it as an adult

2005:

1. Revenge of the Sith - like, I didn't have to think about it, favourite film of my LIFE dammit, it's cinematography at its finest if I was to come back to life to watch one film only it WOULD BE THIS ONE

2. Batman Begins - Nolan's Batman is the only Batman for me (no I haven't seen Pattinson's version)

3. Cinderella Man (saw it last year for the first time and I am obsessed)

4. The Chronicles of Narnia - a classic, really, this film made lil Debora very happy indeed and still continues to

5. Pride and Prejudice - *rewatch rewatch rewatch* despite many design related inaccuracies

GIMME NANCY FACT re sleepover

:D sure, not sure what to sure as i don't really consider myself the most interesting of people, but i almost died on a amusement park ride once when I was 16. it was one of those tower swings :

i went with a group of friends in highschool but we were and odd numbered group and i ended up sitting alone. It was also very windy that day, and the ride had been closed until the wind died down. So we got up to the highest part of the ride and there was a gust of wind that forced my swing out, so it was no longer aligned to the other swings and every one started screaming, but it's fine because im still alive.

ooh good question! honestly i just find it really appealing and it's a lot of fun to draw. they're also great for pushing an art style especially when it comes to a lot of organic things since organic shapes are usually rounded

Your top three house md episodes :)

Okay so I have the most eclectic picks for this show.

After Hours (7.22) I am normal about this episode (I have rewatched it 23 times) I could write a full essay on this episode and how the b-plot with chase and thirteen shows a glimpse of them being the prodigal children to house or how it shows how avoidant house is on treating his leg. and also its like one of the few "darker" episodes. yes it is a season 7 episode but its like the ONLY one i genuinely keep revisiting, its that good.

Here Kitty (5.18) I LOVE ANIMAL-CENTRED EPISODES!!!! as much as I love the episode where house gets steve i think this one just scratches that itch of house being an antagonising bastard with an animal while also going out of his way to care for it. also the little banter he has with my favourite boy kutner (and if you know 5.20 abt ;___;)

Mirror Mirror (4.5) Strange pick but I absolutely Love the little character analysis by the patient towards like everybody. Like I think about this episode constantly like its not a reference type episode but for giving a glimpse on the characters (you can tell i over think about the little details) and it works especially well as an introduction to the newer team.

i moved twice in the past year and as a result my mail is a bit of a mess. so when this randomly stood out from my pile today i was like ????. in january Interscope (U2's record label) sent out 40 copies of a letter by the edge discussing their newest project: songs of surrender.

these were all attempted to be distributed somewhat equally across the world. i asked one of my U2 friends about it and apparently the people who got this sent to were handpicked and, well, looking at the list i recognize a lot of people who have worked hard in the community or stand out for other reasons.

so to be the only known (30/40 of them are traced to an owner) dutch person to receive one is very ??????? to me but at least i have some credit as a U2 fan, i suppose

(and this is DEFINITELY going to be framed. holy shit?)
