“Bo,” Meian said, “you should bring your boyfriend!”

“Yeah!” Bokuto agreed. It took several seconds for him to follow up with, “I mean, I would, except I don’t have a boyfriend?”

Or, two truths and a lie: 1) Contrary to popular belief, Bokuto Koutaro was not dating his best friend, Akaashi Keiji, 2) he promised to move on from Akaashi ages ago, so 3) it wasn't like he even wanted to date him anyways.

hello!! it’s been a while (deadass i havent written fic since 2019) and i have been in haikyuu hell since 2020, so i decided to give in and write a fic about it.

Seaside Serendipity

Summary: Your accidental beach mishap turns out to be a blessing in disguise. How do you react when Bokuto turns up on your last night of vacation?

Notes: Snippet of Bokuto on beaches! Might do a miniseries of Bokuto vacationing on the beach. Inspired by @scrappyfka ‘s fic on god in a dive bar and is therefore dedicated to Kat.

“Didn’t think I’d catch you here of all places.”

You peel away from your book to turn the direction of a familiar voice. Bokuto Koutaro is standing beside your stool at the bar with his muscular arms folded in front of him.

“Hello to you too,” you smile, closing the book.

You were waiting for your friends in a bar just off the main beach in a resort. The bar is little more than boarded up pieces of wooden furniture and planks and is lit by a trail of yellowish bulbs. It's  near enough from the ocean to hear its ebbs and flows. The night is young and your drink had barely arrived.

After high school, Bokuto went into a Division 1 professional volleyball league, while you decided to pursue graphic design. He had grown taller and had put on more muscle, but he still had that same wide, cheeky boyish grin.

“Are you alone here on vacation?” he asks, ordering a bottle of beer from the bartender and slipping onto the stool beside you.

You shake your head, “I’m here with friends. It’s their last night here. We’re going to have a chill night because they’ll be flying early tomorrow.”

“You’re not flying with them?” he looks surprised.

“There was some miscommunication and I ah-,” you clear your throat and sigh in embarrassment, “booked an extra night.”

Bokuta laughs. His loud, resounding and infectious laughter is still the same. You can’t help but smile. It’s been so long since you last heard him like that.

“What about you? What brings you here?” you ask casually, taking a sip of your drink. You lean in closer and he doesn’t pull away. His warm skin is so close to yours.

He quirks his head, his eyes carefully tracing your features, “I’m taking some time off with a couple of my teammates. They’ll be here in a bit.”

You hear voices call his name. He turns to his back to see Miya Atsumu and Hinata Shoyo waving at him, gesturing towards the ocean.

“Hey, are you doing anything tomorrow? Wanna catch up? ” he asks, holding up a hand to his friends. You make your decisions quickly knowing he’ll be gone for the rest of the evening.

“I might do some snorkeling tomorrow but I’d love to.” you smile. His face is so close to yours you can see every inch of his ecstatic reaction.

“We’re staying at a cottage with a stairway to the ocean. You should drop by in the morning for a swim. The sunrise is great.” he beams. You're  definitely going to take up the offer.

He makes his way to his friends, but just before they leave, he winks at you.

“See you tomorrow then.” he waves.

A day with Bokuto? Your extra day might not be so lonely after all.
