synopsis: after returning to your childhood town 10 years later, you found the once bright streets & bustling town under the warm orange shade of sun turn completely into a place which only exists in those thriller movies you watched for the sake of the adrenaline rush. this town has been now been infiltered by the Crimson Saints, a bikers gang lead by kwon soonyoung―the newly appointed leader after the mysterious death of the previous one―choi seungcheol, also widely known as the founding member of Crimson Saints. nobody`s really sure about how he died but soonyoung has always been the closest one to hang out with him. a new member gets recently added named jeon wonwoo, known as one of the top student of the most prestigious school of the town. a sudden change from the maternal side of the jeon household taunts wonwoo to join the gang but tension always appear in the air between soonyoung & wonwoo whenever they`re in one single space which really didn`t prickle anyone`s skin until―you come in.

Ok so this anime season is barren as fuck

(A. K. A. Nana’s first impressions)

Kakegurui: Ambitious, but it seems to prioritize shock value, moe and fanservice, kind of like Death Note. Now, I didn’t watch the complete first episode, cause I wasn’t really interested, but Boyfriend liked the manga and didn’t like the anime, so that just cemented my lack of interest. And that’s a bad sign, because it seemed like one of the most interesting series this season. Moving on.

Knight’s & Magic: It’s a disaster. Like the title. No, really, how does one make an isekai (”another world”) light novel stand out as bad among all other isekai LN anime (which, for those of you uninitiated, tend to be fanservice-laden power fantasies for male losers)? Here’s how they achieve such a feat: the main character is killed by a car, replacing the classic truck, but this time no excuse is given. Guy was crossing the street AT A NORMAL PACE and this rando ran him over, the end. Then he was reborn into the royal family in a world where everyone speaks Expospeak exculsively. I’m talking every line explains something the characters already know. And there’s a NARRATOR on top of it, why would they do that. “We dwarves usually choose to go to Smithing school”, “Oh, hello, Mari-neechan, if it isn’t the class president herself”, “We can’t modify the Whatever We Call Mecha Here, you know they’re *explains the basics of how they function*”. That’s the only dialogue they have. Also, they gloss over the entire prologue really quickly, so characters you just got introduced to are giving heartfelt declarations of friendship and loyalty and you can’t even remember their names yet, let alone care about them. Everything’s also very generic; the only novelty is that the mecha are spellcasters. For reasons. But apparently that’s not badass enough for our genius protagonist because he’s already coming up with mods to turn the mecha staves into MAGIC GUNS.

Ahhh... it feels good to get that off my chest.

Tsurezure Children: Meh. It works well enough in 4-koma manga format, but it doesn’t translate well into anime or the staff didn’t put enough thinking into it, so it amounts to a collection of vignettes about different characters, none of them very long or complete and none of them connected to the rest. There’s not enough of anything to get me to care. Maybe next episode? It wasn’t awful, for the most part (one of the vignettes was troubling, not gonna lie).

Aho Girl: This is stupid. The series knows exactly one joke and it will repeat it ad nauseam. The joke is as follows: POV character says something, protagonist misunderstand or finds a stupid solution because she’s an idiot (that’s the title), POV character reacts with shock. Congratulations, you’ve watched the entirety of the anime. There’s also some fanservice, apparently.

Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou: This one looks decent. A series of unfortunate events forces protagonist-san to move into an apartment complex where most residents (and the landlord) are fantastical creatures. The first episode spent all its time introducing the characters and setting up the circumstances, so nothing much actually got to happen, but it looks like charming magical realism slice-of-life so far. Other than the annoying secondary character, it looks worth giving a chance.

Nana Maru San Batsu: Ok, I’m actually liking this one. It promises to be something like Kabukibu! (maybe I should make another post about the previous season. I LOVE KABUKIBU!!), fun, sometimes touching, about everyday life with a coolness touch... I actually have no idea how to describe it. But it’s about a shy loser boy who joins a quiz games club and meets a colorful array of characters who’ll probably teach him to overcome his flaws or whatever. If only they hadn’t decided to introduce him to the secondary character by having him see her panties accidentally as she fell, and to bring up this fact five times afterwards in the same episode, it would have been perfect. I’m gonna watch this one. I have to watch something.

Other than that, I’m waiting for Ballroom e Youkoso!, a sports anime about ballroom dancing (maybe riding on the success of Yuri on Ice!?, and Vatican Kiseki Chousakan, about miracle investigators from the Vatican, which promises to be insane. If all else fails, there’s always older anime to catch up on, plus Boku no Hero Academia and Sakura Quest which continue from last season.
