VALENTINES DAY (Pamalandong Entry #7)
Valentines Day is not about "flowers and chocolates". It is all about “how we live our life lovingly”. Karong adlawa, makita nato ang daghang pagpadayag sa gugma. Mga pungpong nga bulak nga imong gihatag, uban sa matam-is nga mga pulong nga imong gipadayag. Mga nangalimyon nga pahumot nga imong gi regalo, ug mga chocolate nga may pataban nga I love you.

If you’re a fan of dining with breathtaking views and don’t mind a bit of an extra journey, Lambojon Terraces La Canopée is the perfect place for you in Siquijor.
La Canopée Bar and Restaurant is a hidden gem perched atop a mountain, providing diners with unparalleled views of Siquijor’s lush natural landscape and the glistening sea below. Nestled amidst the verdant surroundings, this enchanting eatery offers more than just delicious cuisine—it’s an immersive experience that allows guests to reconnect with nature while indulging in delectable dishes.
Whether you’re sipping on a refreshing cocktail or savoring a sumptuous meal, every moment spent at La Canopée is enriched by the breathtaking scenery that surrounds you. It’s the perfect destination for those seeking both culinary delights and soul-stirring vistas in the heart of Siquijor.
BuCafe or Bukid Cafe is a sustainable mountain side cafe and restaurant overlooking the mountainous area of Siquijor Island stretching to the ocean. It’s about ten minutes away from the closest main road. From the exterior, I could already tell that the cafe is nature-themed as it is evidently made of natural and local materials, predominantly bamboo. The structure reminded me of nipa kiosks, very common to have in a Filipino yard to entertain guests or to have a siesta.
There are shared tables overlooking the views as well as tables a bit far from the edge. If the seats are all occupied on the main floor, you can head downstairs for more seats and tables. The seats on the edge of the lower floor of the cafe requires you to sit on the floor and has a ledge for the legs to rest on.
Once seated, you can enjoy the view of Siquijor. It’s mostly greenery and the sea, but it was really beautiful and relaxing. We went there in the middle of the afternoon, but I think the place would be really beautiful during sunset.
From the islands of Siargao, to Siquijor, Cebu, and Bohol and across Asia, Shaka is probably one of our go to places. I've talked about Shaka in my other previous blogs, and this place really needs no further explanation. The food and drinks are refreshing, healthy, and surprisingly filling. We spent an hour just chilling here, and we had a good nap hearing the sound of the waves.
One consistent thing about Siquijor – the people emanate a positive energy and again were uber friendly.
Baha Ba’r (literally meaning “Flood Bar”) is nestled in the heart of Maite village, 1km south of San Juan town and 8km from Siquijor port. It is a restaurant / bar designed and built to reflect the traditional island wood designs with hints of the commonly seen Spanish influences and stone structures.
Baha Ba’r has a “loungey” informal laid-back atmosphere that welcomes overseas visitors and locals alike. It prides itself on having an extensive tapas style menu that permits you to experience the best flavours of the Philippines and great cocktail drinks menu. It is a wonderfully arranged wooden house with a discrete, chic atmosphere. Food is great!
Rum Bar is a sanctuary in its own right for people who want to disconnect from the frenzy of everyday life. It is well known for being the best place to relax on the beach while enjoying a wide selection of music. The bar prides itself on having a wide range of songs for any mood: whether you are in the mood for relaxing music to accompany you while you admire the sunset or livelier tunes to party until dawn.
We went here because we had a really fun time in Rumbar in Siargao. It did not disappoint.

FLASH REPORT THIS AFTERNOON: DACCA Student and Negrosanon Youth Singer 'Kim Aninon Hewitt' won Grand Champion of 'Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids' finals [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
(Written by Andrea Davenport & Rhayniel Saldasal Calimpong / Regional Correspondent and Senior News Editor of Disney XD News & Freelance News Writer, Reporter and Presenter of OneNETnews)
VALENCIA, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- In a triumph that echoes the melody of dreams… Kim Aninon Hewitt, a 10 y/o Negrosanon youth singer from Valencia town in Negros Oriental, and a local elementary student at Dumaguete Agape Chinese Christian School (DACCA) has managed to win the hearts of many with his ongoing achievement as he is now became a Grand Champion, during the 2nd Season finale of 'Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids' grand finals, a prestigious national singing competition in the Philippines, hosted by the iconic noontime show "It's Showtime" from 'ABS-CBN Studio 10' in Quezon City, Manila on the Kapamilya Channel (known as ABS-CBN in Metro Manila on DWWX-TV Channel 2, along with one relay regional station in Dumaguete City via DYMA-TV Channel 12) last Saturday afternoon (April 20th, 2024 -- Valencia local time).
His every renditions note was as though it carried his audience for the Filipinos into realm of melodies and music. He won 1st place, part of Grand Champion's role because of these talented youth performances. It was through this gripping performance that he became one of the biggest stars in Philippine music scene especially after millions across the country and around the world watched him sing through 'Kapamilya Online LIVE' (KOL) on YouTube.
Not long ago, Hewitt set off on their 'Daily Rounds' adventure, striving to secure a place in the upcoming semi-finals on Tuesday (January 30th, 2024). With a previous outstanding performance, Mr. Hewitt achieved a resounding score of 97%, guaranteeing him the coveted 1st Place position. As the daily winner among the talented young contenders, he received a cash prize of PHP10,000 (which is almost U$D174 bucks). While Ms. Safhia Chanel Legaspi from Tagbilaran, Bohol scored 95% in 2nd Place, and Ms. Arien Kristine Manzano from Bacoor, Cavite also scored to 93%. Both losing kid contenders between Legaspi and Manzano will receive individual consolation prizes worth PHP5,000 (or almost U$D87).
Fortunately in the midst of the Weekly Finals, Mr. Hewitt faced elimination on Saturday (February 3rd, 2024) but displayed resilience and determination, earning his spot in the final 'Resbakbakan' on Friday (April 19th, 2024) before advancing to the highly anticipated Grand Finals, or so what is being called 'Ang Huling Tapatan'.
As previously reported on February 16th, 2024… Mr. 'Patrick James Chua', who is a Negrosanon amateur singer from the Bacong town in a said province, and the Dumaguete City National High School (DCNHS) student lose 3rd Place spot in the 3rd week of Daily Rounds at this abovementioned national singing competition. His personal statement released on their Facebook status post (owned by Meta Platforms Inc.): "I was sad after that moment because I truly wanted to bring in my home town to bring pride to Bisaya. But I realize it won't stop to pursue my dreams even if I failed many times. I will keep on singing until I got my dreams right. I hope you will stay with me for my next opportunity contests (in Negros Oriental). I also want to inspired other people specially the young ones like me that chasing your dreams may not be always as easy if you fail. Just keep pushing until you succeed to yourself", Mr. Chua said.
The Negrosanon youth singer 'Kim Aninon Hewitt' plans to make new strategies for singing in the private rehearsals to perfect, and executing final preparations of 'Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids' grand finals.
But, have you ever wondered about that Negrosanon kid behind the spotlight of Mr. Hewitt? A glimpse into his Facebook profile (owned by Meta Platforms Inc. or MPi) from our independent research team of OneNETnews reveals a young talent with a passion for music and a drive to excel in his craft. Hewitt's journey showcases from amateur singer into rising star. Videos were shared online to feature the local & national performances, and updates on his musical endeavors on social media. His dedication to his new song artist and relentless pursuit of excellence have undoubtedly paid off, leading him to its astounding victory.
The best part, a climactic moment arrived in the final showdown, Hewitt delivered powerful renditions of Queen's "Too Much Love Will Kill You" (advancing in the Top 3 to start it off) and Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" (in the final Top 3 performance round), leaving a lasting impression on the judges and viewers alike. He was sounded like 'Jackson 5', before it became the next solo artist of the late-'Michael Joseph Jackson'.
But in the end before commenting to judges like Mr. Pure Energy named 'Gary Santiago Valenciano', before revealing the final Top 3 results, he was having issues to speak dialects of 'Tagalog' and 'Cebuano', and only speaks 'Philippine English'. Along the way, his soulful voice and stage presence set him apart from the competition, yet earning him a well-deserved Grand Champion title.
For now, all 5 kid contenders who were participated in the Grand Finals are now eliminated and going home for nothing, leaving only the final remaining Top 3 spot calls on stage. The final and official Top 3 results revealed exclusively to OneNETnews, with 'Kim Aninon Hewitt' from Valencia, Negros Oriental -- emerging as the Grand Champion winner of 'Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids' with a score of 96.7%. Alongside him, 'Dydrae Lavayne "Dylan" Genicera' followed closely from Pagbilao, Quezon; who is scored at 96.6%, and 'Aliyah Gonzalo Quijoy' from Kawit, Cavite also scored last at 96.5%, claiming both the 2nd and 3rd Placers respectively.
As the Grand Champion winner, Hewitt will receive a management contract from 'ABS-CBN Music Management Group', a learning and home showcase from Abenson (an online e-commerce Appliance Superstore) worth PHP300,000 (or nearly U$D5,211) and a grand prize of PHP500,000 (or nearly U$D8,685) for 1st Place. 2nd Place receives a learning and home showcase from the said online e-commerce appliance superstore worth PHP100,000 (roughly U$D1,737) and a consolation prize to PHP200,000 (roughly U$D3,474). While 3rd Placer ends to receive a learning and home showcase from also the said online e-commerce appliance superstore, and taking home for the last consolation prize to PHP100,000 each (equivalent both to PHP200,000).
Speaking of rich-like appliance consumers, Abenson in Dumaguete City is currently preparing to open a new branch at Real Street, just across from the intersection between Philippine National Bank (PNB) and the upper Silliman Avenue. This authentic branch will be ready to serve you soon within the next few to several years.
His celestial victory is not only by himself (like Mr. Hewitt) but also for the people of Valencia municipal town, the school of DACCA and a whole Negros Oriental province. His absolute triumph serves as a beacon of hope for young aspiring song artists around the world, showing them that with dedication, hard work and a great deal of talent, their dreams can come true and they can launch their own signing career.
The future looks bright for this talented Negrosanon youth singer, which may potentially soon producing local music in Cebuano dialect like 'Enchi' for example in most concerts and events in Central Visayas, and the world can't wait to see what he has in store next.
Congratulations to Mr. Kim Aninon Hewitt on this well-deserved victory! We are proud to serve a better Negrosanon community, per the representative of The City of Gentle People.

The island of Bohol in the Philippines, is the best holiday destination. The place is home to one of the most famous Chocolate Hills in Carmen where hundreds of brown hills create an interesting scenic view, looking like little mountains of chocolates scattered within 50 kilometers square area. The most interesting thing about the hills is that the hills which are usually covered in green grass turn chocolaty in color during dry seasons which is amazing.

time for a history lesson kids
Iso anyway after 9 years of waiting (oh god) my dreams came true and hetalia finally has my country featured. And my first instinct is to draw a precolonial Philippines and then headcanon the shit out of it based on all my readings
i knew an Anthropology degree was gonna be useful someday
so anyway head canon history lesson time. gather round kids. I took this college program for a reason:
I feel like the recent Philippines would be born post 1565 after Miguel Lopez de Lagzpi. That boy must be a considered Mestizo ( mixed-race individuals, who were born from intermarriages of the Spaniards and merchants with the indigenous Filipino (Austronesian/Malay/Malayo-Polynesian) natives)
But let’s assume he is an Indio (who somehow lost all his tattoos?? oh well) then there’s an angsty and slightly badass headcanon that he actually killed absorbed all the other representatives from other tribes. they don’t die easily (unless harmed by economic struggles/or i guess hurt by fellow representatives) so it kinda explains the whole Bayani concept of undefeatable heroes. (we love our epics about heroes don’t we?)
That said! (our precolonial ancestors’ history is pretty badass tbh and very brutal. i wouldn’t put it past him to actually have killed all the other reps. We literally have a headhunting sport haha) let’s get on to the cultural aspects shall we?
I based most of this from the Boxer Codex’s illustrations which probably is centered around Visayas and Manila settlements for obvious reasons that they were found first. (they deteriorated first too :’) but since I’m from Visayas, the info i can give you are better off being in Visayas (also he has a tarsier lmao. mostly found in bohol. i hc him to be in Visayas. I’m sorry)
the obvious parts here are the tattoos which if you think looks kinda like the one in Moana, you’re right. it is (somewhat) we may also have descended from the same Austronesian ethnicity from Taiwan or China (most SEA countries did actually. there are many conflicting theories for this and most of you guys learned the Otley-Beyer’s wave migration theory WHICH IS WRONG PLEASE FORGET ABOUT THAT SHIT. IT’S VERY RACIST. something about calling negritos inferior because of the technology sits very wrong. throw that multi linear cultural evolution thoughts away and say fuck you to Morgan and Lewis and also say fuck you to DepEd for not changing it. anyway
the point is virgin Otley Beyer, chad Peter Bellwood. Listen to Austronesian Wave Migration theory (you’d find this evident in the way southeast asians to melanasia and pacific islanders share linguistic similarities. i can’t find that teletubbies salamat meme
but let’s talk about pre-col culture because I’m rambling now. everyone probably knows that tattoos are a symbol of social roles from your HEKASI lessons. they are the Pintados. It’s a sacred tradition where you earn them at every achievement. you start at your legs and trail up to your face. the ones on the chest that look like breastplates are awarded after you win a head from the head hunting (which yeah they think of the head as a holy place too so they eat it, thinking they’ll consume its holiness) the face tattoos are for the greatest warriors (and seeing he’s an immortal country, he would have face tattoos) different tribes have different patterns, but you usually either see snake patterns or sea patterns (thus the zigzag)
fun fact: cebuanos were very ruthless pirates haha. we are voyagers my dude. we devised long ranged boats way before sailing was a major thing. much like in moana. you can see traces of it in the traditional fishing boats with those braces on the side to keep balance. it’s cool. point is, water is a very large way of life. (i think you also earn a tattoo from sailing but I’m not sure)
the deep red dye is an honor given only to the bravest warriors. the longer your putong or headdress is,the braver you are. we also used gold like it was nothing. (magellan had to stop his crew from trading their stuff into gold haha) we used it everyday and even placed them in our teeth. (YES WE HAD DENTISTRY BACK THEN) our art and aesthetics believe in the pride of our bodies thus we decorate it, believing we are past primitive thoughts by modifying the human body. so we didn’t care about property, we cared about our appearance. we are also culturally expected to strut our new tattos and piercings with pride. speaking of piercings men and women were expected to pierce their ears and wear large ass earrings.
the precolonial cebuano is a showman (and we still are). you show off these accessories with finesse. you need to live the art. walk and make those golden bracelets jingle. so if you feel like being dramatic, that’s the spirit of your ancestors encouraging you to be dramatic hahaha
(funny enough the ye olden people thought the spanish were poor and backward for not ornamenting their bodies.only a monkey would have white teeth like that and undecorated skin! yeah love how we chismis like that way back then too)
one last side note. we wore cock rings/piercings too as status symbols okay bye
anyway I have more to talk about pre-col phippines. we haven’t touched gender roles (pre-col philippines would also be very chill about gayness and transwomen are even venerated into priestess positions. it’s all cool so pre-col philippines is definitely not cis haha and probably chill about not being straight yay indophil)
anyway yeah
#hetalia#hetalia world stars#hws asean#hws philippines#hws indophil#pre-colonial philippines#i really wrote this instead of my essay huh

2021
It’s already 2022, and I’m not sure if I consider 2021 my year or not. Nevertheless I am still thankful I got through and that I am still sane, safe, and able.
2021 sure gave me lots of ups and downs. I started the year with a broken heart to say the least (looking back i’m so proud i made it through). I really wasn’t myself towards the beginning of the year, but I’m glad I slowly built myself up again slowly through the months. Along the way I also experienced many different things, good or bad. It’s not as eventful as I thought it would be, tho. To recap how my 2021 went~
2021 Recap
Started the year with a heartache, ended it with a healed heart (to which i thought i wouldn’t get over with)
New work, higher pay, but ended up not liking the company haha. Still employed there as of writing
Rented a condo near work where I stayed and lived alone a couple of times. Good experience coz of independence, bad because I got homesick, plus magastos rin
Found new hobbies! Did crochet (I was able to make a beanie and a cardigan) and tried to learn the guitar (verdict is the guitar isn’t for me, piano talaga hay)
Introduced myself to yoga. What a spiritual and mental awakening for me. Started doing beginner level
Introduced myself to a philosophy: Stoicism. Something I wanna master and use as my principle in life
Met new great friends; mostly at work. Some through IG
Watched so many great movies and series (so far my faves for the year, new or old, are: Pride and Prejudice, Succession, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Eat Pray Love, Her)
First travel out of NCR with the family since lockdown - Tagaytay
Barkada outing in Tagaytay as well
Bohol trip got cancelled after so much anticipation and excitement. Biggest let down of the year
Tried simbang gabi twice; one in UST, one in Mt. Carmel. Good experience as its been a long time since I last attended mass physically. Spiritual awakening as well
Went to Subic instead for Christmas. Had a great time, got my tan after 2 years of not experiencing the beach
Got my second tattoo! Lotus flower on my right tricep. Aside from it being my birth flower, it also symbolizes purity and that there beauty can still grow in the dirtiest (bad) surroundings
Spent the new year with extended family in Manila
Not much but I guess it went pretty well compared to 2020. And I hope the same for 2022. I have not fully processed everything actually, let alone bid a proper goodbye to 2021, but should it really be the case?
Anyway adios to 2021! Twas good while it lasted. On to the next! ♡

Lots of good answers in the P department haha I am one happy foodie. I Know Someone Who’s (jobs): Professor, politician, pilot, pediatrician, photographer, photojournalist, TV and radio producer, psychologist. I Wouldn’t Mind Visiting: Portugal, Philadelphia, Portland, Phnom Penh, Pyongyang, Prague. I wanna go back to Palawan, too. Sometimes I Feel: Pained, pathetic, panicky, pleasure.
Music I Listen To: PARAMOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE. Also Panic! at the Disco. Movies I’ve Seen: Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Pulp Fiction, Paris When It Sizzles, Panic Room, Paranormal Activity, Passion of the Christ, Phantom of the Opera, The Purge, Pinocchio. Names I Like: Pilar, Pippa, Paulette, Patrice, Portia, Pia. And now, onto the random questions! 1. Do you prefer pens or pencils? Pens, for sure. I don’t like how pencil writing can be erased and that you have to keep sharpening them. 2. Pretzels, popcorn, or potato chips? I’d go with the chips. I always felt like pretzels were too salty for my liking and I just hate chewing popcorn. 3. What do you like on your pizza? Four kinds of cheese ;) Hahaha I also love me a good barbecue pizza with barbecue chicken and sauce. 4. When was the last time you felt puzzled? Earlier when my mom was asking me and my dad for help making a Facebook caption but was rejecting all of our suggestions. 5. Parrots, parakeets, pelicans, peacocks, penguins, pigeons, or puffins? Ooh I love these birds but I’ll have to go with penguins. Have y’all seen that penguin documentary narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch where he kept saying the word ‘penguin’ wrong every time? Penglings, pengwings, penwangs...it’s so hilarious and so so adorable lmao. Anyway, this is a very long way to just say penguins lol. 6. Favorite way to eat potatoes? (potato salad, scalloped, baked, etc) French fries and mojos. 7. Would you ever like to meet the Pope? I’d love to meet the current one; he actually already paid the Philippines a trip around four years ago. He seems much more accepting of taboo topics than the past popes. 8. Have you ever felt like punching, pushing, or pinching someone before? I’ve felt like doing all three to different people, yes. 9. Which parades have you been to? Pride March, most recently. When I was a kid my mom and grandma also made me a part of a parade that my local community was having for Holy Week. 10. Did you ever collect pine cones as a kid? No, I don’t think we have those here. 11. Do you believe that pennies on the ground are good luck? I wouldn’t be able to relate; we don’t have pennies. 12. How many pillows do you sleep with? Two. I lay my head on one and I cuddle with one. If I don’t have a cuddle pillow it’s like 3x harder for me to fall asleep. 13. Do you have any plants in your room? Hell no, haha. I’ve tried before, but I’m just awful at looking out for them. 14. Pink or purple? Pink, though purple was my childhood favorite because it had been my great-grandma’s favorite. 15. Favorite kind of pie? I don’t like pie as a whole but I will eat the shit out of pie crusts. 16. What’s the last package that you received? My dad bought a pack of those thingies that you stick to your car so that you can stick your phone on them so that it’s eazier to use GPS apps. 17. Do you like Peeps at Easter? Tried Peeps once. Wasn’t a fan. Probably won’t enjoy it at Easter either. 18. Peanuts, pine nuts, pistachios, or pecans? Pistachios. 19. Pears, peaches, plums, papayas, pomegranates, or persimmons? Heh, it’s a pass forme. 20. Pumpkins, peppers, peas, or parsnip? Peppers. 21. Do you like to paint? What? I like paint-by-number kits, but I’m definitely not an artist who can paint stuff from scratch on a blank canvas. 22. When’s the last time you felt puzzled? What about? Earlier tonight; I explained it a while ago. 23. Have you ever been called a prude before? Nope. 24. Have you ever been on a plane before? Where did you go? Yes, many times. Overseas-wise it was me headed to China, Singapore, and Indonesia. It’s a longer list if I also did local but I’ll try – Batanes, Bohol, Palawan, Cebu, Aklan, Bicol, Camarines Sur...and I’m sure there’s a couple more that I’m missing. 25. How often do you use paper clips? Not often. I prefer staplers. [a-zebra-is-a-striped-horse]

Located inside the botanical garden where Donatela Hotel’s tasteful, charismatic villas are located, Tarsier Paprika sits atop a cliff, overlooking the great Bohol Sea beyond. It is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque restaurants in Bohol, a place you’d surely recommend to others because of their exceptional service, quality food, and unparalleled ambience.
This makes it ideal for partners and friends alike who would like to witness a gorgeous view of the sun setting against the shimmering waters of the sea. With Tarsier Paprika’s world-class flavors backdropped against a romantic landscape of al fresco dining, no wonder this fine dining restaurant has been the go-to place of those seeking solace in the arms of Panglao Island. We were lucky that this place was only a few minutes away from our hotel.
It’s best to be seated outdoors because of the view and the atmosphere, but they also have a room if you wish to be seated indoors. While waiting for your order, you can walk along the beach side path by going down the stairs; there, you’ll see the Bohol Sea up close and personal.
For our last meal in Bohol, we ate at Moss. From the moment you step into Moss, you’ll be captivated by the stunning interior design that blends modern aesthetics with traditional elements. The carefully curated decor, ambient lighting, and comfortable seating arrangement create an inviting and sophisticated atmosphere.
The attention to detail and the flavors in every dish were remarkable. They take pride in using only the freshest and finest ingredients sourced locally to ensure the highest quality in every dish. Whether you’re a seafood lover, a meat enthusiast, or a vegetarian, their diverse menu has something to tantalize every palate. What a way to cap our Bohol trip!

The hospitality of Filipinos is incomparable to the rest of the world.
Filipinos have been known to be amazingly friendly to strangers. They treat visitors, foreigners, or guests as if they have known them already. Hospitality seems to be a Filipino identity. Whether people will like it or not, one cannot deny but admit the truth once he or she visits the Philippines. Well, it is a pride of every Filipino in the country and abroad. Tourists would even make comments regarding Filipinos’ hospitality during their vacations or wherever in the country they would be fooling around.
“as others say, do not be foreigners in your own country”
So what are you waiting for? come and visit PHILIPPINES.

Bohol's Pride🌌
By: Mariz C. Suficiencia
My grandmother Narcisa P. Suficiencia ages 87 years old now had a tradition every last week of the month of march to go home where she was born and raised to celebrate their family reunion and death anniversary of their loving parents in Bohol Island located in Visayas. Last 2016 because of her age she decided to go there with me as her hand to help and watch over her. It results as one of my memorable vacation because I enjoyed a lot. I experienced my first ride in airplane and ship. I also knew and met my relatives there.
But the highlights of my vacation was to seen and encountered how ablazing their pride there the "chocolate hills", those are rare geological formation and cone-shaped hills, they are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season. It is one of the Philippine's top tourist attraction. Chocolate hills are located in Carmen bohol and said to be equivalent to 1, 268 wonderful hills. On our way there we stop and took some pictures in "man made forest" located in Loboc, these forest features are 2 kilometer stretch of mahogany trees.
The scenery was enough to take my breath away and one word to describe it, is wonderful! I wonder how really best artist our God is. He never fail to amaze His children in His masterpieces!

The Chocolate Hills of Bohol, Philippines
What makes the Chocolate Hills famous?
Curious why it’s called the Chocolate Hills when it’s not really made of chocolates.? It’s because these hills, which are usually covered in green grass, dry up and turn chocolatey brown in color during the dry season. There are more than a thousand hills spread over an area of 50 square kilometers in the towns of Carmen, Batuan, and Sagbayan in Bohol. And, while the hills do vary in size, looking at these from afar, it seems like they’re almost symmetrical in shape. This results in a majestic landscape that might make you think it’s a man-made creation.
The story behind the origins of the pride of the Visayan Region is no exception. According to legends, the hills came into existence because of two feuding giants who hurled rocks, boulders, and sand at each other.
After their fight was over, this eventually led to a huge mess of hills – which is the Chocolate Hills we know today. Another legend claims what really transpired was a heartbroken giant cried a lot of tears which led to the formation of these limestone hills. The third legend though is hard to imagine for some – they say these hills were dried feces of carabaos.
How the hills came to be
Setting aside the three legends mentioned above, the widely accepted geological theory behind this strange formation is that the hills were the result of the weathering of marine limestone. The dissolution of limestone thousands of years ago was affected by several factors, such as rainfall and subaerial erosion. According to a plaque displayed at a viewing deck in the town of Carmen, these geological formations were the result of erosion of limestones which were uplifted above sea level and fractured due to tectonic processes. Another explanation claims that the hills were previously coral reefs that erupted after a geologic shift beneath the waters.
The best time and place to see the Chocolate Hills
Of course, you will want to see the hills when they’re chocolate brown in color – which is the dry season in the Philippines. This season begins in late November and lasts until May. However, it’s still best to check for weather updates when traveling in the Philippines because weather often gets unpredictable.
As for the place where you could get the best view of the hills, there are two areas that should be considered: the viewing deck of the Chocolate Hills Complex in Carmen, and Sagbayan Peak.

The beauty of living in a tropical country ❤️
We just celebrated our anniversary at Bohol, Philippines. :) We stayed at South Palms resort and stayed for a couple of days.
Thank you my love for this getaway. ❤️ As I’ve mentioned before, we normally celebrate our anniversaries in a low-maintenance way haha we just go out for a dinner date, talk about our anniversary topic and that’s it. This year we originally planned to just go on a staycation at a nearby hotel, maiba lang. But my husband asked me to look for a place na medyo malayo naman haha fortunately Bohol is now open for tourists and their travel requirements have become simple na din. Vax ID and valid ID lang and you’re good to go. :) Ayaw ko talaga mag effort if madami pa requirements like swab and other docs. Kaya nung nalaman namin na simplified na, we booked our plane tickets na mid-march 😁
Nag ask yung friend ko why sa Bohol eh nakapunta na kami dito before. Di naman ako heavy traveler no, but I find Bohol to be the most convenient place among all my choices. Simplified na din travel requirements nila, sa El Nido for example, need pa din ng swab and QR. Sa Bohol, again, vax id lang, oks ka na. Also, resorts in Panglao are just 10 to 15 mins away from the new Panglao international airport. 30 mins away sa Tagbilaran which is the city center. Few mins away lang din sya sa Alona beach. And an hour away lang from man-made forest and chocolate hills. It’s clean, tourist spots and beach resorts are close to each other, not crowded and no heavy traffic pa! Perfect for laidback type na trip. :)
We rented a Yamaha scooter (NMax) we thought it would be fun to see Bohol on 2 wheels naman. Unfortunately, maulan! Ang itinerary namin is mag road trip hanggang man-made forest, but hangang Bohol Bee Farm lang kami nakarating dahil biglang umulan. Yung helmet na provided nila is pang bike kaya walang visor, ang hirap makakita pag umuulan. After namin maglunch, bumalik na din kami ng resort. Nag nap si J and saka kami nagswimming ulit. Haha my husband so kyot dahil lagi sya nag nap sa trip na ito hahahaha sabi nya dun lang sya narelax kasi. Praise God bec we have angels na sa store and pwede na silang iwan! Hehe so sila muna in charge while away kami. Kaya si J, free din ang mind kaya sa sobrang relax nya nakaka-nap siya sa mga tambay namin sa beach while nagread din ako ng tinitipid tipid kong libro. Haha! Nagandahan ako sa book kaya i thought maganda ito basahin while nasa vacation kami, kaya ni-pause ko muna and dito sa vacation ko na namin tinuloy. :)
There are several beach destinations in the Philippines. We are blessed to be an hour/few hours away from these beauties. :) My prayer is that many people will be able to see and enjoy the beauty of our country, and more importantly, I pray that these destinations will always be preserved and protected. ❤️
I thank God for our beautiful country. I also praise God for allowing us to celebrate our wedding anniversary and of course, for blessing our marriage since day one! I’ve learned a lot since I got married. I’ve discovered myself more and I also get to appreciate my husband more. :) We are not perfect, we’ve failed each other many times, but marriage is sooo beautiful when you have Christ in the center of it. ❤️ My greatest advice about marriage is to run away from being too prideful! Sabi nga, marriage is a union of two forgivers. 😁 So be humble, obey God and you’ll surely see His mighty works in your relationships!
Have a wonderful weekend!
