Webcomic Recc Week 2

This beautiful piece is a rework of one of the first GJS illustrations!

It’s hiatus: Week 2, and time to tell you about another gorgeous webcomic. This one’s called Ghost Junk Sickness. While the Ghost is a fashionable shapeshifting menace featured heavily in this epic tale, there doesn’t appear to be any Junk Sickness. Unless... here's looking at you, Boggmouth!

Created by Studio CARTRIDGE, a team of sisters named Krispy & Space, who are based out of Ontario, Canada -this story follows a pair of interstellar bounty hunters with a troublesome relationship, while the spectre of the “Ghost” haunts them in the background. They, like many unfortunates before them, are drawn to the hefty bounty, as the elusive Ghost is worth a whopping 600,000 triens! Life changing cash for Trigger & Vahn.

Trigger is, as his name suggests, a grumbly, gun-toting hardass, and he travels across the universe in search of sweet, sweet cash with his soft-spoken friend, Vahn Gavotte. Vahn is a more upbeat, feminine sort who is trying desperately to look on the bright side. They have some crazy markings nobody understands, and their tiny frame can easily brace a colossal energy gun that they use to destroy their foes. Curious, indeed.

Mecha battles, planet apocalypses, kidnappings, big ol’ lizards, a corrupt interstellar military, leg-lobbings, murder, and more– Ghost Junk Sickness will throw you through a tonal loop, and it's so much fun. Some parts of it feel like a “monster of the week” type of format, where each chapter is a self-contained episode. This storytelling style graciously shows us a window into all aspects of CARTRIDGE's universe, peering into the lives of friend and foe, bitter and sweet. Every member of the huge cast gets their time to shine.

GJS is a black and white behemoth, spanning 7 years of updates. It has 18 chapters and 1000+ pages that will keep you satisfied for weeks of binge time. At least, that’s how long it took me to read it, and I was devouring the damn thing. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous, confident, and intensely emotional.

Read it for Fiachra. She is mean and big and strong and powerful and oh dear I may be biased.

If you like Hunter X Hunter’s massive, sprawling universe, Vash the Stampede’s mysterious superpowers from Trigun, and all the space-faring adventure of Cowboy Bebop, you’ll love Ghost Junk Sickness.

Krispy also helped put together the wonderful Webcomic Resources blog, which, as the name suggests, is invaluable if you are a comic creator. It is full of useful information I reference often. She is also part of the team for the Webcomic-centric podcast SCREEN TONES.

Aaaa Well, I have two main characters in Foxes with Machine Guns, so I guess I'll go with Zane! Since Ren isn't very happy... Um, without spoilers, Zane was very excited to find traces of a fox in the woods! He's autistic, and his special interest is foxes, so when he realized he might be able to actually see one he was so happy! That's why he's in the woods in the first place. Sorry I don't have much to go on, my comic just started so I don't have many non-spoiler things to talk about! QwQb

Cap’n Lee (Flowerlark Studios)

These are the hard-hitting questions that make me realise how dark my comics are. I... I can't think of an event I threw at my characters that made them really happy. I think the closest was when my FMC in Dark Wings: Eryl (https://www.flowerlarkstudios.com/dark-wings-2/) discovered that SPOILER the dragon she thought had been murdered was still alive. SPOILER END But I'm not sure I'd categorise that as happy per say; it was closer to relief.(edited)

The characters in Joe Is Dead are always sad because the story is about the death of their friend. Maybe the first chapter?

Jeez... in Phantomarine (http://www.phantomarine.com/) my heroine has had one fleeting moment of success, only to be followed by the biggest ‘GOTCHA’ I could muster. She’s still in very bad shape so her true happiness is still a little ways off. But... that’s kinda the crux of the story. Being emotionally or physically busted, and finding a way to come back from it - slowly, gently, maybe not even entirely. She’ll find her happiness someday. I wanna draw her smiling again.

I think the most sincerely happy I've so far shown Merlow (in Court of Roses https://courtofroses.spiderforest.com/) is when he first looks upon the Bardic Festival. https://courtofroses.spiderforest.com/index.php?comic_id=84 In the chapter before, he tells Nocturne about how music is his passion and he wants to hear everyone's song, and to see so many songs joined in one place... pure joy. Absolute joy. ...probably the most and purest joy he's had in a long, long while.

Since we can post our @ghostjunksickness guest art in full now, here's mine!

Since Boggmouth loves heavy metal, I decided no better than to have fun "homaging" one of the classic metal albums, Judas Priest's "PAINKILLER"

The original painter is Mark Wilkinson, hence my credit on my art. His site is the masque dot com (thanks tumblr for making us have to do old school linkage)

I was pressed for time for this unfortunately, so I used a method that supposedly cut a lot of time: doing everything in greys (in my case, greys AND warms, by accident) as base values, then scan and color the entire thing, letting the greys "do the work." (My signature was digital.)

I also used white gel pens but I think they didn't make a difference, since after the digital colors heightened them, they look more added on after all was finished. ...Never mind, maybe that's a victory lol Also, it DID cut a whole lotta time haha. Thanks, Adam Hughes XD

Anyway, thanks to @feathernotes and @spacerocketbunny for putting my thing on their site! I'm really glad they enjoyed it <3 (i'm sorry I forgot bogg's tail after I was halfway through finishing, tho :-: )

I caught up on the comic Ghost Junk Sickness and my favorite character is Boggmouth! She is a giant green alien lady and she has very little chill but I still love her very much.⁠  @ghostjunksickness

Alright Krispy, what is Ghost Junk Sickness actually about? You keep yelling about it- Tell us the deats!

It's a comic about two bounty hunters with an unstable dynamic who are pushed to pursue the deadly and elusive bounty, The Ghost- it's about owning up and self acceptance- and it's queer AF ---> 🧵

We've got our first main player, Alphonse 'Trigger' Elliot, a Bi disaster man who uses a nickname to outrun his ex…well, both of his exes! Determined to run away from responsibility, he gets caught up in vicious bounty hunts and taking care of some strange super powered spiky haired amnesiac

In comes Vahn- an overpowered burger loving enby who can't for the life of them remember what really happened 5 years ago- during the apocalypse of course. They're drawn to finding out who that big scary Ghost is, and hey, looks like they pick up a few romance options along the way!

and BUSTIN' DOWN THE DOORS is Boggmouth, Triggers infamous ex- On the hunt for money, fame, and a great pizza place. She gets swept up in this whole Ghost fiasco after catching up with Trigger on a super dangerous hunt to prove a point: Own up to past mistakes or take the L. And boy did Trigger lose

With those three together, navigating the treacherous landscapes of the post apocalyptic-recovering June7, trying to own up to their past, and forge a new future- They encounter many MANY scary and odd things while on the hunt for the ghost. Mainly this guy…. being… horror?

Meet The Medium!

The Medium strikes a deal and is also on a war path to get that damned ghost. Why? Well lets just say its a tad embarrassing for an eldritch god to admit!

Together with a pretty confused 4 armed himbo, The Medium and Nowe make their way to get what they want- While avoiding the General, of course

General Raine Fiachra, the Space French Lady who hails from the prosperous galactic capital planet July, wants all of the prize- and that includes traversing several different universes to claim it. She's interested in the Medium, and Nowe is so annoyingly in her way! We love mean ladies

With this soup of a cast makes a rather roller coaster of a ride for the story of GJS. Trigger owning up to his mistakes, Vahn discovering who they are, Boggs getting closure- and of course, catching that damned bounty The Ghost! What galactic crimes has he commited to earn such a bounty on his head

GJS is a story about self acceptance- all of the parts of you that feel unloved, messy, and want to avoid. It's a story crafted about characters in impossible situations just trying to get by, and what it means to move on from hurt.
