#Repost @thebodyisnotanapology ・・・ Your daily reminder that folks being discarded literally on the side of the road and under bridges and at street intersections, pleading with cardboard signs and living in tent cities (during a global pandemic, no less) and often struggling with untreated trauma, addiction, and severe mental illness — all of that is #BodyTerrorism and a collective abdication of what it means to care for each other on this planet as humans. Another way is possible and was REALITY prior to the white supremacist, settler colonial, cisheteronormative patriarchal takeover of North America and the subsequent capitalist exploitation of land, humans, and non-human animals alike. None of this is normal. Profits should never be our highest aim. #RadicalSelfLove requires a different ethic. We can be different. #Repost @thebodyisnotanapology with @make_repost ・・・ As we continue to hear the gutting testimony each day in Derek Chauvin's murder trial, we find it sadly necessary to repost our article by writer Cicely Blain aimed at white folks and titled "10 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Calling the Police on Black and Brown Bodies". Truly sitting with the items on this list and modifying your behavior accordingly is part of the work of dismantling white supremacy. As Cicely writes, "Maybe by calling the police, you want to see some sort of justice served for something you perceive to be a violation. That won’t happen, as there is no such thing as justice in an unequal system. Death is far too high a price to pay for anything you may deem an inconvenience." Link to full article in our bio.⠀ ⠀ **Note: while TBINAA endorses the ultimate abolition of the police, this article does discuss some scenarios where many folks would feel drawn to calling the police, such as witnessing the use of weapons in life-threatening violence. We support building a world where we've created structures of community care and alternatives to policing such that folks would be able to have more options in similar situations.**⠀ .⠀ .⠀ [image description: on a lime background in cream boxes is the following text in black and grey: "10 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Calling the Police on Black and Brown Bodies | By Cicely Blain for @TheBodyIsNotAnApology | 1. Do I actually see a serious crime taking place? 2. Is this any of my business? 3. Am I making assumptions based on skin colour? 4. What are the repercussions of calling the police? 5. Can this issue be solved without involving the authorities? 6. Do I need to reflect on what I consider “suspicious” or “shady”? 7. Can I live with sending someone to their death? 8. How can I help people instead of hurting them? 9. If police show up, how can I mitigate the harm caused? 10. How can I prevent police violence moving forward?"]⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #TheBodyIsNotAnApology #TBINAA #BodyTerrorism #PoliceBrutality #Whiteness #AntiBlackness #RadicalSelfLove https://www.instagram.com/p/CNKbLTnB3QA/?igshid=schpbokgl517

#Repost @thebodyisnotanapology • • • • • • In her two recent videos in response to the anti-Asian, misogynist, white supremacist terrorist attacks committed in Atlanta, @SonyaReneeTaylor provides an anecdote for the gaslighting currently going around that would have us believe that somehow these acts of violence are not firmly rooted in white supremacy. Sonya asks us to consider the steep levels of violent entitlement required to murder people, to treat marginalized groups of people as disposable, due to having a "bad day". This is what #BodyTerrorism looks like run amok -- but we have the power to collectively dismantle it.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ [image description: quote by Sonya Renee Taylor in white on a dark green background that reads, "Whiteness tells white men that that's what they get to do with their bad days, is kill a bunch of people. And very specifically what they get to do is find the lives of women and find the lives of Asian women and find the lives of sex workers as particularly disposable. And that is a function of the racialized entitlement that is the seat of white supremacist delusion."]⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #TheBodyIsNotAnApology #TBINAA #SonyaReneeTaylor #StopAsianHate #Whiteness #BodyTerrorism https://www.instagram.com/p/CMnCK8xFvOpcqSCJZezyNT-SRAT7Mc-O8wTyNs0/?igshid=41en350m7939

Reposted from @thebodyisnotanapology Instagram took down our repost of this quote by Martin Luther King, Jr., posted ON MLK’s birthday, for being “hate speech”. If that doesn’t prove the enduring virulence of white supremacy that Dr. King lost his life as a result of, we don’t know what does... well, that or the Capitol coup!! Reposting again, because fighting for liberation against #BodyTerrorism will never be equivalent to enacting oppression. . . [image description: quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. in black and red on a white background. The quote reads, “Whites, it must be frankly said, are not putting in a similar mass effort to re-educate themselves out of their racial ignorance. It is an aspect of their sense of superiority that the white people of America believe they have so little to learn.”] . . #TheBodyIsNotAnApology #TBINAA #RadicalSelfLove #Whiteness #BodyTerrorism https://www.instagram.com/p/CKKOUnDhVDh-db-TAnfy9-in20AMYXHA1Z4Bds0/?igshid=13mnfgozld8ys

Repost from @thebodyisnotanapology • Powerful analysis from @decolonizingtherapy (partially excerpted due to space limits -- check out their original post on their profile): "Grief is a dirty word. One that we acknowledge exists, yet frantically attempt to dodge & duck from. Although healthy & natural, grief changes things inside of us in a very intimate way. Many of us experience brain fog, loss/ increase in appetite, trouble sleeping; planning & organization become a challenge. It affects our immune, digestive, cardiovascular & nervous systems. Grief impacts us emotionally, behaviorally & somatically. No one teaches us how to hold grief. How to function with it.⠀ ⠀ ...⠀ ⠀ Our Rage is our Protector. I’m gonna step out & say that Our Collective Rage is a fucking form of reparations. No, not nearly enough, but it is a reckoning. It is a releasing. It is old & ancestral & historical. Black people are Raging FOR & WITH our ANCESTORS.⠀ ⠀ We are children of murder. Of massacres. Of lynchings. We have been kidnapped from our Home. Enslaved. Forced to build someone else’s “Dream” on land that was not even theirs, against our will. We are the descendants of the violence on Black bodies & psyches during the Civil Rights Movement. And when have we had SPACE - to truly be & grieve? .⠀ ⠀ The loss is insurmountable. We still carry the brunt of this WORK on our backs. So our Collective Rage is the expression of all of our Collective Historical Grief. .⠀ ⠀ Our Rage is also protecting Disenfranchised Grief. Grief that is not openly acknowledged b/c the loss & pain is invalidated & made insignificant. Essentially, whatever makes Whiteness uncomfortable, is minimized. Imagine how this violence creates the trauma of gaslighting on the spirit & mental health of Black People. .⠀ ⠀ Our Rage is healthy & sacred. Do not pathologize our Right to Rage. Do not minimize the desire to release the burden of the beast of white supremacy from our black beautiful magnificent bodies."⠀ .⠀ .⠀ [image description: on a green background is written in black caps, "RAGE IS THE UNTRANSLATED TRAUMA OF OUR HISTORICAL GRIEF."]⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #TheBodyIsNotAnApology #TBINAA #RadicalSelfLove #BodyTerrorism https://www.instagram.com/p/CD4RQd8gcxu/?igshid=1p6350zo6h76k

#bodyterrorism #capitalistsideeffects
“Within the economic and social landscape, the bifurcation of the normative abled bodied citizen and disabled one creates an assumption that a proper citizen is an able productive one, that the economic and social value of personhood is conflated with restrictive notions of productivity. The result of this binary is that the disabled body is rendered as other, less useful then simply as just less. It is the inherent ableism of society, of capitalism’s productivity, that teaches us that we must be of use, that we are tools to be used to produce and that our entirety, our purpose, is hinged on a framework of productivity. In evaluating our life purpose and the value and purpose of others within a framework of capitalist productivity we not only shame and isolate bodies that aren’t valued as productive we unleash a form of body terrorism that communicates that it is not one’s body that should be valued but rather what that body can effectively produce.”

#Repost @thebodyisnotanapology with @repostapp. ・・・ We grieve the loss of nine black lives in Charleston last night. In an act of terrorism, white supremacy took those lives. We can honor them by working to dismantle it. #blacklivesmatter #blackbodiesmatter #bodyterrorism #thebodyisnotanapology Picture reposted from @thedreamdefenders.

#Repost @sonyareneetaylor ・・・ Posted @withregram • @thebodyisnotanapology Michael Harriot (@michaelharriot) wrote this article, "Maybe There Are No Good Cops?", for The Root (@the.root) back in 2016, and we reprinted it on our website with permission. Five years later, the questions he raises are just as starkly pertinent as ever. Link in bio. *Note: anti-Black trolling comments made in bad faith will be deleted and users banned. If they do not do so, then it is absolutely fair to lump them in with the rest of the men and women who wear the same uniform. They have the burden of proving to us that they are not all murderers, rapists and abusers of freedom. Until then, I’ll just believe what I see." Say their names!!! #Repost @thebodyisnotanapology with @make_repost ・・・ Rest in power, Xiaojie Tan. Your life and your spirit mattered. They still do. 💔❤️❤️ Posted @withregram • @asiansneverdie Xiaojie Tan dreamed of traveling the world and celebrating her 50th birthday with her daughter. Then the Atlanta shooter ended her life. Tan emigrated to the United States from China many years ago and had an adult daughter who recently graduated from the University of Georgia, said friend and customer Greg Hynson. Hynson, 54, said he had been seeing Tan as his massage therapist for a stiff neck and upper back for about six years. They both live in the area and had become good friends, he said. “She was the sweetest person you’d ever meet," he told USA TODAY. "My heart was in my throat the second I heard of it. It still doesn’t seem real." Hyson said Tan, who was known by friends as Emily, was a hardworking small-business owner. He said she always had a kind word for friends. In October, she had a cake waiting for him on his birthday when he came to the spa. Tan is survived by her daughter who was looking forward to celebrating her moms 50th birthday. RIP Xiaojie Tan. . . SHERO!!!! #Repost @thebodyisnotanapology with @make_repost ・・・ Meet Dawn Wooten. 💙 As @angelicaisaibecerra writes, "Y’all we don’t deserve Black women. Dawn Wooten blew the whistle on the horrible conditions migrants in ICE detention are under, including mass hysterectomies being performed on vulnerable immigrant women. Wooten is a registered nurse who worked full-time at the Irwin County Detention Center until July, [then] outlined her allegations in a complaint filed on Monday to the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General by a coalition of advocacy groups."⠀ .⠀ .⠀ [image description: digital illustration of Dawn Wooten speaking into a microphone against a blue background. But I'll take a target any day to do what's right, than just sit there and be a part of something inhumane."]⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #TheBodyIsNotAnApology #TBINAA #BodyTerrorism #DawnWooten #SupportDawnWooten #DawnWootenIsAHero #AbolishICE #ImmigrantJusticeNow #CloseTheCamps https://www.instagram.com/p/CFNx9WEhM1M/?igshid=5r9i4flnyk2u
