falling slowly
five times people found out about eddie changing his will, seeing right through him, and the one time they both admitted what it meant. on ao3
Sometimes, Eddie’s confused when he’s called rude— or on one memorable occasion; a motherfucking shitface —because most of the time he only wants to make other people happy. Sure, that’s not always healthy either, but rude? No. So whenever it happens, it puzzles him a great deal, never quite understanding exactly what was done or said wrong.
On this occasion though, he has no problems seeing how he’s at fault.
“Are you being an ass on purpose or is it for my benefit alone?” Ana spits, and he can’t really blame her for looking as if she wants to punch him in the face.
The thing is, he’s been meaning to end things with her for ages— since before the shooting six weeks ago —but he can never find the right moment. Or, rather, timing is right but the words get stuck in his throat, fire burning through all of them until nothing but ashes and a fresh smile remains.
The irritation he feels for himself bleeds through onto her, staining their conversations, all of them becoming stiff, sometimes as if two strangers talked. And he wants to get out of there, and he wants to stay with her forever just to bask in the easiness of it all, and he wants to kiss her to not have to say anything at all, and he wants her to end it so he doesn’t have to.
So when she took a stray potato from his plate and said, chewing, that maybe she should spend more time with Christopher in case Eddie ever had to work late, because that way she could help, and wouldn’t it be useful if the boy knew her better— well Eddie just lost his head completely.
“Why? Carla or Buck can do that.” He heard the tone of his own voice, the acid not quite coming through, and he had wished it did. The coward in him had made him frown down at the empty plate to avoid meeting her eyes, instead looking at the remaining sauce for the two pieces of potato he’d saved for just that. Ana had taken them without asking. It wasn’t a big deal, and he didn’t mind sharing his food, and he was full anyway— but damn it, he had wanted those last potatoes for himself.
She laughed at his words, soft and easily. “Is Buck honestly the best option? He seems reckless.”
And at this, something had flashed before Eddie’s eyes, red and dangerous, and the words tasted like bile even before they left his lips. “Buck is Christopher’s legal guardian if something ever happens to me.”
This sentence acted as some kind of catalyst for their first— and only —fight, vicious words thrown back and forth in a battle neither seemed to win, but both wanted to end.
So no, Eddie couldn’t blame Ana for calling him an ass. It’s also the very thing that casts him back into the correct plane of reality, a place where he prides himself in being a decent human being, someone his son can look up to.
He forces himself to meet her eyes. “I’m sorry.”
Her mouth opens and closes a few times. “W-what?”
“I said I’m sorry. For what I said and for not telling you.”
“I’m sorry too.” Her shoulders sag, and just like that this is the end between them and he knows he’s a coward for letting it be. “And for what it’s worth, you really should tell him.”
Abruptly, as if they’ve mutually agreed upon it, they go to the hallway where he reaches for the jacket he hung there an hour earlier. “I never wanted it to end this way.” This is the truth.
“Me neither.” He can’t tell if she means it or not.
“And I have told him,” he continues as he opens the front door, feeling the breeze from the warm night on his face. He’s about to let go of the handle when Ana’s hand closes over his.
“That’s not what I meant.”
She closes the door before he has the time to think of something to say— but honestly there’s nothing more to add.
***
Eddie doesn’t tell anyone about the break-up. Not immediately anyway. It’s not that he regrets it, or feels sad about it; he’s not even all that remorseful about the way it went down.
But almost a week later, it comes up when he and Chimney are alone in the kitchen, the others dozing by the tv.
“Hey, Maddie is feeling better so I thought that maybe you and Ana want to come over this weekend? You can bring Chris.“
“Ah.” He scratches himself by the ear to buy some time, which is probably what tips Chim off.
“Wait, are you not - ?”
Eddie flicks his eyes around the loft, but no one is close enough to overhear them anyway. “Nah, we broke up last week.”
“I’m sorry man.” Chim puts a gentle hand on his left shoulder and gives him a smile. “Are you okay?”
Eddie nods, because he is. “Yeah. It hasn’t been all that good since before the shooting to tell you the truth, and then we had a major fight after I told her that Buck will be the legal guardian of Chris if anything should happen to me.”
Almost a full minute goes by where Chim just stares open-mouthed at him, and Eddie doesn’t know what to do or say so he stays still, afraid of the gleeful surprise on Chim’s face.
Finally, Chim blinks a couple of times. “Can I be there when you tell Hen?”
“Why?” Eddie frowns deep, not at all what he expected Chim to say.
“Trust me. She can say what I can’t.”
“I don’t understand.”
At this, Chim gets a sympathetic smile on his face. “Oh, I know you don’t.”
And he goes to join the others.
***
To his credit, Chim doesn’t appear to tell Hen what he and Eddie discussed. Unfortunately for Eddie, this means that he doesn’t get a chance to understand what Chim meant. Well, technically, he could just tell Hen and find out for himself, but he did keep this quiet for more than a year— and it was never an active choice, he just didn’t feel as if someone else needed to know, not even Buck at first (which, looking back, might’ve been an oversight on his part)— so speaking up about it now, without being prompted, seems strange, the words falling flat on his tongue.
However, not even three days after telling Chimney, the moment presents itself in the form of Buck.
Eddie, Hen and Chim are eating, their shift about to start, when Buck practically throws his entire body towards an available chair, slamming his ankle into one of the table legs, followed by some loud cursing.
As Eddie practically hears the collective eye roll from Chim and Hen, he chuckles. “You know, some of those words are illegal.”
“Ha ha,” Buck groans in response. “Don’t worry, when I have to raise Chris by myself, I’ll make sure he knows them all. I take my guardianship very seriously.”
There’s a thump, and Eddie looks at Hen; the fork is dangling in the breeze of her open mouth, the food that was obviously just on it lying in the middle of her almost empty plate.
“Say what now?” One of her eyebrows is dangerously high up on her forehead.
Buck looks comically from her, to Eddie, to Chim, and back again. “Um, yeah,” is all he replies.
Sadly, this means Hen turns to Eddie instead, and he really wishes it weren’t so but he can feel himself shrink under her gaze. “Are you telling me you made Buck the legal guardian of your kid if something happened to you?”
“No, Buck told you that,” he jokes, but not a muscle in her face reacts. “Yes, that’s what’ll happen if I die.”
She looks thoughtful— scarily so —as her eyes flits between him and Buck; Eddie can almost feel Chim vibrating in the chair next to his own.
“I should’ve caught on sooner,” she says eventually.
“What?” Eddie’s dry mouth asks even though he doesn’t want to hear the answer. Buck, apparently, is more interested in eating than this conversation and starts picking stuff from Eddie’s plate. Somehow, Eddie doesn’t care.
Hen smirks, and points a finger between him and Buck, and Eddie can feel his eyes bulging, feel the strange beating of his heart in his own ears, the sweat starting on his palms, and Hen’s smirk turns into an actual smile.
She doesn’t elaborate, and when Buck looks up from the platter less than a minute later he seems oblivious to the exchange that has happened.
As the bell goes off and they head toward the truck, Eddie dries his hands on his thighs and drowns out what’s going on inside his head; he’s too scared of all those things he already knows to be true, almost spoken out loud in words he does not yet have.
***
By the time they get back to the station, Eddie has already figured out he needs to tell Bobby about this; it’s only a matter of time until someone slips up and Eddie really wants to be the one to tell his captain this. Not that he thinks it’s a big deal, but he’d feel weird about it if Bobby heard it from the probie.
He knocks twice on the doorframe to Bobby’s office. Both of them have taken a shower and had something to eat, enjoying the blissful quiet between calls.
Bobby looks up at Eddie over the brim of paper he’s holding. “Eddie! What can I do for you?”
Eddie, not knowing what to do with his hands, puts them in the pocket of his pants and takes a few steps into the room, making sure the door is closed. “I - uh, I wanted to talk to you about my will,” he starts.
Bobby nods, opening a cabinet next to the desk to look through some folders. “Have you changed it again since last year?”
Eddie just gapes. “What?”
“I have the copy in here somewhere,” Bobby mutters to himself. “Aha! There it is.” He presents the paper to Eddie, who accepts it. Sure enough, there’s a copy of the will he wrote after the last accident.
“I didn’t know you had this.”
“Your attorney sent it to me. He figured since you gave me the old one, you’d want me to have the new one as well.”
Eddie nods.
“What did you want to tell me about the will?” Bobby looks so concerned that Eddie can’t help the huff of laughter that escapes him.
“Nothing. I wanted you to know about Buck, that's all.”
“Ah.” Those soul gazing eyes locks onto Eddie and he squirms. “I already know.”
Lost for anything to say to this, Eddie sinks down to the closest chair and they sit together in silence until he no longer feels as if those carefully constructed walls he built to contain all he has inside for Buck is crumbling down around him. Soon he’ll be standing in the ruins of a former fortress and the only one left to tell is Buck. Eddie’s just not sure he has the courage.
***
Chris was the first one Eddie told, before he even signed the papers or anything. It just didn’t sit right with him to take this decision away from the boy. For weeks and weeks Eddie thought about the best way to bring it up, trying to come up with replies for all plausible scenarios.
It was a Wednesday when he finally took the plunge.
“Hey buddy, can I ask you something?”
Chris had nodded happily. “What Dad?”
“If I didn’t come home one day, if something bad happened to me, how do you feel about Buck taking care of you?”
Chris didn’t even think about it. Instead, he frowned deeply. “If you’re not here, why wouldn’t I live with Buck? He always takes care of us.”
Eddie had almost laughed with relief, not having foreseen this easiness at all. He ruffled Chris' hair and said, “No, you’re right. I agree.”
They didn’t talk about it again.
***
It’s been almost three weeks since his break-up with Ana, and he still hasn’t told Buck. By now, he’s probably the only one that hasn’t figured it out, but Eddie doesn’t mind. In fact, he steers clear of relationship talk when they hang out; he doesn’t want to hear about how fantastic Taylor is, or what new adventures they’ve been up to.
Strangely, it’s Bobby of all people that tells Buck. Or maybe Bobby tells Eddie, he’s not really sure.
They find Bobby cooking when they start a long shift, all of them gliding towards the whiff of glorious food.
“What’s the occasion?” Buck asks as he steals a green bean.
“Nothing really. Just a happy meal with family.” Bobby stirs the giant pot and adds some spices. “With all the break-ups happening around here, I’m almost worried it’s contagious so I figured we needed an easy dinner together.”
Eddie stiffens, but curiously enough so does Buck, shoulders rigid and face neutral. Instead, it’s Chim that speaks next. “What do you mean? Who else has broken up?”
“Well, Pannikar and his boyfriend, Eddie and Ana, and now Buck and Taylor,” Bobby says, gesturing towards each of them in turn. Everyone nods, as if nothing he said is brand new information.
“You and Ana broke up?” The words are almost as quiet as a whisper, meant for Eddie alone while the rest set the table.
Eddie nods. “You broke up with Taylor?”
“Yeah. Or we both did, I’m not sure.” He gets a deep frown between his eyebrows and the tips of Eddie’s fingers itch to smooth it out. He doesn’t. “We’re still friends though.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Buck tilts his head a little bit to the right, gazing at Eddie as if he’s a riddle to solve.
Eddie shrugs. Of course, he knows very well why he didn’t say something to Buck but he can’t tell his best friend that— or can he?
Acting on pure impulse, he takes hold of Buck’s hand and drags him away from the kitchen, down the stairs and into their bunk room. He closes the door behind them, leaning on it, and turns to look at the other man; Buck is standing just out of arm's reach. In Eddie’s stomach someone is dancing the conga in circles, begging him to get the hell out of there before he says too much and ruins it all. He ignores this, swallowing hard.
“Here’s the thing. I’ve been waiting for the right words to come to me, to figure out how to tell you what is apparently very obvious to everyone else. I mean, if I just mention how I changed my will, they all get this look in their eyes, and I know they know. And I don’t understand how you still don’t when I feel as if it’s written on my face.”
Buck is silent, and Eddie can’t even be sure his ramble made any sense whatsoever. He rests the back of his head against the door, waiting for Buck to say something, anything. The urge to get out of there is overwhelming, but the sound of Buck’s breathing is as well— harsh and quick breaths, shallow and full of emotions Eddie can’t place.
“I broke up with Taylor because I think I’m more into you than her,” Buck blurts suddenly, his eyes widening as if he never meant to say any of it.
An urge to laugh bubbles up inside him, but he presses it down. “Buck.” The other man’s eyes snap to his. “I made you the sole guardian of my kid if I die.”
Eddie can’t tell who moves first— maybe they drift at the same time, two planets on a collision course — but somehow they meet in the middle, lips crashing together until it feels as if they’re fused together as one. He nibbles gently at Buck’s bottom lip, a gesture that makes Buck practically purr in response; Eddie can feel the vibration of it underneath his fingers, lying in a soft grip around Buck’s throat.
In retaliation— reward? —Buck shuffles them back until Eddie hits the wall with a soft thump, and the quiet groan that escapes him is out of his control honestly. He can’t believe he ever thought that what he had with Ana was enough, not when this has been here the whole time, just waiting beneath the surface for someone to make the first move.
When the alarm goes off, they don’t separate immediately; instead they sigh apart, Buck letting his forehead fall until it meets Eddie’s.
“We really should talk about this,” Buck says, and he’s so close that his breath sends shivers across Eddie’s body.
“Mhm,” Eddie agrees, opening his eyes to meet Buck’s. “But there will be plenty of time for that later.”
(When they get to the truck, Hen smirks at the pair of them when they get in. Eddie pointedly ignores her, but when his gaze lands on Buck he has to bite the inside of his cheek so as not to smile wide enough to crack his head in two.)
(They get around to talking. Later.)

World Cup Countdown: 12 Weeks to Go - West Germany Exact Revenge on England in 1970 World Cup
The fact that the World Cup has only been successfully defended on two occasions (Italy 1934/1938 and Brazil 1958/1962) should be evidence enough of the calibre of a side required to not only win the Jules Rimet, but to also retain it.
That was the task ahead of Sir Alf Ramsey's England side ahead of the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. Defending champions following their 4-2 triumph against West Germany four years prior, the Three Lions were among the favourites heading into the tournament, but as fate seems to dictate, football and revenge seem to go hand in hand.
They say that the only thing harder than getting to the top is to actually stay there, which is a fact England learned the hard way on 14th June 1970.
For all the joy and jubilation that surrounded England during their 1966 World Cup success, the 1970 edition was not short in drama for the national team even before the tournament began.
Captain Bobby Moore was arrested in the build-up over the allegation of stealing a bracelet in the jewellery store of the Bogota hotel in Colombia, but would later be released four days after the incident with charges later dropped, while England's apparent displeasure of the World Cup being held in Mexico painted the holders as somewhat pantomime villains throughout their duration in North America.
Despite preparations being less than ideal, England somewhat toiled to second place in Group 3, as 1-0 wins against Romania and Czechoslovakia sandwiched a hugely memorable 1-0 defeat against pre-tournament favourites Brazil; a game remembered for 'that' Gordon Banks save from Pele and a brilliant team goal finished by Jairzinho.
England's confidence had been elevated following their clash against Brazil, with Alan Mullery stating that: "We'd gained a lot of respect from the Brazil game and we'd heard that they expected to play us again in the final."
As a result of the Brazil defeat however, England had to settle for the runners up spot in the group, setting up a harder quarter final against a familiar foe. West Germany had cantered to the top of Group 4 and had an immediate chance to exact revenge for that defeat at Wembley four years ago.
In a tournament where little seemed to go right for Sir Alf Ramsey's side, the holders were dealt a huge blow the day before the game in Leon. Goalkeeper Gordon Banks was ruled out of the game with food poisoning, meaning that Chelsea's Peter 'The Cat' Bonetti was thrust into the spotlight - in one of only seven times he ever played for his country.
Old protagonists for England remained such as skipper Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton and Geoff Hurst, complementing new faces for the game at the Estadio Nou Camp, caped in a searing heat. West Germany meanwhile, had a side laced with the hurt of 1966 in the shape of Franz Beckenbauer and Uwe Seeler, setting up the 1966 World Cup final rematch.
England, donning a familiar red, started the better and took a deserved lead in the 31st minute, courtesy of Mullery's first international goal. The midfielder was picked out with a low cross from right back Keith Newton, before slotting the ball past a helpless Sepp Maier to take the goal advantage into half time.
Things went from good to great for England following the restart, managing to score a second a mere five minutes into the second period. Charlton was afforded too much time on the ball in West Germany's half, and he laid the ball off to a marauding Newton down the right flank. The full back, who caused the Germans problems throughout the game, delivered another low cross from the right, which Martin Peters managed to squeeze home at the far post.
"For an hour it was a joy to be out there," said Mullery, as England seemed to have finally arrived at the World Cup, playing their best football up to this point. Though, you should never right off Die Mannschaft.
(You may also be interested in World Cup Countdown: 12 Weeks to Go - How a Match Between Honduras and El Salvador Started a War)
As a result of England's second, Helmut Schnon made a tactical decision to bring on Jurgen Grabowski, the World Cup's most dangerous substitute, in place Reinhard Libuda. Mullery noted the importance of Grabowski's introduction into the game, stating: "He definitely changed things, coming on to run the bollocks off Terry Cooper who was very tired."
With the game nearing the 70th minute, West Germany had their route back into the game in a moment that stand-in Bonetti would want to forget. Franz Beckenbauer glided into the English penalty area, before his tame effort rolled underneath a hapless Bonetti to halve the deficit.
This goal brought about a second important substitution in the game, seeing an ageing Bobby Charlton replaced by Colin Bell, in a decision that many believed decided the game. Beckenbauer himself said: "In my own mind I was already on the plane home, but Ramsey made a tactical error in calling off Charlton."
By the 82nd minute, Schon's side were level - and it was no more than they had deserved. West Germany's pressure soon told as a hopeful ball in from Karl Heinz Schnellinger was audaciously headed with his back to goal by the captain Seeler, perfectly looping over a statuesque Bonetti to almost inevitably send the game into extra time.
STAT OF THE DAY: Uwe Seeler scored his 9th & final #WorldCup goal on this day in 1970. @Pele is the only other to score in four competitions
— FIFA World Cup  (@FIFAWorldCup) June 14, 2014
For all the euphoria that existed following their extra time success in 1966, this time it would a taste somewhat bitter as Ramsey and England discovered the agony that exists when a game in extra time is lost.
With West Germany now appearing to be the stronger of the two sides, it would be in the 108th minute that the final, damning blow was delivered. Substitute Grabowski dug out a deep cross towards the far, which was met by Hannes Lohr. He managed to head to ball back towards the six yard box, leaving the mercurial talent of Gerd Muller with the simple task of nodding home.
That proved to be the final act in what was a pulsating drama, as referee Angel Norberto Coerezza's whistle brought an end to not only the contest, but England's reign as World Cup holders. The jubilation for West Germany would be short lived, as they were knocked out by Italy in the semi final, eventually succumbing 4-3 in another game that was decided in extra time, before going on to beat Uruguay in the third place play-off.
For England however, it brought an end to a tournament that had been in difficult, uncomfortable and not 1966. The damage felt in Blighty was not just limited to the footballing domain. England's quarter final exit was said to be a major reason behind Labour losing the 1970 General Election, four days after the game in Leon, dumping Harold Wilson out of No. 10 in the process.
Quite simply, the 1970 World Cup had been a wretched tournament for Sir Alf Ramsey's side, a far cry from four years prior. It was a sobering experience for the Three Lions in Mexico as everything that could go wrong seemed to do just that. It felt that during that World Cup, England were a long way from home, in more ways that one.

Earth To Izzy - Jungkook Scenario
Your team had just won the quarter-final of the volleyball tournament. To celebrate, your captain was throwing a small party in the gym after the game. Plus ones were allowed so it only seemed fair that you invited your best friend Jungkook since he had invited you to his basketball team’s party earlier that month. You were very excited about the party until you found out that the captain of the football team was going to be there.
The guy, Bobby, had been hitting on you and trying to get you to go on a date with him for over a year. He was persistent, you’d give him that. But, oh boy, was he annoying. You couldn’t even count on your fingers how many times you had rejected him in the past month.
“You okay?” Jungkook asked you when you entered the gym. The annoyance clearly was evident on your face.
“Yeah, just tired from the match.” You smiled. He probably could tell that wasn’t the reason for your expression but he decided not to push. He’d ask you later.
“I’m not surprised. You worked really hard. You did well.” He gave you a friendly pat on the back and you smiled.
“You’re still kinda sweaty and smelly… Are you sure you’ve showered?” He teased, grinning widely.
“I’ve probably showered more than you ever have.” You clapped back, giving a small smile.
The two of you had been friends for what felt like forever. You’d practically grown up together. You’re pretty sure in Jungkook’s eyes you were like his sister. That was something that people didn’t seem to understand.
For some reason, there was some kind of mental block for some people who couldn’t get over the idea that you and Jungkook were not actually dating. You thought it was kind of cruel that they expected that. Sure, when you were younger, you developed a small crush on the guy but it was nothing serious. You hadn’t even imagined yourself dating him.
But the more that Bobby had been hitting on you, the more appealing it was to just pretend to be dating Jungkook. Obviously, you had never thought to ask him. Even if he did agree, you imagined that it would get quite awkward between the two of you.
“Earth to Izzy. Hello?” Jungkook snapped his fingers at you, bringing you out of your thoughts.
“Huh?”
“I asked if you wanted a drink?”
“Sure… Just a coke though.” You said, unsure.
“We’re at school. Why would I offer you alcohol? ” He rolled his eyes.
“I don’t know. Just seems like something stupid that you would do.” The two of you laughed.
Jungkook whispered in his native language under his breath as he walked away while shaking his head. You weren’t quite sure what he said but you were pretty sure he just called you an idiot.
You walked around the gym for a few minutes, talking to your teammates when you were tapped on the shoulder. Expecting it to be Jungkook, you turned around with a smile. The smile fell as soon as you laid your eyes on Bobby.
Here we go. You thought.
“Hey Izzy. Are you here alone? I thought you’d have brought a date.”
“Bobby-” He hushed you.
“How about I be your date?” He smirked.
“Bobby-” You began.
“Is that a yes?” He interrupts.
“That’s a no.”
“Why not babygirl? You scared you can’t handle me?” He pulled the worst smirk you have ever seen in your life. You open your mouth to argue but you’re cut off again.
“It’s because she doesn’t like you. Now back off.” A different male voice answers Bobby.
“She’s never told me.”
“She has plenty of times. Back off.” Jungkook now stood in between yourself and Bobby.
“Who are you to tell me what to do?”
“Her boyfriend!” Jungkook yelled.
Your eyes widened. Shit. Bobby’s head snapped to you and his eyes glared deep into your own with a look of shock. You tried to control your face so that it looked like you weren’t as equally as surprised by Jungkook’s outburst.
The entire party had come to a halt. The room was staring at the three of you. Jungkook didn’t break eye contact with Bobby. He looked like he was trying his best to act tough. You choked back a laugh.
The football captain was the first to back down. Jungkook came over to you and put his arm around you shoulders, leading you out of the party.
When you were out of the hall and earshot of the party go-ers, you turned to him with a raised eyebrow.
“What?” He asked.
“Don’t ‘what?’ me Jeon Jungkook. Why? Why did you do that?”
“He’ll leave you alone now.”
“Yes but now we’re going to have to pretend to date so that he - and everyone else in the party - thinks it’s true.”
“And? People already think we’re dating anyway. It’s not gonna be too bad. We just have to occasionally be more affectionate.”
At that moment you realised his arm was still around your shoulders and you shrugged it off.
“Why are you not bothered by this?” You asked, forcefully.
“Why are you so bothered by this?”
“Because we’re not dating!” You whisper shouted.
“Why? Do you want to date?” Jungkook argued back.
“No!”
“Then why are you so against pretending to date me?”
You huffed and realised that there was no way you could argue back without making it seem like you were in love with the boy. So you kept quiet.
It had been a two weeks since the school heard the news of your “relationship” with Jungkook. For two weeks, that is all anyone has talked about. You were getting sick of people asking questions and calling you guys “relationship goals.”
If only they knew. You laughed to yourself.
“Hey babe!” Jungkook beamed, softly touching your hand to let you know he wanted to hold it, His new nickname for you made you feel uneasy. It felt like there were hundreds of butterflies in your stomach every time he called your name or touched you. For some reason, you were worried that you had started to develop feelings for your best friend. However, you pushed it to the side and decided that it was because you were just uncomfortable with the whole situation.
Deep down, on the other hand, you knew that was not the case. In fact, you were the most comfortable you had ever been. And it pained you to say it.
In the past two weeks there had been a few times where the two of you had almost kissed or had lingered too long after a hug. After your team had won the semi-final, Jungkook - who was sat on the sidelines - rushed to you and pulled you into a hug. You pulled back to tell him that you had to go see your team but the look in his eyes had captivated you. It was a look that you had never seen in his eyes before and it shook you to your core.
Those small feelings that you had for him in 6th grade flooded back and were in full bloom. You both lingered there for a moment before breaking eye contact and going separate ways. Your team gave you a questioning look but you just shrugged it off. It hadn’t been the same since that day. It was awkward now. At least for you. Jungkook seemed to have become more affectionate.
You snapped yourself out of your thoughts and closed your fingers around his own. He smiled at you.
“How’s my favourite hitter?”
“I don’t know. How is she?”
“I think she’s gonna do great at the final today. If she concentrates on the game and not on me.”
“In your dreams, Kookie.”
He huffed, “At least try to pretend, Izzy.”
You sighed and let go of his hand. Was this the right time to bring it up? Was it now or never?
For a brief moment, you decided on the latter. Just never tell him. That’d be good. You sighed again and changed your mind.
“What’s with all the sighing, Izzy?”
“What if I don’t want to pretend anymore?”
“We can just say we broke up.”
“No… I mean… What if I wanted to really date you?”
You turned away before you could see Jungkook’s smile. To be honest, you didn’t even give him time to answer. You sped off to the gym. He was left there confused. Why would you just confess to him and then run away? Were you embarrassed by him?
The game went ahead as planned, you playing as hitter as usual. Occasionally, you looked to the side bench for Jungkook but he was nowhere to be found. It would be a lie to say that you weren’t a bit disappointed. But you understood. You’d have been the same two weeks ago if he had told you what you just told him.
Playing seemed to take your mind off the situation. It was a hard game and you had to concentrate. The other team won the first game. You had to fight back to level the score so that there was at least a small chance of you winning. Even though they were tough, your team battled through and won the match.
You were celebrating with your team when you spotted a familiar face waiting on the sidelines. Without thinking, you ran to him and wrapped your arms around his shoulders. He picked you up and spun you around.
“Jungkook… About what I said earlier, I-”
You were interrupted by his soft lips pressing against your own. At first, you were shocked but you soon relaxed into the kiss and returned it. He broke this kiss first.
“Sorry, did I interrupt you? What were you going to say?”
“It doesn’t matter… babe.” You teased.
“I see.” He laughed, travelling his hand down your arm to place it within your own.
You smiled at him and noticed a pink tint brushing over his cheeks.
“Are you blushing?” “No…”
“Oh my God… you’re such a dork.” You laughed, pulling him into a hug.
He pulled away quickly and held his nose, “ Go shower! Jeez! You’re so gross and sweaty!”
You giggled at him as you ran off into the locker room alongside your teammates who were all as giddy as you were.
“Party in the gym tonight!” Your team captain yelled. You turned to look for Jungkook who beamed the brightest smile you’ve ever seen at you. Those pesky butterflies were back again. The party tonight was going to be fun.

Semester 1 - January 2017.
Hey readers! Welcome back to my blog. As your read this post, I’m already in my Semester 2 now, but before delay any longer and let all the old memories becoming a history, I want to share my personal experience in detail for you all. Which I did mention in my previous blogpost that I’ll write one regarding on my current Physiotherapy course. Let’s start. It was a decision made on last Christmas, 2016. Without being procrastinate, I just did it by enrolling myself into Physiotherapy course in INTI, Nilai. I remembered I was in a dilemma between doing psychology, or physiotherapy. As for law, it has been disqualified long ago. I’m glad that I did not choose that path because as soon as I realised the life of a law student, it wasn’t any of my passion. However, choosing physiotherapy wasn’t my super-confirm choice too. It was a result of “elimination” on all the tertiary courses that are available. So, I will encourage you not to be too worry or concern over what you want to study for your UNI level, I’ve only decide mine two weeks before class commence. I meant that you don’t need to stress and be confirmed of what you want to pursue, but just putting options and choices on the table is the first step. Sooner then, you’ll find favour and somehow everything just falls into place. I couldn’t find any best word to describe my semester 1, Physio in Nilai except being grateful. I’m really thankful for all that happened and I’m so blessed to be in such place, meeting the right company of friends, learn new things, strive for studies, grow under pressure and do life together. Firstly, I want to share about my group of friends. We have 16 in total. I’ve actually written in one of my old blogpost, the starting was “Let’s start talking on my degree course-mates that I met in INTI, I’m sure a lot of people have been wondering how it goes. For this first January Intake, there’s only 16 of us in Physiotherapy course. Surprisingly, it’s an odd to know that guys’ population are greater than girls who take this course for our batch. In addition to that, God’s favour is upon us. We are known to be the closest 1st Semester batch ever. It was last Tuesday, we had our very first class day trip down to Subang as an early celebration of CNY before we all head back our hometown. It was a great bonding day and eventually that outing pulled us closer to one another. I have a good feeling that we’ll be able to pull it through for the remaining 4 years of journey studying together. Be it for the great, worst or challenging moment, we’ll stay and fight to be one. I’m looking forward to greater things ahead and definitely create more memories along the way.” To continue the above story on my beloved fellow course-mates, our friendship became stronger and closer when we have planned multiple -outings, the “CNY outing”, “MitSui Outlet outing”,“Mid-valley” and “After-finals Sunway outing”. All these outing have make our bond stronger and built a memorable memories to look back one day. Moreover, we did Korean Spicy Noodle Challenge, went Karaoke, Pool playing with Bobby. Towards the end of semester, when we have some free time before finals, we somehow went Cyber café with the guys for counter strike game. For the girls of my course, we actually had two times of sleepover at Yong Jing’s house. Not forgetting one night in my room, where we had three of us squeezing in a single bed. As for our guys of my course, most of them are quite sporting and active, Wey Loc as our captain for previous sports meet has continued his role and started out a work-out plan, “Say-No-More” challenge to keep our body healthy and ensuring a productive time in Nilai. I’m really grateful to be placed in this batch of semester as the size of our class is just nice and easier to bond together. We even came out with our own short film within this semester, “Kisah Tenabi”. The purpose of this film is to serve our MPU assignment marks and for entertaining purposes, it wasn't the best product which we have planned out in the beginning because of time-limit and there's some complications throughout the process. Our script was changed twice by the lecturer because of certain reasons. A big thank you to our scriptwriter, Henri Junior who finally made this story-line a success and approved by lecturer before shooting can be further progressed. However, I want to highly appreciate and give credit to the VIP, the real hero who put double the efforts in making this drama a success - Jonathan Chew. Also not forgetting everyone who has taken part in this process of filming. It was indeed a long, time-consuming and tiring process. Yet, it's worth to see that this came to past and we made it through our little short skit. As for my club activities in INTI, I joined Taekwondo, Frisbee and Physio club (compulsory) initially. As time passed by, I have stopped going Frisbee training without any reason xD. I feel guilty. However, it’s fine for me as long as I’m still continuing my taekwondo training. I’m as proud and happy as I have successfully promoted to green belt within a year. My plan is to get black belt by 2019, before I finished my studies in INTI. In Physiotherapy, it is a 4 years duration course. Three years of theoretical studies, while the remaining one year, which is the last year is for clinical posting, as a student physiotherapist trainee. Under the first semester, there are two major subjects, which are anatomy and physiology respectively. These are the fundamental knowledge and understandings that must be acquired as a health care student. I was really encouraged along the way because I managed to achieve good result by God’s grace. I even achieved an A+ for my Anatomy subject. When I said this, I’m not trying to boast or brake about, but really really, I never would have imagine to be in such place but because of God’s favor upon me throughout the period of studying and exams. Not forgetting that I was actually in rock bottom of my life last April, May until finals approach. God is gracious and good Father, He indeed has not forsaken me when I cried out for help and His divine strength during that difficult period time of my life. As for another two minor subjects, which also counted in GPA are University English and Psychology respectively. At first, I was really unhappy of the English to be part of our course structure for this Semester. All my life, I thought language subject should have ended in my high school long ago. Yet, it proceeded to my college, and now until my Uni life. I was really frustrated and upset. However, we have no choice but to just do it. It wasn’t any easy time for me because English has always and forever a challenge for me personally. The difficult part was to write 4 essays in 2 hours’ time during finals. Apart from compulsory classes, we were privileged enough to be offered extra session, guided by our seniors to reinforce our learning and revision on our studies, known as P2P. It caters to only semester 1’s newbies. Through this time of learning, we actually gained a lot of tips and advice in how to study effectively and access material resourcefully. One of my long-waited miracle, has been answered by God after 5 months, which is the cancellation of MUET requirement for 2017 students. For my church life, I have been attending Acts church for the moment. One highlight was the Fairstival Conference, where there’re varieties of electives to learn and be eyes-opened. I thank God for Carolyn in looking after me and praying for me throughout that period time. Another woman of faith is Elisha, she is like an older sister to me and just happened to live in the same block as me. She brought me out to Palm Square for movie when I was in stress and down. She was more willing to hear from me of my struggles, life problems and direct me into God’s way and His truth. I love to hear from her as she always have great insight and her living and faith in God is forever inspiring. I feel her presence is like an angel appeared to my life in supporting me which sent by God in this season of my life which I’ve asked for. To sum everything up, it has been a great journey for the past 6 months studying in Nilai. It’s an interesting one and God has showed me his assurance and favor. I’m blessed by His favor throughout the entire semester, it will not stop there. I will hold onto God’s promises and continue to live a favorable, abundant life for the next semester and toward the time that comes.
