“Good morning, Tony.” Shaw greets the salon manager as he steps towards him and his partner. “Where's Y/N?”
Tony crosses his arms. “Takin’ a vacation.” He answers coldly. “You got more questions; you're gonna have to ask me.”
“Tony,” Danik sighs. “We've been through this before, haven't we? The first time we were here. You know how it works, how about you save us the time and call your boss down here?”
“My boss?” Tony echoes. After a moment he nods. “Yeah, sure. I'll call my boss for ya.”
The last time they were here, the agents had paced the front of the salon as they waited, eyeing everything they could in their search. Today, they stay in a corner, watching the few stylists and Tony at work. Danik is a moment away from asking Tony how long this is going to take when someone walks into the front from the back of the salon.
The man is tall. His dark hair slicked back on his head, shiny with the product used to keep it in place. He looks at ease, calm, as he approaches the agents. He flashes a smile when he nears, white teeth shown and his eyes crinkling at the edges with the motion. His hand is held out to Danik and Shaw individually.
“My apologies for keeping you waiting, Agents. I had to finish things up with my other business.”
“I'm sorry…” Shaw starts as he shakes the man's hand. “Who are you?”
The man chuckles, nodding. “Ah sí, sí, mi scusi. I forget myself this morning. Luca Bellino, at your service. I'm happy to answer any questions you have or walk you through the back again if you like.”
The agents share a look between each other.
“I think there's been some misunderstanding.” Danik says as she looks back to Luca. “We asked to speak with Y/N.”
Luca’s head tilts to the side, looking back at the confused looking agents, matching their expression. “Did you?” He asks as his brow furrows. “I was told you requested the owner.”
“Well, yes.” Shaw says, a bit slowly. “The owner. Y/N.”
“Ah, I see, I see.” Luca sighs in sudden understanding. “Please, come with me.” He requests, turning and leading the agents to the back office of the salon.
“You must not have been informed.” Luca says as he steps through the office, opening a drawer of the filing cabinet and pulling a yellow file folder from it before closing it once more.
He sets the file folder to the desk, facing the agents standing on the other side of the wood. Deft fingers open the folder, tapping the papers now visible. “You see?” Luca says, looking back up to Danik and Shaw. “I'm the owner now. The salon was signed over to me a few days ago.”
“Y/N sold the salon to you?” Danik asks as she's studying the forms in front of them.
“Sí.” Luca answers as his hands cross at the wrists to rest at his waist, his head nodding. “You've seen our books, no? The salon hasn't been as profitable in the last few months. Y/N tried to bring it out of the red but in the end it was safer to sell, especially with her little family to think about.”
“So, now you're going to try to bring the salon’s profits up?” Shaw asks.
Luca smiles, though this time it doesn't reach his eyes. “Do not tell the stylists, or Tony.” He says softer, leaning a bit forward. “I haven't had the chance to speak with them yet and I'd hate for them to learn from anyone other than me but I’m working out the details of shutting the salon down.” Luca sighs, looking for all the world like he wishes he had another choice. “It's just too much to turn around and the clients aren't coming in like they used to. It's the best thing we can do before it gets worse.”.
Danik raises a brow, but he relents.
The two agents head out, but not before Luca calls out to them, “Whatever you have against the Schemmenti family, drop it. They had nothin’ to do with Bobby’s demise.”
Your day is uneventful. You have nothing to do now that the girls are at school, Melissa is at work, and the salon is out of your hands. You mill around the house, doing as much cleaning as you possibly can before you groan and fall face first onto the couch, bored out of your mind.
You lay there for a few moments before you finally sigh and grab your keys. You make your way out of the house and towards Twelve Tables.
Melissa would say she’s shocked to see you when you come in through the back- but she isn’t. She knows how hard this is for you to not be involved in any of your work right now, both salon and other wise.
“Hi, my love,” you sigh as you pick up a knife and start chopping the broccoli next to her.
“What’re you doing here?” She just briefly glances at you before going back to her own work.
“I think I’m dying of boredom,” you tell her. “I can’t remember the last time I had this much time off from everything.”
“Would you mind chopping this up then while I attend to other business?”
“Other business?” Val asks as she makes her way out of the walk-in fridge.
“I have things to do in the office,” Melissa says, just a bit too quickly. “Scheduling, finances… I think we may need to look into other companies to deliver.”
You raise a brow, as does the manager, but you nod. You know that what she’s actually doing is trying to clean up the area in order to run your other business alongside this one. If you’re going to execute this, and execute it well, everything has to be in it's own place.
So, that’s what the redhead heads into the office to do.
“Melissa seems frazzled lately,” Valentina notes softly. “Is everything okay at home?”
You shrug. “I uh… had to sell the salon,” you lie through your teeth. “It hasn’t been making money, so… you know. She’s probably stressed over that.”
The woman hums, and for the rest of the time that you’re there until you have to pick up your girls you’re directed on what to chop, dice, slice, and grate.
Finally, you pop your head into the back. “Mel? I have to go pick up the girls. Are you coming with me?”
“Hmm?” Her eyes don’t even leave the new ledger that she’s creating. “I have to wait for the shipment to come in, so… I’ll be home for bedtime though.”
She isn’t. And your girls are beyond confused as to why the three of you can’t stop down at the restaurant for a quick hug and kiss from Mommy and why they can’t have coloring time with Valentina. You can’t tell them the real reason- you just explain that Melissa is busy.
“But Mommy is always busy, and we still always get to go there!” Rosie whines.
“Not tonight, sweetheart.” You sigh. You know you still could, technically, take them down to the restaurant. Just long enough to say goodnight. Except you can feel your wife glaring at you from across town if you did. Or worse, picture her having to keep her attention away from your girls because she's so busy.
It becomes a point of contention the rest of the night. Your girls both throw fits because they don't understand. Just getting them dinner fed has you stretched thin. By the time you're fighting with them about bath time you're feeling yourself begin to shake slightly. The girls’ attitudes and fits this evening aren't really what upsets you; it's just the last straw on top of everything else.
You just barely get them both towel dry from the bath when you tell them to pick out their pajamas. The one thing they don't argue with you on this evening as they get to choose their own clothes; one of their favorite things.
You kneel on the tile, letting the bath water out. One of the girl's towels still in your hand you lean to wipe up a small puddle. You toss the towel to the pile near the door to put in the laundry. You sigh, and instead of getting up you let yourself shift backward to sit on the bathroom floor with your back against the wall.
You bury your face in your hands as you try to stop the sudden tears from overflowing. You just need a minute, you tell yourself. Just a minute you'll let it happen and then you'll pull yourself together. Except you can't. You force deep breaths but you can't stop the tears still rolling from your eyes down your cheeks. You lean your head against the wall as you hear little voices calling.
“Mam! Mam!” It's both Cat and Rosie, steadily getting closer.
You really try to stop as you wipe your eyes. You don't want them to see you like this. Yet each swipe at your face just sees more tears filling your eyes.
“Mam! Look at my slippies! I did them on myself!” Rosie exclaims as she shuffles into the doorway, looking at her feet. She's wearing your wife’s house slippers. Backwards.
“Mam!” Cat is saying beneath her sister speaking, appearing at her side at the same time. “I don't have slippies! It's not fair, Rosie has slippies!”
You go to look up, but you hate showing any signs of weakness in front of your girls, so your head stays down as you attempt to pull yourself up from the floor. You lean against the sink, hands tightly gripping the porcelain sink, knuckles growing about as white as the utility in front of you. You keep your back to them, not wanting them to see you as the mess that you are right now.
“Girls,” you sigh shakily. “Mam cannot right now. Get yourselves to bed, and I’ll be in to read your story to you in a few minutes.”
“But Mam!” Cat whines out. You hear her stomp her little foot against the cool bathroom tile, and you can practically see the way that her arms are crossed over her chest- a look that she absolutely picked up from your wife. “Rosie has slippies, and I want-”
Wiping away your tears, you turn around. “Caterina Ann.”
At seeing your face so distraught and aged, both of your twins’ faces drop. “Mam?” They both ask.
“Mam just needs a minute,” you sigh softly, hating the way that your voice breaks just slightly. “Please, girls.”
At that, both of your girls slink off. Your oldest walks off while your youngest shuffles her feet quietly. You half-expect to hear her giggles at the way she’s heading down the hall, but you don’t. Even at their young ages, Cat and Rosie understand that your crying in front of them is not okay- something isn’t right.
When you find it in you to pull yourself out of the bathroom, you head for their room. When you get there though, they aren’t in their beds like you expect them to be. In fact, their pillows and the stuffed animals they insist on sleeping with every night have vanished too. That only means one thing.
You appear in the doorway of your own room, and you see them curled up in your bed. Silently, you thank God you had let your wife talk you into splurging and getting a king-sized bed. It comes in handy for nights like this when both girls worm their way into your bed and Melissa will be getting home and sliding in too.
“Mam,” Rosie pats the spot in between her and her sister. “We leaved room for you.”
Despite the sadness that had inhabited your soul just a few seconds ago, you let a soft smile slip at the kindness and thoughtfulness of your girls. You may not be doing everything right in this world, but you are raising two wonderful, wonderful young ladies.
“Give me a few minutes to change and prepare for bed,” you sigh softly as you wipe new tears from your eyes. “And then I’ll be in.”
It’s about ten minutes later, once you’ve gotten into your sleep apparel and shed a few more tears without the girls’ knowledge, that you slip in between them. Cat hands you a book- your favorite book to read aloud to them.
After their story, they both curl up into your sides and promptly fall asleep, tired from their crazy day in kindergarten.
And once they’re asleep? Your tears return. Silent sobs shake your body as you mourn the death of Bobby all over again, one that you never wanted in the first place- you had actually pleaded for them to not order the hit on the man. You bite your lip and let the tears flow over the fact that you’ve been taken off of the salon- that you have no idea what’s happening there now despite the fact that it’s only been a few days. You hate the fact that your wife is taking all of this on- that her restaurant is in danger now because you got the feds on your tail and don’t know how to shake them loose. Your heart breaks when you remember that Barbara is now in danger because she holds onto the ledger that determines your, and now your wife’s, fate, and she was still there for you in a moment of weakness at the church. It gets to a point where you’re just crying over it all, a hand clamped over your mouth as the sobs bubble up inside of you, and you have to muffle the noise or else you’ll wake your girls. You end up crying yourself to sleep, body exhausted with all of the emotions coursing through it like a river. You’re drowning- absolutely drowning in it all.

Those in italics have five or more pieces of usable visual, written, or audio propaganda already. If you have any visuals like photos or videos, or if you have something to say in words, submit it to this blog before round one begins on June 25th!
If you don't see a name you submitted here, it's because most or all of their career was as a child/they were too young for the cutoff, their career was almost entirely after 1979, or music was something they only dabbled in and are hardly known for. There are quite a few ladies on the list whose primary career wasn't "recording artist" or "live musician," but released several albums or were in musical theater, so they've been accepted.

The Grue-Crew and guest host Dirk Rogers take a trip to the beach with one of the last of the Beach Party movies. Wait, what? There’s no beach? No ocean? No surfing? And AIP disliked the product so much that they added Boris Karloff and the whole ghost-in-the-invisible-bikini schtick after the fact?
Well, The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966) makes for a nice title. Let’s face it. It’s a bad movie. It’s even a dumb movie. But it can be a fun movie, especially if you love the lame, teen music numbers inserted throughout the film as much as the Grue-Crew do. And even if you despise the music (yeah, the Grue-Crew didn’t like it either – except Doc, of course), you can have fun with this flick.
With Deborah Walley and Tommy Kirk (subbing for Annette and Frankie), Basil Rathbone, Patsy Kelly, Harvey Lembeck (Eric von Zipper!), Jesse White, and Nancy Sinatra, there’s always something to watch. Think “the Three Stooges in an old dark house.”
At the time of this writing, The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966) is available to stream from MGM+, Amazon Prime, and several PPV options.
Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror: The Classic Era records a new episode every two weeks. Next in their very flexible schedule – this one chosen by Jeff – is The Shadow of the Cat (1961), a Hammer Film directed by John Gillin, featuring Barbara Shelley and André Morell, recently released as part of Scream Factory’s Universal Horror Collection Vol. 6!
Please let them know how they’re doing! They want to hear from you – the coolest, grooviest fans: leave them a message or leave a comment on the Gruesome Magazine YouTube channel, the site, or email the Decades of Horror: The Classic Era podcast hosts at [email protected]
To each of you from each of them, “Thank you so much for watching and listening!”

Omega Probie buck please xoxo definitely not princessfbi in a pair of stylish but affordable sunglasses and sun hat
bestie you are literally the person who knows the most about omega probie buck after me! i planned 90% of this universe in your DMs 🤣
that being said, i guess i could tease a snippet. i’m not sure if i’m going to use this in the final draft but i was toying with it 🤷
There is no doubt that Buckley is physically capable of handling the job. He showed exceptional work when first starting, but the quality of his work declined quickly. He appears to lack the critical thinking skills needed on the field, and has a history of emotional outbursts. After several months working at my station, he has failed to make any interpersonal connections with fellow firefighters and acts on his own terms rather than as a team.
On the phone, Shaw had gone as far as to say this Evan kid is all brawns and no brain— something Bobby had immediately called out as unnecessarily crass. Criticizing a firefighter’s work ethic wasn’t completely unheard of, but insulting a person for their lack of intelligence was uncalled for and completely unprofessional in Bobby’s opinion.
It’s probably what prompts Bobby to finally set down the paperwork and brush off his unease.
According to his file, Evan Buckley had broken multiple Academy records— ones that had just been broken by Eddie before he joined the 118. He had nothing but praises from the academy trainers, and there was something to say about the fact that Shaw had been two seconds from firing the guy, yet Chief Alonzo wanted to give him another chance, and spoke about Evan in a neutral— borderline positive— light.
Bobby isn’t sure how much faith he can put into Captain Shaw’s words. He can only wait to see for himself how much faith he’ll be able to put into one Evan Buckley.

“You really talked to each other?” Julie asked.
“A lot,” Flynn said. “And I think there’s more to be said. But you don’t have to talk to her if you’re not ready.”
“I mean… I’m not,” Julie said. “But when else am I gonna get the chance to see her? And I mean you did the right thing,” she added. “No matter the past I don’t want her to keep hurting herself.”
“Appreciated,” a new voice chimed in that made them both look up. Carrie was leaning against the hallway’s doorway, staring back at them. And now this was officially weird.
“Hi, Carrie,” Julie said, her voice softening. Because at the end of the day no matter how weird it was, Julie was a good person and Carrie was going through something. They were old enough to know better now.
“Hi, Julie,” Carrie said.

Aricka and Bobby reunited
(Aricka and Bobby/Trevor Wilson)
(After they play the Orpheum and Carrie saves Aricka, the Shaw twins are properly reunited.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Aricka S*
Phantom pain sensations ripple through Aricka’s middle as she looks up at her brother- her BROTHER- who had apparently ran from the Orpheum all the way to this studio- their studio, their home- on the off chance of seeing her one last time.
Carrie had got there seconds before her dad, throwing her arms around Aricka’s dying form and pleaded with her to stay, declaring that she loved Aricka even though they barely had any time to talk, and it was enough to save her. Aricka had glowed just as her band mates had, and the purple stamp of the HGC floated away just as Trevor had ran in.
Aricka remained on the floor, Carrie’s arms around her waist, as the rockstar knelt in front of his still 18 year old twin sister. “… Aricka?” He whispered.
Hot, salty tears filled Aricka’s eyes as she nods and bites her lip, holding up her left wrist to show off the red beaded bracelet she never took off, not for a moment. “Hi Buggy,” she whispered back.
The old nickname was enough for Trevor- for Bobby- to break down crying, and Aricka surged forward to hug him, wrapping her arms around her brother’s neck and running a hand through his hair like she had when they were littler.
“You died… you died before I could even say goodbye- I’m so sorry. I never forgot about you… I just- it hurt so much to talk about you… you were my twin and I lost a half of me when you died…” words came choked out through sobs and Aricka merely clung to her now-big brother.
“Shh… I’m here. I’m back and I think I’m human again. And I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon,” she soothes. “I’m back Buggy. I’m back…” she looks at Luke over Bobby’s shoulder, and sees the mixed look of anger, hurt and relief on his face. The lead singer and guitarist of Sunset Curve, now backup vocalist and lead guitarist of Julie and the Phantoms, walks over to them.
“Hi Trevor,” he says. The name caught Trevor’s attention and he looks up.
“Luke…” he breaths. “It’s actually- you’re not- I’m not dreaming-!?”
Luke stiffly shakes his head no, and shies away when Bobby tried to grab his hand. “No, it’s not a dream. I- I’m not-,” and then he strides away, but not before giving Aricka a “I’m not upset at you,” look.
Trevor sighs. “I have some explanations for you all. Please sit?” The phantoms; Julie and Carrie all claim a seat, save Luke who was glaring out the garage window. Aricka clings to her brother, who was reciprocating, and Carrie was leaning against her aunt and dad. “… I want to start by asking- how did this happen-? And why just now?”
They give Bobby the cliff notes version of their coming back, which had both himself and Carrie wide eyed and terrified by the end. Carrie latched onto Aricka in a shocking display of public affection. “We almost lost you twice and never would’ve known-,” she whispered. Aricka gripped Carrie’s hand tightly.
“I’m right here, Care-Bear. You’re gonna be stuck with me for a while- if you want that.”
“Okay that’s great and all, love the family reunion, but it doesn’t explain why you stole our music.” Alex was glaring at Trevor, his own twin echoing his look.
Bobby sighed. “It’s not what it sounds like… after you guys died I was a wreck- it took me six months to leave the house- and took eight months for me to want to sing again. I started recording the songs as a tribute for you all- not as a way to steal your music. You guys were my brothers and sisters and you suddenly died and I had to remember you- had to memorialize you somehow. But then I signed a bad contract and they said I couldn’t mention you guys or the fact that I was using your music ever again. I played along and bided by time until I had enough fame to break away from that recording studio. And all the royalties from that album go to charities I know you all would appreciate- Alex’s is to a LGBT+ group that advocates for teens in that community in foster care. Reggie’s is an animal shelter. Luke, yours goes to a music group that teaches teens in poverty how to make music. Sis, I found a musical theater that needed funds so I pour money into their campaign. And Aricka M, I found a dance studio that also teaches the importance of music and art for life lessons.”
The declaration got the young adults on the couch crying. Aricka M finally stood and threw herself in Bobby’s arms. Bobby welcomed the hug, squeezing her tightly and apologizing softly. “Baz…” she whispered, and he hugged her tighter.
“Ari,” he replied. “I never forgot about any of you. In fact- Care, why don’t you tell them your middle name?”
Carrie smiles softly, wetly. “My name is Carolyn Aricka Wilson.”
Everyone looks at Aricka Shaw, whose eyes widened and more tears fell as she embraced her niece once again. “You have my name-,” she whispered.
“Daddy never let me forget about the aunt I never knew,” she says. “That’s why I saw you. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you until you told me.”
Aricka stroked Carrie’s pink hair and the girl curls into her aunt. “I’ll never be upset at you for that, Care. I knew one day Bobby would be a great dad. And look at you- you’re strong and beautiful and so talented. I’m so proud of both of you.”
That was the tipping point for Carrie, and tears fell down the girl’s face. “I-I’m not brave…. I ran away from my best friends,” she says. Aricka looks at Julie; who inches closer to her former friend.
“Carrie… we never talked about why we stopped being friends,” she says. Julie and Carrie walked away to give the phantoms and Trevor some privacy to finish their conversation.
Reggie was the next one to walk over to the two Arickas’ and Trevor. “… You recorded My Name is Luke and Crooked Teeth- as tributes?”
Trevor nods. “You never had a chance to professionally record them. I just- had to do something. The world deserved to hear your songs.”
Alex walked over. “Our brothers- mine and Aricka’s- are they-?”
“Sean is a lawyer and Damien is a foster parent and owns a bar not far from the Orpheum,” Trevor says. “They created the Mercer Scholarship for kids who are musically inclined and want to pursue a music education in college.”
Finally Luke returned to Aricka S’s side. “… so you didn’t just steal our music for the money?”
Trevor gapes and protests, “NO-! It was never about the money for me. It was always about making sure you guys had the chance to be heard. I just wanted to keep you guys alive somehow- even if you weren’t physically there.”
That was all the boys needed to hear before crushing Bobby in a hug- Aricka M and Aricka S joining them. The same yellow glow that they felt when Julie hugged them filled them again and Aricka S sighed in relief.
She had her band back.
She had her brother back.
And she had Carrie back.
Maybe this second chance would give her an opportunity to be the aunt she never got to be.
And maybe, she thought, Reggie and I can finally open that music therapy camp we always wanted to.

Chapter 13: Visitors From Camelot
Arthur and his two Knights arrived at Lake Nostros and marveled once again at the swirling sand, with green undertones.
"Sire…are you sure? There is a good chance we might never see Camelot again if we go through with this," Tristan warned.
"And if we do not…Merlin could return and Camelot will be lost to us all. I must make sure he is silenced," Arthur said.
"Then let us commence in the quest of all quests," Gawain declared. They dismounted their horses and approached the portal. Arthur went first and disappeared into the sand. Tristan and Gawain followed their King loyally and they were gone without a trace…
~*~
Snow stared out the window in the new apartment and saw nothing but tall, privacy fencing. No trees or grass, or even a pond with ducks, so naturally, there was no playground equipment either. Just dreary, gray privacy fencing and concrete. At least with a magical dampening forcefield inside the building, they didn't have to worry about Bobby showing them his abilities. In listening to Shaw and the other agents, they had learned that a small section outside the fenced compound allowed magic, but it was heavily guarded and likely just so they could train and display their abilities for the new overlords. She felt her husband slip his arms around her waist and press a kiss to her hair, which she relished.
"I'm so sorry, my love…" he whispered. She knew that this was the last place they would ever want to raise their son, but choice had been stolen from them by warring government factions that were treating them like aliens instead of human beings. She turned in his arms and surprised him when she slipped her arms around his neck and kissed him passionately.
"None of this is your fault," she assured him once their lips parted and he pressed his forehead against hers.
"That tree…what is it really?" she asked and he wasn't surprised that she knew he wasn't being truthful with the General.
"The tree really is an oak, but it's the sap, herbs, and water inside it that are magical. It grows in Camelot…known as the Avalon oak," he explained.
"Then it is magical…" she realized. He nodded.
"If they figure it out and harness the Avalon mist and the legends about it are real…they could control an entire population," David said. She blew out a breath and then her eyes widened.
"A magic tree…" she said.
"What are you thinking?" he asked.
"Geppetto built the wardrobe from a magical tree…what if it's a portal like that was?" she asked.
"It's definitely possible…and potentially doesn't have a limit on how many people can use it. Even if we could get to it though, there's no way of knowing if we could keep them from following us. But at least we'd be on our own turf again," David replied. She bit her bottom lip and looked down, but he raised her chin.
"Hey…we'll figure this out. We always do," he promised. She smiled and leaned into his touch.
"Together," she agreed, as their lips met again and they went to check on their son.
~*~
"Nice digs," August commented, as he arrived at Cruella's mansion and she immediately went for the liquor cart in the sitting room. She poured herself some gin and downed the liquid.
"Only the best for mummy, dahling," she said.
"So…what exactly is your plan?" August questioned. She smirked.
"I have an inside person…and they just informed me that our heroes have been detained inside an NSA facility to keep tabs on them, at least when they're not fighting off grizzly ogres," she explained.
"So prisoners?" he asked.
"Yes…which means the Dark One will already be plotting their escape, as will chisel chin," she said, pausing for a moment to snicker.
"Prince Charming and the Dark One working together…a tale that no one saw coming," she mentioned. He shrugged.
"David and Rumpelstiltskin aren't all that different if you know the latter's history. They'll do anything for the people they love. They just have different methods, but they'll drop bodies to do it if they have to," August said.
"Oooh…I knew Charmz had a dark side…" she purred and he rolled his eyes.
"Anyway…they'll do anything to escape. Even trust someone like me to help them," Cruella said.
"That's your plan? You help them get out? What's in that for you?" he asked. She smirked.
"Oh dahling…you know those goody goody Charmings will lead me to whoever that pen will accept as its author and then they will write us all a new story," she replied.
"That plan is half baked at best…but if it means getting Emma and her family out of that situation, then I'm in," August said.
"Don't get cocky…if you try double crossing me, I may not be able to kill yet, but I have plenty of hired hands that can," she warned. He visibly gulped and then nodded.
"Now…let's check in with my mole," she said, as she picked up her cell phone.
~*~
Snow and David fell back onto the bed, after a rather vigorous bout of amorous morning lovemaking. They smiled and came together again, exchanging soft kisses and cuddling together in the afterglow. It didn't matter what they were going through, happy or sad times, their love always overcame it all.
"At least some things never change…and that's us," she mentioned. He smiled and caressed her cheek.
"And they never will," he replied, as they heard their son on the baby monitor and smiled.
"I'll feed the little man and you can have the shower first," he said, as he got up and she watched him put his sweat pants on, before going to get their son. She sighed and swooned for a moment, before getting up and heading for the bathroom.
"What are your findings?" General Shaw questioned, as he face-timed with his agents in Maine.
"The tree is giving off the same residual energy, much like this entire place where the town was," one scientist reported.
"We think we're close to a breakthrough," the other scientist said.
"Explain," Shaw demanded.
"The tree's roots are still at a surface level and the tree has not grown roots yet. We need to act quickly, but moving it is possible right now without killing it," the first scientist said.
"Yes…and the dark matter concentration in the tree is even higher than the scattered amounts here in Maine. We think it's enough to do what we want," the second scientist informed.
"Then proceed with this plan and bring the tree here," Shaw ordered, as the screen went dark.
David smiled at his son, as he played with his toys in his playpen. Breakfast was over and David was getting a quick workout in with pushups and lifting hand weights. As he was doing some curls, the apartment doorbell rang and he put the weights down, before grabbing his towel and going to answer the door. He was expecting their daughter and grandson, but behind the door was Agent Becker and another female agent that he didn't recognize.
"What do you want?" David asked, as the two female agents, especially the younger one, were gaping at his shirtless, glistening torso.
"Uh…good morning to you too," Alivia said.
"This is agent Megan Spencer. She's shadowing me and has been read in on our operation," she said. He shrugged.
"And I'm supposed to care…why?" he asked, as he went to the kitchen for some water.
"Wow…you really don't hide your disdain for us," she replied.
"I've been told subtlety and tact aren't my strengths," he answered, as he plucked his son from his playpen.
"Well, there's been a development with the…tree. I thought you'd want in on it, so maybe get dressed and report to Castle," she ordered.
"Fine…Snow and I'll be there soon," he replied.
"Well, you can't bring the kid so someone has to stay behind with him," Alivia said. He snorted.
"Yeah…that's not how we work. We'll be there together, with our son, and you'll just have to deal with it," David argued. She huffed.
"Fine…" Alivia said, as she stormed out and pulled the staring junior agent with her.
"What was that all about?" Snow asked, as she came out from the bedroom, showered and dressed.
"Just Agent Becker trying to bark orders at us. We're supposed to report to Castle soon. There's development with the tree," he said.
"Do you think they've figured out it's magic?" she asked worriedly.
"I don't know…but possibly. It's not going to take them long to figure it out, I'm afraid," he replied, as she took their toddler and he went to clean up as well.
~*~
"Sire…what do you think they're doing with the tree?" Tristan whispered, as the three Knights watched the people they had encountered upon arrival, uprooting the tree and loading into a strange and very large carriage of some type.
"I'm not sure…but they seem to know of its importance," Arthur said.
"We must stop them then and burn the tree," Gawain replied. Arthur nodded and drew his sword. While it was a fake Excalibur, it was still a well crafted weapon.
"Follow my lead," he said, as they emerged from the trees.
"Halt…that tree is property of Camelot!" he announced, as men in black suits swarmed around the scientists in white coats.
"Don't know who you are, pal, but this isn't a renaissance fair. Stand down or we shoot," one agent warned, referring to the chainmail armor they were wearing. The three Knights were very confused by this and advanced anyway. But they were all stopped short, as three agents fired their tasers and collapsed them to the ground.
"We'll transport them back to base with us. The General will be very interested in this development," the lead agent said, as the three men were dragged to one of the trucks.
~*~
"Hey…" Emma greeted her parents, as they arrived at Castle later that morning and she waved at her baby brother, who reached for her. Emma smiled and gladly took him from her mother.
"Hey big guy…" she cooed.
"Nice of you to finally join us…we have hired a nanny to watch him," Alivia said.
"No thanks…we're not leaving him with a stranger and it's non-negotiable," David replied, as they stared each other down and she finally relented, which infuriated her. She wasn't used to losing a battle of wills.
"Fine…" she growled, as she sat down at the situation table.
"Good morning…we've had significant developments with the tree," Shaw said.
"Follow us," he added, as they got up and followed him and Casey outside into the back of the facility. They were in awe when they saw the tree on a flatbed truck, being unloaded.
"Bloody hell…" Killian uttered.
"You moved the tree?" David asked.
"We did…it hadn't taken root yet and we seized the opportunity. We believe it has magical properties, just like the town," Shaw answered. They exchanged subtle, nervous glances.
"But that's not all we found," he said, as three men were led out from one of the trucks. Their handcuffs had been removed, but it was clear that weapons were trained on them and they were stunned again. They didn't know who they were, but the way they were dressed clearly demonstrated that they were likely Knights from their realm.
"Tell us your names," Shaw demanded to know. The dark haired one in the middle clenched his teeth.
"I am a King…I take orders from no one, least of all some lowly peasant like you," he hissed.
"You're King Arthur," David guessed, as all eyes went to him. The King looked surprised.
"How do you know me?" he questioned sharply.
"I…I don't, it's just that this tree is an Avalon Oak and you're probably from Camelot and if you're King, that makes you King Arthur. We've heard of you…and we're from Misthaven," David answered. Arthur narrowed his gaze.
"Misthaven…the rumors were that land and its people were swept up by a Dark Curse by an Evil Queen," he recalled. Regina rolled her eyes.
"Yes…we were brought to this land and once the curse was broken, we found ourselves left to the devices of this world, to make a very long story short," Killian added.
"How did you get to this land?" Shaw demanded to know. Arthur thought for a moment and then looked at the strangers in his midst.
"I'll tell you what you need to know…if you destroy this tree right now," Arthur said.
"Why do you want to destroy a tree?" Emma asked.
"I don't have to explain myself to you, peasant," he snapped.
"Excuse me…but she's my daughter and a Princess," Snow interjected, which surprised Emma.
"You're not the only royalty here, Your Majesty," she added.
"Then to whom am I speaking?" he questioned.
"Snow White…had the Dark Curse not occurred, I would have been Queen of my Kingdom, my husband would have been King and our daughter a Princess. I never throw my royal weight around, but you will at least show some respect," Snow said. David smirked proudly, but the King seemed unfazed.
"You may be Queen of your Kingdom in Misthaven, Your Majesty, but that tree is property of Camelot and I have the authority to do with it as I please," Arthur said.
"We will not be destroying anything, until we know what it is. Now…you'll tell us how you got to this land," Shaw interjected.
"Never," he hissed, as he moved swiftly and grabbed agent Becker, before putting his blade to her neck.
"One nick from Excalibur…and she is dead," he warned, as the agents started to move toward him, but David stalled them.
"He's right…" the Prince said, as he drew his own sword and slowly approached.
"Be careful…" Snow whispered to him, as Emma took her hands.
"Stand down…you seem to know what this blade can do," Arthur said.
"I do…that's why I implore you to let her go and duel me. You win…I'll light that tree on fire myself," David replied. Arthur smirked and shoved the agent away.
"I am a Knight of the Roundtable…do you even need to offer a losing gesture?" he said arrogantly.
"Probably not…but if by some miracle that you do lose, you'll stand down and work with us. We want the same thing…and that's freedom from the controllers of this land," David replied. His Knights scoffed smugly.
"Deal," Arthur said, as he came at David with a downward strike in a very aggressive style. David parried his blade and showed his agility, by weaving around the other seasoned warrior and leaving him shadowboxing. Arthur was surprised. He did not encounter someone outside the Roundtable that could stand two minutes against him, let alone give him a challenge. They shuffled along the full expanse of the courtyard, in an exchange of furious strikes and blocks. Arthur grew frustrated and elbowed David in the gut, taking him down to one knee, but the Prince proved his agility by hand springing back to his feet in time to block another vicious strike.
"Wow…I knew Dad was good, but I mean this is King Arthur. Isn't he supposed to be a Legend?" Emma asked.
"Supposed to be, but this one is clearly only a Legend in his own mind," Neal replied.
"Yeah…he's kind of a douche. So much for honor and all that crap," Emma commented. Killian smirked.
"His hubris will allow your father a well deserved win," Killian mentioned, as Rumple watched with a narrowed gaze.
"What do you see?" Belle asked.
"David is clearly the better swordsman, but with Excalibur, that shouldn't matter as much. It's supposed to give an edge, no matter how skilled the opponent is," Rumple answered.
"Which means?" Belle asked quietly.
"It means either Arthur is a horrible swordsman…or something is not right with his weapon. Perhaps both," Rumple answered.
Arthur's frustration showed, as he continued to shadowbox and let out a battle cry, slashing furiously at David, who managed to keep up with his parries. The King backed David toward the building, hoping to corner him and David blocked a strike, meant for his throat. The King's desperation was clear in his eyes and he had lost all pretenses of a challenging duel and wanted to either kill or humiliate David at this point. The Prince's head was still clear though and he turned Arthur's blade aside. The King's eyes widened, as David kneed him in the stomach and then rolled over his back, as he bent over. He didn't stop there and flicked his wrist, using the hilt of his blade to check the King's wrist, causing him to drop his sword, while bringing the tip of his blade to the King's throat.
"Yield…" David said. Arthur clenched his teeth, but relented to the victor and David stepped back, before sheathing his sword. Snow couldn't contain her pride and rushed to him, before throwing her arms around him and kissing his cheek. He smiled and kissed her soundly on the lips.
"Well…Your Majesty, it seems that King Arthur in all his lore was no match for Prince Charming," Shaw commented.
"Now…it would be wise for you to tell us what the significance of this tree is and why you would want to destroy it. It would also be in your best interest to tell us how you go here," he added.
"I will tell you nothing…and you will release me and my Knights now! I am a King!" he said hotly.
"We made a deal," David said, bur Arthur ignored him and seethed at being humiliated by the Prince.
"You're not King in this land and your land has caused quite the number of calamities in our land. Creatures and magic from your land have seeped into this one. That's why I have formed this taskforce of people from your land to help vanquish these threats, led by the victor of your little duel," Shaw replied.
"If you join, the perks of some freedoms can be allotted to you," he added.
"And if we don't join you?" Arthur asked.
"Then I'm afraid you'll be sequestered in our compound until you cooperate," Shaw answered.
"Tell me how you knew some of those moves. Your style is a mix like I haven't seen, but some of those executions are only taught to Knights of the Roundtable," Arthur said, as he looked at David.
"Our friend Lancelot gave me a few lessons and spars," David answered. Arthur and his Knights sneered.
"If you are friends with Lancelot…then you're our enemy!" Arthur said, as he lunged toward them. Snow yelped, as David pulled her away and Emma reacted naturally, as a burst of pure white magic immobilized the three Knights.
"Get away from my parents," she growled, as the King's face showed surprise. She released them and they were cuffed again.
"You…you have magic," he uttered, with a tremor in his voice, as they were led away into the compound.
"So…any ideas why he would want to destroy this tree?" Casey asked. David shrugged and looked at Rumple.
"No idea, dearie…" he answered. The tree was clearly magic, but Rumple was reluctant to elaborate on that.
"For now…our team of scientists will continue to analyze the tree. The rest of you may proceed back to your residences," Shaw said, as they went back inside.
"Family dinner?" Henry asked. They smiled and nodded. If Henry asked, it was less likely to seem suspicious for them to gather in one apartment.
"How about lasagna in my apartment?" she asked. They agreed and headed there.

so what if for when the boys do see trevor face to face for the first time trevor is just staring at them with the same disbelief he had seeing them on stage. luke is already ranting, he’s upset and trevor knows he upset and knows why, but he isn’t really able hear him. too caught up in the fact that they’re here actually talking to him. looking like nothing bad ever happened. and sure they’re a little see through but they seem solid enough that trevor can’t stop himself from testing just how real they are.
so in the middle of luke’s rant of stolen legacies and forgotten dreams trevor pulls him into a hug, he has no idea julie makes them touchable he just had try. it’s not that trevor wasn’t listening or didn’t care but he’s too scared of passing up the chance to actually hug his best friend again after so much time. he can’t let them slip through his fingers. not this time. the anger dies down and almost immediately luke stops talking caught off guard. he doesn’t pull away. the anger is still there, turning to a simmer instead of a hot boiling over mess. it’s still something they’ll all talk about properly but right now the sting of the betrayal is soothed. just by a little. the ache in his heart grows though. resentment lingers but so does something firmiliar softer. the adoration he once had for the now older man is still there. somewhere.
luke can’t bring himself to be angry and bitter in that moment. he melts a little, the tension in him breaks briefly wrapped in trevor bobby’s arms because that’s his best friend and he misses him so much that it hurts just as much as the lack of credit does.
it takes a moment for luke to process and hug back but when he does he’s clinging so tightly. trevor is so much taller now he can rest his chin on luke’s head. it shakes him to his core. if he wasn’t holding onto luke he wouldn’t trust his legs to not give out because he feels so real it’s hard to believe. they’re both crying and it sort of feels like the world comes to a screeching halt but it doesn’t really matter. they’re only aware enough to notice that alex and reggie have joined in the hug gripping on like they’ll disappear at any moment. with the boys’ luck they might. none of them dwell on that though. focusing on being together again. they got their best friend back. at least in that moment.
it’s only when they all pull away that it all comes crashing down. the reality of what trevor did and all the changes he’s been through fully and painfully hits. the anger boils back up and burns luke’s throat. it’s the aftermath that hurts more and despite it been 25 years in the making trevor isn’t sure he’s ready to face all the ghosts of his past least of all the ones he created.

sorry sorry, I'm spamming but I had this idea ages ago for a Luke Patterson x reader where the reader is an artist that does cover art for sunset curve promo.
Hear me out on this one; Luke tries to teach the reader how to play guitar and the reader tries to teach Luke how to draw. It doesn't end well, the reader is embarrassed that they can not play an instrument to save their life and Luke is embarrassed that he can't draw something as simple as a dog. But it's that thing where Luke finds it cute that the reader can't play even though they're trying hard and the reader finds it cute that Luke can't draw even though they are trying hard. And it just ends up all cute and mushy and ilysm I'm gonna marry you someday vibes.
i am once again reminding you that i miss jatp with every fiber of my being
masterlist
Tumblr media
You are absolutely hopeless. It was one thing to sign up for this sort of job– artist by hour, some sort of after school nonsense that you were fitting in around your courseload so you could try and make at least a little bit of money– but it’s something entirely different to get involved in it like this.
Looking back, there was no reason for you to ever start feeling this way. When Sunset Curve first reached out to you over the opportunity to do the official art for their demo album, you were thrilled. They already had a decent sized following despite just having started, and you’d never created anything half so important as this. That’s how it felt, at least, like you were on the cusp of something new, something brighter than you’d ever experienced before. If only you knew how right you truly were.
It wasn’t just the job that was special, though, it was the people. Sunset Curve is made up of the four funniest, kindest, most amazing boys to ever walk the earth. You’re definitely not biased in that regard, not in the slightest. Reggie Peters cares more than anyone you’ve met before. Alex Mercer looks out for you every single minute of every single day. Bobby Shaw recognizes the potential in everyone who crosses his path.
And Luke? Luke Patterson, who greeted you with the widest smile you’ve ever seen the second he met you? Luke, who really should just be a friend? You couldn’t pin him down to one specific phrase if you tried. Luke is everything– creative, bold, bright, you name it. More importantly, he’s everything to you, but that’s because you happen to harbor a crush on him.
You couldn’t shake the aforementioned crush if you tried, but oh, how you wish you could. It does not do to spend every afternoon over there in Sunset Curve’s studio, pretending you’re sketching new designs for them or doing your homework when in reality you’re just wishing Luke might finally look up from his guitar and finally notice you as something other than a background character to his stellar world.
It’s not like Luke’s an asshole about it, it’s just true. Luke Patterson is so out of your league it’s crazy. Why would he ever look at you as something other than a friend or glorified coworker? Reggie and Alex have teased him enough times about flirting with anything that breathes that you know better than to overthink so much as a smile from him. Just because you happen to think the world of Luke doesn’t mean that he has to do the same thing about you.
That doesn’t stop you from almost losing your mind every time you hang out with the boy, though. In fact, you’re alone with Luke right now, and even though it’s pretty obvious Luke doesn’t take this to be anything other than a chance to spend time with a friend, you’re one accidental brush of hands away from screaming.
You had headed over to the boys’ studio early so you could think about some new designs for their albums, both the demo one and potential future numbers. You were given a key to the place a long time ago; the members of Sunset Curve accepted you with open arms and open doors back when you first started drawing for the band.
Apparently they like having someone else there to force them to actually be productive and make music, but you’re not too sure about that. You swear that you end up talking to the boys for even longer than they manage to distract themselves, although that’s more fun than anything in your book.
So, although you didn’t expect anyone to have issues with you showing up to the studio unannounced, you also weren’t expecting Luke to be there alone. You stand there for a moment, hovering over the threshold, wondering if you should leave or take this as your chance to finally get closer to him.
Luke sees you and spares you from the indecision. “Come on in, Y/N. I’m not doing a whole lot, just practicing.”
You smile at him and step inside. “Technically, if you’re practicing that’s something. I just don’t want to bother you if you’re in a songwriting mood.”
Luke makes a face. “I would love to be in a songwriting mood, but the lyrics just don’t want to come. Please tell me you’re here as a distraction.”
You laugh. “I can be an excellent distraction when I wish, but I’m not all that interesting today. Just trying to get some ideas for a potential album cover.”
Luke watches you excitedly as you reach inside your bag for your sketchbook and some drawing supplies. “Are you kidding? That’s super interesting to me. Tell me, what direction is your grand artistic vision pulling you in now?”
You swat him lightly with your sketchbook. “There’s nothing grand about it, trust me. I’m here because I’m just as stuck as you are. Are you sure your next album can’t just have a completely blank design? Maybe one solid square of color? It would make it a lot easier on me.”
“Absolutely not,” Luke declares, “you’re already robbing us of our hard-earned cash, we at least deserve some designs in the bargain.”
The easy grin on his face tells you that he doesn’t mean a word of it. Luke and the other members of Sunset Curve have made it quite clear that they value your presence, both in art and in friendship. Besides, you have discounts when it comes to people you care about, and the members of this band are certainly that indeed.
“Well,” you smile, “if that’s the case, I’d better get on it.”
Luke watches as you do some thumbnail sketches for potential designs. His eyes never seem to leave your pencil as you shade in piano keys or trace the outline of a guitar.
At last, he breaks his meditative silence to pose a question. “How are you doing that?” He asks plaintively, “Every time I try to draw something, it takes me forever and ends up being a big eraser smudge. When you do it, though, you take two seconds and have a masterpiece.”
“I’ve been doing this for a lot longer than you have,” you remind him, “practice makes perfect, trust me on that. My first so-called masterpieces were just as full of eraser marks as yours.”
Luke harrumphs. “You’re just saying that. Embrace the fact that you’re extremely cool.”
“You’re just as cool as I am,” you counter, “you may be in awe of my art skills, but I think your music is way more impressive.”
Luke’s jaw drops. “No way. Half the time you’re in here, I’m messing up my chords.”
You grin. “That’s not true, and even if it was, that still makes you better than I am. I can’t even remember what a chord is, let alone how to play it right even half the time.”
Luke sits up straight, an idea occurring to him. “You know what? We can fix that. Let’s have a skills session. You teach me art and I’ll teach you music.”
“Just like that?” You ask, doubtful but smiling nonetheless.
“Just like that,” Luke confirms, and after that it’s decided.
Luke reaches over to grab his guitar. He places it on your lap, moving close to you so he can help guide your hands into position. You think your breathing might stop entirely from how it feels to have Luke’s breath hot on your cheek, his fingers wrapped around yours as he teaches you a chord. If you look up slightly, you can see how his face, no, his entire being is angled towards you. It is the most marvelous sight you have ever experienced.
Despite the beauty of the boy teaching you, your own mastery is far less substantial than you’d like. You can feel the shame of it heating up your cheeks as Luke reminds you of what you’re supposed to be learning for the umpteenth time. Watching Sunset Curve practice, you’d always wondered why you never picked up an instrument. This is reminding you of that reason:  you’re absolutely awful at it.
Eventually, your desire to seem at least somewhat capable in front of Luke wins out over your need to be so close to him and you carefully put the guitar in his lap.
“I think that’s enough for now,” you whisper, glancing away, “at this point, teaching me music is a lost cause.”
Luke shakes his head. “Hey, don’t feel too discouraged. It took me forever to learn. You wouldn’t believe how awful my fingerpicking was when I first started. You’re blowing my first attempts out of the water by a long shot, trust me.”
You laugh. “Somehow I find that hard to believe.”
Luke’s eyes are wide and earnest. “No, it’s true. Besides, I see this as an absolute win. If you can’t play the guitar, it means you need me around more often.”
Smiling, you ask:  “And is that a good thing?”
“Most certainly,” Luke breathes, and you think you might die just there, watching him look at you like you were worth so much more than you ever thought.
Luke comes to reality first, and looks away quickly, a faint pink blossoming over his cheeks. “If we’re trying to learn how bad we are at each other’s habits, though, I think it’s my turn to fail. It’s time for art lessons.”
You flip to a fresh page in your sketchbook and pass it over. Luke holds the thing reverently, and only through severe coaching do you manage to convince him to actually grip it tight enough to keep the paper steady. He keeps claiming that he doesn’t want to hurt such precious contents, but you think it might also just be a ploy to keep you laughing even just a little longer.
As much as you hate to admit it, Luke’s fears about not being able to pick up drawing might be true. You swear you give him easy subjects to start off, and despite an abundance of furrowed brows and studious expressions, Luke and art do not mix.
At last, he looks up at you desolately and holds up graphite stained hands for you to witness. “See? It’s a losing battle, I swear.”
You bite back a smile. “It’s just like you told me about guitar, isn’t it? All you need is practice.”
You think you wouldn’t mind being there for a few more art practice sessions, either. Something about the way Luke is so devoted to trying to get this right, and all the while watching you draw out examples like you’re a living saint, makes your chest feel so tight that it might burst. You would gladly sink the rest of your afternoons and sunsets into these sorts of moments, walled up in the studio with Luke, losing track of time until you have no idea where your days begin and his end.
Luke must be feeling the same way, because he leans a little closer to you. “I’m not sure I believe it, but I wouldn’t mind more practice sessions with you. We wouldn’t even have to draw or play guitar if you didn’t want to. If you’re alright with that, of course. We could just, you know, hang out.”
The hope in his eyes is only matched by the delight in yours. “I think that sounds great,” you say.
Luke’s face brightens. “Really? I mean, yeah, it would be fun. Maybe we could go get ice cream soon.”
“Tell me a date, I’ll make time,” you reply. You’ll clear your entire schedule if that’s what it takes. This is something that you didn’t see happening in your wildest dreams, and now that it’s real, you don’t plan on giving it up for anything.
Luke lifts a shoulder. “How about Saturday afternoon? We can go anywhere.”
You could gladly spend the rest of the day just talking over the prospect of this date with Luke, but a sound from outside the studio makes you bite your tongue. You can see Alex, Reggie, and Bobby approaching the door– it must be time for the band to have practice.
Luke groans. “They have terrible timing.”
You laugh. “They didn’t know anything was happening, that’s their fault. I know everything I want, though.”
You don’t think Luke’s smiles have ever been brighter than the one he shoots you now. For once, you realize a most welcome truth:  all this time that you’ve been pining over Luke, he’s been feeling the exact same way. At last, the two of you have been able to get together, and you couldn’t be happier about it.
requested by @thatfangirl42, i hope you enjoy!
