The first last weekend
We are in the final weeks or months, it seems. The rest is bullets…
It was a time to visit known favorite loops: Sienna Blaw's DGAF Bald Witch.
It was a time to see new favorite loops: Taylor Massa's DGAF Fate Witch.
Another known favorite, in their last turn as Lady Macbeth, Marija Obradovic. Leaving it all on the field, on the dance floor, as did…
Jenna Saccurato as Nurse and then Bald Witch, absolutely feral, all out, turned up to eleven, all the adjectives and adjectival phrases. I made a point of being in the ballroom 3rd loop and indeed Jenna got lifted and deserved every clap and cheer and whoop in the place, and there were many.
Also leaving and duly noted, Jeff Docimo as Macbeth and Porter, Andrew Pastides as Porter.
I totally missed Nate Carter as Taxidermist (and earlier, EAM). It wasn't for lack of looking, but I tried the shop and the Macduffs' and the cemetery, right place / wrong time I guess. This is partly a symptom of me taking the stairs in now, to try and get to the ballroom more quickly, so I don't even know who is working the elevator.
Wasn't trying for the PIB 1:1, just wanted water, but hey, if someone hands me a note that says "Follow Me" then that's what I'll do. At least, in the McKittrick.
Kind of a bummer to see a group of fans stage-dooring for autographs and photos, when all the exits are right there on 27th and most folks probably just want to get dinner on their break between shows. Eh.
Fun to watch Will Boyajian's show a couple times. Like watching a magician and trying to figure out how the trick works. Oh, here's where he's dissembling and stalling for time, pretending not to know something, etc.
How long has Porchlight been open late just around the corner, with food, at least on Fridays and Saturdays?
Related Extracurricular #1: Derrick Belcham videos at Williamsburg Biannual. Many familiar faces: Lily Ockwell, Emily Terndrup, Bobbi Jene Smith, and so on. I stayed for close to two hours, could've stayed all day.
Related Extracurricular #2: Kelly Todd's Endangered Species at 280 Gibney. Intense, strange, darkly funny, and by the end, moving. Lots of good folks onstage and in the audience.
The city that never sleeps sure does sleep a lot these days. I guess COVID-19 takes a lot of the blame. Anyway, walking out on a Sunday night into the cold drizzle looking for food, getting turned away at the aforementioned Porchlight, and not finding anything open for several crosstown blocks until a perfectly fine, perfectly generic IrishPubCo (which was almost empty and almost closed). Of course what mattered was the company (which was stellar), not the venue.
I shall return, maybe not for the last last but at least for some in-between.

Pit - Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber
With a modern and figurative stage set, intertwining Sibelius' Violin Concerto with a musical creation by Celeste Oram, Pit takes the audience into a sensual, tribal and dramatic universe.
Both trained at the Batsheva Dance Company under Ohad Naharin, Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber present Pit, their first creation for the Paris Opera Ballet.
Born in Iowa, Bobbi Jene Smith joined Batsheva in 2005. In 2014, she embarked on a career as a choreographer, creating works for the Martha Graham Dance Company, the L.A. Dance Project and the Royal Danish Ballet. Born in Israel, Or Schraiber joined Naharin’s Company in 2010. He has directed, choreographed and acted in several short films.
Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber share a strong attraction to the world of cinema, and they starred and danced in Aviva in 2020.

A Dramatic Performance by Juilliard Students Brings a Socially Distant Approach to Ravel’s Boléro
May 4, 2020 Grace Ebert
Maurice Ravel’s Boléro is a particularly collaborative composition in that it passes the melodic theme through a series of solos. The sequential performances highlight the distinct tones and sounds of each instrument, whether it be a flute, violin, or the anomalous saxophone. In a spectacular new project, dozens of Juilliard students who now are quarantined in their respective homes bring a socially distant approach to the classic orchestral composition. What makes it especially impressive, though, is not just appearances by famous alumni—watch for Yo-Yo Ma, Laura Linney, Patti LuPone, and Itzhak Perlman—but because it coordinates the instrumental piece in addition to a range of dramatic and choreographed elements that appear to transcend individual frames.

PIT, opéra Garnier
Chorégraphes : Bobbi Jene Smith et Or Schraiber
Bon.

Their first joint production received an Academy Award nomination. Now Oscar Isaac and Elvira Lind are ramping up Mad Gene Media under a first-look deal with Endeavor Content, hoping to build on the success of “The Letter Room” with a wide array of future projects. The married couple, who are raising two children together, are building this banner while Isaac stars in high-profile offerings such as “Moon Knight” and “Scenes From a Marriage.”
“We’re not always on 24/7; I’d say 23/7,” Isaac says.
“We never sleep,” Lind adds.
The couple launched Mad Gene Media in 2019, and recently hired Gena Konstantinakos as head of development and production, after working with her on their Oscar-nominated short film.
Konstantinakos was formerly VP of originals for First Look Media’s Topic and executive produced “The Letter Room,” which starred Isaac as a warm-hearted prison officer and was written and directed by Lind. Isaac also served as executive producer on the short.
“One of the things I’ve noticed about the two of you is the deep, mutual respect that you bring to every conversation with one another on each project. It’s a really wonderful aspect of the dynamic,” Konstantinakos says.
Isaac and Lind’s collaborative relationship extends from their home to their production banner, named after their two children, Mads and Eugene.
“There’s no one I trust more for an artistic mind than Elvira,” Isaac says. “So whatever I’m going to do, I want her to read. Whatever I make, I want to see her notes. Anything she can contribute is incredibly helpful. It’s been a very natural progression. Now it has an official stamp on it.”
The Mad Gene team has plans to develop documentaries, feature films, TV series, graphic novels, plays and podcasts. Within that slate will be Lind’s directorial feature debut and other vehicles in which Isaac will star and produce.
Prior to “The Letter Room,” which was the couple’s first formal collaboration, Lind focused on documentaries such as “Songs for Alexis” in 2014 and “Bobbi Jene,” which picked up awards at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017. While Konstantinakos was working at VICE, she executive produced Lind’s doc series “Twiz and Tuck,” marking the first time the pair would work together.
“We talked about having that haven, where you can nurture things to life,” Lind says. “From the get-go, we were really inspired by each other. Whatever we were doing, we found ways to collaborate. It was always a dream for both of us to have a production company.”
For Isaac, Mad Gene represents a new, exciting chapter in his career.
“I think it’s a pivot into a different space, where we have a bit more control and architecture, more agency over who we work with, what we work on, what kind of things we do together,” he says.
And Isaac says that he’d love to work with his “Star Wars” alum and pal Pedro Pascal “sooner rather than later.”
“We’ve seen how great it is to be a team,” Lind says. “Gena, with all her talent and wisdom, is taking it to a whole other level. That’s huge, it feels like it really has begun. We’re so excited, it’s coming together in a whole new way now.”

HELLO YES @musings-of-a-rose exactly that!!! Like, don't worry about VFX -- just rather the whole lot and put it on a blu ray disc. You need designers for the packaging or even a shirt design? There's fans who would do a professional job for free if it meant this could get released (tho I'm sure there'll be Netflix interns who could do this too).
Concerns about the cost of producing a Blu Ray/box set? Make it a digital download package/sell it through an online store. There's sooo many ways to go at this. Please take our money - we just want to see more and a sequel.
Need a script/ideas for Triple Frontier 2? There's a shockingly large amount of fans who are also fic writers that could present you with great ideas - or simply bring a few into a writers room to pick their brains. We'll give you so much background info on the characters (that's been developed throughout the years) that the original cast will be interested in a sequel because there's so much depth and detail, and you'll eventually have a solid premise.
Need a (co)director? Here, we got ya - how about Elvira Lind?
She developed "The Letter Room" (in which Oscar starred) which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film (2021), a Palm Springs Intl Shortfest nomination for Best U.S. Short (2020), and a Tribeca Film Festival nom for Best Narrative Short (2020). It also won a whole bunch of awards (and got more noms) at other festivals, as did her documentary Bobbi Jene. She's been doing a lot of other work in film and photography too.
Is she an obvious choice, considering JC Chandor directed the original movie? No, but all the better. If she would take on a project like this (she and Oscar have their own media production company, Mad Gene), she would be very invested, plus she very much knows the cast - even beyond the main actors, who she's close to for obvious reasons, as she was there in Hawaii while the movie was shot (and shared tons of photos). Again; a great choice of (co)director if you want somebody who focuses on details and interpersonal relationships. Since Charlie Hunnam is signed on already as a potential producer in case TF2 would ever happen, you can link them up.
@netflix are you reading this, babes?
(yes, I'm getting carried away, but stranger things have happened and much, much less popular media has gotten sequels. You don't even need another $100 million to produce TF2)
🚨 Triple Frontier concept art + "new" old photos! 🚨
I'm so excited about this! During a TF search spiral (don't we all have those?) I actually hit gold when I stumbled across Greg Berry's website. He was the Production Designer of the movie and made a book as something for the crew to look back at - and as an intro to the film.
It's really worth a look, because it has gorgeous concept art, pictures of certain spaces (the bar, Lorea's house) before they shot and how they envision it to be. There's also an image for the storage container, but this seems to be considerably smaller and different than what they ended up using.
CHECK OUT THE FULL BOOK AT https://www.gregberry1.com/film/triple-frontier
Obviously, there are also pictures of the guys which we've never seen those before. YAY!! Or actually - I shared a cropped pic of Benny with some friends and I noticed that one made it onto a Garrett fan IG already the other day, haha. But aside of that... gorgeous 'new' old stuff. I've cropped those images from the website for your convenience, so hope you'll enjoy! I don't own any of this obviously, it's all Greg Berry (bless him), so if you share these pics elsewhere please credit the man and link to his site... it's only fair!
HELLO Francisco putting on his tact vest 💜 Some close ups (nobody likes you Tom, go away):
Benny, Santi, go find your caps!
Fucking love this picture. Why were we robbed from this happening in good light? Francisco... check you out.
Let's see some more of Santiago:
Love love love. Here's when they find Lorea:
Have some Will crops.
And last but definitely not least - where are the Benny girlies at? You're getting FED:
Bonus picture: the shot below from an interview with Mark Russell about the VFX in TF
Once again, definitely go check out the art book - it's gorgeous!

Like, I haven’t seen Bobbi Jene yet, but I’d rather Elvira didn’t include that scene of Oscar Isaac randomly showing up and screaming at the scared pretty dancing lady for no real reason.
That’s just too strange.
