All you Need to Know About the Car Lip Spoilers
Aftermarket spoilers are a common addition for both aesthetic and functional purposes. For example, a car lip spoiler's primary function is to provide an aesthetic accent, but it also has the potential to increase the vehicle's aerodynamics, speed, handling, and fuel efficiency.
Tumblr media
What exactly are lip spoilers, though?
Car lip spoilers are affixed to the upper edge of the bumper at the vehicle's front or back. There is a range of sizes available for lip spoilers. More extensive spoilers show that the automobile has been lowered, while more minor spoilers give the vehicle a more understated and refined aspect.
How do Lip Spoilers function?
If you've ever watched a professional racing car, vehicle lip spoilers are probably seen in action. While doing so, they are used to reduce drag and lift, in addition to downforce. The vehicle can lose significant performance if the wind gets trapped below it. Instead of passing beneath the car, lip spoilers allow airflow to move along the sides of the vehicle and over the hood.
The Issues that Occur with Conventional Lip Spoilers
They are Not Affordable
Car lip spoilers can potentially boost a vehicle's performance, but they also have certain drawbacks. To begin, spoilers have a high propensity for being pricey. No one wants to invest their real income in improving their vehicle's performance. The Vorsteiner front lip is a unique purchase regardless of the cost.
2.      They are challenging to set up correctly
Car lip spoilers are purchased for the most apparent purpose: to improve the vehicle's appearance. However, lowering a car is not an option for many people. It takes a significant investment of both time and money and specialized knowledge. Additionally, the structure of the vehicle undergoes irreversible modification due to lowering.
3.      They Require a Particularly Tailored Fitting
It is not simple to track down the appropriate lip spoiler designed to fit your vehicle. Furthermore, even if you discover a lip spoiler that seems like it would work, there is still a possibility that the installation may not go as planned.
Tumblr media
The high-quality rubber created in the United States is flexible and long-lasting, making it possible for you to shape it to fit your BMW f30 lip spoiler. The only thing left to do is shape the lip around the bumper and cut off the extra length with scissors.
Front spoilers decrease the quantity of air that passes below the car. More downforce is generated by the car's spoilers in the back, where the airflow is often more turbulent and generates more lift. This helps the vehicle remain firmly planted on the road. Opinion: The obsession with sportiness has ruined sedans and coupes for the average buyer. via /r/cars
Opinion: The obsession with sportiness has ruined sedans and coupes for the average buyer.
In 1990, the Lincoln Town Car was America's favorite luxury car. Cadillac had two full sized sedans (both landbarges), and Lexus only sold two cars, the LS and ES, both boats.
Sometime in the 90s the BMW 3 series really broke out and the "sport sedan" concept really took off. BMW had smash hit after smash hit in the luxury car market by selling a different kind of luxury - performance luxury.
The market adapted, and slowly automakers shifted their lineups. Floatiness is out, sportiness is in. Every sedan is a sport sedan, and every coupe had to be a performance coupe.
From Motor Trend to Top Gear, the journalists keep hammering in the idea that sportiness is good. They complain incessantly about steering feel, about body lean. The idea that sportiness is good exams ingrained in the brains of the average buyer. Big wheels with skinny tires are a mainstream thing now, big brakes are common, and suspensions got a lot stiffer. Vents (real or fake) are everywhere, every other car has some sort of "sport" badge.
In fact, I feel like we've reached an era of compulsory sportiness. The Chevrolet Cruz gets HID headlights in the RS package, but with it comes a stiffer suspension and bigger wheels. Or how Lexus F sport packages are a common way to get numerous common features like auto wipers, but of course the package also comes with stiffer suspension and giant wheels.
Notice here that I mentioned sporty, and not performance. Chevy puts a tiny spoiler on the Cruze, it makes the car look sporty, but does it really benefit performance to any measurable degree? Even if things like stiff suspension setups benefit performance, the average driver who uses their car as a way to get from a-b will never enjoy the benefits of these sporty enhencements. What I am talking about is percieved sportiness, not objective performance criteria.
The issue here is, many of these sporty enhencements have noticable downsides. Large wheels and stiff suspensions negatively impact ride quality. Large brakes cost more to replace. Summer tires perform poorly in bad weather.
For the longest time, automakers have realized that sportiness sells. So year after year, product lines become more and more sporty. Steering becomes heavier. Fake vents get stuck on more cars, ride quality becomes harsher, more and more cars leave the factory looking like they've been owned by someone who frequents the pep boys cosmetics isle.
Yet here's the thing: the average American new car buyer is 53 years old. Hell, the average American is 37, the average German is 46, and the average Japanese person is 46. If we assume that people get their licenses at around 18, the average driver must be somewhere between ~50 - 60 in most developed countries.
For years, the floaty luxury sedan like a town car or ES were thought of as old man's cars. Well the reality of the matter is, society is aging. In most developed countries, the average adult is pushing 50 to 60. Yet the sedan and coupe market keeps focusing on sportiness. Every car nowadays at least pays lip service to sportiness, even the Avalon, ES, S class, and A8. Gone are the Town Cars, Devilles, and Park Avenues of old. When the aging society means that the average buyer is an old, automakers have abandoned the segments that old men and women traditionally liked.
The market has shifted away from the sedan and coupe market towards the crossover market en mass, and can you blame them? If you want a non-sporty car, you pretty much have to get a crossover or an SUV. The old Town Car buyer buys Navigators now.
Hell, even if you look at sedan sales, the XTS, a sedan with almost no sporting pretensions was by far the best selling Cadillac sedan. The ES was also the best selling Lexus sedan. Hell, the BMW F30 3 series sold a lot better than the E90, despite the fact that the E90 was supposedly a lot sportier.
For the longest time, I used to joke that the automotive world lived under the tyranny of sportiness. Well with Mazda dropping their Zoom-Zoom tag line and refusing to introduce Mazdaspeed, I think the writing is finally on the wall for the endless chase for sportiness. I think the car market as a whole has finally figured out it's pointless to chase sportiness when the vast majority of people will never push their cars anyways.

Reader’s Corner: Sakhir Orange BMW M3 F80 Project
David Zhou, a reader of BMWBLOG, is sharing with us his Sakhir Orange BMW M3 F80 Project which received a wide range of performance upgrades.
As we all know, the F80 generation is coming to an end and we are eagerly awaiting for the G80 M3 to come out. For me, this give me an opportunity to make something very special with the F80 as most modifications are out for the car already so that I have so many options to play around with when making this build.
Having owned a Dinan tuned M235i in the past, this is my first true M car. I have always dreamed about owning a M3 not only due to its legendary history but also how aggressive the F80 looks compares to its competitors. As to choosing between a M3 or a M4, to me it was a no brainer as M3 looks much more masculine with the wide hips where as the M4 looks more fluid, also, having four doors makes it very practical for daily use, this M3 was not going to be garage queen.
By the time I decided to purchase a M3, BMW Canada was no longer taking new orders so I had to do my research and see what I can find out of the existing stock. Luckily, I was able to find this 2017 F80 M3 at BMW Sherbrook with the combination I was looking for – ZUP package, DCT, Sakhir Orange exterior with full merino leather interior. And the best part, I am the first owner as this was a showroom demo.
Not long after getting the car, I got in touch with Ryan at IND Distribution and we started making a list of the upgrades that I wanted to do to make this car into a showcar level. Matt at RW Carbon was kind enough to work with me on getting most of the exterior carbon pieces for the car and Prapan at NVD Autosports for the interior carbon pieces. Along the way, I also dealt with other vendors online that helped me to make this project possible.
Most of the parts were installed at the Budds BMW dealership and Budds collision for the paint job with the help of Stephen, Paolo, Ian and the team. Stephen helped me with my Dinan parts for the M235i and we went with Dinan again for this M3 as well. Of course, with an investment like this, we can’t skip out on protection as well, so a full XPEL wrap was done by Sekanskin to give that extra satin look and protection.
Going forward, I am looking forward to doing a bit more for the interior, doing a bit more personal touches to it and make it even more unique. I am also looking forward to taking it to different car shows to share the love with fellow BMW drivers, with a build like this, on the road and sharing the love/displaying it with fellow drivers is where it belongs.
There are so many people that are involved in this project, I just want to give a quick shootout to all my online vendors – Active Autowerke, BlackboxMyCar, Dinmann, EAS, IND, JBSpeed, ModBargin, NVD Autosport, RW Carbon, Studio RSR. Also to my local shops – Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists, BMW Sherbrooke, Budds’ Collision Services Ltd., Budds BMW Oakville, Fanshawe Motors, Scotty’s Shine Shop, Sekanskin.
