What may look like an ordinary topless BMW 3 Series in fact is a true gem: a somehow Targa styled BMW Baur Topcabriolet TC2 based on the standard E30 BMW.

Since 1927 coachbuilder Baur, founded in 1910 in the Stuttgart district Berg, manufactured in small series convertibles based on Wanderer and Horch chassis. In the 1930s, Cabriolets were also built on a DKW and BMW basis. After World War II, production was continued in 1950 for DKW, later with  complete vehicles of the Dyna-Veritas. This was followed by bodywork for the BMW 501/502. The complete production of the Maico 500 started in 1956. And in 1957 the Auto Union 1000 SP was built by Baur as well as the BMW 700 convertible and a little later the BMW 700 LS Coupé. Starting in 1967, the construction of convertibles based on BMW vehicles was continued with the BMW 1600-2 and the BMW 2002. From 1978, the so-called top convertibles based on the 3 Series were produced: from the TC1 (BMW E21) in 4,595 units to the TC2 (BMW E30) like this one here with 10,867 vehicles. In between there was still time for the final production of the Bitter CD (395 copies), the Opel Kadett Aero (1,341 pieces) and the BMW M1 (399 pieces). Last of these Topcabriolets was the BMW 3 Series E36 TC4 with still 310 copies. This chapter lasted until the early 1990s, when BMW was already producing convertibles itself.
