1989 BMW Z1

BMW Technik was given the green light to proceed with what became the Z1 concept in August 1985. Z stood for Zukunft, the German word for future.

One year later, the first road-going Z1 prototype had been completed and BMW management were so impressed they immediately sanctioned a production run.

The Z1 was subsequently unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1987 where it debuted alongside the E30 3-series Touring and the E38 750i (which was powered by Germany’s first post-war twelve cylinder engine).

Production started at BMW’s Munich plant in October 1988. By this time, amid a surging market for high end collector cars and low volume specials, the company had already taken over 4000 pre orders.

I like station wagons. Few are on the market anymore. What does a BMW 750i look like as a wagon? Not bad. This probably wasn't too difficult for AI, seeing as how in Europe there are wagon versions of the 3- and 5-series BMWs available. I also wanted a wagon version of a Ferrari 308 GTS (Magnum PI's car). AI just didn't get it and served up images of a normal 308 but with weird headlights.

In my head, Anakin in this AU absolutely loves his car. He’s always been into fast cars and his M4 is his pride and joy because it was his first big splurge after he got his job (his very well-paying job btw). He likes to tinker with it himself, changes his own oil and does other routine maintenance. Maybe has a racing stripe painted on it.

And the backseat is deceptively roomy for a coupe, especially when the front seats are pushed all the way forward.
