i think sam’s first family reunion he would be kidnapped by the little kids (like 10 and under) and they would force him to learn how to do cartwheels he tries to get away on multiple occasions but “nah man you let them follow you theyre with you until we leave”

oh absolutely. sam’s lucky he doesn’t live in the time of cell phones because it would be constant “do you have games on your phone?” as it is he has to play their games, let them teach him how to do cartwheels and generally manage them. he doesn’t love it until afterwards he realize he’s been fully accepted in their extended family. to the kids at least, he’s one of them (they definitely think he’s super cool. especially when he shows them knife tricks)

ten years into their relationship older family still asking “who gahdamn white baby is this?” about steve but the younger ones just know him as steve

henrys extended family dont let steve and henry (mainly henry) play on the same team for spades or any card game because they are cheating there’s no other explanation on how they win so much

you said that the sinclairs bring desserts and i think steve brings a pumpkin pie his first year not realizing they are a sweet potato pie family (rookie mistake) (he gets the nickname pumpkin for the rest of his life)

henry and steve are on the cusp of being too old for the cousin walk but its okay because they are okay with being gophers to grab any last minute items for people cooking

it’s the god given right of all the older relatives to tease steve for his existence ie “pumpkin” and “who is the white boy”. steve doesn’t mind, he’s just happy to be here. the younger ones do recognize him as just steve and they all secretly really like him because of course they do steve’s great with kids, so they don’t really consider it until they’re older that steve is obviously henry’s boyfriend. henry is not allowed to play cards with steve OR sam and frankly two of them are this close to being outright banned because there’s no way they can keep winning, meanwhile steve is allowed because he tends to lose miserably if he isn’t teamed with henry. steve actually gets pretty good at making desserts for their family gatherings, he’s a good cook, he never lives down the pumpkin pie though. even with a plate full of his dessert they tease him. finally, henry Loves his family and enjoys family get togethers, but when they get sent on a mission to pick up whipped cream or a can of whatever because someone forgot, he always takes a deep sigh of relief when it’s just him and steve in the car. steve drives with one hand on the wheel and the other drawing patterns on henry’s skin, keeps him relaxed. it’s nice to share a moment just the two of them before they’re back into the fray

listen henry is at his core a loving person and i think he could love someone else, even happily be with someone else long term, but steve is the one, you know? it’s that quote from Trevante Rhodes about Moonlight and love being a 1-10. henry could find plenty of 6 7 8s maybe even 9s, but steve is that 10. and once you see that, how could you ever imagine anything else?
