Despite not fully knowing yet , because I am insanely slow and procrastinate to hell and back , but I have yet to decide the subject of Hela on this blog. The writing within the movie wasn't entirely an eye sore , but is it more appealing to the story as another child of Odin? Fraught with trauma . . or is it better for her to stay as she is in the comics / mythos? Well today is not that day so sorry to disappoint any of you reading.
However it is important to note that it is important to this headcanon. In their fight to stop the fall of Asgard , she takes his right eye with a single cleave of her Nightsword ( Necrosword ) armed with the potent magic of hers , one that is of the dual essence of life as we know it , the power of life and death bend to her own will. Even for the gods to some degree. Thor who at least at one point his canon , he had a weakness to magic or still has , and to a Goddess of equal strength? His eye is completely ripped from his skull the essence of the Goddess of Death's magic drips into his own Aesir essence, infusing within completely destroying or nullifying his god-like regenerative ability. It was too late the cut was far to deep to even heal by normal means , even with his ability to recover from injuries along with her magic it was all but lost to him. The lasting damage is that he can recover his eye nor will the scar fade away , a permanent reminder of a failure to stop the Goddess of Death. Sigyn manages to heal most of the damage but is unable to truly undo it. There had been short talks to use Vanir magic to construct a new eye , or would have if Hela's magic having not sustained further damaged then initially thought. Thor despite obtaining a prosthetic eye from Rocket , he finds it a little uncomfortable , the way it works in allowing him to see especially following their defeat at the hand of Thanos. He tends to wear it less and less preferring to continue wearing the eyepatch. Unbeknownst to him that would rather add more upon the discomfort he feels within , the guilt , anger , vengeance , regret it all further adds to the weight he feels after The Snap. Thor within those five years develops ' dysmorphia ' that when the periods in which he feels uncomfortable he retreats from public , often avoids mirrors or if he hasn't destroyed them already , but the focus of his is that sometimes he sees his father especially as his hair and beard have both grown in length. The lines blur and there may more to how this developed within him , it is more likely then tied more to his trauma or otherwise realizations about his father. Even within himself too the point that eventually he begins to see more then a disillusioned version of his father within him. The magic of Hela did more lasting damage then both Thor and Sigyn had once originally thought. That in her quick and swift strike that she had damaged not only the nerves to his eye on a divine level , to the point where even a falsely created eye would be more painful then none at all , and the prosthetic eye is no better for him. On good days it's as a light uncomfortable feeling to feeling as if his eye is on fire. On it's worst he wants to rip it from his skull. Even going so far as to developing Phantom Eye Pain whether this is or was the cause of his previous discomfort , but it's a diagnosis that comes to no shock to Sigyn or Thor. In fact that these are things that don't pass the lips of those who know for the fear of being seen as weak. Odin may be dead but his enemies may not have been. Despite all of this Thor has learned to accommodate his fighting style because after all he is still the God of Thunder , King of Asgard , and the All-Father. It's worth noting that all of these things are heavily timeline dependent on the severity , or simply up to my discretion , but it is something that he will likely suffer with for the rest of his godhood. The episodes of his Dysmorphia as he begins to finally settle the ghosts of his past , the separation of the similarities between he and his father. I will simply state that this isn't the only part of his physical being he will loose , and it too will come at a cost.
