CD REVIEW: DICKEY BETTS – Live From The Lone Star Roadhouse New York City 1988 (2024)

A LIVE release on 2 CDs, with the main man, Dickey Betts, doing the two musical things he's most famous for, playing guitar & vocals.

Across the tracks, there's special guests too, namely: Rick Derringer (Edgar Winter Group), Mick Taylor (John Mayall's Bluebreakers) and Jack Bruce - the Cream of the crop you might say.

It's great that, 'In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed', is featured - my top favourite off the Alllman Brothers's Live at Filmore (1971). 'Statesboro Bluesa' 'Jessica' and 'Spoonful' are also among the 17 songs.

Tracks: Rock Bottom, Blue Sky, Warren Haynes introduction, Time To Roll, Duane’s Tune, The Blues Ain’t Nothing, Far Cry, Heartbreak Line, In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed, Loverman, Jessica, Under The Guns Of Love, Statesboro Blues, One Way Out, Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo, Spoonful, Southbound.

Both Live At Filmore and The Lone Star Roadhouse are different bites from The Big Apple - some 17 years apart, but equally great performances.
