Power, Corruption & Lies is the second studio album by the English rock band New Order, released on 2 May 1983 by Factory Records. A development of New Order's 1981 debut album Movement, the album combines the band's roots in post-punk with influences from electronic music. The track "5-8-6" has been called "a literal interpretation of early house music", while influences from Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder has also been noted. Darker songs such as "We All Stand" and “Your Silent Face” are contrasted with brighter and more optimistic songs such as "The Village".
The hit single "Blue Monday" was not included on the album but released separately on a twelve-inch single.
Released: 7 March 1983 Note: the single "Blue Monday" does not appear on the vinyl release
Let's dance!!!
Today I woke up 3 times this morning ~
am5:38 woke up because of peeing + my hand illness pain; am7:15 thirsty and drinking water + my brain struggling to wake up and the grogginess from I caught a cold; am10:13 Because I do find & play this song on to keep me from avoiding work, I danced to the beat 2 times in total and was perfectly waking. Hahaha!!!
So it is so important to find the timing to listen right music! Thanks xoxo Lan~*

Lyrics:
How does it feel
To treat me like you do?
When you've laid your hands upon me
And told me who you are
I thought I was mistaken
I thought I heard your words
Tell me how do I feel
Tell me now, how do I feel
Those who came before me
Lived through their vocations
From the past until completion
They'll turn away no more
I still find it so hard
To say what I need to say
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me
Just how I should feel today
I see a ship in the harbor
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortune
I'd be a heavenly person today
And I thought I was mistaken
And I thought I heard you speak
Tell me, how do I feel
Tell me now, how should I feel
Now I stand here waiting
Songwriter:
I thought I told you to leave me
While I walk down to the beach
Tell me how does it feel
When your heart grows cold, grows cold...
Peter Hook / Gillian Lesley Gilbert / Stephen Paul David Morris / Bernard Sumner
SongFacts:
'Blue Monday' is the most successful and best-known song by the British new wave band New Order and, due to its innovative sound engineering and early sampling sounds, is considered a pioneering piece of electronic dance music and synth pop as well as a pioneer of techno. The original version of the track was released in 1983 on the 12″ maxi single of the same name.
The song, consisting of four verses, begins with a pounding sixteenth-note drum machine beat (Oberheim DMX), into which keyboardist Gillian Gilbert slowly fades in a melody as a sequencer loop. According to the band members, they did it in the wrong place, causing the melody to run out of sync with the beat; the supposed "bug" was eventually retained as a welcome feature. The piece then builds up in a cascading fashion; after an unusually long intro, consisting of a pulsating Moog synthesizer sequence and Peter Hook's electric bass line and hi-hat breaks, the vocal part of the piece finally begins, performed emotionlessly and somberly by Bernard Sumner. Uncharacteristically for a "hit song," Sumner, as the song's lyricist, chose not to use a standard verse as the chorus. A staccato of sound effects follows: a succession of drumbeats resembling machine gun fire, and the then-popular synth pitch-bending sound of a "crashing airplane" that can also be found in the long disco version of Soft Cells' Tainted Love' (1981). The piece culminates in a spherical chorus sample and multi-track superimpositions (overdubs) of synthesizer melody and bass line, until it finally fades out.
As with most New Order tracks, the title bears no relation to the lyrics, which again leaves a lot of room for interpretation; Although Sumner rarely comments publicly on his lyrics, a reference to the suicide of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis and statements about the effects of Curtis were constructed, as has often been the case since the former Joy Division band members began as New Order ' Death imputed to the remaining. Hidden allusions to drug experiments were also suspected in the text, and that the band had been on an LSD trip during production.

Weird Olympic Moments Tournament
To celebrate (?) the Paris 2024 Olympic Games starting in a few weeks, I thought I'd run another Olympic-themed poll tournament. This time, we're diving into history and getting to know some of the stranger, lesser-known stories of the Games.
Polls will run for a week, and the tournament should last until around early September if I'm doing my math right. The first polls will begin Monday, July 15th.
At the end, we'll award a gold, silver, and bronze to the top three.
After many hours on Wikipedia and the IOC website, here's the list of moments I came up with:
Horse vaulting
Pigeon racing
Sarajevo venues damaged in war
Mayor of Montreal says "The Olympics can no more lose money than a man can have a baby," then proceeds to host one of the most financially disastrous Games in history
George Eyser wins six medals after being run over by a train
Solo synchronized swimming
Crowd gets pooped on by 25,000 pigeons
Flame is taken to top of Mount Everest
Margaret Abbot dies without knowing she made history as the first US woman to win gold
Brazilian team has to sell coffee to afford the trip to Los Angeles
A teenager's "dumb idea" becomes Olympic tradition (athletes marching together in closing ceremony)
St. Louis experiments with "purposeful dehydration", denies water to marathon runners
Kanakuri Shizō takes 54 years to finish his race
Mt. Vesuvius moves the Olympics to London
They stop doing the Olympic salute for some reason
IOC President compares a terrorist attack to a vote to ban a racist country
The Olympics goes 88 years without letting women run marathons
Olympic flame transmitted via satellite
Northern Rhodesia declares independence during Olympics, changes name to Zambia
Vancouver 2010 cauldron malfunction
Montreal 1976 stadium is finally paid off in 2006
The curse of the Beijing 2008 mascots
Everest climbers get gold medals
Sochi snowflake malfunction
They hold the Olympics in 1906, then later say it doesn't count
Colorado kicks the Olympics out
Flame hidden from view after anti-gay law
Summer Olympics held during Winter
Haiti and Liechtenstein discover they had the same flag
Riot at the 1924 rugby match
McDonald's gives out more Big Macs than they expected
Chamonix 1924 retroactively named the Winter Olympics
Doves burned during cauldron lighting
Torchbearer takes olympic flame down a ski jump
Medals made of e-waste
Shooter aims for wrong target, loses gold
Olympic torch passed on International Space Station
Alien addresses crowd
Figure skating debuts at Summer Olympics
Olympics held on two different continents
Rio organizers lose key to stadium gate
Baron de Coubertin wins a gold medal under false identity
1960 winter games held in city named for an ethnic slur
Obstacle Swimming
North Korea considered to co-host 1988
Housing complex for American soldiers during the occupation of Japan becomes the Olympic village
Torch design changed mid-relay
Cauldron lit by flaming arrow
Last three seconds of basketball final replayed three times until results changed
St. Louis threatens to hold their own Olympics if they don't get named host city
Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat
Balloon racing
Delirious man carried over finish line by coaches, wins marathon
Summer Olympics held in November and December
Olympics postponed for COVID
Blue screen of death appears during opening ceremony
Marathon runner attacked by priest
Guy kicks referee in the face and (maybe) ends up on a stamp
Jet pack flies over stadium
Centennial games not awarded to a very confident Athens
LA 84 gets in trouble for commercializing the torch relay
Olympic flame relit with cigarette lighter
Rower stops for ducks
Nazi propaganda becomes Olympic tradition (torch relay)
Did I miss a great weird moment? Send it to me in an ask and I might do a round 2 or something!
I chose the moments based on my own personal bias (lol)
Heads up that there is one that involves the death of animals, but I will tag any polls with that #tw animal death
Please don't hesitate to let me know if you need anything else tagged, and how to tag it!
Also, a disclaimer that I'm tired and scatterbrained and I work full time, so if this gets a little disorganized I apologize. Shouldn't be too bad though.
Let the games begin, and whatnot
@tournament-announcer :)

Ele gosta de Strangelove e Just Like Heaven e sempre pede pra botar pra tocar.

The union representing Blue Bus workers in West Vancouver, B.C., says its members have voted to ratify a two-year collective agreement, averting a transit strike in the Metro Vancouver suburb.
More than 150 workers belonging to Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 134 voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action last week if they did not reach an agreement with the District of West Vancouver.
On Monday, the union announced on Twitter that it had reached a tentative agreement with the district. It was ratified by 88 per cent of members on Wednesday, the union said.

Even the "NCIS" origin story for Austin Stowell has a Cracker Jack opening.
The impossibly rugged actor, 39, had tried to clear his mind after his February audition for "NCIS: Origins," the prequel series to the CBS police procedural (premiering Monday, 9 EDT/PDT, after the 22nd season opener of the OG series). After all, these were high stakes seeking the coveted role of young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, famously embodied by Mark Harmon for 19 TV glory-filled seasons. Gibbs is the guy in the "NCIS" universe, even after the iconic character retired to fly-fishing in Alaska when Harmon stepped aside in 2021.
So Stowell went off the grid, skiing with Charlie Jennings, his best friend and agent. It was robust bliss, until Stowell received a miracle message on the reception-patchy mountaintop saying Harmon, an "Origins" executive producer and narrator, wanted to talk.
"Mark wanted to speak to me, and you can guess what about," says Stowell, who went ski-hill rogue. "We had to get down the mountain and get reliable service ASAP. We race down that hill, take off our gear, jump into the Jeep, and fly down the highway to get reliable service. And we do. Mark calls. We literally pull off the highway."
Harmon signaled that Stowell would very likely get the role of his younger "NCIS" self in CBS' "Origins."
"Mark was very complimentary. He said, 'It's been you from the second you walked in the room," Stowell says. "And he asked me, 'Are you ready for this?'"
Austin Stowell said after 'Star Wars' casting disappointment: 'Onward!'
Oh, he's ready. Stowell has been prepping for takeoff since earning a guest role in 2010 on "NCIS: Los Angeles" and playing a big-hearted swim champion in two "A Dolphin Tale" movies alongside KrisKristofferson. ("He was an amazing man, talk about a real-life superhero," Stowell says. The music legend died lastmonth at age 88).
Stowell even had a serious run at a major "Star Wars" movie role with J.J. Abrams. He was flown to London's Pinewood Studios and donned the "Star Wars" costume and makeup for a day. But the role went to another actor. "Of course. it's devastating," Stowell says. "This is a wonderful job, but the process is tough. But I always have said the same thing when I don't get a job: 'Onward.'"
Austin Stowell was hard to reach after 'NCIS: Origins' audition: 'So Gibbs'
After his memorable audition, "Origins" executive producers Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North faced familiar reception issues when they called to officially offer Stowell the role. "He was out in a cabin in the middle of the woods with no internet and almost missed our call," North says. "I got off the phone and said, 'That's so Gibbs.'"
Says Stowell: "One phone call that changes your life. And two phone calls that I nearly missed. But the Hollywood gods were looking out for me."
Monreal says his physical likeness to Harmon was important. But "Origins" places Gibbs in 1991 as a green Naval Investigative Service officer at California's Camp Pendleton, where the former Marine sniper deals with the murder of his wife and daughter. That required a presence that Stowell, who can turn on full Gibbs with one soulful-eyed look, inhabited.
In "Origins," Gibbs is far from the ultra-competent special agent in command. He's an unsteady newbie dealing with his trauma after failing his psychological evaluations. It was this raw premise, based on "NCIS" lore, that made Harmon's son Sean, who had played the young Gibbs in "NCIS" flashbacks, pitch "Origins." (He's now an executive producer.)
Young Gibbs has immediate "Origins" supporters, including Special Agent Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino) and his eventual mentor Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid), whose power mustache is a scene stealer. "He's electric," Stowell says. "I already joke with him that we are going to see Franks' mustaches at Halloween parties."
Stowell dived into research, reading 1980 U.S. Marine manuals to understand the life and taking long runs with a weighted-down backpack. He stepped up the rifle training he learned in 2018's Chris Hemsworth-led Afghanistan war film "12 Strong" to look silently confident with Gibbs' rifle. Stowell still binge-watches "NCIS" episodes to pick up small mannerisms.
"I want to embody his essence. There are Gibbs-isms," Stowell says. "There is a head nod and he has this stare."
That stare, and Harmon's intense blue eyes, are so pivotal that Stowell wears blue contact lenses over his naturally green eyes. Seeing the world that way changes his perspective: "They make me feel different," he says. "They're such a powerful tool."
Harmon appears near a campfire in the "Origins" opening. The camera zooms up close on his stare, which morphs into Stowell's haunted look.
"It's not the passing of the throne; Mark Harmon has the throne," Stowell says. "If it's the passing of the torch, he lit the torch. It's my job to show how this kid becomes that guy that people admire so much. But I get to play one of the world's greatest heroes. And that's pretty rock and roll."
