Is Cheap Roofing Always That Terrible?

We can confirm that cheap roofing services exist -- and those individuals just want to swindle you off your money. Quality roofing is always quite an investment, but that's because reliable roofers in Calgary AB have the best equipment and tried-and-proven methods to resolve all your roofing needs. Metal

Metal roofing can be expensive, but choosing to go with a lower quality material can increase the likelihood of dents. While it is lightweight and withstands wind well, it absorbs less heat than asphalt shingles. Excessive noise can be a factor if you live in an area that experiences a lot of rain, hail or wind storms. Metal roofing is available in sheets or shingles, giving you the option to make your home a bit different than most others on the block.



Wood shingles and shakes

Wood shingles and shakes are made from cedar, redwood and southern pine. Western Red Cedar #1 Blue Label is the best option here. Some areas restrict the use of wood shingles to due flammability, so check your local building codes before installing. While this material is moderate to high in initial cost, it requires frequent upkeep and can have a shorter lifespan. If maintenance time and expenses are something you’re trying to avoid, you may want to consider a different material. Poor installation methods and improper ventilation will significantly decrease the lifespan of your wood shingle or shake roof.

Slate

Slate is the most expensive and heaviest roofing option. It is also the oldest type of roofing material, so if you’re going for a rustic, aged feel for your home, slate may be a great candidate. It protects well against fire and wind and tends to have a long lifespan. One downside: slate must be installed on very steep-sloping roofs. (Continued)

Cedar Shingle Side Table with Oak Top

Unique Handmade Cedar shingle and Reclaimed Oak Side Table.

This side table is based on a previous design I produced. My aim with this concept is to bring together natural materials and unique textures that wouldn't normally be seen in home furnishings.

The piece in the picture is the first I have made, it has a exterior quality plywood core. The lower section has been clad in (Blue Label - No. 1 Grade) cedar fixed in a random pattern. These are premium grade shingles and would normally be seen on roof tops and exterior cladding. They are rich in colour and have a natural warmth, they will also age and slowly change in colour to a silver grey (no finish applied).

The top is reclaimed European oak, hand planed and tampered on the underside to give a slim edge. It has been finished in a hard wax, to give a semi gloss finish and to bring out the oaks natural golden colour.

The top is fixed to the base by a single machined brass screw that is visual. This fixing can be hidden if preferred.

The table could be use all around the home including outside, I wouldn't recommend leaving the table exposed to the elements due to the oak top.

Dimensions are:

H:43cm D:30cm

As with all our pieces it can be produced to custom size, timber or finish if requested.
