second hardest part of writing sanguo is that my kiwi upbringing means i have 0 respect for authority and cannot resist the urge to take the piss out of Important Historical Figures. if i edit something more than twice it inevitably dissolves into a monty python sketch.

I don't think Sky and Zelda would actually tell people about the whole Hylia thing, at first! Obviously, they would tell Groose and stuff, and i think they would tell Gaepora as well. Gaepora would probably help them figure out a way to break the news gently so they don't cause mass hysteria. I don't really know, though!! I've never thought about it before! I suppose that over the course of generations, people would begin to forget how Hylia brought them all to the sky and saved them and everything. The Goddess Statue and the Sealed Temple would probably fall into disrepair, I guess? Because they've spent so long on the Surface and Hylia hasn't shown her face, i guess they would probably turn their attention towards the Golden Goddesses who made the Surface, rather than Hylia who made Skyloft, because that impacts them more directly so it would be more dependent on where they live?? idk i haven't studied mass changes in religion due to migration in depth, but i'm sure there's something there
mmmmmm as for how Hyrule became a monarchy: no clue!! but consider....it starts out as a small village, people are doing what they did back on Skyloft but with the new dangers on the Surface, they become more close-knit and then begin to multiply like rats because that's how humans work, the village grows into a more fortified town, then a city, and people are like "so how are we deciding on what's okay to do and what's not etc etc" because more people = more conflicting ideas/worldviews, and maybe after generations, the events of sksw are, like, idolized and stuff, and sky becomes an unreachable historical figure rather than the silly guy who gave piggyback rides to little kids and kikwis, and either his descendants are elected due to their bloodline or they take over using a sort of "mandate of heaven" type thing but they actually do pretty good and make everything fair, so people just let them?? genuinely no clue though, i'm just spitballing lol.
I completely get what you mean by the whole "religion being fact" thing! we are on the same page w/ that, you put is so well! The lack of intent thing makes so much sense, YES.
Oh! btw i think i can solve your history problem. it might change your worldview a little though, so bear with me a sec. They do keep track of history, but no one cares enough to know it. That's what's really interesting to me! Skyloft certainly has the books and the knowledge, and that is made clear from how Sky needs Gaepora to tell him how to open the Thunderhead, get to the Triforce, etc. The books are right there in his office! History was probably pretty important when Skyloft was first raised, but as time went on, it was neglected because nothing ever happened. The point of Skyloft was to be a haven for humans until Demise could be defeated: a perfect, peaceful place to live. No one ever wanted for anything, because everything was within reach. For heaven's sake, a test for advanced knights is just hitting a bunch of targets within a time limit! When you have a perfect life, you stop caring about what came before, because you don't need to. Skyloft was designed to be paradise from the very beginning - Gorko's idea of Skyloft is white and gold, endless wealth and comfort, full of holy figures, and that sounds like paradise, despite the fact that Skyloft and the Surface haven't had contact since Skyloft was raised. So my first theory is that no one knows history because no one cares enough to look. It's only Gaepora that cares, and while you could say that it's a hobby, we could stay off the beaten path here.
I would like to say that Gaepora is a good guy. We can all agree on that. He is more than happy to share information with Sky. He's very open with information, and when people ask, his teacher insincts kick in and he's happy to start educating. But he only does that when people ask. If people don't know the right questions to ask, they'll never learn about any of the secrets hiding right under their noses. This is uninentionally info hoarding. Gaepora even knows about the Goddess Sword and what will happen when it starts glowing, though that one is admittedly a secret, probably so hysteria doesn't ensue. It is passed down through oral tradition though and is stated to have missed a few key points, so I'm not going to claim they have perfectly accurate records, but there are records.
At the beginning of the game, Zelda says she heard about the Surface from her father's books, and wonders if it's really true. She and her father are the only ones on the island who even question whether Skyloft is all there is, and that's only because they have read these books. What if other people would be curious, if they just knew the possibility was real? So here's a question i pose to you: what if, when Skyloft was first raised, people decided to keep the specifics quiet? Hylia wanted a paradise. What if they believe they can create that paradise by controlling the information and history? What if Skyloft is nothing but a shiny front over a problematic society?
idk if that's true or has any basis whatsoever, but uhhhh sorry for the ramble about a dystopian Skyloft lol. They do keep some sort of records, so fear not! It's just that no one gives a shit because their lives are so perfectly dull and nothing ever changes or happens.
no sorries about sharing your hcs, really!!! it is SO fun to read them and talk to other people and stuff, so seriously my dude, feel free to ramble about whatever you'd like to me cuz i will probably respond with equal enthusiasm lol.
(preistess impa priestess impa priestess impa I LOVE THAT I'VE NEVER THOUGHT OF IT BUT IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE BRRRRRRRR-)
hope you're having a lovely day, this is a lot of fun :D
wanna ask this cause i really like your fics, and wanna see how you think on this 👀 so a lot of fanon has other links being bitter towards hylia, but wouldn’t it make more sense for sky to have a bitterness/fear of Hylia? considering it was confirmed to his face that he was legit MADE to be a hero, fight demise and had his entire journey manipulated by hylia? and would that cause conganitive dissonance with his relationship with zelda?👀👀👀
HI hi hello :D jksgrzfnhieaklmgrjihdkloifndk THANK YOU SO MUCH, I'M SO GLAD YOU LIKE MY FICS I APPRECIATE YOU SO MUCH <3 <3 <3
you just asked, like, one of my favorite questions ever rjghskgbvjkdehgijk sorry if this gets...long
Ok ok ok ok I COMPLETELY agree with you!!!! I think sky is a man of extremes - he either loves you or he despises you. For the most part, he adores everyone (other than a few key people cough cough ghirahim and demise cough cough). His whole convo with Zelda right before she sealed herself away fucked with him SO MUCH, because suddenly he is trying to cope about the fact that the goddess his entire culture idolizes manipulated him, and what makes it worse is that Zelda is the reincarnation of her.
ANYway, i think he absolutely hates Hylia, yeah! I think he despises her and is so bitter towards her and would be completely fine if she straight-up died! In my mind, he doesn't like any deity, really. He's had enough interactions with gods that he is absolutely comfortable telling them they all suck and he hates them lmao, but that's a tangent. It makes a lot more sense to me if he hated Hylia, but what might make others to disagree is the fact that Zelda was Hylia. Fortunately, I have a solution for that as well!!
When Zelda talks to him right before she seals herself, she mentions that she didn't know, she was happy to be his zelda, etc. So in my brain, after Demise dies, she has a full-on identity crisis (and probably also a "oh my gosh Link probably hates me" Moment cuz she knows him so well) where she's not sure who she is, if she's a goddess or just Zelda, cuz now she has all these memories that she remembers but she didn't experience them (Sun and Wild would be besties and you can't change my mind lol). So i think that Sky couldn't hate Zelda, and so they both work it out and they can both separate Hylia from Zelda and see that they're two different people. So would there be dissonance in their relationship? Sure, briefly, but they love each other and they work it out and both of them dislike Hylia, they're such a power couple and will fight god :D
As for fanon having other Links be bitter towards Hylia, I guess it works?? idk it works at first glance, but then i always remember that they have no fucking clue who Hylia is. Wild knows, obviously, but he's on good terms with her. I just think it's occasionally a little funny to see the Links ragging on Hylia when they canonically don't know she exists.
(my personal hcs are that the Links, especially Ledge and Time who are typically the most outspoken about it in fanon, pretty much just want nothing to do with the gods. They're more focused on the immediate "i can save this person and the world" part. Also, Time has his whole Master Sword thing. but in general, i think that any bitterness towards the gods (most likely the golden goddesses) is pretty surface-level and they don't think much about it. Not a single Link would regret saving the world. I think that's something I don't often see - they chose to be heroes, and they would do it again without hesitation. They just wish it didn't cause so much trauma. However, Warrior having religious trauma due to fighting a war and feeling like he and his soldiers have been abandoned, similar to WW1 soldiers, is just something so important to me :P)
uhhhhh i feel like there's something i missed but idk. I've thought about this A Lot. Actually, if you want to see a really clear-cut example of how I think Sky feels about Hylia, you can check out Smoke & Ashes, which is a LOT of angst so PLEASE BE CAREFUL, but chapters 13 and 14 are very prominently about how they feel about each other (in my head). yes i am shilling, but i love this fic lmao.
hope you have a lovely day, anon!!! tysm :D
