this is fascinating. it isn’t hypocritical, you are.

it’s about consent: doctors shouldn’t perform involuntary procedures OR prevent anyone from accessing care.

so it comes down to a belief in authority, who “should” have the power to control your body: family, government, medical professionals? but clearly, doctors prevent adults from having elective treatments all the time! you wouldn’t give up your rights for doctor’s rights, would you? because a doctor is just performing a role, like a parent or judge. you are yourself all the time.

the REAL issue you’re running into is that kids are both fundamentally themselves, and immature. an institution should not be allowed to alter your body without consent, but children can’t consent to other activities like having sex or doing drugs, right? so… who should have the power to decide who a child is?

obviously, the child. it’s still their body.

it’s not even a trick question. it’s just that adults worldwide have shown zero respect for the needs or identities of children, especially when they’re controversial. (if you just denied that some children need care, you’re doing it right now.)

it’s also a belief in biological essentialism, that sex and/or gender must be permanent, especially non-consensually. “i will protect women whether they like it or not!” …replace women with children.

if we could acknowledge that:

institutions should respect human autonomy

children are first and foremost humans

some humans have needs that you may not ever have or understand, and that’s normal

we could actually make some headway on rights
