Jim Crow laws were laws enforced in the United States that promoted racial segregation and discrimination. They were outlawed in 1965, but Mississippi is trying to reinstate them. Sign this petition and spread the word. The bill has already passed through the house, but this petition can prevent it from passing through senate.

Reblogging cuz idk if my followers know about this yet and I'm tryna spread the word because this amount of injustice is absolutely sick. Apparently in 2001 they imprisoned this man for the robbing and murder of a family with no proof, no DNA test whatsoever basically just on a hunch pretty much like "I just got a feeling bro" and nothing was done. In 2024 he was to be put on death row for no reason again even though the victims families were against it and pretty much everyone actually but the jury did not listen till word got to the government and the government said to just imprison him and continue on with the investigation till a new government came into power and threw that all away. Now Marcellus was on death row again and I think there was even a court case but the guy defending Marcellus got sent home or something because they said his hair was unprofessional for a lawyer and messy (at least that's what i heard on a tiktok) and the case was cancelled that day. I think they said it was meant to be rescheduled but the jury rejected and said he was meant to be put on death row immediately. The video also said the jury were tryna rush the execution as well so over a thousand signatures all over america were signed including the victims families who also signed (mind you the signatures were so Marcellus could peacefully continue his life imprisonment sentence from 2001 and not get executed) but luckily the test results were out before the execution and the DNA test results showed he didn't do it but the jury still decided to go on with the execution and the current government in power didn't rlly care and permitted it so yeah that's where we are now. I think i heard marcellus died yesterday too unfortunately such a sad story.

Remember Khaliifah Marcellus Williams! A black Muslim man falsely accused. Remember that he's innocent. Remember that the governor of Missouri, mike Parson who had the opportunity to save this man's life, decided not to. Remember all but three supreme court justices decided his life wasn't worth saving either. Remember his face. Remember his Last words. And remember how fucked up this country is
Rest in peace Marcellus
#marcellus williams#Black lives matter#civil rights#blacklivesmatter#blm#anti blackness#Reminds me of the case that inspired the well known movie the green mile#I think it happened in the 1950s where a 13/14 yr old black boy was put on death row for the suspected murder of some little white girls#And this was a long time ago#Marcellus had no right to be executed#The world is going backwards especially America#And to think theres a man who r worded a 2 month old and was imprisoned but not put on death row#Ppl are signing petition for him(he's white ) to be put on death row but the government rejected it#i hate this world#America keeps failing black boys/men and black ppl in general no surprise there

MISSOURI, SEPTEMBER 12 (The Innocence Project) — Today, the Circuit Court for St. Louis County, Missouri denied Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell’s motion to vacate Marcellus Williams’ conviction and death sentence.
Prosecuting Attorney Bell filed the motion based on new DNA testing conducted on forensic evidence collected at the crime scene that conclusively excluded Mr. Williams as the person who killed Felicia Gayle in 1998.
After considering the evidence of Mr. Williams’ innocence and other constitutional errors in his trial, the court nevertheless ruled that vacatur was not warranted under Missouri law.
The court’s ruling is available here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1H_8gEp_1LgUzEsUAEEXg1643UJw88rja/view?usp=sharing).
Mr. Williams is scheduled to be executed on September 24.
Marcellus’ attorney Tricia Rojo Bushnell said in a statement:
“The decision of a prosecutor to move to vacate a murder conviction and death sentence is not done lightly. Prosecuting Attorney Bell filed a motion because there is overwhelming evidence that Marcellus Williams’ trial was constitutionally unfair, including revelations that the State contaminated the most critical evidence in the case—the murder weapon. We will continue pursuing every possible option to prevent Mr. Williams’ wrongful execution. There is still time for the courts or Governor Parson to ensure that Missouri does not commit the irreparable injustice of executing an innocent person."
We now have to do everything in our power to help stop Marcellus’ impending execution on September 24.
Your voice could make a crucial difference in the fight for justice.
CALL TO ACTION:
Those in the US: Text “Marcellus” to 97016 to join his advocacy team

i never post anything serious on here but the results of the election have genuinely thrown me for a loop!
as someone living in the uk i cant even begin to imagine how scary this is for all the women, lgbtq, poc, disabled, and so many other people that trump's policies target. if you are living in the usa or are just scared, please talk to someone because you are not alone.
HOWEVER!!
if you are reading this and you did vote for trump or support his policies, here is the type of person you've elected to be your president:
said he wanted to "restore germany to its former glory"
said he would be dating ivanka trump if she wasnt his daughter
was walking behind a TEN YEAR OLD GIRL on an escalator and said "i'm gonna be dating her in ten years"
had sex with a porn star and paid her $130 million in hush money while his wife was pregnant
has been found guilty of falsifying business records, conspiracy to defraud the usa, and conspiracy AGAINST the rights of citizens
been accused of sexual misconduct in at least 26 cases, including minors, and has been found liable in court for sexual abuse
is the only president to have been impeached twice (abuse of power and obstruction of Congress in 2019, incitement of insurrection in 2021)
reversed majority of obama's action taken to fight climate change
after george floyd's murder, he ordered the police to clear a crowd of blm protestors with tear gas and stun grenades so he could take a photo in lafayette square
held an INDOOR rally just months after the country shut down due to covid
if that doesn't say enough about him as a person, please take a good look at the project 2025 manifesto, or if you can't be bothered to do that then have a look at some articles like this one:
i mentioned earlier that i live in the uk and at first i thought about how i probably have no reason to be worried. his policies dont affect me. but then i thought a little more about the domino effect this could have. trump's reelection sets a precedent for other countries to follow suit, and this will only get stronger once he starts making the changes he's promised. im scared for my own future, i cant even imagine how the minorities living in america feel right now.
if you wanna help, share the articles, donate to the charities, sign the petitions, attend the protests, just be loud!!! be as persistent as possible about it and people will be forced to listen.
i would also like to add that if you support donald trump please get the fuck off my page i dont want you here. okay bye :3

Oh my god you bitches on this website love to complain about everything.
Yall complain about the Dems doing NOTHING and when someone does you say its not good enough.
"Its performative" YEAH NO FUCKING SHIT! MOST POLITICAL STUNTS ARE.
ANY THING A POLITICIAN WILL DO WILL BE PERFORMATIVE!
But he actually had people looking at C-SPAN for once and listening
He called out both the right AND the Left in his speech.
A speech, mind you, that lasted 25 hours with no food OR BATHROOM BREAKS. Something i know a lot of y'all can't do.
Not to mention he took the record from a WHITE SUPERMICIST THAT TALKED FOR 24 HOURS TO OPPSE CIVIL RIGHTS IN THE 60S
I know you bitches love talking about how much you hat white supremacy (even though, again, yall hate talking about black issues here and ignore it as much as you can. Y'all hated when BLM was trending and complained about it so much, but suddenly, they are single issue voters on non-black issues but thats another rant post for another day🙄)
You ignore history being made because its not *your* perfect politician doing it. You cant fathom collaborating with anyone thats your perfect flavor of leftist. (But will platform and have empathy for a republican in a heart beat)
Do i like him? No. And he shouldn't have worn the Isreal pin. But come ON!
If its not Bernie sanders you guys really dont care or listen (even though Sanders has his own problems and dont get me started on Stine or De La Cruz)
No wonder Trump is in office.
You have no sense of actually working together. You just want to sit on your ass and complain from behind your computer and share change.org petitions that go nowhere.

Louis might not be chucking bricks at No. 10, but people are responding like he’s never displayed leftist politics or challenged a government position on anything. He supported demands to the government about a fix for UK touring musician post Brexit and Marcus Rashford’s petition about food insecurity. He fought the police about their social media use in 2018 and criticised the UK government position/support for factory workers in the pandemic. The things he speaks about are usually UK issues and meaningful to him or his family and friends. He’s also most likely to speak when he isn’t working. Also that specific anarchy has a punk anti authoritarian message as well. That statement fits Louis pretty well. He has been a poster boy for not sitting down and shutting up and doing what you’re told since 2012. If he was he probably wouldn’t have a solo career and he definitely wouldn’t have sold out the O2.
I like this point about him speaking out more when he's not working, I think that's a really great and useful observation and makes so much sense. I feel like it makes sense in two ways right now: like first, I don't blame him for not wanting to do things that would jeopardize how beautifully everything is going for him right now after the number of setbacks and troubles he's had to get here, it must feel so precarious. And knowing for a fact that any political statement you make will spawn a dozen tabloid stories and all kinds of outrage is bad enough, but add to that the fact that it's simply impossible to predict which thing will turn into a huge viral mess- it's a lot. And second, he's not just working, he's been on TOUR! I've been around musicians my whole life and one constant is that tour is time outside of normal time and life, it's a bubble, it's only paying attention to right where you are and what's in front of you and the people there with you and everything else is put off and neglected, is for when you get home (and have massive post tour letdown depression and fatigue). I'm not saying he can disconnect with the outside world entirely... but putting everything on pause? I would be surprised if it were any other way, and I would be surprised if he's been following the news and counter news and so forth closely enough to feel comfortable speaking out publicly about anything when it will be so scrutinized and picked apart. I would add to your list supporting the rail strike (something we wouldn't even know about if it hadn't been tossed in as an aside by an interviewer in the print only version of a piece, he didn't post about it or anything) and attending and posting about the BLM protests (not to mention telling people to pirate his stuff come on how punk is that), and I agree he is much more likely to speak out about UK issues which makes sense: most people are most moved by issues that are close to their lives in some way, and it's his brand. And I agree that even though as an anarchist I love talking about what anarchism as a political ideology actually is, the symbol does also have a common meaning in the world as just basically standing for anti-authoritarianism, and Louis as a guy who rejects authority and the status quo is nothing new at all and one of the reasons we love him, and in the last few years I feel like he's been going further in that direction both aesthetically and politically, and we love to see it! Plus he has pretty much always sported this slightly punky aesthetic to some degree, even when he was being dressed up like a little ken doll he snuck in skater looks and indie band tees and so forth (something something it's part of why his fanbase was so primed to love his new sound and it wasn't the risk he feared it was because people were always drawn to him who were already into that aesthetic even when his sound wasn't that yet) it's not like it's just a brand new out of nowhere side of him or something.
#I'm not sure I would include the food petition on the list- I realize the bar is so fucking low#that supporting charities that feed children is considered political#but charity stuff is a different category for me... although rashford's specifically was#basically formed as a loud way of criticizing the govt for not doing more and explicitly linked to that... so yeah nm maybe that does fit i#even though its a charity org#I have actually been thinking s lot about how his footy fandom would be such a good way for him to sneak in some palestine support#he could just like a post by a player you know? instead of saying something#and it would still be a risk and a statement... but also one that could slide in like listen#I like posts by football players every day what?#or even jsut one about it being fucked up that so and so got fired by their club for making statements#so many layers of remove that could be ustilized#anarchism#comrade louis#blah blah blah#PS note for non brits (not that I am) number 10 refers to number 10 downing st the england equivalent of the white house basically so like#the government

Week 11 11/7
How has Black Twitter shown the intertwinement of social media and activism?
With the countless hashtags created in this online community space to advocate for innocent Black lives lost and challenge the dangerous bias in mainstream media, Black twitter has shown time and time again that incorporating activism and social media makes a difference. “Consequently, the hashtag #APHeadlines also demonstrates the power of Twitter, particularly black twitter, in exposing implicit bias and changing the narrative.” The purpose of this hashtag was to hold Associated Press accountable with damaging and misleading headlines. Shortly after sparking this conversation with a hashtag, the press corrected the headline. It is surely a short step in recognition but unfortunately not close enough to aiding in bringing justice in these situations. I believe these organizations and media outlets do not care about the consequences of misinformation until faced with backlash in fear of ruining their reputation. If these media outlets wanted to properly highlight the community, they would need to start with proper information with no bias and incorporation of the real people affected. This push for accountability and change is possible when we continue to pair activism and social media to spread the word and gain traction.
How have cyber protests proven to enforce and encourage change in the past?
The Black Lives Matter movement is a prominent era in both digital culture and US history that has proven to effectively encourage and enforce change. While the core of BLM’s impact comes from physical protests, policy advocacy, and community organizing- its digital strategies have amplified its message and overall reach. With the creation of #BLM, millions have been able to share stories, organize protests, and call attention to police brutality and systemic racism. With viral campaigns on social media platforms, information on the movement spread quickly as the world was able to witness firsthand accounts of police violence and raise awareness on a global level.
How can we compare and contrast online activism to physical activism?
Although both practices are powerful for encouraging social and political change, they have very distinct characteristics and limitations. In terms of online activism, participants are allowed a broad reach with the use of hashtags, viral posts, and shared content to reach millions at the speed of a share button. With this there are also no entry barriers since the internet allows for petitions, donations, and open engagement. Physical activism has a more local impact as physical protests tend to focus on a specific area. There is also a higher commitment level as participating in a physical demonstration requires time, travel, and risk which limits participation to some. While both have been proven to spread messages it is important to know the risk factor with getting physically involved.
What ethical issues do online activism pose?
Online activism comes with a range of ethical issues and concerns such as misinformation, doxxing, privacy violations, cyber harassment, toxic behavior, cancel culture, anonymity, and amplification of extremist views. Since online activism spreads quickly, this also means misleading information spreads rapidly. This poses a danger as it leaves room for unintentionally or intentionally spreading extremist views, assumptions, or incorrect data and destroying credibility and trust. A huge ethical issue involved in every form of activism is harassment and toxic behavior due to opposing views or those involved not conforming to certain expected standards. This impact creates hostility and ultimately deters the entire meaning of uniformity. By addressing these issues and concerns we must also find a balance for effectively advocating for change while respecting principles of privacy and accountability.
