Lulu's Lemons
"If you think you know all about love, you don't know what's coming. Come here, sit down. Let me show you". He said. He held her hand and led her to the corner of the room. He held the vodka in his hand and poured her a neat shot. "Drink up, it's good for you."
He was more of a whiskey person himself. The Absolut sat on the edge of the table. He carefully made space on the crowded table for his glass before pouring himself another.
Whenever I look in your eyes, there's fierceness I see. Like a lioness, protective of her cubs. I see steely determination, grit, and a whole lot more. But I like to look beyond. Because, that's where the truth lies. Beyond the beautiful brown eyes, a vulnerable, loyal lovable young woman lives. I see a son, full of life and strength. This little light of mine.
"Stop." She said.
"No." He responded, pouring her another whiskey. It was Friday. She was no less surprised when he ran his hands over her face. There was a solitary tear, soldiering down her brown cheek.
I see a woman that loves the unknown. Even though it has not been her best of friends through the years. The random adventures and last minute trips to the country. The late night drinks at his pub. The long night drives. She needed someone to take care of her tired soul. She had had enough of the stress and struggle of fending. He saw how much she needed someone to hold. So he sat next to her. Held her, fed her the grilled chicken as she sipped the rest of her drink.
"Tell me anyone and everyone who makes you feel like shit." Tom said. She mumbled something. "Your mother didn't teach you not to talk with your mouthful?"
She cracked a smile. Her first of the week. "Fucking, Bill!" She shouted after swallowing. Her fist balled up as she went on about her supervisor. He had a knack of sitting on her desk, singing out her name, and the weirdest small talk. "Like how many times can we talk about the sun?" She vented.
Looking her straight in the eyes, he took the tumbler out of her left hand, poured her another drink. He held it up to her lips.
"I mean the quarter isn't even over. Why am I turning in this stupid repor-" She sipped her Johnny Walker. Unlike John, his hands did the walking. As she did all the talking. He held her by the small of her back, caressing her reassuringly as she let her sorrows out to the cold, uncaring world.
When she was done, he spoke.
"Come here." He pulled her into his embrace. She felt the icy glass on her back through her red dress. "I see beyond your fiery gaze. Your soul yearns for care. You wish for someone who loves the way you love. Someone who can love you deep and slow, holding you down and lifting you up. You're not so complicated. I know you don't understand why no one gets you. I see you." He whispered in her ear before running his fingers across her silhouette to the nape of her neck. She felt the slight grip on her neck as he pulled her in for the kiss.
Her heart beat faster. Maybe it was the whiskey. Maybe it was his tongue. It was so silky.
"I know you're woman that loves, yet fears the unknown. I see how your love hate relationship began when the best of you took on the worst of him. I see the scars the years of I don't know left on your heart. I see through your tired soul. You've had enough of fending. I see you need someone to take care of you. When I look at you-" he paused. Looked away, almost as if he was checking on an imaginary clock to his left.
" When I look at you, I see adventure. I see a woman that wants to trust. At last. A woman that's wants to give in. To relax, to be led anywhere and nowhere. You yearn to see the stars on long night drives. But sadly, I don't drive. Not anymore. We were never meant to be. You and me."
We just met, outside the coffee shop randomly. Now how random does it get? How mad is all this? Is it bliss to miss your sleep. Days gone by, I find divine inspiration in time.
