Lost Fic #82

1. I lost a fic! It was a soulmate au and through the ages kind of fic and I think crowley was raphael or something but it starts in heaven before the fall and follows pine tree crowley and I think their marks are books and plants or something? I wanted to reread it but forgot to bookmark it! Any help is appreciated. ~anon

2. Hi! First of all, I love this blog, thanks for so many good fics🥰. Second, I'm desperately looking for a fic, it's about how Crowley believes that he's unloved, I remember the sentence "I don't even love myself", and there's a scene where he has an emotional drunken breakdown in front of Aziraphale during the Warlock years. And then after Armageddoff, Crowley tells Aziraphale that even if he Falls, he won't be unloved, like he thinks he is. Thanks!♡ ~ @just-here-doing-something

4. hi! im looking for an old pre-show fic that was soemthing about aziraphale and crowley falling out of sync with each other, losing the abilty to anticiapte each other. it was tied to some trauma aziraphale had about ww1 and i think there was a wing-grooming scene. there was a very chilling passage about crowley finding out that aziraphale had been discorporated. thank you! ~anon

5. Hi! I need help because I’m oh so desperate! I found these sentences below from my notebook which I’m sure were from a GO fic I read last year. But I didn’t write down which one. I lost it! Do these words ring any bell?

“But you know me, I'm happiest with a book and a chair. Always have been.”

Always will be, he added internally. There was a ceiling on that happiness. It was lovely but it was tame. Never too bright or dangerous, never risky. It would never let him down. But it could only lift him so high.

What if you’re not reenacting an ancient myth at all? What if you’re living your actual life and you’re not a character and there’s no plot and there's no ending? What if there are no metaphors for how this, right here, right now, should feel?

When did you start reading fic? (how old you were or how long ago)

It was in the fall of 2011. White Collar, which I had become crazy about in the past months went on its mid S3 hiatus after a terrible horrible cliffhanger - Keller had kidnapped El !! My poor Peter was gonna be heartbroken *cries* Also he’s gonna be so pissed at Neal!! Cause what really was in jeopardy there, was their friendship aaaaah. Also, you gotta understand. For some weird schedule reason, mid-season hiatus were longer than in-between hiatus. And as I was a bit late to the show, this was my first time waiting for so long - and that show had terrible cliffhangers - terrible for the viewer’s heart !

How was I supposed to survive a 5 months hiatus ?! I turned to fanfics.

What time of day is your ‘fic reading time’? 

Mostly in the evening, when I’m home and on my laptop. If the story I’m reading is long and too addictive to way, I miiiight sneak a peek at work, whenever I have some free time. ;-)

What is your favourite fanfic trope? 

I think it kinda depends on the fandom. For White Collar, I really love the fluffy fics. I also love anything that revolves around the boys saving each other, with lots of angst, minimal hurt and a lot of (gen) comfort.

Have you ever read a fic more than once? What is it about that fic that made you read it again?

*blushes* it’s gonna sound so pretentious which really it isn’t. But sometimes I like to re-read old fics of mine. You know that wonderful feeling you feel, spending so much time with your favorite characters, how you get into their heads as you put words on paper ? Re-reading my old fics, especially if I’ve kinda forgotten about it, brings back all that. Also, re-reading my old fics often gives me the itch to write more !

I Am the Night is a six part miniseries inspired by the autobiography of Fauna Hodel.  It’s about Fauna - a teenage girl who finds out she’s adopted and goes in search of her biological family.  Her journey takes her to Los Angeles where she ends up working with a journalist (played by Chris Pine), and uncovers the truth about her grandfather, George Hodel (a wealthy physician and popular suspect for the Black Dahlia murder).

It has it’s slow moments, but it’s really interesting on the whole.  A lot of it is about race and gender, and takes place during the Watts Riots of 1965 (riots that happened in LA that year in August between a black neighborhood and the police).  There’s also themes of like psychology, ptsd, police corruption.  I’m particularly interested in its take on art and misogyny, which it covers in such effective ways, while also managing to not quite pull through on in others.

3. favourite line/scene you wrote this year

Oh god. There’s a big list. I know that maybe seems egotistical? But I’ve written a lot of stuff that I absolutely love this year. There’s some stuff coming up in the next few chapters of Quiet Life (my MGSV fic) and a future chapter of Until the Light that I’m pretty proud of. There’s some for my original stuff too but I lost a lot of that when my old phone broke ._.’

14. a fic you didn’t expect to write

Uh, Cold Days, my most recent one probably, because an earlier version of that has been sat in the drafts in my old iPod for like... two years? Three years? Maybe longer, and I’ve never like actively tried to get it done till now haha

19. any new fics to start next year

Uh, several: an assortment of oneshots and a couple of ideas for longer fics, but I need to get at least one of my multichapters done before I start a new one. To be fair I have so many fics on one subject alone in my unfinished one shots folder, one is literally called “Another Anthony Lives fic”.

Hello! Just read your re watch post. Could you say more about "the moment when Finch admits defeat and lets Root out, and TM starts ringing the phone immediately as soon as Root is out"? I really want to hear your opinion about Harold, Root, and TM's dynamic and how it changed the other ep. (Also, there's another moment when Harold refused to answer TM's calls right?)(Also, if I remembered it right it's the same episode Root referred John as Finch's the greatest creation right? I was like OmG)

Hiya! *waves confidently like I’m not super late in replying to this amazing ask*

Oh my god I have so many thoughts about Root and Harold’s journey (like in general, but also definitely during s3 of the show when they went from enemies to allies). Their entire arc in s3 was absolute genius because you can see the gradual shift happening over the earlier half of the season even before the big event of Root Path. 

We can already hear a difference in tone when Harold shares with Root his dreams about seeing every line of code he ever wrote for TM as compared to earlier in s2 when they had a pure enemies dynamic. We see a marked difference yet again in his body language when he snaps at Root at the end of Mors (”And how can you be so certain, Miss. Groves, that The Machine does not wish you to be precisely where you are?”) as compared to when he talks to her at the end of TDS (”You came back?”). Compare Harold’s panic when Root escaped the psychiatric facility in Lady Killer (3x03) to his terse “find them, Mr. Reese” when she kidnapped Shaw in Mors (3x06) to his reaction when she called him at the end of Aletheia (3x12). He’s not worried about her being out and free during the last instance. He accepts that she is going to work for TM to solve the problem of the Samaritan drives and doesn’t insist that she be brought back to The Library immediately. 

If Root Path is the major turning point in their relationship, then here’s what I think is the minor one – Root coming back to the Faraday’s Cage of her own volition at the end of TDS when she could’ve just disappeared into thin air. Harold was forced to let her out purely because he needed to find John and clearly wasn’t comfortable with the idea whatsoever (”I know this is our only option Miss. Shaw, I just want to make sure we’re prepared for what may happen”). He never expected to see her in The Library again, and the fact that she chose to come back and outright stated that she did so because she wanted the chance to fight alongside Harold went a long way towards reassuring him. 

I think that while Root Path is when Harold accepted that he himself could work with Root if need be, TDS/Lethe/Aletheia is when he accepted that Root could work with TM. It was when he shifted his focus from worrying about what may happen if Root and TM worked together, to what would happen if they didn’t with the new looming threat of SAM on the horizon. 

(Hmmm I think Harold refused to pick up the payphone in Lethe because he got Arthur’s number via Root (HT @isagrimorie for reminding me which ep). And The Crossing was when Root referred to John as Harold’s creation. I totally went “omg!” at that too!)

7-  have you ever been inspired to start a new show based on gifs or memes it ?

I was gonna say no, but now that I think of it, I think seeing gifs about Eleven and Hopper from season 2 of Stranger Things pushed me to watch it. I would probably have left it to season 1 otherwise. (So, yes @laylainalaska that’s all on you ;-) )

11- which TV show has the best musical soundtrack, in your opinion?

It’s very sujective, but I have to say, every time I hear a song that was used in Person of Interest, it just gives me a big shot of FEELS. Know what I mean? I don’t know what it is about their choice of songs, but hearing just a few notes, and it takes me right back there, hitting at my heart strings.

34- what are your top 5 shows right now?

Only FIVE ?! Ok, gonna try to avoid the obvious and will instead make a little list of recommendation for recent shows. And try to stick to around approximatively five...

1- Counterpart. I know it’s been cancelled but season 2 aired in 2019, so that 1- makes it current enough, and 2- I can’t miss an opportunity to bring up Counterpart. It was brilliant. Gone unfairly too soon.

2- Ku’damm 56. A German show about women’s conditions in the 50′s in Germany. Feminist and modern. Very talented people all around. And while we’re at it, I’d like to also recommend Deutchland 83. Another great german show. This time set in the 80′s. So it’s more cold war, spy stuff. Also really good.

3- Chernobyl. Terrifying but very good.

4- Call My Agent (Dix Pourcent in French). French TV show about actors’ agents. Entertaining and fun. Actors play their own roles.

5- The Good Fight. I hesitated quite a bit for the last spot. I thought about putting Big Little Lies, Better Things or Gentleman Jack, which are all great too. But then I thought of all the posts about how Michael Sheen is such an angel and a cutie. And I can’t help but think you guys mustn’t have seen him in the lastest season of The Good Fight cause I can tell you he is no angel. Honestly I spent 2 months hating the hell out of his character. He is sooo unsufferable and extravagant and a terrible human being. So to me it’s a miracle (and kudos to his acting talent, really) that even though Good Omens came out right after, I didn’t see an ounce of Roland Blum in Aziraphale. Also The Good Fight is a very good catharsis in those years of unfuriating politics...

this is a late response (it’s been a chaotic few days and i haven’t been on tumblr), but thank you so much!  i feel like it went really well and i got lots of questions and people coming up to talk to me about it afterwards.

Crowley sighed and turned around. His eyes were closed and his he was almost asleep, but not quite.

Gentle fingers smoothed the blanket over his shoulders; he was warm, cosy, and he finally understood what Aziraphale meant when he said that he could sense love. Because Crowley felt loved.

He was sure, that Aziraphale loved him. Stealthy kisses and looks over the span of the last weeks, told him as much, even if the angel himself didn’t.

It hurt, still trying to hold back all he was feeling despite himself, but Crowley was willing to wait just a bit longer. Eventually, Aziraphale would open up to him; what were a couple of weeks, months, or even years compared to the millennia he had already endured?

Crowley felt himself drifting off, welcoming the numbing sensation of sleep, the deep peace it brought to him.

Then Aziraphale began to speak.

“Sleep tight.”

Crowley heard the smile in his voice.

“I’ll be here when you wake up.”

It was a comforting thing to hear.

“I’ll always be here. I’ve tried before but it’s hard… trying to keep up with you. We’re too different.”

Crowley’s heart broke a little at hearing those words; the same sentiment in them, as he had heard and seen a thousand times before in Aziraphale’s words and actions.

He turned around, cracking open an eye trying to understand why the angel was saying these things, but Aziraphale was intently staring at his book; he thought Crowley was asleep.

He stayed still and after several minutes of silence, Aziraphale continued.

“I think I’m finally catching up.”

I have developed A LOT since then. Although, I was making up self-insert Pokemon stuff long before then, I just never wrote it down

“Now, I do believe you wished to renegotiate?” Jalin threw them a saccerine smile, the soft scales around his eyes crinkling.

The highest ranking one of his three Paraxalian business associates stared into the muzzle of the 6-N Basavin pulse-pistol clutched in Jalin’s oil-stained claw.

“No.” Xe gulped. “No… sir?”

Jalin kept smiling. The other two shuffled their feet, throwing each other nervous glances, even as the right one’s tertiary pincer reached into xis tunic.3. 2. 1.As expected, sharpened metal glinted in the cold neon light.

He didn’t break eye contact with the boss even as he shifted his arm towards the one on the right, smile still firmly in place. “I do wish you could refrain from doing this, if you’d be so amenable?”

The throwing knife xe had begun pulling from xis tunic clattered to the aluminion plated ground.

“I am most grateful. Let us return to the matter at hand, shall we?”

“No, sir.” The leader of the three repeated. “No matter. The price, as we first agreed, no need for negotiating.”

The elder of his brood had always insisted on relaying the importance of silence to his younger broodlings, but although he had often gotten his silence, the respect of the others had remained out of his reach. Nonetheless, Jalin knew to appreciate an important life lesson no matter who had taught it. Silently, he let his smile widen.

The other two Paraxalians were now shuffling backwards, to the docking port. The leader blinked nervously.

“Not the price we first agreed? A discount! Special discount, just for you! 50%?”

He was about to reach for his credit chip, when xe continued without letting him give his affirmative.

“No? Full discount? Okay, full discount, just for you. Have a good day, sir.”

Before he could quite process what had happened, the three were out of the port, hatch sealing behind them with a mechanical hiss. Jalin raised a feathered eyebrow at the empty cargo bay and sighed disappointedly.

“Paraxalians. No appreciation for the art of civilised business negotiations.”

He sent the pulse-pistol down in favour of picking up the engine part they’d brought him, turning towards the hallway without further ado. He had an engine to repair.
