Sunday Salon / Sunday Post – A Week in the Life of Dollycas – Weekly Rewind – New Arrivals
Tumblr media
The Sunday Salon is a Facebook group that has become an informal week-in-review gathering place for bloggers. It is also a place to share our thoughts about things of a bookish nature. You can also link up weekly on Readerbuzz. The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE! I loved watching the Olympics last week, especially the women's gymnastics. Simone Biles was outstanding. Everyone on the team had interesting stories and things to overcome to compete. In the other sports too. I really enjoyed the in-depth stories of the athletes the network provided and how Snoop Dogg was everywhere cheering. Also, the rapper, Flavor Flav sponsored the men's and women's rugby teams. The women won bronze, their first-ever medal. Friday afternoon we traveled to watch Natalie play in a softball tournament. She pitched 1 inning striking out 2 batters and played first where she did fantastic, and caught a pop-up for the game ending out. They won the game 11-3. That meant they would play yesterday morning. That is when my body let me down. I woke up with a splitting headache, achy joints, and an upset stomach. Mr. Dollycas blames the heat from the day before. All I know is I didn't start to feel better until about two in the afternoon. I get really upset when I miss these special times with my grandchildren. Her team did win the second game 10-7 and went on to win the 3rd game 9-8 and won the tournament. I could not be more proud of this young lady. How was your week? Di tutto è rimasto un poco
Della mia paura. Del tuo ribrezzo.
Dei gridi blesi. Della rosa
è rimasto un poco.
È rimasto un poco di luce
captata nel cappello.
Negli occhi del ruffiano
è restata un po’ di tenerezza
(molto poco).
Poco è rimasto di questa polvere
che ti coprì le scarpe
bianche. Pochi panni sono rimasti,
pochi veli rotti,
poco, poco, molto poco.
Ma d’ogni cosa resta un poco.
Del ponte bombardato,
delle due foglie d’erba,
del pacchetto
— vuoto — di sigarette, è rimasto un poco.
Ché di ogni cosa resta un poco.
È rimasto un po’ del tuo mento
nel mento di tua figlia.
Del tuo ruvido silenzio
un poco è rimasto, un poco
sui muri infastiditi,
nelle foglie, mute, che salgono.
È rimasto un po’ di tutto
nel piattino di porcellana,
drago rotto, fiore bianco,
di rughe sulla tua fronte,
ritratto.
Se di tutto resta un poco,
perché mai non dovrebbe restare
un po’ di me? nel treno
che porta a nord, nella nave,
negli annunci di giornale,
un po’ di me a Londra,
un po’ di me in qualche dove?
nella consonante?
nel pozzo?
Un poco resta oscillando
alla foce dei fiumi
e i pesci non lo evitano,
un poco: non viene nei libri.
Di tutto rimane un poco.
Non molto: da un rubinetto
stilla questa goccia assurda,
metà sale e metà alcool,
salta questa zampa di rana,
questo vetro di orologio
rotto in mille speranze,
questo collo di cigno,
questo segreto infantile…
Di ogni cosa è rimasto un poco:
di me; di te; di Abelardo.
Un capello sulla mia manica,
di tutto è rimasto un poco;
vento nelle mie orecchie,
rutto volgare, gemito
di viscere ribelli,
e minuscoli artefatti:
campanula, alveolo, capsula
di revolver… di aspirina.
Di tutto è rimasto un poco.
E di tutto resta un poco.
Oh, apri i flaconi di profumo
e soffoca
l’insopportabile lezzo della memoria.
Ma di tutto, terribile, resta un poco,
e sotto le onde ritmate,
e sotto le nuvole e i venti
e sotto i ponti e sotto i tunnel
e sotto te stesso e sotto i tuoi piedi già rigidi
e sotto i cardini della famiglia e della classe,
rimane sempre un poco di tutto.
A volte un bottone. A volte un topo.

Megas - Orfeus og Evridís - transcript/translation
Requested by anon, this song by Megas alludes to the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. I feel slightly intimidated about doing his lyrics justice.
Icelandic transcript
Eins og hamar ótt á steðja uppi á þaki regni bylur en í þínu þæga tári þar er gleði, birta, ylur
Á þínum góðu unaðstöfrum önd mín, sál og kraftur nærist Þér ég æ mun fé og föggum fórna meðan að hjartað hrærist
Svefn þinn guð í glasi áskenktu greiðir fró í stríði hörðu Þannig fæ ég þrey af árin þar til loks ég sef í jörðu
La, la la, la, la la La, la la, la la, la La, la la, la, la la La, la la la la
La, la la la, la la La la la la la, la la la, la
Sólin kemur upp í austri en í vestri sest hún niður Í dalnum þar sem ég opnaði augun í árdaga ríkir kyrrð og friður
Hesturinn minn hann heitir Blesi Höfum við sömu lifað árin Ég held áfram en hún styttist nú óðum leiðin fyrir klárinn
Blesi minn, í brekkunni góðu búinn er þér hvílustaður Einhvern tíma ái ég með þér, örþreyttur, gamall, vonsvikinn maður
English translation
Like a hammer upon the anvil, the rain pounds up on the roof But in your gentle tear, there is joy, light, warmth
Your blissful magic nourishes my breath, my soul and my strength For you, I'd give everything I own for as long as my heart still beats
Your sleep, a glass filled by a god, gives relief in times of struggle That's how I endure the years until I finally sleep in the ground
La, la la, la, la la La, la la, la la, la La, la la, la, la la La, la la la la
The mountain range forms a circle around me And outside of it there's nothing because inside it I have you
But we must make do with a small bit of time after what happened You rest on the hillside behind the house Soon we'll find each other there
She was beautiful and she was good, she was better than them And when she sleeps at my side I will sleep content and soundly
La, la la la, la la La la la la la, la la la, la
The sun rises in the east but in the west it settles In the valley where back then I opened my eyes all is still and peaceful
My horse is called Blesi We've lived the same years I keep going but the way ahead ever shortens for the steed
Dear Blesi, on that good hillside is the place where you'll be laid to rest One day I will rest with you, an exhausted, old, disillusioned man
Translation notes
In the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, the two of them are in love when Eurydice dies. Orpheus travels to the underworld to plead for her to return with him; Hades, the god of the underworld, agrees to let her walk behind him back to the surface, but if he turns around to look at her, she will immediately return to Hades forever. They have made it almost all the way out when Orpheus does indeed turn to look, trapping Eurydice in the underworld forever.
The song is mostly pretty subtle about its relation to the myth aside from the title, but it does reference a god who filled her glass and the valley where Orpheus "opened his eyes", which is presumably where he looked back.

I. Formalistic Approach: This approach focuses on form. The analysis stresses items like symbols, images, and structure and how one part of the work relates to other parts and to the whole.
A. How is the work's structure unified?
The work's structure is unified through Alice's journey, which follows a dream-like logic where events are connected more by themes and motifs than by a traditional narrative arc.
(Written by: Dave Abendaño)
B. How do various elements of the work reinforce its meaning?
Various elements such as the use of wordplay, absurd situations, and fantastical characters reinforce the theme of the absurdity and unpredictability of life.
(Written by: Dave Abendaño)
C. What recurring patterns (repeated or related words, images, etc.) can you find? What is the effect of these patterns or motifs?
Some recurring patterns include changes in size, the theme of playing cards, and the idea of madness or irrationality. These motifs create a sense of disorientation and emphasize the dream-like quality of the story.
(Written by: Dave Abendaño)
D. How does repetition reinforce the theme(s)?
Repetition, such as the repeated references to time and the recurring characters, reinforces the theme of the passage of time and the cyclical nature of life.
(Written by: Blesiely Grace Magabilin)
E. How does the writer's diction reveal or reflect the work's meaning?
The writer's diction, characterized by playful language, puns, and nonsensical dialogue, reflects the whimsical and surreal nature of Wonderland.
(Written by: Blesiely Grace Magabilin)
F. What is the effect of the plot, and what parts specifically produce that effect?
The plot, which lacks a conventional story arc, contributes to the overall sense of confusion and absurdity, highlighting the theme of the unpredictable nature of life.
(Written by: Blesiely Grace Magabilin)
G. What figures of speech are used? (metaphors, similes, etc.)
In "Alice in Wonderland", various figures of speech are employed to enhance the narrative. Metaphors play a significant role, such as Alice's journey symbolizing self-discovery and growth, the Red Queen representing tyranny, and the White Rabbit embodying urgency and the passage of time.Similes are also used, such as saying that the Cheshire Cat's smile is "like a Cheshire cat," which gives the persona an air of mystery and playfulness. Personification is also visible in the anthropomorphized traits of different species, which gives Wonderland's fanciful universe more depth.
(Written by: Mary Grace Gabutan)
H. Note the writer's use of paradox, irony, symbol, plot, characterization, and style of narration.
1. Paradox: Throughout the story, paradoxes abound, such as the nonsensical logic of Wonderland itself, where things often appear contradictory or illogical. This adds to the whimsical and surreal atmosphere of the tale, highlighting the theme of questioning reality and embracing the absurd.
2.  Irony : is woven into the fabric of the story, particularly in the contrast between Wonderland's absurdity and Alice's rationality. The Queen of Hearts' obsession with justice despite her unjust actions adds a layer of irony to the narrative.
3. Symbolism: Symbols are woven throughout the story, from the White Rabbit symbolizing the passage of time and the call to adventure, to Alice represents curiosity, innocence, and the journey of self-discovery,The White Rabbit symbolizes time and the passage of time, The Mad Hatter can be seen as a symbol of madness and irrationality. The Queen of Hearts represents tyranny and the abuse of power, The Cheshire Cat embodies ambiguity and the fluid nature of reality, The Caterpillar can be interpreted as a symbol of transformation and metamorphosis and The March Hare symbolizes the passage of time and the changing of the seasons. These symbols deepen the thematic exploration of identity, growth, and the search for meaning.
4. Plot : The plot of "Alice in Wonderland" is intricately woven with twists and turns, reflecting the unpredictable nature of Alice's journey through Wonderland. This unconventional narrative structure reinforces the theme of embracing uncertainty and navigating the unknown.
5. Characterization: Characters in "Alice in Wonderland" are vividly characterized, each embodying distinct traits and quirks. From the eccentric Mad Hatter to the enigmatic Cheshire Cat, these characters contribute to the surreal and fantastical atmosphere of Wonderland, while also serving as mirrors to different aspects of Alice's personality and psyche.
(Written by: Mary Grace Gabutan)
I. Is there a relationship between the beginning and the end of the story?
• The begining part of the story reveals a clue about what will happen in the whole story, the scene where she had a dream about weird and creepy things. At the end of the story, she finally figures out that what is happening to her is all from her imagination and she solved everything on her own by remembering the dream she had at the beginning of the story
(Written by: Erica Concepcion)
J. What tone and mood are created at various parts of the work?
• The tone and mood in the story "Alice in Wonderland" feels enchanted and magical, making a sense of wonder and interest as Alice experiences fantastical characters. Other times, it gets to be overwhelming and confusing, bringing out sensations of confusion as Alice navigates through the world of Wonderland.
(Written by: Erica Concepcion)
K. How does the author create tone and mood? What relationship is there between tone and mood and the effect of the story?
• In "Alice in Wonderland," the author uses words and settings to make the story feel imaginative and playful. This creates a tone that makes the audience feel like they're in a world of wonder and magic. The mood of the movie is like being in a dream; it feels curious and unpredictable. The author achieves this by using surprising twists, strange characters, and magical events. The tone and mood work together to make the audience feel captivated and immersed in a special and enchanting world.
(Written by: Francine Guillermo)
L. How do the various elements interact to create a unified whole?
• In "Alice in Wonderland," all the different parts work together to make a complete and enjoyable story. The story is told well, with all the different parts fitting together nicely. The visuals, like the sets and costumes, look great and make the magical world of Wonderland feel real. The characters are interesting and add to the story, with each one having their own personality and motivations. The dialogue is clever and funny, fitting with the playful and imaginative tone of the movie. The music helps to set the mood and makes the experience even better. All these elements work together to make "Alice in Wonderland" a fun and exciting movie.

the Meithenauts and Meitheheim satyrs of Talonclore have a traditional appearance similar to the Vikings of Norway, Denmark and Sweden in the ancient times. so of course, I decided to draw Blesivaegnr in traditional Viking clothing.

in case yall are wondering if that thing in Blesi's chest is intended or accidental, this is 100% intended. Blesivaegnr has a crater in their chest from a near-death expirience. Nevertheless, they still weild their swords.
